I have an old LG G4. I have no need for the phone in regards to calls/texts. At this point, it's simply a super mini computer.
What are my options in regards to changing the OS to something that no longer provides phone features, but more of a tablet type enviornment?
I have rooted my phone and am ready to go!
Let me know what you guys think.

My LG G3's battery port has decided to just take a **** on me. It won't charge using ANY micro USB charger that I have. Nothing. The phone is completely dead.
I can get power back to it as my brother-in-law also has a G3 and will let me use his battery while I try to sort everything out.
My question is this. If I have no access to the usb port, is there anyway to return the device to stock? That's my biggest fear right now. If worse comes to worse, will Verizon go back onto the phone find out it's rooted and deny me any additional warranty?
I'd rather be safe than sorry so any help would be appreciated!
I'm running the VS985.
Unroot through SuperSU and reset to factory from the phone itself.
hey guys,
Im expecting my LG G3 to arrive in a few days. This may sound a bit silly, but as i bought the phone used, can you tell me what things to check in order to make sure that it is working properly?
Do LG G3 phones have particular issues?
Thank you in advance!

So far....
Camera Lense can aparently "Crack/shatter" on its own.
Cracks can appear around, charging port/head phones port (maybe just a bad first batch of G3's)
Some people have been reporting the G3 rebooting at random - not a huge group though
Some users reporting "lag" using the stock launcher (mine seemed ok but NOVA is a tonne faster)
Some users reporting the G3 getting very very hot on use, to the point where it nearly burns your fingers
Some users reporting crackling through headphones while listening to music while phone is charging or engaging in heavy use
If you phone doesnt have any of these, you onto a winner
Hope this helped
Go to about this phone in setting.
Make sure it doesnt have a weird rom or kernel associated with it(if you want a stock g3)
Thank you very much for your responses. Got my phone today. Can someone gimme a print screen of the settings - about - aoftware information?
Thank you
today had a issue phone started boot looping done all i can i do think its a hardware issue, only thing that annoys me so much is that i lost my data. luckily i have had a sd card in and some has saved but i use my phone for work and its screwed me over and all LG can do is loose my data and replace the motherboard.
Im on the look out for another phone can anyone help me find one, i did look at buying a low high end phone as there has been many out now, I'm not a game player but take photos for work and use it for browsing.
can anyone advise me on the best low end phones or an good alternative and my trust in this phone has gone, i had a G2 and that phone is and was the nuts and is still being used by my mrs but I'm not going back...
read the zenfone is good but what version is the best?? any others
thANKS J
How low-end you need to go, price-wise? If taking photos is important for you, I think you should consider:
Motorola Moto X Pure Edition / Moto X Style (same phone)
Google Nexus 5X
Google Nexus 6P
Hi i have a problem with my screen. My phone have 2 yo. I had a problem with motherboard and screen (services give me new motherboard and screen)
Problem is random click on screen while msg or scroll page/forum.. I do test through hidden menu, format phone and still nothing.. The guarantee is gone.. the phone can open apps lying on the table without moving.
Someone can help me? Btw i had a problem erlier with google nexus 5 (lg) and now with lg g4..
Lg g6 is so beautyful but im afraid..
You have to change the touch digitizer.
LG is known to do something notorious in their Hardware for every phone.
The Vice president of LG is trying to fix things by delaying the release of the phone, and thinking about changing their strategy and not copying Samsung smart phones.
4month ago i get new digitizer...
Its worth to repair screen? Or maybe buy lg g6
I know its my decision but maybe u can help a little?
Buy G6 or I would recommend skipping LG phones.
So, samsung s8+, oneplus 5t or what is good now?
Thanks a lot!
OP5t is a good phone, go for Samsung if you want abest in class camera , waterproof.
Or if you want the performance wise phone, then OP5t will offer the same performance for lower price.
I need to buy a used LG G3 D851 off eBay. I'm trying to determine if there is a way to find out the wear & usage on the G3. Looking at the physical condition of the phone isn't useful (cases & screen protectors protect against wear & tear). After buying (and returning) two broken G3s I've learned that "refurbished" means "we cleaned it with a towel", and that "new" means "a used phone in the original box".
As I understand it the only thing on any mobile phone that really wears is the camera which degrades over time. I thought that there was a hidden menu option that had an entry on how many photos were taken, which would help, but I can't find it.
I was hoping there would be a hidden menu timer or counter somewhere that can tell me how often the phone has been used?
Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :good:
I have had close to a dozen LG G3s over the last 4 years. I have been trying to find a decent D855, but run into D850s , 851s, LS990s and VS985 for parts.
The biggest problem with these is the poor manufacturing of the components on the motherboard. The phones are dirt simple to take apart and swap parts on, and, by now, you should assume that the phone you are about to buy is not what you think it is.
Like George Washington's axe. Someone swapped the handle, then someone swapped the blade...
If you trust the seller to be honest, get a used one that has had little use and ask the seller if it bootloops, has wifi issues, bluescreen, fadeout...these are all motherboard problems.
Thanks @rs899 that's the problem I've had. In one case I bought what was supposed to be a D851 but it was a screen-locked LS999. Another one had WiFi that didn't work. In every case the phones were advertised as refurbished and "passed our extensive in-house diagnostics".
In every situation I had to file a complaint with eBay to get a refund as the seller was not cooperative.
At this point in the phone's life, it is unreasonable to spend much on these. I myself put a couple of phones together out of parts , used them a few days, and sold them as "used" on ebay fairly cheaply. If anyone complains in 30 days I will have them ship it back and refund them (or just simply refund them). The motherboards are a time bomb. The MBs in the ones I sold may not have been used much and may last for some period of time...or not.
I have a D-851 that I thought was pretty reliable. It has started to forget my wifi. The end may be near for that one.
@rs899 thanks for the info. BTW I have long fingers, and the back buttons on the LG G3 are perfect for me (I looked at the G4 but it is famously unreliable even when new & too big for my needs).
My daily driver is a rooted LG G3 running stock KitKat. I'd like to upgrade to a Marshmallow ROM but I'm nervous about losing functionality on the phone if the upgrade goes bad. So my plan is buy another LG G3 D851 and do the upgrade on that, then transfer my nandroid backup & microSD card to the new one. Maybe I'll give it one more shot on eBay & see if it works out. If you have a d851 for sale DM me your eBay ID & I'll check it out!
I don't have anything for sale right now. I have a D-850 I am playing with and figured out how to put Lineage 17.1 on, but now it drops wifi. I have that D851, but I don't trust it either. A very bad D855. Nothing I would either use or sell to my worst enemy...

You wrote that you replace parts on these G3 phones. Do you know if the ear speaker on the front of the phone loses clarity over time? I'm wondering if I should go through the trouble to replace mine. Thanks
