I'd bet the Captivate will only see it as USB port and never draw more than 500mA from it. You can check which mode your phone is charging in the settings.

Settings->About Phone->Battery status (first one on the list... when plugged in to the AC adapter that came with the phone it will say Charing (AC) under it)

I got a $3 AC car charger ("For blackberry" but thy're both just microusb) off dealextreme. The connector is a little tight but it works great and charges fast

I've found that my Zune HD FM Transmitter charges well too. Has a USB port on it. Not a cheap alternative, but it's multi-functional and it works. Think the Captivate recognizes anything to charge as long as it gives power...

I'm sure it will charge, but at only 500mA, will be pretty slow (especially if you're using while charging).

I use an old crackberry charger (has usb port on it). 500mA output. Charges phone fine. Just not as fast as the samsung 700ma charger.

I haven't tried the car charger, but the AC outlet->USB works great

I purchased the $1.16 car charger from Monoprice.com, and it works great. Unfortunately, board rules don't allow me to post a link. Just search for "car charger" on Monoprice, and it's the first one that comes up. Or, search for the product ID: 3523.
The only problem is that, while the label lists a maximum output of 1A, the Captivate only draws 500 mA from it (USB mode), as is the case with the other chargers listed in this thread. I have not found the lower charging current to be a problem.
For $1.16... It's a steal.
I also purchased two micro USB cables from the same site, the ones with ferrites, but I had to mod the plastic heads with a Dremel to get them to fit the angled port opening. They fit and work perfectly now, though.

Even with the stock 700ma wall charger, it takes almost 4 hours to completely charge the battery. A 500ma charger (most iPhone ones and generic USB ones) will take even longer. This of course assumes you're not using the phone for anything. If you're using the phone for navigation, for example, your 500ma charger will not have enough juice for the phone and the battery level will continue to drop. So, it is important to have the car charger that can supply more than 500ma to the phone.
Currently, I know the Zune HD premium car charger can be recognizd as AC charger and seems supply more than 700ma of juice. And I read some Moto mini-USB car charger (no USB port on the charger) can be used as rapid charger as well.
I've tried two different cheap USB port car charger, one labeled 2.1a and the other is 700ma. Both are designed for iPhone/iPod and hence can only be recognized as USB charger.
If anyone found any small USB port car charger that can be recognized by the phone as AC charger, please post here.

I've heard good things about the Scosche Revive charger. I saw it in a car charger thread on the Android Forums. A guy bought it for his Evo and said it charged nicely with everything running (GPS, 4G, Navigation, et cetera). Here's a link to his post reviewing it. There's also the Revive II which has a 2.1A port and a 1A port.

Thanks for the link. The big question is: Can Captivate regconize it as rapid charger instead of USB? Just because it works with Evo (HTC phone) doesn't mean it will work the same for Captivate. And I suspect the Revive II won't work well for Captivate at all because it is designed for iPhone/iPad.

I can't say how it'll work with the Captivate, but they were having the same problem with their phones (700mA chargers only outputting 500mA). So, I'd have to say there is a good chance it would work. I'd test it out myself, but I really don't need a car charger. My work commute is 10 minutes round trip, school is 20 minutes.

Anyone come across a good combination charger/mp3 adapter?

Genuine Galaxy note charger

I need a charger for the galaxy note; I dont want a cheapo charger. I want teh genuine thing!
I like the one which comes with the galaxy note, wher ethe charge and teh cable are seperated. Where can I buy a similar or same charger? No fake rubbish? I am in the uk.

I don't see why you would want an original. 5V 1 amp USB plug type adapters are more common than water on this planet. They are not a coveted item.
I must have four of them.
BTW, I have the 100% original Euro one that is 100% original garbage. They cleverly put the USB slot on the side?

I have many chargers but they are cheap ones, I dont believe they work properly. I shall just buy the one drgopoos showed. I have like 3 USB cables. I ill have to carry both when im out and about!

If i were you , I would get this.
This is hp touchpad 2amp charger. Many people have reported that 2amp charger charges faster.
2amp chargers wont hurt ur phone because the phone only takes the amp it wants.
May be our Gnote has kernel that enables charging with higher current.

i have already ordered one.

Is there a place for an original Samsung 1A charger (not one where you have to attach a USB cable). I have the original one from Germany that has a US adapter, but would prefer getting two original Samsung ones (not Palm, etc) to put around the house.

