An older backup is working.
Does this mean that the other one from today is corrupt?
Sounds likely. At least your phone is OK. Gnex is nearly impossible to completely brick.
I got this issue a couplw of days ago..
Every ****ing zip I tried to flash gave me status 7 error, every backup thay worked perfectly in the past gave me a md5 mismatch, also the /system restore error.
It was like my recovery corrupted.
I just flashed back to the stock fastboot images from google. I re-rooted and reflashed cwm. Everything is well now.

Hi, I will have my hands on this tablet very soon and want to use the Cleanrom that is listed in a thread here. This will be my first time doing this and have been searching around for a guide. I have read a few bits and pieces but would like someone to explain in a few steps so i can get this right the first time.
I found a guide to Root it at rootgalaxynote.com but would like to understand how to install the CleanROM.
Hello,
You have to install TWRP Recovery first, then you need to copy Rom.zip to storage and then flash it using Recovery, dont forget about Wipe.

I havent installed anything yet as i will be receiving it for christmas. Not 100% sure on process so was posting here hoping someone could explain the process a bit more in laymans terms as this will be the first time i will be doing this. i understand you have to root the device so you can change the ROM, wasnt sure on what to do after that.

All you need is to Install Custom Recovery to change ROM, that will allow you to do anything you want with your device (such as System Backup/Restore, installing .zip packages, and etc.) read thread about TWRP so you can find everything you need to know.
But notice the fact you'll lose your warranty installing custom roms, as I know there is no way to change warranty bit back to 0 yet.
All information you need to know about Custom Roms is already there.

Can you give me a link to the TWRP thread you refereed to thanks.

Here you can find TWRP. I would recommend flashing the ".0"version because some people are having problems with the newer one
Worked fine for me , just did the same process as you

Step 3. Download and unzip P600_Autoroot.zip:

Edit: Should i do this first before the TWPR?
Build says CleanRom 1.0 but all apps are still present
My build says CleanRom 1.0 but I still have all of the apps that others say are removed such as Sketchbook. My note was rooted using the AutoRoot file with Odin and then the stock recovery was flashed. I then used the twrp 3.0 file and booted into recovery. I then installed CleanRom (without reset per instructions) and the device rebooted and everything worked except all of the apps were still there. I then tried to re-flash CleanRom and perform the wipe but I then got stuck on the Samsung splash screen to no avail. I booted into recovery and tried re-flashing the CleanRom zip to no avail. All I could do to get this thing booted was to flash the auto-root file again in Odin, re-flash twrp, and install cleanrom again from the recovery but all of the apps are still there. Before I did any of this I had a bunch of the bloatware either frozen or uninstalled in Titanium but now some of those apps show lines through them in TBP. Either way, my device is showing CleanRom 1.0 under the build but I really don't think it is... any ideas on how to fix this?
Hi i'm a newbie on android
i've tried to install this rom a lot of time but unsuccessfully at any time
i've tried all the solutions i found here but none were successfull
i am under TWRP 2.6.3.0
my tablet is rooted but after the rom flash ,when i reboot ,just after the "galaxy note edition 2014" logo there's a black screen
the only way to repair is to flash with the mk1 stock rom after or to restore my old version saved with TWRP
can someone help ?
thanks

Before flashing your rom perform a factory reset in twrp and format /data. All your apps will be deleted and you should be fine if you are stuck on the samsung boot logo it might help to boot into recovery and format /cache and dalvik cache

So, I did the factory reset in twrp and then formatted the data. Naturally, everything was lost but when I went to install CleanRom it was no longer on the internal memory due to the format... but I did copy it to the Ext SD Card. MY problem is that twrp won't install the zip from the sd card. Each time it says its unable to mount "/data" even though I'm going into "advanced settings" and placing the check mark. I re-flashed twrp and tried using file manager to move the file to the internal storage but came up with the same problem. Also, I can't place the check on mount data for some reason. Now, my tablet starts to boot up but hangs on the samsung screen before the boot animation. Basically, its like there isn't any firmware on it and I tried re-doing the auto-root and stock recovery but thats a no go as well. Is this thing toasted?

Boot into TWRP and click "Restore Back Up" (Cannot remember exact verbiage) . Find where it says internal storage and press it and it will switch to a drop down and you can choose "External SD" Then go back and and it should be going to External SD instead of internal SD when you select install
Make sure you factory re-set. For safety, I advance wipe but I don't think that is necessary.
You may need to re-flash recovery if you're unable to access it.

Your device is not toasted I always have the Rom zip on the root directory of the device so formatting /data will not affect the rom zip. If you cant get it working then you might need to flash a firmware via odin and after that copy the rom on the internal root directory. Resetting your device should not format the whole internal storage so you can install the rom afterwards. Good luck mate

After the holiday (and many stressful attempts) I was finally able to re-boot the device and get past the splash screen. Opening Kies seemed to "kick" past the splash screen even though it said my device wasn't compatible with Kies. Anyway, I flashed the stock recovery, wiped, reset, flashed original firmware via Odin, flashed TWRP again, and then installed the CleanRom zip. Phew... it's FINALLY over with no issues and running smooth. I think the problem came in with TWRP not wiping correctly even though it said it did. I do appreciate all of the help and advice as you guys are life-savers!

