I just purchased the M9 International version 3 days ago. Since receiving it I can not get the universal remote app to work. I've verified that the IR blaster is not functioning by doing the camera trick. I also have a IR receiver for my PC that lights up anytime it senses an IR signal. It has never lit up.
I've run the RUU for the unlocked/developer version (3.35.617.12) from HTC's website twice now with no success. The first attempt was after I had heavily modified the OS. The second attempt was right after running the RUU.
So my question is are the some versions of the M9 that do not have an IR blaster, am I missing something with the RUU's that would cause the IR blaster not to function, or am I looking at a defective phone that should be sent back?
My bootloader is unlocked and the phone came S-off.

Verify in Antutu if the sensor is detected.
If not detected it could be a fake.
If detected, might be a hardware fault.

Where in Antutu would it reference the IR blaster? I looked in the info section but did not see a field where it would give details on the IR hardware.
Looking at what Antutu reports for all my other pieces of hardware it does not appear I have a fake. I also verified my phone was built in Taiwan Taoyuan B factory using this thread. I also unlocked the bootloader through HTC's dev website. But I know a common saying around here is China is getting better at faking phones. I would just hope there not this good.

Ok, yes it is listed there. So I'm guessing the OS see's the IR blaster. Now it just comes down to if its a hardware issue or software issue.

As u have already gone back to stock with RUU, it seems like a hardware fault.
Sorry!
You could try reflashing the firmware, but only after u get to know well the procedure.
A bad flash can brick your phone.

Ill look into the process of reflashing the firmware. I will need to relock the bootloader before I can send the phone back anyways and that will be a process.
I'm guessing it can be done but, does anyone know how to interact with the IR Blaster in ADB or terminal emulator? I'm thinking if I can at least force the IR blaster to do something that would tell me for sure if its working.

So after reading this thread on how to flash firmware. My understanding is flashing the RUU's from HTC's website flashes the firmware. Am I correct in thinking this?
Have you tried the peel remote app?

Yes since that's the remote app that comes preinstalled. I have also tried 2-3 other remote apps with no success.

OK. I will request a replacement unless anyone else has some suggestions.
Thanks for the help.
There's not a lot you CAN do.. It either works or doesnt. Must be faulty. Maybe a faulty diode?.
Shame really.

Hey man,
I had the same problem as you and tried couple of things to get the infrared work ,and finally I found the problem.
I don't know if you are in the same case but I bought a refurbished phone in aliexpress and they change some pieces with non genuine one. So I verified if the plastic cover at the top was TRANSPARENT enough to let the infrared light pass trough. The result was negative, so I decided to remove it (its very easy)
And did the cam test and SURPRISE it worked like a charm.
So the top rail plastic didn't let the light pass. I cut a little hole in the plastic where there is the infrared led.
I looked on internet for a genuine part but it cost 9$ with shipping to EU so if anyone know a place which provided this piece with a better price I will surely thank him !

I bought the phone on ebay and it has the same problem. The top black rail isn' t trasparent and it doesn' t allow the infrared light to pass, also there is more glue on the led. I removed it and now the ir blaster works!
try peel remote from play store. mine worked
I dicovered why my IR blaster is not working....the top cap is to thick to let the light go out, If I remove it I can change channels without any troubles, I even see the light using a camera.
Hey everybody.
I know it has been a long time since the post was created but just right now I found the solution for the IR not to work on HTC One M9.
The problem is that little black plastic cover piece that serves for beauty and covering.
I just removed it and the IR Remote worked perfectly.
At first I thought that the glue was covering it making it not work.
I cleaned the glue and placed the cover back and the IR stopped working, so the problem really is that plastic cover.
Now that leads us to another question, what to do with the cover?
Hope that helps!

