Hi,
a while ago, I cracked my Uni's LCD. So I ordered a new one including the digitizer, opened my Uni and swithched the displays. Now at times, the touch screen wouldn't work at all - unless I tap the upper left corner (the start button; in portrait mode) or the lower left corner (the left button or slightly above it; in landscape). After that, tapping everywhere works normally. Does anyone have an idea what this could be caused by or how to solve it?
Thanks in advance!
I'd make sure your contacts are very clean. If you think maybe they're not, then take out and clean contacts with dry cloth or contact cleaner and re-insert.
Also, make sure there's no debris around screen. That nothing is pressing on digitiser anywhere else that gives false postive for it.
enigma may be able to help you better, I think she's more accustomed to the HW
Generally, all touch problems are associated with a digitizer. Without actually seeing your device I assume your digitizer is faulty and the problem may be either improper adhesion or the soldering joint improperly formed. Adhesion problem may be resolved by warming the screen with a blowdryer, no need to get it hot, just slightly warm all over and smooth with a soft cloth as if you are applying a screen protector, it loosens the special sticky gel that attaches the digitizer to the LCD and usually helps in cases where sensitivity is sporadic or screen calibration returns wrong response. Check for any bubbling, although not seen when the screen is viewed directly, some may be noted at the angle.
However, in your case there are certain points that need to be pressed in order for it to work, so I take it, the screen works most of the time and the problem is intermittent, the corners that need to be pressed might be the ones where adhesion is not up to scratch.
Try re-assembly, if all fails - contact the screen supplier, faults can happen, especially in non-OEM parts.
Do keep us updated if you find the solution, I am sure all members can benefit.
Problem solved
Well over time, the situation changed so that the touch screen didn't work at all, unless I was pressing one spot above the LCD fairly hardly, at which time it worked without problems. Once I stopped presing the spot, it stopped working again.
So I tried opening the Uni and disconnecting and reconnecting the LCD FPC (which was located just under the spot that needed to be pressed), which seems to have solved the problem
OK, so I dropped my phone and the LCD went out, I hooked the phone up to the laptop and the phone still works fine, even the touch screen works. ( I used My MObiler to see phone screen on the pc).
I bought a new LCD screen off of Ebay and replace it, now, the LCD screen works, but for some reason, the touch screen stopped working.
When I took the LCD apart from the touch screen, there seem to be a layer of grease of some sort between the touch screen and the LCD. I wiped it off with a lens cloth, don't know if that caused any problem.
Also there is a dark film (tinted) glued to the touch screen when looking from the back, what is that for? I looked at replacement touch screen on Ebay but none of them have the tinted film layer. I've search all over the internet for instructions but can't find any.
So my question is, what are the correct procedures for replacing the LCD screen and the touch screen (digitizer) ? Also after I installed the new LCD screen, the screen is very reflective and the glare is really bad, how do I fix that problem?
Thank you experts!!
You should have replaced both the LCD screen and the Digitizer. There are complete kits on ebay as well as instructions/tools to complete the replacement. Did you purchase the digitizer also?

I went ahead and purchased the digitizer by itself after the original stopped working. Hopefully, it will get my phone back to normal. Thanks for your reply!
in the wiki theres disassebly instructions of the device that should help you (but you probably already know that since you've already switched out the LCD)
In my experience, i have never replaced either the digitizer, or the LCD by themselves, i've always bought LCD+Digitizer and replaced them as one. Seems like the Digitizer is usually glued onto the LCD and i never wanted to mess with that.

I should have ordered the kit instead of just the LCD. What lead me to order just the LCD is when I hooked the phone to my pc and confirmedthe digitizer still worked. And since this is the first time ever I disassemble a phone, I assumed the two things were separated.
But my digitizer should come in tomorrow so I'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for the info.
where did you find a guide to take apart the TP2? I just had the unfortuante luck of smashing mine in the car door as I got in....it fell out of my pocket the exact moment i was closing the door....
My screen is shot, but other than that the device appears to work. I can power on, and try to dial after I press the hard key for the phone pad. The touch portion seems to work, but from your luck, I guess I am looking at having to replace both...
anyhow...any advice on guides and how to find the stuff on the ebay would be apperciated.
I still have 18 months of a 2 yr contract....sucks....and it sucks doubly becuase i just took the insurance off last month....grr..

