Vibration motor - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So a couple of weeks ago my motor went out, completely dead. Then a couple of days ago it would come back for like 6 secs then it would go away. Is there a trick that I can do for it to make it stick? I don't really want another device because I have already paid over 100 in the past to s-off my previous phone lol. I know I could probably have it sent in but I can't be without a phone due to my job. Thanks guys

Have you used the HTC test mode to toggle and test the individual parts of the device ?
You mentioned s-off...which obviously means you have flashed software and/or firmware to the device..
That being said....a test session on the device may reveal a working motor....but your current software or OS condition may be causing a failure...
Another area you should check is powersave mode...when enabled will shut down your vibration mode...
Yet another area to check...
If rooted and running any application that affects battery or usage of the battery can trigger a false power save...
Wakelocks can also cause running issues..
A lot to ponder there...but a few areas need to be looked at before we decide that your device is defective...especially if it's modified at all...g
---------- Post added at 09:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:49 PM ----------
Edit:
Could you tell us the current software you are running ??
Device model ?
Recovery ?
Basically a general overview of the device will help immensely...g

I'm running viper 4.2.1
Htc m9
Twrp - latest Verizon
I don't have any apps that affect the kernel or anything. I didn't think about wake locks. Thanks for the help!
Oh I have run the test, it won't vibrate. If I shake the device and run the test it will vibrate for a few seconds. Ugh.. I'm trying to get over it lol

Dang...
Looks like your homework is done on it..
Could be a genuine failure...
One last option...if you like a lot of work....lol
Flash a bone stock RUU...and you'll know for sure...
I did that last week when my prox sensor freaked out...
It was a dirty flash...and the reflash fixed it..
This M9 is the most finicky device I've ever used...
Your call of course...g

It's just the motor. I've read about loads of faulty ones especially on launch devices.
Mine works but barely. You can't ever feel it in your pocket or hear it if it vibrates on a table or anything.

For a flagship device....that motor should be a forever working deal...
HTC went cheap on several parts in this device it would seem...g

I just sent mine in for this. Covered by warranty they said. Supposedly they aren't going to use my uh oh replacement

screen glitches and other concerns topic(pics +movie added)

I have some screen glitches and it is pretty annoying...
I notice it especially when in the browser and when the menu of the browser comes on the screen... Is this a hardware or a software problem?
Saw it on the home screen too sometimes when i want to scroll the homescreens the status bar glitches while scrolling...
Anyone noticed this?
Also when entering system task manager I always only have like 200mb free space? When i choose end all, i have like 300. So there is almost always 3/4 in use? Is this normal?
Other question:
I was trying teeter earlier, and It isn't as smooth as on other devices. The ball doesn't run smooth on the screen, it stutters especially when you tilt the phone and the ball should go fast... Anyone notice this too?
Other questions and concerns can be placed here.
I will also try to make a movie of the screen glitches...
Thanks for the answers!
Edit: So someone else posted pictures of the problem in dropdown menu in the browser, it is exactly the same as mine.
Glitch pics
And a video also from the same user:
Glitch movie
And from another user who captured the status bar glitch(that i also have):
Status bar glitch
please describe your glitches and bad teeter is it only on low battery only?

No my battery is 55% now, I played it again, and when also when trying to move the ball slowly, sometimes the balls makes a little 'jump' instead of rolling smooth...
And the glitches is, that the there are horizontal lines of the things on the screen, i don't know what could cause it?? Is it hard or software... Will try to make a little clip of it tommorow when it happens again.

I only have my phone for a day but I definitely encountered those screen glitches, i think 3 times since. It usually happened on top of the screen. I think it's only software bug(let's hope).
I did test one in three store and found it was lagging. Scrolling through different screens s sluggish very surprising and poor. The phone also froze hopefully it was software issue!!!
Anybody noticed a small blue patch on the screen? A few cases are reported in Singapore.
It can only be seen if the screen has a black background. Try using the camera app and cover the lens with your hands.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
most reviewers except two reported no glitches, faulty units?
Same problems as the OP here.
All software bugs I would say, there are plenty of small software bugs/glitches I have found so far.
I think they'll release an update soon, well.. they should.
Remember many reviews were based on later firmware than is (currently) publicly available. If reviewers saw bugs in earlier firmware, then saw it fixed in final firmware, it would be unlikely that they'd mention the bugs. They wouldn't have been expecting units to reach retail before the updates (and their reviews) were available...

