Cannot install any OS on Kindle Fire with TWRP? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have an original Kindle Fire, with FireFireFire installed (the one with blue text), and TWRP. However, there is no OS installed so I obviously cannot use the Kindle Fire. I have Android ADB drivers installed, so 'adb devices' shows my device (in recovery mode when I'm running TWRP). Whenever I try to flash either Cyanogenmod or the stock OS, I get the error: "error executing update binary in zip". I think this is because I might not have root permission. When I try to install root permission with KFU, I get stuck on "Waiting for fastboot 4002", even though KFU says my device is already in 4002! Does this mean I'm stuck in fastboot? I don't have a factory cable so that's not an option. If anyone could help point me in the right direction I would be very appreciative. In Device Manager, the Kindle only appears under "Universal Serial Bus devices" as "Amazon Kindle Fire".
Thanks

[Q] Kindle Fire Utility - TWRP

Folks,
I am trying to root my first gen Kindle Fire using the Kindle Fire Utility. One of the Options "5" is to install the latest TWRP 2.3.1.1. I have read about Wipe problems with this. How can I ensure that the KFU will install the older TWRP 2.2.1.1. Is it easily done by just copying the TWRP 2.2.1.1 file to the recovery folder within the KFU folder?
Thanks!
KFU actually tells you which version it`s installing last time I checked it was still downloading the older version. You can check it by dry running the program without the kindle plugged in read what it says in the terminal.

Thanks for the replies folks .. I copied TWRP 2.2.2.1 in the "recovery" folder and the KFU checked for existing TWRP in the recovery folder and it installed it.
Thanks!

Kindle Fire HD 8.9 Boot Loop

Hello i have Kindle Fire Model 3HT7G, i try to install TWRP on OS 8.4.8 seems to work but after reboot system KIndle boot loop. What i can do to recover my Kindle?
Does the logo ever turn blue? If it doesn't do not worry as kindle 8.9" models don't work with fastboot cables. There is a different method form getting it into fastboot. Just tell me if the logo turns blue or not and I can instruct you from there.

Use this tool to restore your KFHD 8.9. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011126 please do read the instructions first, two times and then proceed. You only need your stock USB cord.
Edit: Make sure to jump back to the OP for the tutorial.

I test the software but seems to not work, i don't have original cable. I try to enable kindle fastboot but nothing
This is going to be a pain to type on my phone... plug the device in while off, keep the device manager open when doing this, it should briefly show up as a jem device, when it does right click it and hit update driver, point it to where you will have downloaded and extracted the driver in my signature. Once you install the drivers, shut it off and unplug it, you will need to open a command prompt that's cd'd into a directory like kffa where you can run a fastboot command. Then run
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
it should say waiting for device, once it does plug your kindle in, it should go into fastboot mode and you can restore with kffa.

Thanks works Now if i want to have original Amazon OS with Root, TWRP and Play Store what i can do?
Think there's an old Amazon os flashable zip in the dev section. Might be pre-rooted. You can always root it with binary's root if not and install the playstore with kffa or something. I personally prefer running a custom rom over stock any day. Much better interface on cm based rooms compared to amazon's os. Only downside is lack of prime video.

All I did was rooted and then used fireflash...

Use kffa to install the Google store or kindlefree. Just curious, what were you planning to do by installing twrp and keeping stock amazon os? You just want a method to easily recover from a brick or were you thinking of flashing a ROM at some point?

Hello,
I have the exact same problem as the original poster with my Kindle Fire HD 8.9". I tried downloading the drivers in your description. I connect the kindle and try to update the drivers for Jem-PVT-Prod-04. I direct my computer to install the drivers that I extracted, however it returns an error saying that "the hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file. The file is likely corrupt or the victim of tampering." I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, this is my first time trying to root android. Thanks so much for the help!
You need to disable driver signature enforcement. Look it up on Google, I don't know the procedure offhand because I don't use windows 8.

Hello. I know this thread is old but I just stumbled across it and want to restore my mom's Kindle HD 8.9. I was able to install the drivers for Jem-PVT-Prod-04 when it showed really quick on the device manager. When I try the CMD "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" from the command prompt it takes me to the desktop folder where the Zip file is located and I had already unzipped the KFHD_SRTv2.1- 8.1.4.
I tried running the SR Tool and my Kindle was off. I had selected Enable Fastboot. When it prompted me to turn on I did and it prompted DAEMON. So nothing was going on So I decided to start from the beginning.
When I plug in the Kindle Windows 10 prompts like it recognizes the device but the JEM PVT is no longer popping up in the Device Manager under OTHER Devices like the first time. I checked the Registry to remove any trace of the JEM and it isn't even in there. I tried to remove other devices.
Sorry for the long story. Can I just use the SR Tool to wipe out the Data and Cache once I redo everything from my second PC and install the Kindle OS from Amazon's website to restore the Device from the loop? It is not blue. Is there another link with step by step instructions or a You Tube Video for noob like me? I used to be good at this but my skills have really regressed.
Thank you
Frank

[Q] (PLEASE HELP) Kindle won't pass bootloader

My kindle has an otterX (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671619 ) and i just get the Kindle Fire logo and press to open bootmenu. I cannot boot into revoery for some reason and upon clicking continue boot the kindle fire just shuts off. i can't figure out what i need to do to get it unstuck from this situation or if i can throw it into fastboot. when sitting in the bootmenu the kindle shows up in Device Manager as a Kindle Fire (below when Kindle Fire is clicked) and then Android composite ADB Interface. Would rekindle work? i seriously don't want this kindle to be bricked/broken.

