Hey guys
I have bought a Nexus 5x but recently I have noticed it lags like hell and it gets hot around of camera
Is it because of encryption?
Last year I had Nexus 5 and it was very smooth but Nexus 5X is really laggy and it's not like a nexus
How can I solve this issue?
Sorry for my bad English

What are you doing when you notice this?
What rom are you on?
You could try decrypting, you can always reencrypt later.

format the /data partition (note that you should have a kernel with disabled force encryption prior to formatting)
Make sure you have the latest OTA updates. Should be no issues with lag or heat.

Usual Android tips would apply in that case. Most likely related to apps you have running as 24/7 background services, check your Developer Options > Running Services to monitor those.
This device is smooth and snappy. Even when its maximum throttled point (hot) it's faster than a Moto G (cold) which is no slouch itself when it comes to unskinned Android.
LAG
I have an unrooted device and randomly I will get really bad lag. I feel it a lot more when I am using the camera app and trying to switch from one app to another. The solution that works for me is clearing out the cache.
I boot the phone into bootloader, I get a random error (forget what it says), then hold the up volume then and power at the same time for about 3 seconds. Then let go of the volume button. It will take you to a different screen where you can choose clear cache.
Hopefully this helps.
Same problem here. Mine even lags when composing a text as the characters get more and more. Very frustrating.

I have the same lag issue, the overall RAM usage is around 1,6 of the 1,8 GB which last not much space for caching apps or something else.
Clean up the cache is not the solution for that problem.
I'm very frustrated with this issue because I use multitasking and therefore the 2 GB RAM seems to be not enough. Right?
My wife has a oneplus x and it feels snappy, and this is more consistent, the Nexus slows down from time to time.

Just to confirm, this issue only happens with your phone when the up time reaches 3 or 4 days or so, right?

After checking the running services, I noticed 2 apps that were just running all the time and using a lot of memory, once I removed them my phone is working a lot better even with the facebook app installed.

I am on stock 4.2.2 with franco.kernel r366. Most of the time it runs ok but sometimes my gnex is laggy as hell, especially whwn downloading app from the Play Store. Sometimes waking to drvice can take 3-4 seconds and sometimes even more. I am using widgetlocker. Not mentioned Chrome which is laggy too. I really can't understand why my gnex act like that... I used my friend's HTC One X and its smooth all the time.

Well, there are big differences on the Gnex and HTC one X hardware. You cant just think that it will have the same performance.
The question is, do you really need a phone that is 100% smooth?
But android is becoming a heavy OS. Its natural to evolve this way, as well as hardware.

Smoothness is the most important features for me. I need my phone to be responsive all the time, that the reason I went back to stock from custom because custom gave me terrible performance, that making a call was an issue.

"Need". Otherwise you're probably going to have to buy a new device soon.
I can conquer.
When downloading from the Play store, It is extremely slow on various roms.
I believe the problem is the read\write speeds of the storage which is extremely slow.
too bad
yes, i have the same problem whem the app is installing. Its very slow and laggy. Its important to say that there are many apps for android that are poorly optimized, so even in a powerful hardware you may have some issues.
Considering Gnex is a mid end device, i think soon you have to change your phone to a high end if you want more smoothness and if you are willing to pay the price.
+1
This didn't happend on 4.1, so it's not a hardware issue

Most apps are optimized for gingerbread. And of course its going to "lag" while doing intensive operations.

I'm running stock and I haven't experienced any sort of lag or anomalies. Have you tried flashing stock to verify?
i disagree bro...
if you compare GNex with the smartphones with the same h/w config, u wud definatly agree dat its the best in its generation.
writing to disk normally slows the phone. Probably is more related to the OS than hardware.
No, just 4.2* is junk. Go back to 4.1.2 and you'll see the difference.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix
This fixed a lot of lag the op was talking about. It trims the /data and /cache partition, which for some reason doesn't happen on this device but is required just like normal ssd drives.

That app doesn't work on my device. I tried the app from chainfire I believe that checked if the device was bugged by that emmc trimming failure. Mine wasn't.

