Hello, so I have always had this problem of my phone charging so slow while using the 4 port USB I have installed in my car.
Here is the Hub I have: 4 port usb hub: StarTech.com Mountable 4 Port Rugged Industrial USB Hub (ST4200USBM)
I have used my Nexus 7 (2013) for GPS and if using it for long period of time I have noticed that the battery will actually go low even with it constantly charging while driving.
Here is the Cigarette Lighter car charger that I use: PowerGen® 4.2Amps / 20W Dual USB Car charger Designed for Apple and Android Devices - Black
I have it just plugged straight into the cigarette lighter with the USB cable going into the NA (Not Apple) port.
(A note, I had to use a USB extension cable to get the USB cable to reach the OTG cable.)
AmazonBasics USB 2.0 Extension Cable - A-Male to A-Female - 3.3 Feet (1 Meters)
Now I have the USB Hub wired from the 12V cigarette lighter, and I use 3 USB ports from it to either Charge 1 or 2 phones, and then have a USB Drive in the other so I can play music, watch a movie etc on the Tablet.
I went with the powered 4 port USB HUB so I could charge my phone(s) while driving but it is basically worthless for doing that I don't understand why. On my commute home which is almost an hour drive My phone will barely charge 10-15% no matter what level I started charging it at.
The Nexus 7 tablet will usually stay full charged if just doing normal stuff like playing music, surfing the net. But if I use heavy power program like GPS or Play a movie it will drop and it will say Charging but it will get low until I stop those programs and let charge back up.
I am using the latest version of Timur's kernel.
My concern is, I plan on driving a long distance in a month and would like to not have to worry about my GPS killing my Tablet Battery and getting stuck, and would like to be able to power up the Cell Phones so not having to stop at some store etc to try and find a charging station.
Thanks for your time. I am pretty open as to what I can do, so if you guys have tried and true solutions please let me know.
If you need to know my vehicle it is a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX.
So...why not get a 4 port USB charger that actually delivers 2.4A to each individual port instead of trying to charge 3 devices off of a single 2.4A port?
Well I guess I thought this USB Hub was supposed to supply enough power to all ports.
I need the hub to be able to charge my devices as well as pass data to and from the Nexus 7.
This hub will allow for data exchange like I want, but has issues charging.
Is there a USB HUB that you would recommend?
I was hoping to achieve the same thing as you. I have a 3amp buck converter hooked up to my USB hub that I was hoping to charge my phone with through the hub.
The reason it won't work is because the data pins are not shorted so the phone will only charge at 500ma. Don't try shorting the data pins on the hub either because who knows what effect that could have on the hub.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
Just wanted to check and see if anyone has found a good USB HUB that supports 2.4A to each port.
I'm sure other people have found some sort of solution to be able to charge their devices fast and use it for data to Nexus 7.
What ma are you pulling in pem ?
What otg cable ?
Right now i have a 7 port hub
I can run waze and obd apps with wifi ,gps bluetooth on and i never drop below 100......Ever
How you should more or less have it setup should be like this
Good otg cable
12v - 5v converter powering the nexus throught otg cable
Second converter powering hub .
This otg cable is really good

...
Do you mean your nexus 7? I was having some issues with it staying full powered I recently switched out the Cigarette lighter charger for it and havent had any issues with the Nexus staying charged.
Now I just want to figure out how to charge my devices through the HUB and be able to do data transfer at same time.
My hub is powered from 12v source wired directly to it.
Data transfer from a hard drive ?
Your tablet should charge and use devices at the same time ....
What otg cable do you have ?

Timur's kernel is important (otg+charge)!
I am looking for a hub that provides enough power to the USB ports to be able to charge more than just the tablet.
Example 2 people in car. Both need to charge their phone. Both plug into hub both get 2.1amps, AND 1 wants to play music from phone to car tablet. Should be able to do all from 1 plug, charge at 2.1 and play music from phone.
THis is the hub that I am thinking of but it only supplies 900mA. This is not enough to charge phone.
StarTech.com Mountable 4 Port Rugged Industrial SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Hub (ST4300USBM)
Does anyone have a better hub? Or some other method that I can do to get the 2.1 amps to each port, and be able to still transfer data over that hub?
Shoot worse case I am even willing to have a hub that has the 2.1amp for a couple of ports, and the rest are the 900mA. That way at least people not trying to stream can still get their phone charged quickly.
I don't know the method to go from a regular DC power cord to a car power but I will follow instructions if anyone has some.
Thanks. I am sure I am not the only person that is interested in this.