Here's a photo guide of the disassembly of a Rhodium (TP2), it might give you some insight. There's also been a number of threads in this section about hardware parts and the screen/digitizer in particular, listing places where people found/ordered replacement parts.

The disassembly instructions are here: http://translate.google.co.uk/trans...ka/htc_touch_pro2/&sl=ru&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
I did not follow those instructions since I did not want to open the back of the phone.
What i did was I tilted up the phone and used a very small screwdriver and unscrewed the two screws from an angle (it worked).
Then I pried the back of the tilting part of the phone all around to reveal the inside. Be careful not to pull too hard on the flat cable since it's still attached to the back (body) of the phone.
The LCD and touch screen are glued together (I didn't know that before). At this point I would remove the tape that is attaching the flat cable to the back of the LCD, and also lift up the clear yellow tape and detach the three connections.
The widest ribbon is from the LCD, the medium one is for the 4 hard buttons in the front, and the little one is for the touch screen.
I would suggest wearing some sort of anti-static wrist strap (I think I fried my touch screen along with the flat ribbon that is attached to the phone while trying to replace the LCD without anti-static wrist strap).
Once the whole tilting part is freed from the phone, I would carefully push the whole screen (digitizer + lcd) out from the frame, again, they are glued to the frame but can be removed fairly easy.
That's it, the install is reversed of removal and hopefully yours will work again.
Like I said, I think I fried my flat ribbon so after replacing the Digitizer (it came in today), the touch screen still doesn't work, so now I'm looking for that part, I'd appreciate a link to it if anybody knows where to get one.
Oh, and for the parts, just do a search on ebay for "touch pro 2 lcd" or touch pro 2 lcd + digitizer"
Gook luck with your phone!
What tape to use to stick digitizer back to inner bezel/chassis?
Hi - i got as far as trying to replace my Digitizer only to find that the LCD was stuck to it too. So as clever as i am (not) - i tried to remove the LCD off the digitizer - but that just ended up cracking it.
So i'm in the process of ordering a LCD with the digitizer - pre-stuck together (i hope!) - but my question is:
When i removed the digitizer off the front bezel, there was this spongy sort of double sided tape... i assume it was used for a reason and not just any ordinary double sided tape (presumably to allow a bit of leway between the digitizer and the bezel when pressure is applied to the touch screen)...
Any thoughts on what sort of tape this is? - here's some photos of my digitizer and the bezel:
zedii.co.uk/DSC_0002.JPG
^some of that tape is left on the digitizer... it's the black spongy stuff...
zedii.co.uk/DSC_0003.JPG
^i cleaned (removed residue of sticky tape) in the inner part of the bezel where the digitizer would stick...
Any specific tape to use that anyone knows of?

I wish you had asked before you ordered the digitizer + LCD, since I ordered mine separately, and they seem to both working ok. The digitizer does not have to be glued to the LCD. But anyway, I just used plain old Gel superglue to glue the digitizer to the bezel. I used Gel superglue so it won't run into the electronics beneath. Things seems to work just fine now.
One thing to consider when you crack open the whole phone though. Be careful not to loose any part from within the phone, because apparently, I lost something, now my accelerometer doesn't work, and my screen doesn't rotate when you slide out the keyboard. Hope it works out for you!

