Nandroid Backup - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I'm running Racing Bean V2 with LuPuS V6 Kernel. I'm very content but have one serious problem. I can't backup my system with TWRP. It always says "Failed" Does anyone else know this or can tell me what to do in order to make a Nadroid Backup? Do I have to change something in the preferences or s.th. like that? I'd like to hold this Kernel and this kind of Recovery is very well structured except this point.....
I'd be glad about useful tipps and answers.
So far
Greetings

I use TWRP find it very good, In preferences when you select back up make sure system, data, and enable compression is checked.I personally dont have cache or skip MD5 Generation checked I leave these two blank and it works great for me.Please note back up takes a lot longer than CWM 5 mins + so don't panic and think it's stuck. Hope that helps:fingers-crossed:

Alternative is to use Online Backup app from Play Store.
I'm not sure, if I remember correctly.

Backup Complete FAILED!
*Backup Folder: /sdcard/TWRP/Backups/0000000000
E:Unable to locate boot partition. Any suggestions, what I could do?
That's exactly the result I always get. And this time I did it just the way you described it, tallman.
In cwm I had no problems but I really prefer LUpUs compared to Arc Fusion 4.0

I just opened my TWRP-Folder and there are only my failed-backups and nothing else. I never did fastboot by command until now due to the fact that I'm still a bloody beginner. Maybe I should re-download the LuPus and hope new Flashing would help. Or I'll try to find another version of the TWRP which is a flashable zip. Don't know if that exists......I'm gonna search here
Greetings

delete all the failed backup files and try to re-flash kernel.

Correcting myself - Orange Backup.
And in Settings, choose to not backup boot partition. On SE devices, boot partition cannot be backed up, it cannot be accessed from Recovery at all.

Problems With GNex

Hi all, I have some problems on my gnex.
This happens because I think I have deleted some system files.
1st problem: when I install a rom at the first boot the phone gives me this error: "the application speech engine Google has locked in an unusual way"
2nd problem: when I open camera or gallery the phone gives me this error: "no external storage available"
3rd problem: sometimes the phone gives me the error: "youtube application has locked in an unusual way"
Ok...there are too much problems...just a question now: I want to reset ALL my gnex, I want to delete ALL the files there are in it. I can't do it flashing a new rom or formatting system from recovery. How can I do?
Thanks!
need more details
Without some more details on what ROM you are having these issues with, which recovery you're using, ... it's kind of difficult to help out... That aside, when you flash a new ROM, be sure to first do a full wipe through the recovery. I've flashed my phones numerous times over the years and every single time I had a problem at first boot it was because I didn't do the full wipe. Also, carefully read the instructions posted on the first (and second & third if any) thread, usually the dev explains carefully which steps are necessary to succeed.

That's odd... Maybe something wrong with the device itself in that case... To go back to stock, the easiest way by far is the GNex Toolkit. It has an option to download the Google image & lets you easily flash it.

Well that depends what you mean by that... What it will do is flash the stock ROM that is made by Google onto your device. It will replace the current installed system with the stock one. It will be like when you first got the phone, with the default ICS installed. Obviously a device without a system installed on it would be useless, unless you're looking for a new expensive paper weight of course .
If you still have the same problems after that, I'd recommend returning it to the shop you got it from for a repair/refund. Don't forget to re-lock it though if you decide to go that way .
The problem is that with root explorer i see two folder about storage: sdcard and storage>sdcard0. I think i have deleted some files in these folders. Is there a way to reset their files?
/sdcard & /storage/sdcard0 both refer to the same, namely the internal memory. No way to recover deleted data though. What exactly did you delete??

Flashing the stock image will return all your files to factory. You don't need to delete anything.

Use odin or fastboot. Kits are easier but i trust fastboot above all. And do a backup before flashing anything...tag way can restore. Then factory wipe, then format cache, then go to advanced and format dalvik, THEN flash the ROM

The toolkit uses fastboot... It just presents you with scripted menus and composes the correct command depending on your choices. Makes it a lot easier to get stuff done without having to remember all the different commands .
Are you sure? So i have to flash the stock image?
Without more info on what exactly you deleted it's hard to say. Flashing stock should work for restoring the phone though .

Just use the toolkit I linked to earlier. You can make it download the latest google stock image and flash that one.

Upgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.2.X Fail...

So I attempted to upgrade my girlfriend's Galaxy Nexus from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 (this is on Verizon. Was using a Xenon HD version from last August and attempted to update to the newest version).
Well, since I'm an idiot, I didn't read up on the file system changes and now I can't figure out how to get everything working properly. I have the sdcard/0 now and haven't been able to move the files over from sdcard/0 to the sdcard.
All I want to do at this point is just restore a nandroid backup and start over from scratch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... I'm also having driver issues, so if there's any way to do this without using ADB, that would help immensely.
Thanks in advance.
The SDcard/0 is supposed to exist. Take 10 minutes to do the tiniest bit of searching and all your problems will solve themselves.
can you boot into recovery? what do you mean you cant get things working properly

Yeah I can get into recovery but when I try to restore nandroid it says there are no files, and I know there is a backup.
I did a half hour of searching, but thanks for the help. I must not be searching for the right thing....
so can the phone turn on? or can you only boot into recovery

Yeah I can turn it on. Gapps didn't install, though, so I don't have a keyboard and can't install goomanager from the play store to update recovery. I also can't move files in the file manager because it times out very time.
if you still have the old xenon rom .zip file on the phone you could just flash that after wiping/clearing everything. then from there boot into recovery and see if you can see your nandroid backup of the old xenon she was on. not sure if this will help but worth a try. looks like the new xenon rom required a full wipe so something may be messed up that you could fix by flashing an older version

As 063_XOBX said, sdcard/0 is supposed to exist. Considering your comment later in the thread about not being able to find old backups, it sounds like you have an outdated recovery that doesn't understand the new file structure. Update your recovery rather than screwing with Google's intended file structure.

