[SOLVED] TWRP 3.0.0.0 Restore Backup Error - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I'm experiencing some troubles with the new 3.0.0.0 TWRP.
When I try to restore a backup (that I've made with 3.0.0.0) I always get the error message: Cannot restore System - read mount only
Does anybody have a similar problem? Maybe there're just some settings that need to be fixed. Would be nice if anybody could help me, because one of the core features of TWRP is to restore backups. At least for me.
Any idea appreciated
Ah oh, I'm running CM13 02.22.2016 nightly

Go to Mount and untick system is read only.
Then tick system.
Done.

Nandroid Backup

Hi!
I'm running Racing Bean V2 with LuPuS V6 Kernel. I'm very content but have one serious problem. I can't backup my system with TWRP. It always says "Failed" Does anyone else know this or can tell me what to do in order to make a Nadroid Backup? Do I have to change something in the preferences or s.th. like that? I'd like to hold this Kernel and this kind of Recovery is very well structured except this point.....
I'd be glad about useful tipps and answers.
So far
Greetings
I use TWRP find it very good, In preferences when you select back up make sure system, data, and enable compression is checked.I personally dont have cache or skip MD5 Generation checked I leave these two blank and it works great for me.Please note back up takes a lot longer than CWM 5 mins + so don't panic and think it's stuck. Hope that helps:fingers-crossed:
Alternative is to use Online Backup app from Play Store.
I'm not sure, if I remember correctly.
Backup Complete FAILED!
*Backup Folder: /sdcard/TWRP/Backups/0000000000
E:Unable to locate boot partition. Any suggestions, what I could do?
That's exactly the result I always get. And this time I did it just the way you described it, tallman.
In cwm I had no problems but I really prefer LUpUs compared to Arc Fusion 4.0

I just opened my TWRP-Folder and there are only my failed-backups and nothing else. I never did fastboot by command until now due to the fact that I'm still a bloody beginner. Maybe I should re-download the LuPus and hope new Flashing would help. Or I'll try to find another version of the TWRP which is a flashable zip. Don't know if that exists......I'm gonna search here
Greetings
delete all the failed backup files and try to re-flash kernel.

Correcting myself - Orange Backup.
And in Settings, choose to not backup boot partition. On SE devices, boot partition cannot be backed up, it cannot be accessed from Recovery at all.

[Q] new @ samnsung and need some help

Hy
i have got myself a new mini (coming from htc) and have some questions.
first what i did already:
rooted the phone (works after flashing update for superSU)
did a nandroid backup
flashed custom rom CM10
flashed gapps
now after doing this, i came to conclusion i needed the original dropbox for getting the free storage (didn't work @cm). i wanted to get this using android manager and now the problems starts:
nandroid manager need other superuser, so i installed superSU again and flashed the update. but now i haven't got root anmore
in recovery a did a restore from my backup => the phone bootes, but give me a lot of errors and freezes a little (gapps, google services,...)
whent back to racovery and flashed again CM10 and gapps => everything works
but now i am back at the beginning and some more questions:
how can i install other superuser in CM10 without problems
why crashes my backup
what can i do if i restore (maybe flash gapps?)
did it also with titanium backup pro but gives error for other bussybox. after installing new one, still not ok
manny thanks in advance

Same here . if factory reset the apps from the play store can't write in data partition . flash arco68 kernel before cwm backup then backup and everything is ok .the problem is the stock kernel(security settings).

TWRP - E:Unable to mount '/system'

I just recently installed the TWRP v2.6.3.0 on my 210R, and after trying to install the V5 FastDream ROM, it completes, and then TWRP says Updating partition details... and then the next line is E:Unable to mount '/system'. And then when I try to reboot into the ROM that completed installing, it just sits at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 screen. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Having the same identical problem here with different ROM someone suggested using clockwork recovery. Just flashed that and did a recovery. I'll try and report back if that fixed the issue.

Nevermind
When in recovery go to the Mount tab and is system checked?
I had the same issue when installing my 1st custom rom. To resolve just reflash the custom rom again i.e. reboot into recovery manually (menu button + volume up + power button) then install the custom rom again.
I too had this problem, didn't try reflashing but switching to clockwork fixed it for me. I don't like it as much as TWRP but it worked

TWRP will not let select "System" under Mount. I have tried to reflash CWM Recovery with no avail. my tab locks up at the recovery boot screen. have to reflash TWRP back. now I have no Rom due to my mistake of making a backup on the device memory instead of my sd card. can someone knows where I can find a stock rom I can flash using Odin?.
The strockrom you can find at sammobile.com. You just sign in but its free.
I have the same device and had the same problem.
Instead of using TWRP or the ordinary CWM, @Ripshock suggested to me Phils CWM v2, here, and with absolutely one try, I had my RocketTab 3.1 up and running.
Just remember to always perform a backup with each recovery you experiment with. From personal experience TWRP, CWM and Phil's CWM v2, each backup differently, therefore, they only restore the backup they made (so i assume). But so far, my Tab works like a charm.
E: it sits at the Galaxy Tab screen because there is no OS installed once that system mount error occurs. Restore the stock backup and flash Phils CWM v2 with Odin.