i think a lot of apps need to update for ICS and tegra 3. i don't even know what teeter is. but yeah maybe HTC has some updating to do, too.
i posted this in the other thread but got no response
reviewers who faced this related it to applied pressure on screen, when the affected area is pushed the screen might move a bit or flex and the glitch appear, can you test?
owners with the glitches should immediately contact HTC the more you complain the sooner you get a solution
we have one feedback so far

in my case it's not from pressure
it appears random sometimes
before I updated it I had the issue in music app where the red album art is displayed.. it always used to glitch in the middle of it
can anyone try that?
maybe it's a software bug after all

Hi all... I have the same glitch issue on my HTC One X. Often, in the botton of the screen, there's a wobbles but it isnt joint with the pressure of the screen.
For example, the issue doesnt appaer in the lock screen with One X on.
So... software issue? I hope...

Dear Stefano Ferri,
Thank you for contacting HTC.

Please try to: enter the safe mode on your phone and check if you still have the same issue . You can enter safe mode by:
Safe mode:
Press power key to switch off the device
1. Press " power key " for power on device
2. Wait until "HTC logo" appears on screen
3. Press and hold " Volume down key " until entering OS
4. " Safe Mode " text will appears on the lower left of screen Safe mode will disable all 3rd party apps and only preinstalled apps will work, this is done because some of 3rd party apps can interfere with your phone functionality.
5. If the device is working properly in "safe mode" please try to remove the 3 party applications, or remove the latest 3rd parties that you installed..
If this doesn't resolve your issue then you need to factory data reset your phone. You can do that by:

Sounds correct though, if your still having screen issues after a factory reset, even after a few days - I'd get a replacement, could be faulty.

Unresponsive and Crazy touchscreen

Received my phone yesterday, and when I was browsing it , the screen went crazy, and unresponsive. did a factory reset and the problem still persisted. Opened a return request at amazon so they can send me a new one. Don't know if anyone had the same issue or it was just me. Here is a video
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12983778/VID_20150527_213832648.mp4
Please check if TalkBack is enabled. If this setting is enabled, the touch screen may behave differently and appear to be defective. Instead of one tap to open an item, you will need to tap once until it highlights with a green box around the selection, then double tap to open. Also when swiping it may require using two fingers instead of one. You may also be hearing voice prompts to every action made.
To disable go to Apps/Settings/Accessibility/Talkback - turn off.

Same problem
Hi,
I had the same issue! I getback the phone in guarantee to Taiwán. The seller says that the phone was repairde, the display was changed.... finally 2 weeks ago I reicived the Zenphone 2 (1.5moths since the deal). Now today the phone have the same issue, I try to clean the dipslay phone and suddenly the touch screen have the same issue, crazy and unresponsive screen!! I very frustaded about the ASUS Brand! tell me what's happened with your phone?
thanks
Xytrax
Try to delete user data, then factory reset and then wipe cache. If after this you're still in trouble simply use warranty:hardware problem, asus fault.
You must use 2 fingers when you type to get through the setup. I know its a pain but when you are able to get in, turn "TalkBack" off.
I bought a zenfone 2 64gb on amazon and I had the same random issues: unresponsive touch screen, unsensitive, ghost touches.
I guessed that it could be the screen protector but it was still happening after remove it.
So, I asked to amazon a replacement.
After a perfect week, I am starting to have the issues, again!
I sold my oneples one to avoid touch screen issues. I am very upset!
I'm having the same issue as you guys. I also noticed that cleaning the screen with a rag (especially the one for glasses) makes the touch screen go crazy. At first i tried to downgrade the firmware, unluckily i had the issue again. Then i upgraded the firmware from the phone and now it's all going apparently well. I'll update for any news.

To anyone who have this issue: Try to test touch screen by SMMI's test option. Open calculator, type ",12345+" (with the comma), then "=" (equals). SMMI menu will show up. Now "single test", then "touch test".
In my case this process gives a straight line of unwanted touch inputs in the upper region of the screen ( sometimes multiple dots in a row forming a complete straight line). Do you guys have the same result?

It's a software related problem.. Because we're a lot of ppl suffering this problem. But, don't know why, ASUS is ignoring us.
I have sent my phone for repair. They say that they will replace the whole display.
Hi guys. I have almost identical issue and this seems like a hardware fault. I sold the Zenfone 2 to a friend and after 2 months she complains about the unresponsive touchscreen only at the top of the display..... I have the phone with me now, trying to fix it.. Did a factory reset, firmware upgrade, no results. Definitely a hardware issue and it is seems that lots of people are affected. So dissapointed by Asus......
If it's a hardware issue why is it so many people experiencing this now together all in the same time? Not earlier not later? My guess will be software problem. But I'm not sure
Any of you guys have a microsd card installed?