Thanks for the advice adp9626! Well in summary I think I've just been messing about too much and being stupid really.
In the end, I managed to just remove the top part of the screen without actually having to break into the bottom section of the phone.
I was a bit concerned about the whole sticking of the LCD to the Digitizer part. I actually did purchase them separately, however I was not sure what kind of glue was used to stick them both together - as I recall it was a nightmare to try and remove the LCD off the old Digitizer.
So I returned both separate parts (got a full refund as I didn't use them) - and now I am looking to purchase both parts stuck together.
I'm waiting on the guy on eBay to confirm that they are both stuck together. I'm also thinking of using double sided sticky tape to stick the Digitizer back to the inner bezel...
So that's the final plan! I've been a bit silly in rushing with ordering parts etc. but I just want to be on the safe side now - well - at least with the LCD stuck to the Digitizer part.
I will take your advice on the gel superglue if the double sided sticky tape doesn't prove it's stickyness!
Thanks
Zayd.
Can anyone help me find the lcd screen and digitizer as a single unit for Sprint? Everyone I find states not for CDMA.
Thanks

I ordered one from this guy and it works great. it comes with the entire top half of the phone and the keyboard. There is only one left so you may want to hurry. Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=270583335455&Category=20336&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2
Edit: I wanted to add that they're are slightly used so there will be scratches. The one i received is a little more scratched than my original then again the scratches aren't noticeable when the back light is on and you're getting a working screen.
Just my experience, I had a faulty LCD, digitizer was OK. Bought a replacement LCD off ebay, delivered from China but only cost me £20 inc delivery. Arrived with tools as well (T5, T6, philiips, and pry tool). Followed a couple of disassembly instructions online, took me a while to get all apart but managed it. None of the instructions online go through actually taking the screen out, I thought I'd messed it up as I took the back half of the LCD off and left the front bit on, and I couldnt get it off at first. I ended up using a very sharp scalpel to slide between the LCD and digitizer and got them apart eventually, as I didnt realise that they were glued.
Anyway, I just placed the screen on, no glue as there is a ring of sticky tape around the back of the digitizer which holds the screen in. Connected everything back in the end and its working fine. Only prob is I think I damaged the power/standby button, so be careful when around this area.
Touch Screen not responding after replacement
Recently, I replaced a glass screen on a SGH-M919 Galaxy S4. Previously, during the process of cleaning the glue residues off the LCD screen; I rubbed it with rubbing alcohol and it removed a small streak of the adhesive glue off left side of LCD screen and bottom right corner. After installed the new glass screen, I noticed a few spots of the glass screen wasn't sticking onto the sticky layer. So it looked like it has big air bubble between the glass screen and LCD. And I could see the rubbed off streak on the LCD screen. Everything worked fine with the new glass screen, with the exception of seeing the streak and bottom right corner rubbed off.
A few days ago, I had a table clock fell on top of the phone and broke a piece of glass. Nothing happened to the LCD screen and still functional 100%. So I got a replacement glass screen - the same as the first time replacement. With noticing of the rubbed off streak and corner of the adhesive layer on the LCD screen - I decided to rub off all of the adhesive layer from the LCD. I sprayed some Goof Off liquid on the adhesive layer and left it over night. Next morning I continued scraping off the glue with a small plastic card. Cleaned off all glue residues and examined the LCD screen for any scratches or damage. There was none. Re-installed new glass screen - but now the touch screen does not respond to the touching on the icons. Only the Home, Menu & Back touch button work. I was baffled after this.
Could it be that because I left some the Goof Off liquid on top of the LCD screen over night and it might have leaked to the other side and shorted out something? I saw a few forums that suggested a Factory Reset. I did that - but still didn't work. Please advise on what I need to do to fix this problem.
Thank you in advance for the advise or suggestion.
So you know that these are the TP2 forums, and no one has used this thread in the last 3 years....right?
LCD digitizer replacement.. now black screen
I saw the for replacing the LCD-digitizer of my nexus 4 phone, and followed the steps carefully. After I placed the battery, I checked to see if the phone turns ON and the display is working before I complete the last step of putting the back coverplate. I successfully switched it ON, saw a perfectly working screen, and browsed through my apps. To complete the assembly, I put the back cover by gently pressing the frame along the edges, but suddenly I saw some yellow green lines in the middle of the screen. I switched it off and again switched in ON, but now the entire screen had light with no display.