Has anyone been able to find a USB-OTG adapter for the Galaxy Nexus similar to the USB adapter for the Galaxy Tab (pictured below), i.e. one that's just a compact adapter without a cable between the two sides?

Looks like it has a MicroUSB-A plug, which shouldn't fit into the Galaxy Nexus's MicroUSB-B port.

I bought a 2$ cable from dealextreme for the Galaxy S2. You can find them at the same price on ebay... they work fine, tested with a USB pen and a SIXAXIS.
Now waiting for franco to update his kernel with the NTFS module to try out my external HDD.

What you are looking for is a USB Accessory Charger Adapter, which exists in the USB spec but does not seem to actually exist in physical form.

No, what it is is a special USB OTG adapter that has three connectors, a micro USB plug to plug into the host device, a USB socket to plug in the peripheral device, and a micro USB socket to plug in a charger. It also supplies a special resistance on the ID pin to the host device to let it know that a charger is connected so the host does not supply a voltage on the VBUS. Without this special adapter with the ID pin resistance, the host will supply a voltage to power the peripheral which will not work with the charger on the VBUS. Thus this special adapter is needed. This is defined in the USB OTG and Battery Charging specs, but so far it doesn't seem like anyone is manufacturing such a thing.

Would anybody be able to help make a cable to allow this functionality? I have Muscular Dystrophy and want to use my HTC Evo 3D with the specialized HID USB mouse emulator that's integrated into my wheelchair. This is how I control my desktop PC.
Because I also use the mouse emulator and voice recognition the battery life of the phone isn't that great. I would like to power the phone with a cigarette lighter adapter plugged into my chair.
Thanks!
IT doesnt work on HTC phones. I tried a gew hours ago, since nkbody knew i was forced to buy myself a usb otg cable. Plugged it in the Sensation, and a logitech G35 on the other side. no result, tried with regular usb stick still no result

I'll try to do some research and tests and try to make something to help you and other people with similar needs!
I can mount ntfs with "USB Host Controller v0.44" app and 3.0.8-franco.Kernel R140 kernel.
First of all, I already ordered original Samsung MHL adapter, as it's much cheaper, and I will use it from time to time. I also got the audio dock for charging, and not use the usb. And ordered original Samsung OTG adapter.
Now for my questions, from what I know, the HDMI dock can charge, and use HDMI to connect to TV, but it's limited to videos only? or not?
and second question, what if I connect OTG adapter to the microUSB on the dock? will it work? or it same limited port, like in MHL adapter?
What, no buddy here have the HDMI dock?

I read something somewhere that running pre-4.0.4 stock would actually allow the HDMI dock to function as a mirror. I didn't have this with AOKP 4.0.3 however. My phone is limited to just video (Currently 4.0.4 AOKP). I'd love it if I had the option to use the dock for mirroring.
The OTG adapter shouldn't work with the USB port, as it's limited to charging, no data. Says so in the manual for the dock.
Ohh, I just not sure if to cancel the order of MHL adapter, sure it's more handy, and small, so if I go to a friend, I can get the adapter with me...
The thing is, that here: http://www.droid-life.com/2012/03/23/review-samsung-galaxy-nexus-hdmi-portrait-desktop-dock/
according to manual it say:

So they recommend to update the ROM to thelatest, but they also say it limited to video only. on other hand, pre 4.0.4....yes you guess it, there was no any dock settings in the ROM, but it worked just like the much cheaper MHL adapter, I already spent some cash on the Pogo Dock, so my microUSB stay still ,
I know it more good looking with the dock, but if it really limited, then **** Samsung.
P.S, can anybody here comment on latest stock 4.0.4? is there same limitation to video only? because, you see, I have HTPC in one room, and watch movies and other stuff with it, so spent money on some sheet I may use from time to time, is stupid, as the Pogo Dock at least save my microUSB port, and even have line out with an option to use optical cable, but the HDMI dock, only can show videos, so why the **** I need it then ? I do see it good with emulators if I not at hotel or something, but if MHL adapter can mirror, and it cost much much less, why buy that dock? also some aftermarket HDMI docks can mirror the screen, like that:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...s_Adapters&hash=item2ebd72c665#ht_2529wt_1859
hell, that thing, can charge, sync, and mirror hdmi, and even can work with phone in a case, **** Samsung guys, aftermarket sometimes can be over 9000 times better that original, to bad there no pogo aftermarket one.
Bump
I have both OEM OTG adapter and MHL adapter for my GNex. I am running IMM76K deodexed, zipaligned. I can view files from flash drive, connect external drive, or do almost anything you can do with a computer using OTG adapter. And I can mirror phone on TV w/ MHL adapter w/sound and everything.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
The thing is, that the phone recognize the dock as a different accessory, not like regular MHL adapter, but most people I asked, on 4.0.4 it not mirror .
anyway I ordered the MHL adapter, and OTG, original Samsung BTW, I will need them just in case, but that case both cost less then that crap dock, but I could not resist not to buy the pogo dock , I know it not cheap, but it a cheap price for working micoUSB port
PS, check Kidigi docks, they support MHL, and even can charge second battery, sync, charge, and fit a phone with a case on it.
I bought the official pogo desktop dock from the Play Store for my GSM Nexus with CM9 nightly on it.
The dock's micro USB port ONLY works for charging!
If you plug it into a computer's USB, it will charge but will not connect, manually even says not to plug it into the computer because it may damage the dock, says to use a charger.
So not sure if OTG will work or not.
I just opened the box. Plugged in a USB drive in the back of the dock, no power is being supplied to the drive. I am not using an OEM Samsung otg cable. If undock and plug in the USB drive straight tot the phone it world no problem.
I will try with a powered HD and ill experiment with mirroring and non video outputs
edit: the dock does work with the OEM extended battery (w/ no case), it's a little tight, but actually fits pretty good
I recently picked up an Anker dual car charger (link). It has two ports labeled Apple, the other Android. Both ports can supply 2.4A, for a total of 4.8A.
When I charge my phone from the Android side I get very close to 1A, but when I use the Apple side that goes down to around 500mA. To note, I used the same cable and only one port was used while testing. I used Battery Monitor Widget to track the charge rates.
Either side is strong enough to charge our phones, but it would be great if they both charges at full charge rates. So now I am looking for a wall charger and ideally I would like a dual port charger that can charge two Android devices at over 1.5A. I know we can't use 1.5A but it will future proof the chargers for a while, or will work with tablets.

Maybe look at getting a powered USB hub? I know the 2 I have at home can supply more than the 500mA USB2 spec as they've back powered my raspberry pi with a hdd attached before.
from my limited research, apple and android phones use different methods for signaling AC charging.
Android phones like to have the data pins in the USB cable shorted to each other to signal the phone for AC fast charging.
Not sure what Apple does, but it's not the same. That's why there are two different ports on the charger. Android ports have the data pins shorted together.
On a side note, you can also buy "charging only" cables on amazon that do the data pin shorting inside the cable. this may let you use your android phone with the apple labeled USB ports.

This is correct. Apple devices want to see some combination of 2V and 2.8V on the data +/- lines to signal wall adapter charging. They do it this way because it allows the charger to tell the device what amperage it's capable of delivering (500mA, 1A or 2A) which is pretty cool.
It's been my impression that even using an charging only cable/adapter an Apple charging port will only give you 500 mA.
For what it's worth I recently emailed Anker about this and they said as much. I don't have an appropriate cable or charger to test it on. But Anker also told me they will be releasing new chargers in December that feature their smart charging port which detects what type of device you've attached (Apple, Samsung or generic Android) and then behaves accordingly. I just ordered one of their external battery packs (Astro3) which has one of these ports for 2.1A plus 2 x 1.5A Android ports. A similar AC charger would be nice if you can wait.

Unboxing
It comes with an eco-friendly packaging and basic accessories: 1x Type-C to Type-C Cable, 1x Power Plug (mine is an European Version), 1x User Manual, 1x Warranty Card and the Charger (of course).
As regards the Charging Station, it is made of Plastic, extremely solid and without scratchy parts. Probably the most solid charger I have ever tried.
On the front, there is an useful Power LED (Green) that could be pretty useful if you need to find the charger in a dark room or just to know if it has been plugged properly to the power socket. Its color doesn’t seem to change, so it is just a standard Power LED.
Being a Charging Station, it couldn’t have had few USB Ports. There are 6 USB ports available, 2 of them Type-C with Quick Charge 3.0 support. Unfortunately, there are no full-size USB ports that support QC 3.0 (so, you’ll need an adapter), they support Standard 5V output, just with another technology called “AIO” from AUKEY that works on the voltage depending on the attached device. Follow my next paragraph to know more.
As regards the size, it isn’t bulky neither heavy. Photos tend to make it bigger than how it is for real, so it is better if you follow my measurements.
Efficiency
All tests have been done using AUKEY’s Cables, in order to get maximum efficiency and to avoid any possible issue.
I have tested the “AIO” USB Ports using my USB Capacitor (1A/2A), and the voltage is Stable enough under high-load.
Unfortunately without an adapter I won’t be able to show you any test about Quick Charge 3.0 USB Ports, as soon as I get it i’ll update the review. Anyway, I have tested both USB Type-C ports using my Power Bank, and I haven’t noticed any issue with Standard Type-C USB Output, rated at 5V/3A.
Under high-load (6A more or less), it reached just 41°C.
Conclusions
Being the most particular Charging Station I have ever tried, I can say that it impressed me. Solid Chassis, no Glossy sides, and an huge amount of USB ports makes it almost perfect. As I said for the Type-C Car Charger, it’s a pity that AUKEY doesn’t choose to include a Type-C adapter in order to take advantage of that 2 QC 3.0 USB ports also with other devices that support it but without Type-C support.
So...do I recommend it? Yes, but only if you want to spend some extra money for the Type-C adapter (in case of devices without Type-C), otherwise just go for the standard version without Type-C ports.
Pros:
- Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 Support
- 2 Type-C Quick Charge USB Ports
- Well-Designed Chassis
- Power LED
Cons:
- Quick Charge available only on the Type C ports
- No Type-C adapter included