It would seem that your ir diode would be getting weak and can no longer shine past the dark plastic, or you have too much ambient light.
My IR diode is working fine so yours must be faulty.
Beamed in by telepathy.
I think my plastic is not "original" and thus thicker and darker than it should be.
I just made a very small cut with a hot needle in it and now is working fine.
I will research for this piece of plastic to see if there is anyone talking about it

I have an idea, that I'm willing to test. This is my first post in the Dev Section, so go easy on me if I have made any mistakes.
I'm sure many of you are aware of the issues with the One X, Flickering, Glitchy UI etc. So, I came up with a idea -
I have 2 HTC One X in my possession, one works flawlessly but has a Yellow screen (Because it is possibly made by Sharp), the other which is my first one, has flickering and every problem you can imagine.
So, If I was to get the ROM from my working Yellow screen One X, onto my first One X, is it possible that this would stop all the problems AND work on the clearer screen (possibly made by Acer)?
I'm willing to test it. But my time is running out. Both phones are due back within 3 weeks now as I've filed for a refund from Amazon. And before I do this, will it stop me from getting a refund? Regardless, the phones have issues (I guess the yellow screen is not a bug, but it is not the phone I purchased - if you get me).
So, what do I do? How do I dump my ROM, and how do I get it on my first One X?
All I know is to unlock them both on htcdev.com, but rooting and getting Clockwork/xRecovery (whatever it's name is now), I haven't got a clue. I've done it with all my other devices (around 6 or 7), but this is a different kettle of fish.
Thanks!
DM
Are you assuming the screens are made by Sharp or Acer as they are the suppliers HTC chose for the Sensation?

Yeah, it's just an assumption. It's very probable.
I don't know if it's possible to return an unlocked phone, because unlocking the phone voids some parts of the warranty. But i believe that there's a way to return the phone to it's locked state by re-locking and flashing the stock RUU, but i haven't tried it, and i don't know if it's possible to do with the one X.
You really think the phones have different ROMs? Because that's what you are suggesting, and in that case there would be different RRU's also. And also a clean RRU install would fix the flicker in that case, which I'm sure it doesn't.. And also, I think the screens are made by Samsung, but I'm not sure. The few I've tested have had the same panel ID even though one is warmer (yellower) than the other.
And lastly, you won't be able to return it if you've unlocked it though htcdev.com.. Maybe, if your lucky they don't check, you could re-lock it and hope for the best. But I guess Amazon know's what to look for. You better leave the dev'ing to the devs.

Your right. Not unless the FW is stored on a server and somehow is locked to you when you download the FW for reinstall. I'll give this a shot. I'm back on Ubuntu now, so I'm not 100% sure how to update my HTC using it... I'll look.

Check the software version number, if it's the same then there is no benefit to "copying" the rom from one to the other.

The answer is most probably faulty hardware, I've tried loads of roms not one fixes the flicker, mine gets replaced Monday.

It's surely not software. Maybe if the nand is broken and your screen drivers just happens to be at the bad blocks every time (and don't get remapped) No, don't waste your time and possibly money on this, it's most likely faulty hardware anyway. You could "adb pull /proc/last_dmsg last_dmsg" then open that file in a text editor and check if the both phones hade the same panel ID. If not, then it could be driver-related. Or maybe it's as simple as a loose connection.
I am pretty sure the flicker is software and not hardware. I get it, it normally starts ( but is not limited to ) when on the home screen. If you are experiencing flicker navigate somewhere with the option to bring up a menu. When I bring up a menu over the flickering screen the menu is solid and does not flicker while the activity underneath is still distorted.
I have tried killing sense to let it restart and that normally gets rid of the flicker.
(I call it flicker but it is really more like the image on the screen warps from the bottom but stays still at the top in a fluctuating way.)

my previous htc hd2 was stopped digitizer working too. How unlucky i am.
I guess I neet to install CWM and using on screen button
which rom do you reccomend? ı used to install couple roms to hd2 but i havent tried with one x
thank you all
Factory reset will only reset it to the rom you have flashed. Have you tried flashing the correct ruu for your phone? When you say it's new, how new? New enough to return to where you got it for replacement?

i took the phone to my local market n came to know that the their isnt any separate capacitive buttons cable, it is embedded within the lcd, so if i have to order then whole complete lcd + digizer + module, and i checked the online purchase price is almost the same price the local market ppl are offering that is near 60 dollars.
Just that i am not sure why does the buttons stopped working and if somehow why they started working n now have again stopped ;(

not sure what you mean.. look at this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Touch-S...865?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d02ec98e9

Code:

it is hard to separate the digitizer from the lcd but it's doable and nothing like the iphone digi+lcd that uses an epoxy adhesive. so if you are carefull (or have someone skilled doing it for you) you wont break the lcd and you'll save quite some money. it's true though that the new digitizer wont stick to the lcd as well as a "genuine combo digi+lcd" and you will notice dust building in between the two. my advice, if you know someone that is skilled enough, try get the digitizer off without breaking the lcd and if you manage that then buy the new digitizer. otherwise since you said that changing the whole digi+lcd is not an option you can always try sell your one x as damaged or use it as an expensive paperweight.
best of luck mate, i hope you solve it one way or another.