To fix this, I tried again checking all connections but no luck. What could be the reason for the sudden loss of display when it worked perfectly fine moments ago? Is there a possibility that I damaged the LCD while putting the back cover on the phone?
I am also not sure about one of the ribbon connectors of the digitizer. There are 2 big ones which are prominent and has ports to connect. However, there is a little third one which also has to come through the gap but doesn’t connect anywhere. Has anyone also experienced this while replacing the screen? Any help will be appreciated.
Did a search can't find anything specific to my issues.
So I had to replace my amoled screen (Samsung brand), did the replacement everything works fine. But...
now it seems my touch screen has a mind of it's own. It will jump out of apps on me or it's favorite is to jump to the recent apps screen (the screen when you hold the home down). It first seemed to do this when I held it's sides with a little pressure, now it's doing it less. Now it jumps to the screen when I gently set it down on it's back.
I have opened the phone back up washed my hands with dish soap, then disconnected all the ribbons and q-tipped them with rubbing alcohol to clean any oil off. (this seemed to help the side squeeze issue)
I also applied clear tape to the back side of the new screen like how it was on the OEM screen since it didn't come with any kind of shielding like to OEM screen (ie that weird metal fabric like tape).
I still get issues and am not sure what it could be or I could do, taking it to VW is not an option.
Oddy enough, hitting it seems to help it, I am not sure if something is shorting or what it could be. I have removed the screen and reset it back on the touch pad still nothing helps.
I am about to try cm7 to see if it's a software or hardware thing but I suspect hardware.
Thanks guys
Try a new rom, like you said. This will 100% determine if it is hardware or software. If it still jumps around on cm7, then there is something wrong with the hardware
Sent from my HTC Incredible
I don't know a great deal about replacing hardware on a phone, but is it possible that the screen type is different than the stock type? Some Incredibles have AMOLED screens and others have SLCD. I know with computers, if you replace a part that't not compliant with the original then you have issues.
So maybe the screen you put in isn't compatible with the rest of the hardware?
Just a guess...take my advice with a grain of salt lol
No its the right screen, like I said its the Samsung screen just like oem, the slcd is a Sony product used on 2nd gen dincs. plus the screen and the digitizer are two different parts, the screen is not touch sensitive.
Ah ok. Sorry...like I said, never messed with changing phone hardware....was just tossing out an idea.
I've repaired laptop parts like the LCD, touchpad, and such and had issues with the parts not being exactly the same as OEM, that's why I was asking.
It sounds like a loose connection to me... I havent had any problems with my glass unless its greasy or something. It could also be an issue with the touchpad (button), there is a rubber piece surrounding it that apparently MUST be there... Not sure what would happen if I didn't replace it tho I didn't wanna test it out
So I CM7'ed the phone, it defiantly runs better but it does still bug out.
seems to do it more at work when it's set on my plastic type desk.
I'll pull it apart again and double check the rubber gasket, blow out the optic track button and shim the ribbon connections.
seems something is defiantly shorting just a little bit and it all seems to happen down at the 4 menu buttons side of things
so I pulled it apart one last time. removed the screen and reset it in the case, this time for what it was worth I tried very hard to make sure the screen was mounted as high up toward the top as i could for what it was worth. I also made dbl sure the screen was then firmly pressed back in place and all edges were nice and recessed into it's case.
put the mother board back on and dbl checked all the ribbon connection to make sure they were nice and securely seated and not crooked, then snapped the ribbons down.
I also extended the little grounding? fingers (the ones that press against the copper pads) to make sure they would be firmly in contact with the copper pads. I only extended the ones down by the 4 menu buttons.
I con report it's been about 36 hours and nothing has bugged out yet.
not sure exactly what the issue was but i'll keep you posted if it comes back.
EDIT- there are two different types of tape that holds the battery in. There is no obvious way to tell which type your phone has (to my knowledge). One has foam double sided tape, the other is some kind of thin & very strong adhesive tape. If your phone is the latter, you'll need to be VERY careful when trying to take it out.
I would suggest applying a lot of heat to the front of the phone screen - this should transfer to the tape behind the screen, and make it much easier to remove. If you damage your battery it'll cost approximately $45 USD + shipping to replace it. I haven't tried this method yet, but that is the only way I can see.
Ok, here is my guide / how-to for replacing the display assembly on the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML.
Let me know if you have any questions. I would say it was fairly straight forward - I have not done this before on any phone, and mine works well.
I've posted the full guide with pictures on Imgur here: http://imgur.com/a/KXTFV