Hi there ,
As being another android user , i would suggest you to install an application such as Clean Master , and see what is consuming your system resources , and most probably another application is causing that lag on the phone .
Sometimes and app is keeps restarting again and again which may cause that issue .
Hope that helps

Hello all
I also have this problem: HTC Desire on Three UK. One minute works fine, next it's practically unusable, everything has a slow response, typing takes 3-4 seconds for each letter to show up.
I've tried rooting, reflashing various roms, factory reset, etc. the works. The only thing I couldn't reset was the firmware. Whenever I tried to do this I got incorrect CID / custom ID fail. I've tried many different methods of making a gold card but none seem to work. I haven't tried with a Kingston 2GB uSD yet so that's the last chance saloon I think...
Just to save anyone the hassle of spending days trying various things, if you have HTC Desire Eye on Three UK, don't bother rooting the phone or reflashing to try and fix this unless you can find a way to get past the CID check. I've wasted days trying to fix this!
If anyone else has any ideas or if someone has resolved this issue I would very much appreciated hearing from you. Only had the phone 9 months and really don't want to have to buy another halfway through a contract! There must be a way to fix this...
EDIT: It is also slow and laggy / delayed response in TWRP recovery, so unlikely due to any unusual app behaviour.
Cheers,
Aaron

Hello,
same for me. HTC Desire Eye, bougth less than 10 months ago, stardard usage. Yesterday in the evening, it started same behavior (3-4 seconds for each single letter on the keyboard, all extremely slow like all memory exausted).
Hard reset useless, the first HTC logo at the bootstrap takes 10 seconds to completely display logo and android signature.
Only change is throwing away the phone and buyng a new one?

hi, i have the same issue since december 15th, does anybody found any solution? could it be a hardware issue? my phone ran pretty good until now, i have 10 months with my Desire Eye
i have 4.4.4, tried 4 hard resets, formatted SD, no SD, without Sim, no luck!
Ok i think its a gpu problem... My desire eye is also lagging so much.. When i looked at cpu z (its an app) my gpu load is 0. Its not usually supposed to be that way, right?
Here's the issue
Mine started doing this a few days ago. Tried doing everything I could to fix it. I didn't try to root it, flash a custom ROM, or Factory Data reset it (AT&T did it anyways made me lose a lot of files). The issue I assumed seemed to be the GPU. The load it at 0 making CPU 1, 2, and 3 work harder not noticeably, but enough to where the GPU was basically a paperweight inside of the phone. The best thing to do if it is still under manufacturers warranty is send it in. My issue is AT&T are sending me a replacement and I'm hoping it is refurbished with no noticeable damage physically. Because if it refurbished they will fix the errors with the phone. If it is new they should have produced something differently by then so it doesn't have the same issue. HTC has always been my favorite brand apart from LG and the Nexus line. Other than that there is no other viable solution to this issue.
P.S. I hope this helped a lot of people out.
I have the same problem, my htc Is so lagging and I flash it root too. Anyone has the solution?
I have the same problem disarmament tel. and moving one of the flex of the screen the phone worked OK but returned to be slow and can not run at the speed it should.
I think it is hardware problem
sorry for my English

same thing happened to me i am on marshmallow

Same problem here, did you guys have any work done to your phone before this happens? Factory reset did nothing, installed a system monitoring app too check CPU and memory usage-both normal. Audio is fine but video is super laggy just like the whole phone. Gonna disassemble it and check cables and connectors for the LCD but I suspect it is not possible to fix this problem, maybe a new LCD would work but I doubt it.
Same problem. i flashed every room but still laggy
If you`re rooted then download an app called Swapper from play store and set Swappiness to 0 and Boom your phone will be back to normal!

That's not software issue that's hardware issue... when i bend my mobile in a certain way it works fine... the front cam also...
i'll try to disassemble my phone today and if it works i'll upload video of how to fix it... insha2 allah

d850 reboot constantly

I have my d850 for a long time. in the past it did this thing where it would reboot constantly until I plugged it in. A new battery solved that issue. Now, 8 months later, it happens again, only difference is that plugging it in doesnt help. Ive tried two new batteries this time, first one didnt work and i figured it was faulty so i returned it and got another, which still doesnt fix the issue. I turned on the phone without my sim and sd card which made no difference either.
I just unrooted my phone and reset to stock, which still doesnt fix the issue either. should i bother with a third new battery to test this? this phone works so smoothly, still fast, still a GREAT phone...I just cant pin point the issue thats causing the reboots as ive tried all i can think of. Id hate to have to toss it. any other suggestions?
thanks in advance!

wow thank you. i have seen a few other threads on how to disassemble the phone for screen flicker, overheating, etc but I havent came across this one. I tried applying thermal paste ( an idea i found in the thread you linked me to), it seems to restart less (without the sim card in, but wifi and location/google maps works fine). since its restarting a lot less, im thinking of opening again and actually purchasing and applying the thermal pad.
Does anyone else have suggestions? and again, thank you!