What driver issues? You haven't been overly clear with the actual problems that you're having. You said you had a problem with Gapps. Why not download and flash a Gapps package?

Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 GT-P5210 - Bootloader Problem

Hello everyone...
I need little help with Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1inches bootloader, i accidentally format the System using advanced wipe in TWRP recovery... now it only boots for few seconds and then reboot and get back to recovery mode...
can anyone upload or have had such problem can help me with this?
looking forward to get some help soon.
Cheers
Looks like none has the BL file? can someone guide me where to extract from or look for? as i have tried few roms and none had BL file.
Still in need of it...

Please watch-out. Be ware that "bootloader" partitions are a dangerous to be play with. You do not want to touch that in any way!!
I know it is confuse when we talk about all this "boot" related issues. To same the seem related to "bootloader" It is NOT, Well it is on the very basic. But one thing is true USERs under normal circumstances DO NOT touch that part,. In fact, that is the very reason you can not find any BL in the STOCK ROMS. They are dangerous to play with. Wao I said dangerous many time all ready, I guess do not need to say that again.
One thing is Almost sure, I you have problems with the BL partitions chances are you can not do anything to recover. You will need special expertise like JTAG, etc.
There are many reasons to see reboot or loopboot. One is clear described by you
...boots for few seconds and then reboot and get back to recovery mode..

...accidentally format the System using advanced wipe in TWRP recovery

So to me it is clear is rebooting back in to recovery because you delete the "system".
1) Simplest way to resolve this issue is Use Odin and reinstall a Stock Rom.
OR
2) In the other hand you should be able to put a copy of a Stock Rom in Update.zip format inside a External SDCARD.
Or
3) you can use TWRP and use "Recovery from backup" to see if you can get back to your old files.
Please remember to wipe cache and dalvik before install Stock Rom zip.
By the way I do not chat a lot I am starting to write about a year ago. I use English as a second language.
I seen many people used "bump " like you. I know it seems stupid but, What do you mean by bump?
I guess you are sad that do not get any answer is that the case? Thanks for teaching me this slangs.

you need to reflash the entire rom. a rom release that instructs you not to wipe system is
usually an update or mod as opposed to a complete rom.
goto the rom section and download a complete stock release. or goto my devhost
archive and look for a stock kernel in the 5210 section.
m
if you go to SamMobile you will find what you are looking for. it will require you to sign up the wait an hour to download the firmware but it will work like a charm.
sammobile→firmwares→database→GT-P5210→firmware you are looking for.
if you are in canada you now can get the firmware you need unlike before.

Easy-to-flash backup of VUPMP.GPRO.sG3.Stable

UPDATE:
Flash using **CWM from Freegee**( I previously recommended Philz for the updated look and features but it is SUPER inconsistent and unfortunately unreliable, I do not mean any offense to its creator/developer, it is just too much hassle and this thread is meant for easy flashing and I was already posting the work around for the Philz bootloop issue which killed the purpose of easy flashing...)
Remember to make a nandroid/backup using CWM, if you forgot to make one, PM me to help you sideload a Rom using ADB. (will save you the hassle of going through stock and go directly to any custom rom of your preference)
Hello dear people with an E980:
I'm here to share a backup I made for my personal use to avoid the hassle of having to return to stock to flash the VUPMP stable rom and deleting the recovery folder inside the Rom, pretty much in other words it's just an "easy-to-flash" backup.
Rom comes from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/opt...om-20140920-vupmp-gpro-sg3-stable-lg-t2902595
Here is the backup!, it is flashable so don't extract it, it includes a boot.img (kernel) so you can restore from any rom, no need to come from stock:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95747613655048316
MD5: f50a74eb5ceb7600d0ea609192d5c258
On this particular backup, I applied the following fixes for E980:
-Volume restore fix
-Video recording fix
-Removed a system apk which seemed to be a calendar in viet (for the sake of clean and stock look).
It is highly recommended to wipe before flashing:
-Data (without wiping data/media, if you don’t know how to do this just ask in the Q&A section or PM me!!)
-Cache & Dalvik cache
-System
-Please, don't report bugs if doing a "dirty" flash.
Special thanks to:
@datphu2811 for developing such a cool ROM
@Chairizkuro for the video recording fix
anyone who contributed with this files linked above!
Remember:
Flash at your own risk!

I did, I followed the instructions but got stuck in a boot loop and it didn't fix when I applied the aforementioned zip. I just went back to stock the normal way and everything worked out. That's just my experience though, you could have completely different results.

Can you describe your problem? What kind of bootloop did you get?
A) it kept booting to recovery (that's what the zero zip is for)
B) it kept stuck in the lg logo
If B)
Did you performed a full wipe of data (without data media), system and cache? Did the flash took an unexpected amount of time (2 seconds instead of 2 minutes)?
Additionally, why did you totted back? Didn't you made a backup first?, in case you made a backup, did the recovery rendered useless after flashing my backup?
Did you get any lokifying errors?

Can't get LTE To Stick
Everything works great but the one thing bothering me is I can't seem to get Global + LTE to stick after following the steps:
- Input 5457#*988# from dial pad
- Find "Network Mode" set value "Global + LTE"
- Find "CDMA Subsciption" set value "USIM"
When I try to switch from NIV to USIM the phone instantly reboots and reverts the network back to WCDMA. Does anyone know how to fix this?

advisable to use the latest recovery to prevent problems and more compatibility roms.