I received my Xperia ZL yesterday [03/22/2013] and whiles examining the device I noticed that the back cover piece was loose at the location of the charging port. You can clearly see that it is not flush with the rest of the cover/device. Also, when I push down on it, that section comes back up. I am not sure if the back cover is glued into place, but this part here is not. (see first pic)
Would Sony replace the phone for that defect?
I wasn't planning on getting a cover, but now I don't have a choice since I didn't want this to get worst and for the remaining back cover will start coming apart.

What Defect?
He means the gap between the back and the body at usb port. I think it's okay. He bought on ebay and I think sony wouldn't exchange it
Its perfectly fine. Just use your phone
Well, you should call Sony. They are going to release ZL in the US anyway - US version and yours (assuming yours is an import) have identical footprints with same housing and exterior casing. Sony repair center in the US definitely knows how to replace the cover. If things don't work out here, just contact the seller and ask for an exchange - or at least get the name of the country the phone is from. In the worst case, you can ship to Sony center in that country. Or you can wait for some ZL teardown video to pop up in near future and fix it yourself later
I would not bother with the minor defect as long as the phone is fully functional, but I understand most of the folks won't like this kind of imperfection.Very nice phone, by the way. I can't wait for the freaking US version - it's been a while
Sony is anal with warranty and these phone possibly don't have any warranty in the US unless it was made for the US market.
They will probably say there is a flat fee of $180 to get things fixed.
This is the only problem with buying stuff from eBay. Try to work it out with seller as that is your best choice.
just perfect

As you can see from the video at this link .... http://sdrv.ms/13oVAHl
It has to do with the launching of apps either from the home screen or from the app drawer.
Really not sure what is causing this. I have reset three times, but the problem still persist.

Hi guys.
I've got an issue with my One M8 - the Duo Camera doesn't work. When I open the Camera app, sometimes the 'Duo camera is blocked, please make sure all lenses are uncovered' pop-up appears, or it doesn't. The thing is, my hands are nowhere near the camera lenses when I take photos.
Either way, I'm not able to apply Duo effects to photos I take - the toast messages either say 'Unavailable for hand-cover' or 'Duo effects unavailable for this photo - Please see Tips and Help for more information'.
Thanks in advance.
I'm currently using an entirely stock phone (not rooted, locked, S-ON), Hboot 3.19, CID HTC__044, firmware version 3.32.707.9, Android Kit Kat version 4.4.4.
This happened to me friend. doing a factory reset, worked for me, but its no guarantees.. this may sound silly but get some glass cleaner, spray it onto a lint-free cloth and gently wipe both lenses... Dont spray the cleaner directly onto the lenses themselves. If your using a case on your phone, is any part of it whatsoever near the lense.
Im afraid to say,it may be faulty friend and may need to return it . If its within its warranty and you havent modded it in any way
Hope that helps, but someone else may know better