Compatible Replacement Part
The original screen has the following code stamped on the back of the display: "TL055VDXP34-00".
The first replacement display assembly (did not work) had the following code: "TLD55VVXP31-00".
The second replacement assembly (did work) had the following code: "TL055VDXP34-00".
On that basis, I would suggest that the first unit I received was an earlier model, and was the incorrect part. I assume that the replacement display assembly must be model TL055VDXP34-00.
Step 1
Remove back cover
Step 2
Remove screws in plastic panel
NOTE: Remember to remove the one next to the camera (this might be covered by a small sticker).
This cover should remove quite easily - if you can't lift it, count those screws! There should be 14. Again - check that one by the camera that is somewhat hidden.
NOTE These screws are actually the only screws which hold the phone together. Once these are out and the cover is up, the speaker unit will fall away from the phone.
Step 3
To remove the plastic panel pry it up at one end, and use a sharp blade to separate the double sided tape between the battery and the plastic panel.
NOTE: I removed the double sided tape completely when I put it back together. It doesn't seem to really be necessary.
Step 4
Remove the antenna cable, vibrate motor, and four other connections.
The three above the battery pop up away from the phone.
Step 5
To disconnect the flat cable at the bottom of the battery you need to first remove the yellow plastic sticker covering it. Next lift the white tab to release the cable, then gently pull the cable out towards the base of the phone.
Step 6
To remove the battery, gently pull up away from the phone. Once you have located the double sided tape holding it to the phone, you should use the sharp blade to separate it from the housing.
NOTE: Be gentle with the small metal tabs on the edge of the battery; these are quite flimsy and will bend if used to force the battery. I removed the double sided tape completely here too, and did not replace it.
Step 7
Once the battery is out you need to lift the copper sheet from the body of the phone, which is held in place with some mild adhesive. Use tweezers and lift from one corner gently, working your way slowly across the square piece.
Step 8
Lift the yellow plastic sticker, then disconnect the screen plug shown in the picture.
NOTE This is a connection for the display, and actually goes under the main unit in a right angle, then up and out a small slit at the top of the phone (shown in picture for step 16). This cable is part of the display assembly, and is being replaced entirely. If it is easier, you could actually cut this cable completely.
Step 9
There are four plastic retainers which fix the remaining unit to the body of the phone. Use a small amount of force on one side to pop this section out. Once this is freed, it should be simple to remove it completely.
Step 10
Once the internal pieces of the phone are removed, you'll need to detach the display cable (from step 8) from the body. This is held in place with some adhesive, and shouldn't be too hard to pry up.
NOTE: Your new display assembly will have some adhesive on the replacement cable - should be self explanatory when fixing this back on.
Step 11
To remove the display itself you'll need to apply heat. I had a heat gun - this makes it a lot easier ($20-$30 on eBay) but you could use a hair drier if you don't have a heat gun. For the sake of comparison - the heat gun took around 30 seconds to heat the display completely, which would take 3-5 minutes with a hair drier.
Once the adhesive behind the screen has been heated up, work your way around the edges of the screen with a sharp razor blade. The display will begin to separate from the housing.
Once mostly free, carefully lift the display cable through the hole in the top of the phone body. Again; you're replacing this cable completely, so don't worry too much about it.
Step 12
You will need to separate the speaker grill from the original display, clean the adhesive off, and attach it for the new screen. I found it easier to attach the grill to the actual phone body (rather than the display assembly).
Step 13
Because of the condition of the adhesive for the screen assembly, I decided to replace the adhesive completely. You could skip this step, but I figured it was worth cleaning it up.
To remove the existing adhesive I just used the sharp razor blade and worked my way around peeling it all off.
NOTE: This would be a good opportunity to 'test fit' the new screen (without adhesive) so you can see where the cables need to go. There is one which goes up behind the screen and through the middle of the phone, and another which goes through the top hole. The top one is a strange shape, and needs to go through sideways first.
Step 14
I used the 3M double sided adhesive tape to go around the edge of the new screen assembly.
NOTE: The replacement adhesive I used was 3M double sided adhesive tape (2mm) - the tape was around $10 from a mobile phone repair supplies store. The tape was too wide and not thick enough, so I doubled it over. It fit perfectly once I did that. Unless you can find thicker double sided tape which is closer to the original adhesive, I would recommend this approach.
Step 15
Once the adhesive is all laid out on the phone, put the screen assembly on. I started from the top and slide the top cable through the hole, then slowly worked my way down to the bottom.
NOTE: I'd suggest you don't press too hard on the adhesive until you are sure that both cables are through to the back, and that the screen is sitting well in the body.
Step 16
Looking at the phone from the back, remove the adhesive backing from the display cable and carefully position the cable between the four black markers.
Step 17
After the new screen is fixed in, start the re-assembly. This is effectively the same as disassembly, but in reverse. There were only a couple of parts that I'd make note of:
a) Keep an eye on the display cable that comes in through the top. Mine got caught on the double sided tape, and needed to be pulled through.
b) You will need to use a little bit of force to mount the processor unit between the four plastic clips. Be careful when doing this. (shown in step 9)
c) I completely removed the double sided tape from under the battery and under the plastic case. I figured that if I need to go back into the phone, I wouldn't want to deal with the tape again. I'm glad I did, because the first screen was a dud.
d) If you lose any of the yellow plastic cable stickers, you can borrow a piece from your old display assembly.