When that has happened to me it was from a incompatible recovery or corrupt recovery.
when you see the bootloader it is in Fastboot mode.
just reflash a recovery like otterx-twrp-2.7.1.0-recovery.img
in command prompt
Code:
fastboot flash recovery otterx-twrp-2.7.1.0-recovery.img
fastboot reboot
still confused...
i am getting an error saying it cannot open the file.

i've gotten TWRP to install. i couldn't get the otterX one i needed to install so i installed one i downloaded else where. i was originally wanting KitKat on here but don't want that fiasco to happen again. unfortunately now i cannot boot normally. just gets to the Kindle Fire Logo and restarts.
Is the bootloader set to amazon or otters partitions?
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
i think it's on amazon. however upon reading some articles of what i was doing the version i have now isn't able to haandle what im doing so i have to update twrp.
You need to pick a direction otterx, or other custom ROM, or stock
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
using the updated version of twrp thats compatible with installing KitKat will that be possible to leave it amazon or would i need to use otterX for CM11 KitKat?
You can install whatever you want, just need to tell me so I can give correct directions.
You need to check Bootloader settings, advanced does it say amazon or or otterx partitions
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
i don't see a way to check that. im using the fff-u-boot v1.5 bootloader i believe (not to sure, pretty new to android and rooting) (with openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.1-blaze (need to update downloaded 2.8.0.2-blaze already) sorry for my being a noob with this. your helping a ton though :highfive: .
1.5 FFF is not otterx just otter
flash openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.2-blaze.img
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.2-blaze.img
fastboot reboot
in TWRP Wipe/factory reset
install cm-11-20140916-SNAPSHOT-M10-otter.zip
and PA MINI MODULAR PACKAGE GApps
in TWRP
im having an issue getting into fastboot mode. i've tried restarting my kindle and running fastboot commands. the command to install the updated twrp is still saying waiting for device.
When you see Bootloader it's in fastboot mode
Could be a drivers issue.
When I flash, I usually start with connecting USB cable, then power off kindle, run commands, reboot kindle
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
The Fastboot mode finally loaded. had to pull the device manager and begin process of pointing out driver and shut off the kindle and as it hit the bootloader point i had to install driver. i believe my issues have been resolved. It booted up KitKat just now. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! :victory: :highfive:

Trouble Rooting First Gen Kindle

I have been trying to use the KFU to root, but at the end of the command prompt, it says Waiting on Device. I have left it like this for 15 minutes to no avail and I can interact fully with the kindle. I'm running 6.3.3 on the kindle and windows 8 on my laptop. I have tried installing the drivers but no matter what I do, the kindle still shows up as Kindle Fire in device manager, although if I click the drop down arrow, it says Android Composite ADB Interface. When I load up KFU, it registers that the device is connected and says ADB Status: Connected, but Boot Status is unknown. I don't know what to try, can anyone help?

Computer won't detect OtterX

Awhile ago I wanted to change the ROM on my 1st gen Kindle, and get OtterX. Following the instructions given here, I made it all the way up to where you must push gapps and CM10, but my Kindle was never detected on my computer. I installed the Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.9 drivers and everything, but no computer I tried using would see the device as online.
I left it for a few months and now coming back to it, I unfortunately tinkered with it too much to figure out what the issue was. I activated the EMMC corruption fix because honestly I figured it couldn't be any worse then where it was now, but it didn't resolve anything. Now I can't boot into TWRP from OtterX menu, when I click that it sends me to fastboot mode. I'd push recovery and a ROM if my computer would be able to detect it but it unfortunately doesn't. I did some research and figured out how to disable driver signatures on my Windows 10 and managed to run install_drivers.bat and have that working, but now my computer is detecting my Kindle as Android ADB Interface with the yellow triangle under it. It's also listed under Android Phone.
I'd really appreciate any help I can get since being an idiot didn't help me out with this.

Checking that thread I saw that the size of the partitions weren't correct, so I wiped the ones that weren't, pushed the ROM and the gapps to the Kindle, installed them both, and booted up to Cyanogenmod. However I'm presented at this screen, and when I press reboot, it reboots the system and brings me back to this screen.
I've tried doing a factory reset wipe from TWRP but it hasn't changed yet. Thanks again for all this help!