I have a Samsung TAB and a galaxy s2. the problem with these is that the connectors are not compatible and I could not charge the TAB from a PC. I found something on Amazon called the CSQUID (damn I just checked and the price is flipping $15!! I paid $25 for this!!!!). With it I got a single cable to charge the TAB and the S2 from a PC - even when the PC was asleep. A bonus was that the devices charged from the PC as fast as they did from the wall cube. So with the PC and this cable I was SET...
I dont know details like whether they ship to the UK etc but worth you guys cheching it out...Also dont know what port the Samsung note uses so please check before buying...

Sorry - one other thing I forgot to mention is that in one of the modes (with the lightning symbol), it does not care what you have as the power source. So you can charge the samsung devices from ANY wall, car or PC USB port. My tab for e.g. cannot use the standard Samsung cable to charge from my wifes iPhone wall cube. With this CSQUID cable in the "lightning mode" I can charge from it.
But the point of this whole thing in my mind is that I dont need to carry ANY dang wall adapter around....I have my PC with me at all times and since I can charge even when the PC is asleep, I can charge anywhere...

Not sure why but if you use a generic 5V 1amp charger, it takes a longer time compared to the original one that came with the Note.

just picked up one from ebay genuine mains charger for £3.25 free del cant go wrong

It is almost 35% faster

I guess there's a specific reason why you want a genuine chager with detachable leads. Why not buy a seperate cable to use with your laptop?

Just like cases, wall chargers market starting to get saturated with too many choices any time you search for one. But to find a good quality one that will live up to its current rating, have a reliable design that will not burn out, and with a relatively small footprint and dual output - that's not easy to find. I looked into testing of new Anker 3.6A wall charger to see how it will meet all these requirements.
First of all, the charger itself is very compact and lightweight. Under 80g with a dimensions of approximately 70mm x 55mm x 25mm it will be very comfortable to take with you while traveling. It's slim design is not obstructive if you either plug it into wall outlet (leaving enough room for another plug if its a dual outlet) or power strip where it could be used along side with other cables. For such a slim design it has a very impressive spec of 3.6A of shared output current between two ports. Obviously having a dual usb port is a huge bonus, but being able to supply 3.6A into both of them (combined and shared between two ports) or into each (if only one port used at a time) - this is very impressive! Yes, they have it labeled as one port being Android and the other one Apple, but while testing it with Galaxy Note 2 and Nexus 7 I found both ports work reliably to charge android devices. I guess this just means that you can also use it to charge Apple device with their proprietary charging circuit. I have another dual wall charger from about a year ago where I can't charger Android devices from "apple" port. This Anker charger, which I verified with their car charger as well, has no issues powering up Android devices I tested from their "apple" port. I also verified with my Note 2 that charging current was at max 2A, so the phone will be charged up at maximum speed. Furthermore, I had both Note 2 and Nexus 7 plugged in together, both charging as AC in battery setting, and I have verified Note 2 sinking 2A. Also while charging, I didn't feel any overheating, it stayed cool.
Definitely a highly recommended wall charger and a great value for under $12 for 3.6A dual port slim design which is covered by Anker's 18-month warranty.

I got this little guy ahead of your review, and can't agree more. Charger does the job very well on either port.

Thanks just ordered one. Been needing one for some time now what with three tablets and four phones. This will come in handy and with Amazon Prime's free shipping is a nice little deal.

One thing I have to mention is that when charging Note 2 and another Android non-Samsung device, I would recommend to keep Note 2 on "apple" port while other device on "android" port. I had two Nexus 7 tablets charging on both ports, starting at the same low battery level, and found the one connected to "android" port was charging at a faster rate. Bottom line, Samsung phones charge at fast rate from both ports, while other Android devices like Nexus 7 charge faster from android port versus apple one.

That explains some of the debate going on in the 2 amp car charger thread.
Some people were saying that "apple" 2.1a ports won't charge the note 2 quickly when others were saying it charged their note 2s fine. Maybe you should go report your findings in that thread too?