I can't seem to get the duo camera feature working. Whenever I open the default camera app it tells me my duo camera is blocked, also if my hands are nowhere near it. The lens itself doesn't show any defects or obstructions. After a few seconds the message disappears again, but I don't seem to be using the duo camera since none of the related options (U-focus etc.) are available when I open the edit menu on the photos I've taken.:crying:
PLZ HELP
I'm currently using an entirely stock phone (not rooted, locked, S-OFF), Hboot 3.19, CID HTC__11111, firmware version 3.31.512.2 , Android Kit Kat version 4.4.4
Hello!
I have a Z1 compact with:
model number: D5503
with android 4.4.4 14.4.A.0.157
Usb port aint working, I have no idea why, I bought the phone from a girl and she didnt know what caused it. I have a feeling that she updated from 4.4.3 and something stopped working. When I try to use the diagnostics app that comes with the phone, it crashes and closes itself. The phone also tells me that there is an update available, 14.5.A.0.270, but it wont let me update it, it says "computer required"... So you see, if I cant use the usb port, how am I supposed to update it with a computer
I managed to root it using KingRoot (damned thing installed me an app that made my vibrator go crazy.. it stopped after I uninstalled it)
Ive been trying to find out ways to install recovery and flash the update, but I cant seem to find a way. I found about flashify and tried to instal NUTs dual recovery but flashify just crashes when I choose "select zip" or even when I try "select image" at the install recovery menu. Any ideas on how to proceed?
Thanks!!
If it still has warranty, you should return it. Without a working USB, you're pretty much screwed, sorry to say...
Can't you install ROM Manager from the Play Store, then install CWM or TWRP recovery, transfer a known working ROM wirelessly to the SD card and flash that?

Ok, didn't check that. Are you sure there is a problem with the USB port on the device? Maybe try changing the USB cable, some are low quality and don't make good contact. Maybe something went wrong during the update and it is just a software problem that can be fixed with a factory reset. If there is no warranty left, you could open up the phone and check for physical damage.
And if all that doesn't work, see reply #1.

I think it is.. I tried to charge it with an official sony cable and nothing happened, although I dunno if the cable is totally compatible because it came with my live with walkman phone. Maybe the jack is messed up. If everything fails I might buy a new one and change it, and see what happens. I did a factory reset but still nothing happened. I found out that theres another flash tool app called Rashr, I dunno if I could update to lollipop with it. For now I should find an .img file of a recovery that works for my device, any ideas?
thanks btw!
If the cable can transfer files and charge your Walkman it should work with your phone too.
You could try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620794 but I can't guarantee it will work. Maybe it is better to stick with what you have and not take the risk.

Nope, doomlords recovery wont work with my version but hey! I guess you're right! At least the phone is fully functional, except for the usb thingy. I'll just seize the day haha, thanks!!
How're you going to charge it?
If it still charges you can use it how it is, if not you're screwed.
You can't use the ROM manager stuff on the Sony phones because they don't use a normal recovery like the rest of the Androids. It has it's advantages as it's hard to really brick it but if the USB socket doesn't work you've got nothing to work with.
So find out if it's in warranty, if it is get it fixed. If it isn't you might have to fix it yourself or pay to get it fixed.
Although if it charges you could just use it how it is until you can pick up another phone, probably the Z3 compact if you like this size.
Fortunately the magnetic charging port does work it takes its time to charge tho :/
Maybe I shouldn't tempt you but have you tried this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/son.../stock-d550314-5-0-270customized-ce1-t3115487 with that Rashr app? It includes a recovery and is prerooted.
Ahh of course!
As you can tell I haven't had a Sony phone long, although I use the magnetic dock all the time!
It might be worth asking a few shops for a quote to fix it. I spoke to a guy who fixed phones for a living yesterday, he wouldn't give me many tips but he did let me know that Sony phones were all heat based to pull apart. Said they weren't easy, which is what I'd gathered.
I guess he doesn't want to answer questions as he'd rather do it for me and have me pay him!
Do a factory reset and teardown and clean the phone.

FYI, i recently opened mine with the help of a small travelling hair dryer and some prying tools. It was a 10 minute job. There are lots of videos on YouTube too. You just need some new adhesives or good double-sided sticky tape to put it back together. You will probably lose the waterproof sealing though.

Yup! They used glue because of the waterproof feature. Ive been thinking about that as well, going to a service shop. I do know how to modify circuits but at least if they mess up, theyll have to answer for it .

Hair dryers ftw! I do need to open it up, to change the housing because its all girly pink.. Although after a quick look I cant tell the phone seals have already been broken, so someone tried to open it and didnt close it properly. Ive been looking for spare parts online and Ive found some pretty decent ones. Battery cover, frame and stickers. They come from china so I wouldnt risk figuring out if the phone is still waterproof after the "refurbishing".
If you're gonna replace the battery cover, might as well go for the japanese glass version (z1f).