I suppose all the different versions might be my problem. My original screen is manufactured by AUO and is labeled as H546DAN03.4 MP1.0. So far I've gotten three replacements. Two with the XP31 code and one with the XP34. First XP31 only the backlight worked. Second touch screen didn't work. XP34 is acting the same as second XP31. Three attempts later I'm in the same boat. Google search brought up what appears to be an older version of the screen only. Now I'm thinking of sending it to Asus, if they'll still touch it, or call it a loss and buy myself a new phone. It still doesn't explain why the touch screen worked on the first but not the other two though.

The nature of electronics means that it's entirely possible you damaged something in the process. I guess that's part of the risk you take when you go about a DIY repair.
Might be worth double checking all of those connections to make sure that you got them all plugged in.
Also, double check that the phone is charged?

Two with the XP31 code and one with the XP34. First XP31 only the backlight worked. Second touch screen didn't work. XP34 is acting the same as second XP31. Three attempts later I'm in the same boat. Google search brought up what appears to be an older version of the screen only. Now I'm thinking of sending it to Asus, if they'll still touch it, or call it a loss and buy myself a new phone. It still doesn't explain why the touch screen worked on the first but not the other two though.

make sure you slide in the connector on the top left (i think CON2001)
Excellent write up.. Thanks
Good work and excellent write up.

Almost certain that's caused by a loose cable - had a similar issue with mine. Open it up, check the cables are seated properly.
I have an issue now after replacing the screen where it says "Camera failed to launch. Please reboot." Did you ever see this, or better yet know of a solution. The connectors to the camera are ok as are all other connectors.
Very thanks
i used some rubbing alcohol to loosen up the adhesive for the battery. I lifted up one side of the battery and put a few drops of rubbing alcohol onto the adhesive. it worked perfectly to weaken the adhesive and i was able to pull the battery up without damaging the battery.
that was probably the hardest part of the repair.
I have a ZE551ML, i got the XP31 screen, and at first the touch did not work.
I double checked the cable from the screen to the main board.
Turned out there was tape on it. Moved the tape, reassembled, and the screen worked.