Just a few months ago I reviewed Anker's dual usb car charger with 3.6A combined output. One of the comments I heard back was about charging Note 2 and iPad 4th gen. As you know, Note 2 needs 2A for a full charge while 4th Gen iPad needs 2.4A. Or perhaps you got Note 3 in addition to Note 2 and need to charge up both of these 2A phablets in your car. In that case 3.6A doesn't cut it. The solution: 4.8A charger with dual usb port output each being able to deliver 2.4A.
Continuing with their new environmentally safe cartoon package, this one arrived in a neat little box. In addition to car charger, it came with Instruction manual which I want to mention specifically since Anker has been updating these with more and more useful details. They might as well call it a car charging Guide. But one thing I do have to mention, even so this charger has 2 ports labeled Android and Apple - in case of Note 2 or any other newer Galaxy phones, both ports can be used to charge your phone at full speed as I captured in the pictures below using Galaxy Charging current app.
This new 4.8A charger is the same size as their previous 3.6A model. Its very compact at 31g with 2.9" in length and 1" x 0.9" at the dual usb port opening which is smaller than some of the other single output car charger. thank you for the review! What micro-usb cable are you using to charge the device? I'm noticing that the cable has much to do with the amperage being drawn from testing I've done with all the cables and chargers I have.

I bought the USB power monitor that you reviewed. I d/l the app Galaxy current (the same one you
are using) and they never matched each other. The app always show 1800 like yours when the USB
gadget wasn't installed (on a 2A charger). It showed very differently with it inline, like 1100 mA.
I wonder if you saw the same thing?

To be honest, the app and usb dongle are great for relative measurements, not the actual accurate measurement. That is a truth. When you have a dozen of different cables and chargers and trying to make sense out of it, these tools come very handy to determine which combination will give you the highest charging current. Is it accurate? The only way to check it by dealing with a known mAh capacity target and timing how long it will take to charge it from zero to full (or some starting percentage which you will have to factor into your final calculation). Once you know total charged "mAh" capacity and "h" it took to charge, you calculate by dividing mAh/h to get your mA charging current speed. On a few occasions I came very close with what I have been reading with Charging Current app. But in general, just use all this as a tool to determine best combo of your external charger/cable.

S8/S8+ Power Delivery compatible chargers

When I plugged the S8+ into the MacBook 12's PD brick, it shows "cable charging". I thought the S8+ doesn't support PD. Today when I tried to use it with the rMBP USB-C PD brick, it activated Fast Charge. So the S8+ supports PD after all.
My USB-C 5V/3A portable battery and the Pixel XL / 6P bricks can't activate fast charge either.
If you know any other PD chargers that works with the S8/S8+, please share.

I can confirm that this Aukey USB C Car Charger with Power Delivery works. I got this for the wife's car for her Pixel, but my S8+ also comes up as fast charging when I connect it.
This reddit post implies that in addition to the QC 2.0 fast charging (and since QC3 and 4 are backwards compatible any QC charger will work) it can also negotiate 5V at 3A over USB-PD, however (non-PD) Type-C USB charging can provide 5V @ 3A so it's more likely it's using that rather than USB-PD per se (though for all intents and purposes the end result is the same with regards S8+ fast charging) as long as the charger provides it.

Ive read that qualcomm 2.0 os basically 3 amps. So in theory any charger that provides 3amp output should work as fast charge

Do bear in mind the phone will draw a maximum 15W (either 9V @ 1.67A over QC2 or 5V @ 3A over USB Type C) even if the charger can provide more.

I assure you that the Flux Charger would be the best portable charger for your S8/S8+. One of my friends uses it for charging on the go. Also it provides fast charging.

So it would seem with my S8+ and the Anker charger I gave the link to, there would be no real advantage switching to this one.........Anker chargers have been my go-to chargers for years, but I always keep an open eye to others

The phone doesn't actually use USB-PD either, but can fast charge using USB Type C, but it's often USB-PD chargers that gives that. USB-PD is more future proof for other devices, but right now there's no need to change your existing QuickCharge chargers or powerbricks.

Not exactly. With QC 2.0 the power supply can output 5, 9 or 12 volts, the phone will tell it what to output based on the battery level.. so if it's about completely dead it'll ask for 12 volts and as it gets closer to full back off to 5 volts. You need a power adapter that's compliant for that to work.

I received the Trianium charger over the weekend, it does fast charge off the USB-C port. One odd thing I've notice though is if I put my phone in my car mount while the charger has power, it goes into cable charge mode. Unplug and plug the other end back into the charger and it's in quick charge mode. Now if I put the phone in the mount before the charger gets power it works fine.

I recently got myself the AUKEY 27W Dual USB-C Port Car Charger. This is a USB Type C charger (and does not support USB Power Delivery) and with the built-in/attached USB-C cable it fast-charges my S8+ with the 5V at 3A that USB Type C allows for. The other port is a (non-USB-C and non-QuickCharge) USB charging port that can provide up to 2.4A.