When I installed with TWRP 2.6.3.3 & 2.6.3.1 I got the write permission denied and then I tried with 2.6.3.0 it got hung while installing CleanRom 1.5R2. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? Thanks
So my sister recently bought a used phone running 4.1.2 and it started rebooting on its own for some reason or another. I am able to get into twrp 2.3.1.1 recovery and do a factory reset but the reboot loop problem still remains. I tried the other options in the wipe menu like wiping the internal storage but it says its unable to mount /data. Even in the Mount Menu i am unable to check the Mount data box.
I've also got the hurricane v4 rom downloaded but i am unable to install it for some reason. Is it because i am unable to mount the /data? Would a Format data work to install the hurricane rom? I've tried to download the 4.3 stock rom but not successful due to such a crappy internet connection. Luckily the hurricane v4 rom that i got from here supported the resume download function.

I also have note 2 with this strange reboot problem.
The OS doesn't matter at all for me (check that also).
If the problem will still remain, then I must say that it's a hardware malfunction.
Mine has it too, and does some random reboots at any time, specially when it has been used for longer time.

Go to mounts and storage and click on format/system, format/cache, format/preload , format/data and format/data and data/media (/sdcard)<--- this will format your internal storage,so back up if you have anything saved on it..NOTE: Do NOT format storage/sdcard1 cause this is your external sd card if you accidentally do format it you will lose all the contents on your sd card.If you still want to format your external sd card by this way make sure you have a card reader handy to be able to transfer the downloaded ROM and other contents on your sd card.
Now go back to main menu and click on advanced menu and wipe dalvik cache ,once again go back to main menu and click on wipe cache partition and go ahead and wipe it.At the very end go back to main menu and click on wipe data/factory reset and choose Clean to install a New ROM.Done.You have successfully performed all the wipes. Now you can go ahead and flash the ROM.

None of the modems worked. I've deleted the /system and /data and all the steps you gave me and restored back to 4.1.2 with twrp and the darnedest thing happened. no reboot loop, only thing is that there still is no service. The GCI screen shows up when booting (my cell phone service) . i was pretty sure the efs was checked when i backed it up a few days ago. I think i dun goofed on this one.
EDIT: Looking at the 4.1.2 backed up rom on my computer, there is a efs.ext4.win.md5 and a efs.ext4.win file on there.

So i finally got a premium link download on rapidgator and am downloading this stock rom atm. so its resumable (hooray!).
When done, i use the "PHONE" option in odin right? Im guessing installing the stock rom also re installs the stock recovery? Crossing my fingers (and toes lol) hoping this download finishes. If her phone doesnt work after all this i talked her into letting me buy it. It seems like a really nice phone. If she lets me buy it im thinking to get the Moga controller afterwards and installing some emulators and games, it'll be a nice little portable system.
SOLVED

hi i have a major issue this morning i flashed the dark one viper theme on my m8 i am rooted soff after it installed i hit the reboot button but when it rebooted it hung at boot screen so i hard rebooted and went to recovery which is philz recovery i then wiped cache and dalvic and rebooted but it still got stuck at the boot screen so i reentered recovery it took longer to load than usual and i was greeted with this message at the bottom of the screen
E: could not mount /data to setup /data/media path i tried to restore my nandroid backup but it failed at the data partion i also restored recover settings to default just incase id accidently pressed something i shouldnt have as the touchscreen is quite sensitive but nothing has worked does anybody know how i can fix this issue please i really need my phone any advise on this would be most appreciated thank you
Try to reflash recovery and see if it fixes the mounting problem. If it does restore your nandroid
Edit: or first try to wipe /data, /system, /cache and dalvik and then restore nandroid
thanks
thank you ill give it a try is this a common issue then its had me worried
You're telling that you are rootet. But are you also running the Viper ROM.? Guess you do as you flashed a corresponding theme.
If not the problem could be cause by flashing a Viper theme on a ROM not intended to work with it .

now when i power down from recovery it says apply root this is getting worse
Are you using twrp? Try to fix permissions. If it doesn't work maybe for some reason you lost root? Try to reflash supersu maybe?
atm im using philz but i was advised to wipe system ,data , and caches and now i have no sofware on the phone and i cant install anything as it cant mount data partion or internal sd card im not sure what to do someone has said to do a full wipe flash via sneakyghosts thread but im kind of lost and i have no idea what i need to do
Philz has fix permissions as well I think. Try it first...or as I suggested try to reflash supersu maybe you lost root

i started to flash viper rom again it failed but it seems to have fixed the su problem but i still cant acess internal sd card or data partition any ides please would be apreciated thanks

i have reflashed philz and it still isnt reading internal sd or my data partition
edit same problem with twrp i tried fixing perms but it failed at data partion
I have your solution ?
Why?
Because I had exact same problem as you have now.
I'm on venom rom. Flashed 2.0.0 rom had not updated firmware however.
After flashing theme Viper dark I got very, very, very long boot time.
After 15 mins or so I hard "button rebooted" device. Resulting in data block being totally corrupted.
As your virtual SD card is a partition on /Data, and data is totally corrupted you won't see or be able to mount your SD card too.
Reflashing recovery, rom or whatever won't help /data stays corrupt.
Now the best part....
I got the tools for you to make your data block fine again, so it again can be mounted and you can see and use the internal sdcard.
You will of course loose anything on the data and virtual sdcard so you must flash a rom after fixing data.
Tools are on my pc, and I'm on my phone right now so I will upload it later and give you link and instructions.
That is if you still have this problem.