I found my Nexus 7 switched off after idling for hours today and my battery level dropped from 100% to around 75% after around 7-8 hours with wifi on.
The battery graph was zigzag like with a few sudden increase of battery level within minutes. Sorry that i forgot to capture the image.
Moreover, the device was crazily lag and the screen turns on 10 seconds after I pressed the power button on and every requests took a lot of time.
After reboot, I decided to backup everything and flashed the stock nexus image and see if the problem still exists.
After a few hours of usage, I checked the battery stats in setting and it noticed that Android OS was using more than 75% of battery while screen just used about 5-10%.
I also found the device was hotter even if I am playing less cpu and gpu demanding games, like Coins Dozer.
Web browsing, switching between apps are little bit lag than before.
My device has restriced profile, rooted without installing any custom roms and kernels and is protected by a leather smart cover.
Is there anyone experienced this before? Thanks:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
I have the same issue, it might be caused by smart cover...

My problem does not exist now. I am not sure if it is because I switched off google sync.
I don't think it is related to the smart cover
This problem has happened again:crying:
Anyone can give me some clues to solve it?
I have the battery monitor widget and system tuner widget wakelock for a few hundred times but I have them installed on my Nexus 4 also which does not affect the battery drain by Android OS.
I have really no idea on what happened:crying::crying:

It does help after wiping but this issue comes again after few hours. It makes my devices laggy and the antutu and quadrant benchmark scores are much lower than normal ones.
Is there anyway to resolve it completely?

Guys, i got good news. It is android o.s related. Wasn't the hardware after all.
I'm using aokp builds from Dev forum, with Franco kernel and the issue is suddenly gone.
Looks like the people at aokp reverted some commits which was causing this.

My nexus 7 2013 is having a strange problem since a couple of days. It becomes slow and laggy by itself sometimes. I mean the frame rates while browsing through the home screens drop down to 12 - 13 frames per second. I can't seem to figure out what is triggering this slowness. On restarting the device everything becomes normal though. But after a days usage it again becomes slow..
Any one else facing the same issue? So do I need to keep switching off the device once in a while to get a satisfactory performance out if it?

Hello guys,
I'm going to buy nexus 5X, I like nearby every thing about the device and don't mind if the battery is not great. but the thing which could be deal breaker for me is the performance.
I read that the device is not very good in multitasking and lag in soft usage and my questions here are:
-Are the device still lag now ( 4/5/2016) ?
-Are the updates make a big change ?
-Can you tell be about the nature of lag ?
Thanks in advance
Is this a joke?

I think it's a fantastic phone. I use a lot of them. This is my favorite. We really can't decide for you if you'll like it or not. You should buy, then try, and see if it will work out for you. Return it if it doesn't. Good luck

There is a minor lag problem and most likely it won't bother you. But the phone has heating problem. It only occurs when a resource intensive application is running. Of course if you like rooting and custom roms, ths heating problem goes away.

hope there are no annoying lag.
Have it for 2 weeks now. Don't know about stock, flashed purenexus within 3 hours, never seen lag or heating.
If your not gonna flash, what's the point of buying a Nexus ?

Agreed. I have had it since launch and haven't had any problems at all. I should note I don't game on it, however. But for web browsing, music, calls, texts, e-mail, navigation, etc. it has been flawless for me.

(1) No carrier or manufacturer bloatware. (2) Monthly security updates. (3) Actually getting version updates.
6 months with my 5x and no lag. A smaller portion of users were experiencing slow downs but that was resolved with OTA updates.
Anyone still experiencing slow downs is related to usual Android stuff, ie. bad apps.
Thank you guys, I have ordered one.
I will tell you my experience when I get it.
I'm using this phone without lag issues.
I saw a few people on reddit who said that the latest update (May) has improved the performance of the phone.
I'm coming from a nexus 6p, planning to move to a 5x due to the size of 6p. My main concern is the battery life and Ram. Does the phone run out of ram? My nexus 6p averages at 1.9gb. Please post your experience.
Unfortunately yes. Battery life for me is about 30 min less than 6p. Nexus 6p for my usage seems not to run out of RAM, where on the 5x every 5th or 6th App has to reload.
The good point is, as long as you can life with these tradeofs, you can enjoy the better handling of the 5x

Does it hiccup or stutter due to insufficient ram? I've heard that Snapchat lags on nexus 5x due to low ram. I don't mind if it didn't keep more than 3 or 4 apps in memory. All i am worried about is thw stutter.

You're welcome Bro!
Make sure to get a reatively fresh build Nexus 5x. These seem to have a way better Screen, at least for me.
My first 5X had a lot more stutter and lag than my current replacement. 3-4 apps does sound about right. Maybe 5-6 if they're lighter apps. But after that you will get refreshing, just not stuttering.