I use Non-Stock ROM for my device ever since 2 years ago (not a fan of Stock ROMs), and I have no issues aside from early throttling (can be solved with thermal pad). Maybe the issue only persist because you use Stock ROMs. Try changing into Non-Stock ROMs like AOSP or LOS with a good kernel.

Edit: If you don't want to, I also remembered that "paper" trick, don't know what thread is it, but it fixed the bootloop on some users. Maybe it's on reddit

thats the thing, ive always been rooted. always. but for testing I did unroot and revert back to stock and the problem still sticks. after realizing that I rooted again and went back to marshmallow (instead of nougat, and ive tried more than a few roms using marshmallow and a few different ones with nougat). So ive done with non stock roms for a long time, and i do prefer it.
So ive done the thermal grease without the thermal pad and it worked for a day(literally), and stopped working and constant rebooting all over again. I got a new sim card today, no luck. so i may try this thermal pad. but since just the theermal grease seems to not have fixed the issue, im not so sure the thermal pad will work either, but will give it a try.
another thought though, when flashing roms or kernels, it goes through the process like normal! but when actually booting up or when operating (like texting or surfing the web, or just sitting on the counter/in pocket), it just restarts constantly or bootloops(just shoes the LG screen and turns off, and then LG screen again, and so on)! i cant pin point the issue. im gonna look into the paper trick and possible look into purchasing a thermal pad. can anyone provide links in the one they used? i saw the link in another thread just wasnt sure how long that would take to ship to me. maybe i can see what other used?

Unknown wakelock keeps pixel awake 100% of the time

Hello guys,
I have encountered this 9-0022 kernel wakelock ever since I purchased this Pixel XL, and it keeps my device awake all the time.
It persists no matter how many times I factory reset or flashed a different factory image.
Google shows no answer of what it is and how to block it.
Has anyone faced this problem?
Android version: 8.1.0 April, Stock
Purchase Ex Kernel manager and turn that wakeloke off threw kernel using that app

You flash stock firmware, roms etc and reset, and problem persists? Have you considered that there's no feasible way to remedy this? As in, your phone has defective hardware?
Otherwise, it would have to be a phone hacked by CIA with custom hardware that is impervious to resets and firmware flashes.
Think about it...
Contact google and there pretty easy going and will go out of there way replace phone.Ive went threw 5 pixel and every time they have jump threw hoops to make me happy.Phone returned 3-5 days every time.
Maybe it's malware!?

That could probably right.
At first, my device kept showing a persistent notification "USB Supplying Power to attached device",
And I could not charge my device unless I reboot (then it will appear again later).
I googled & figured some people had the same problem and got it solved by cleaning the charging port
on the phone so I did the same.
It stills show up time after time, but now I can choose to "charge this device" from the popup & charge fine.
But the kernel wakelock, which I believe belongs to usb otg or something like that, still keeps my device awake 100% of the time, and drain the battery.

Appreciate your help.
Unfortunately, I live in a country where Google isn't available, and purchased this device from private vendor,
so there's no way I can RMA this now.

Maybe not.
It happens no matter what rom, kernel I'm on.
Since I had the persistent "USB Supplying Power to attached device" time after time,
it's likely that wakelock thinks I'm plugging something into the usb port all the time,
and keeps my devices awake.
I've cleaned the port with tooth pick, some alcohol & air duster but the wakelock hasn't gone away.
Caused by USB I've seen before in BBS thread, I think it's due to a poor USB port on the device contact Google to see your options
I agree @liam_davenport. I did a little digging through some xda threads and people claimed they had that wakelock if they plugged their phone in wrong, do to the USB port being sloppy. There is also something in our device tree called "tcpm logging" that is related to that number, doing a little research now to see what it is/does.
let me talk to my cousin,he works at google.Let me throw problem at him

I've only heard of this problem with people running Android P preview2. It seems using the finger unlock on back of phone, some people tap it when the screen begings to dim and taping fingerprint brightens screen. But what I was thinking, that doing that even without preview2 might cause similar effect.
So you could try disabling that feature might help. It seems that their connected somehow.