You will of course loose anything on the data and virtual sdcard so you must flash a rom after fixing data.
Tools are on my pc, and I'm on my phone right now so I will upload it later and give you link and instructions.
That is if you still have this problem.

exellent thank you so much i appreciate it very much yes i do still have the problem ive been researching all day and asking in various threads i have something on standby but ill wait to see what you did as you have alraedy encountered this problem thank you again
Right, so. Managed to unlock and root my M9 successfully, no problems, using a good guide, which included making a Nandroid backup prior to rooting.
So I decide to get rid of LeeDroid and restore my Nandroid backup. All went well. Then TWRP asks if I want to install SuperSU as my device isn't rooted. So swipe yes, and it goes through the usual list, and just as it gets to the last line my phone goes off, and reboots.
I've tried both the stable and beta and always get the same damn crash/reboot, tried the mounting methods, but NOTHING works!
Could anyone shed any light as to why? It's the GSM variant of the M9.

what exact version of twrp?
Is the backup a system IMAGE backup?
are you entering TWRP in read-only mode?
When you try to restore now, what does the terminal output say?
TWRP version 2.8.7.0
The backup was made using TWRP after flashing it for the first time, which included the usual data, system, etc.
Not sure about TWRP entering read only mode. I read it only does this on unmodified software. Mine is still saying modified even after restoring my nandroid.
Also unsure of what the terminal says without copying the log. Can restore it as many times as I want.
Can't be much more help until I get to a PC.
I'm still S-On, etc. Have a feeling it's to do with the TWRP read only thing...

well, when you go to restore twrp, does it say unable to wipe system/cache, etc?
If so, go into the mount menu and put a check mark in the system read only box, then uncheck it and try to restore again.
If that doesn't work, try updating to the latest twrp, which is 2.8.7.1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=8915#downloads

I'll have to check, but don't think it does.
I'll try that new version of TWRP and report back.
Many thanks for the help, greatly appreciated.

Flashed that latest TWRP. Then tried flashing SuperSU. Same thing. Just shuts off completely and reboots back to Android.
In the mount menu, system is unchecked. and the bottom "Only mount system read-only" is also unchecked.
The Terminal log gets to..
"Placing files..."
Restoring files..."
Then shuts off. I'm starting to think I'm going to have to flash a stock RUU and start from scratch.
BTW this is after checking system. It seems to do nothing at all.
EDIT: Would not having an external SD in it matter at all? I originally flashed SuperSU using the internal SD card.

What happens when you restore your backup and reboot without installing supersu?

Will let you know soon. Just restoring again.
When I made the Nandroid backup, there's a new option to backup recovery too, which I did. Could this mean anything? I'm assuming it's backed up TWRP because stock obviously wasn't present when making the backup.
Will try and screenshot the log.

Yeah backing up recovery doesn't matter....as you suspected it just backs up twrp, so if you backed up the older version, then updated it, don't restore the old version

Interesting. There's nothing saying it couldn't write anything..
Just tried opening SuperSU from my restored backup, and hits me with "There is no SuperSU binary installed!" This is a problem, blah, blah, etc.
Then tried check-boxing the 'system' box in the Mount section. Then tried flashing UPDATESuperSu.VsXX and just gave me the usual as said above. Crashed and reboots.

Losing the will to live! Ha
What about trying to push SuperSU via ADB?
EDIT: Think I'm getting ahead of myself. Not possible to flash SuperSU via ADB is it..?

The only way I ever do it is by swiping to install as I'm rebooting out of recovery.

Would you say the nuclear option would be to sit and bide my time until a decent RUU becomes available and start from scratch?

Well I was going to sell the phone, since it's only 2 weeks old, and obviously for warranty reasons. So back to 100% stock, which includes it saying Software Status: Official and it saying "Locked" instead of re-locked.
CID is HTC__001
Firmware is Lollipop 5.0.2 - Software version 1.40.401.8 (CL549783 release-keys)

What about stock recovery? Is that included I take it...?
Still getting used to all this in-depth flashing Android stuff. Managed to convert my M8 to the GP Edition without any trouble.

Yeah. That's included. If you did that then you can get that thing back to stock.
Probably find the ruu here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/stock-nand-backup-ota-update-collection-t3132698

Wow, thankyou! I've been Googling RUU's all night at work and found nothing like this. Think I'll do that and flash the RUU and start afresh!
Getting a killer 17.4 kbp/s though. 100mb connection wasted. Ha!

Yay it worked! Using a stock image from that link. Something must of been really screwed up. I'm now re-rooted! Many thanks for your help!