Is that your TWRP Version 2.4.4.0?
If yes, its to old , flash The newest one TWRP 2.7.0.1.
Which Rom you want to flash?, depent ob Rom / updater script you need The newest Recovery Version.

0k, I'll try.
In this moment, it's only a brick.
So did you get a solution for the mounting issues ?
I have a same problem on my Umi Zero, TWRP is not unable to mount system and after wipe I cannot flash any ROM or even restore myu backup, it always says unable to mount /system. Any idea how to fix this?
Same proble with p900
i have same problem as you guys. I have E:Unable to mount '/cache' and yes i have unticked Cache. At star, it looks like it works, cyanogenmod loading screen appears and animation is running, but thats all. Nothing else i can do. Waiting about 2 hours still nothing. Any ideas ? TWRP is the latest 2.8.7.0
I had the same issue when I tried to change kernel and I couldn't: in my case (d802 with a working ROM) nothing was mounted (system, data, etc) even though I switched from TWRP to CWM and vice versa. However it came to me that I had encrypted the device and when I entered recovery, I was not prompted with the pin to unlock it. I had the latest version of TWRP (v.2.8.6) according to Flashify app and still nothing. Problem solved when I installed the TWRP by blastagator (v.2.8.7.3). By entering recovery, I am prompted with the pin to unlock device and everything works perfectly without touching anything my existing ROM!

Thanks for this dude. I couldn't mount System with CW either but nevertheless it installed this rom (Sweet Dreams V2) on my gf's tablet like a charm.
hi guys i have a solution to the same problem
First try to format your data in wipe
then try to wipe cache, data, system' one by one
it worked for me
Good luck
today i found my old phone, bricked, i've spent my morning fixing it. i faced the same problem, my solution was: change the system from ext4 to ext2, then i went to Mount tab and checked the system. Works fine to me
im using TWRP_Win_JUL-2014.tar
you can change the ext4 to ext2 by: going to Wipe, Advanced Wipe -> FS options -> Change FS

recovery help please

hi i have a major issue this morning i flashed the dark one viper theme on my m8 i am rooted soff after it installed i hit the reboot button but when it rebooted it hung at boot screen so i hard rebooted and went to recovery which is philz recovery i then wiped cache and dalvic and rebooted but it still got stuck at the boot screen so i reentered recovery it took longer to load than usual and i was greeted with this message at the bottom of the screen
E: could not mount /data to setup /data/media path i tried to restore my nandroid backup but it failed at the data partion i also restored recover settings to default just incase id accidently pressed something i shouldnt have as the touchscreen is quite sensitive but nothing has worked does anybody know how i can fix this issue please i really need my phone any advise on this would be most appreciated thank you
Try to reflash recovery and see if it fixes the mounting problem. If it does restore your nandroid
Edit: or first try to wipe /data, /system, /cache and dalvik and then restore nandroid
thanks
thank you ill give it a try is this a common issue then its had me worried
You're telling that you are rootet. But are you also running the Viper ROM.? Guess you do as you flashed a corresponding theme.
If not the problem could be cause by flashing a Viper theme on a ROM not intended to work with it .

tried wiping data system ect. but its says error mounting data formatting system worked i also tried installing the rom but its says cant mount sd card format cache didnt work either
now when i power down from recovery it says apply root this is getting worse
Are you using twrp? Try to fix permissions. If it doesn't work maybe for some reason you lost root? Try to reflash supersu maybe?
atm im using philz but i was advised to wipe system ,data , and caches and now i have no sofware on the phone and i cant install anything as it cant mount data partion or internal sd card im not sure what to do someone has said to do a full wipe flash via sneakyghosts thread but im kind of lost and i have no idea what i need to do
Philz has fix permissions as well I think. Try it first...or as I suggested try to reflash supersu maybe you lost root
i cant find fix perms anywhere i flashed supersu but im still getting the error thanks but still nothing working
i started to flash viper rom again it failed but it seems to have fixed the su problem but i still cant acess internal sd card or data partition any ides please would be apreciated thanks
Can you try to reflash Philz?
If you have no success can you try and flash TWRP and see if it makes any difference? I'm just trying to eliminate all variables.

i have reflashed philz and it still isnt reading internal sd or my data partition
edit same problem with twrp i tried fixing perms but it failed at data partion
I have your solution ?
Why?
Because I had exact same problem as you have now.
I'm on venom rom. Flashed 2.0.0 rom had not updated firmware however.
After flashing theme Viper dark I got very, very, very long boot time.
After 15 mins or so I hard "button rebooted" device. Resulting in data block being totally corrupted.
As your virtual SD card is a partition on /Data, and data is totally corrupted you won't see or be able to mount your SD card too.
Reflashing recovery, rom or whatever won't help /data stays corrupt.
Now the best part....
I got the tools for you to make your data block fine again, so it again can be mounted and you can see and use the internal sdcard.
You will of course loose anything on the data and virtual sdcard so you must flash a rom after fixing data.
Tools are on my pc, and I'm on my phone right now so I will upload it later and give you link and instructions.
That is if you still have this problem.