I also have a similar problem after finally managing to get one screen working properly;
After changing two screens without being able to get touch to work I had to go back to my old, and seriously broken, screen - which still worked every time I remounted it
However, in a last move of desperation I checked the cable connections, cleaned them off just in case and especially wedging the tiny flat cable into its slot extra hard and deep... and at the second go, it just booted up as usual - with touch fully working (!!!)
Now almost all is well again, even though my old and new screen have completely different numbers...?
So maybe, what can sometimes be needed is to really shove the tiny flat cable from the screen (connects on the top left of the mainboard) into its slot and to boot and reboot more than twice to get touch active...?
On another note, for my personal sake, the SD-card slot seems to be malfunctioning, and if I have an SD mounted the phone reboots itself at some point and runs incredibly hot. So obviously I leave it out. However, as much as I wanted it to be due to the double sided flat cable (with SIM1/2 and SD slot) running across the battery between the mainboard and the speaker/usb-board, it seems that the actual connection on the mainboard has been damaged and probably needs to be replaced. But after extensive searching online I cannot find a single thing. I work in electronic manufacturing and would in theory easily be able to solder a new one in place.
Does anyone know what this is called?
PS. Maybe this last part should go into another thread, but the first paragraphs are on topic, I believe (and can maybe help someone...?)
Having some issues with it
I'm having problems with the touch screen. It started to be unresponsive some days after I replaced it, but it didn't notice it at the beginning because the problem wasn't serious. However, the following days it started to be always less responsive, and now the top part of the screen it doesn't response at all. Inexplicably, sometimes the touch screen works perfectly for some minutes, and then becomes totally unresponsive.
The software is up to date. Have you any idea of what's happening?
Question: screen adhesive to be purchased separately, or does it come with the screen? Thanks!
A small PSA for anyone having issues with the touchpanel on Redmi 5 Plus:
This isn't a bug (though some of you may already know this); it's related to copper oxides forming on the connector of the touchpanel. The fix is surprisingly easy - the most difficult part is popping off the metal back panel which is kept in place by little notches. A pry tool or the side of a pill blister pack can be used (or anything thin like a guitar pick). You need to eject the SIM tray, then start at either bottom corner and get something lodged between the trim (the usb port is a good place to start). Then gradually use something else to work your way up the sides of the device until it pops off. Do not use anything with too much surface hardness or you could damage the chassis materials.
The touchscreen connector is the one left of the fingerprint sensor and immediately above the battery. It's a wide rectangle and identical to one across from it on the right (the connector for the battery). You can either pop it off and reseat it back down (which is what I did) or clean the pins with some isopropyl (do NOT use water). You probably won't notice anything amiss with the pins; the oxides are largely invisible and will have built up as the copper pins oxidise with the air. Just re-seating the connector may disturb the surface oxides enough to fix the issue completely. It did for me but you're best cleaning it with a minute amount of isopropyl on a new toothbrush; allow it to evaporate and seat it back in place.
After doing this my Redmi 5 Plus behaves like it did brand new. No intermittent input freezes; no keyboard taps missed, no mis-registered swipes. It's back to normal. 24 hours and counting; the difference is unmistakable, night and day.
I did it man and at first i thought it improved the touch screen but after a while i noticed touch screen non responsiveness all over so i think this is merely a placebo effect.

Did you seat the connector fully down? Sometimes it appears like it's clicked into place but it hasn't.
The guy who posted the YouTube video for this said you need to clean the connector with alcohol (i.e isopropyl). I didn't, I think it's pot-luck that reseating the connector worked for me. Supposedly you do need to clean it. I'd suggest re-attempting with some isopropyl if you didn't already but I can say without a doubt it's worked for me. The screen is back to normal responsiveness here and it was a right pain the a- to use before. Not had even a hint of the old unresponsiveness; I can say with certainty it's not placebo now it's been 24 hours. I was getting tons of input freezes before; now not a single instance.