Sorry to dredge up an old review, but I just got this charger and noticed you're using an amp-meter between the charger and device. As do I (just to keep an eye on things).
I've wondered... Would a cheap meter interfere with the Quick Charge signals being exchanged been the charger and device?

It usually won't (cheap or expansive that is), unless you kill the data lines of the USB connection.
Just be sure that the tester itself supports voltages higher than 5V. (Tronsmart and Drok USB Testers are great if you want to spend some extra bucks)
I managed to fry an ultra-cheap USB tester just because the current was too high, like more than 2A on 5V, so be careful about this too.

In the PA-T11 all USB ports are standard female ports, even the QuickCharge 3.0 ones.
So if you already have USB C to USB C cables, you may go for PA-Y6 and get a USB C to microUSB adapter so you can use with other devices.
In my case, I have QuickCharge 3.0 compliant devices that uses microUSB instead of USB-C, so I've got the PA-T11 and mostly use both QC 3.0 simultaneously with microUSB cables. Eventually I use the QC 3.0 with my Nintendo Switch using USB to USB-C cables.
I guess that internally the PA-T11 and PA-Y6 uses the same or almost same circuits and pieces, changing only the connectors of QC 3.0 ports.
As I've seen in some early reviews, the charger included in the box has a USB-A female while the charger included has a male USB-C output in both sides, so the question is: How the h*** do I charge my device with the included adapter?
The cable that comes with the phone is USB-A (male) to USB-C (male)

This adapter (Micro USB female>USB-C male) comes with the phone. It'll allow you to use your existing micro USB cables. It definitely won't support 25W USB-C fast charging speeds, you'll need a proper and supported USB-C cable for that. I'd guess it'll support standard (last year's) fast charging though.
At some point, the idea of USB -C is to have the "C" connector at both ends, and eliminate the "A" on one end. However, they clearly have not moved in that direction yet.
This would make USB -c omnidirectional in every direction. No wall side/device side and no up and down.

It seems like C on both ends is the proper way to migrate over, on the other hand buying A to C cables lets me re-use my wall plugs. Either way it's going to be a mess while my tablet and external battery pack are micro USB and my phone is USB C. What's everyone else planning on doing?

Qi Wireless fast charging is the way to go. Overnight I'll use the Wireless Charging Cradle and in the car I'll use the usb C cable to QC 2.0 Car charger. On the go I'll bring the OEM wall charger and cable. If need be maybe invest in a USB C External Battery Quick Charger.

For wireless charging which I use heavily, nothing. The Note7 will fast charge wirelessly at the same rate as the Note5. I ordered a 1' A>C Orange-E (they're 100% spec compliant) cable to use in my car for Android Auto. When the price drops I'll order a second Samsung OEM adaptive charger and Type C cable which I'll use in the office when I need faster charging than I can get through wireless. I'll use what comes in the box at home and when I travel. The latter is most important to me because that's where 25W charging matters most. A4C.com has the OEM Samsung 10,500 mAh fast charging brick on sale for $29.95 so I ordered one and that'll charge at 2A, last year's fast charging standard. I connect wirelessly 90% of the time for data transfer so Type C doesn't offer a lot of benefit on the data side for me so no need to "cable up." With the adapter that comes with the phone all existing micro USB cables will work fine. The only thing the adapter inhibits is 25W charging speeds. YMMV.
Is the Charge in Box QC Usb 3.0 or 2.0 ?

It will most probably be the same Adaptive Fast Charger we've seen before.
