FireTV had original software and was rooted.
I used a web site on How to update a Rooted Amazon FireTV
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-upda...tv-to-the-latest-version-without-losing-root/
Unlocked bootloader
Installed ClockworkMod
Installed Busybox
Downloaded Pre Rooted Stock Software
Install went ok when it rebooted I have the FireTV Logo and it hangs
I can get to Recovery Mode using keyboard
I have Wiped Data/factory reset and I have Wiped Cache partition
Not sure what to do next
Not sure if i should try the install from zip again
Have you installed bootmenu as well?
No I didn't. If it was in the how to then I missed it
Which firmware file did you install?
If you see on all the newer firmwares on http://www.aftvnews.com/roms:
Boot Menu MUST be installed BEFORE installing this ROM or you will brick your Fire TV. Boot Menu and ClockworkMod are NOT the same thing.
You MUST first have installed Pre-Rooted ROM version 51.1.4.0 at some point before installing this version. You don’t have to downgrade to 51.1.4.0 if you are running a newer pre-rooted ROM. You just can’t skip from 51.1.3.0 or older straight to this version.

Yup your right. I installed a newer version that needed the bootloader so now im stuck. I tried the recovery with Fastboot Mode and the A to A usb cable but my computer didnt recognize the firetv. I can boot to CWM but im not sure what that gets me
Ok since I was able to boot into CMW I used adb push (an older version that didnt need the boot menu) to /sdcard/0/
and used that to install so Im back and working
Thanks
Cool congrats, follow that bootmenu guide before you upgrade again.
All i really wanted was the option in Developer options to turn on enable unknown install of apps. I have that now so unless anyone can suggest a reason to update to a newer version i think ill stay where im at.
need help
I have the same problem but i was trying to root it, is there a way you can send me instuctions on how you fixed the isues

I purchased a Kindle Fire for my wife, I want to root it to allow Google Play to be installed
I dl'd the KFU v0.9.6, got the ADB driver, installed, showing as a android composite device
I run the utility following these instructions
from the liliputing.com
it gets to this point, screen cap attached
and dies, it leaves me at the TWRP screen, I have recovered several times using this site here
rootkindlefire.com hot to /how-to-unrootunbrick-rooted-kindle-fire
I must have read 100 threads today but nothing seems to help
Any suggestions or should I just wait for a utility update?
I'm no expert but I have rooted my phones in the past and installed custom ROMs, I'm no developer by a long shot but I'm not out in the woods clueless either.
Thanks
Hopefully you have the latest FFF installed (blue Kindle Fire logo?). If so, when you see it, hold the power button until you see the boot options appear. Select normal or reset boot mode.

At the moment I am back to stock, kind of skittish as it seems I am not the only person having a similar issue
Well, looking at screenshot, I see that TWRP was installed successfully. As long as have that, you're good. You can use TWRP to install FFF and a new rom which fixes just about everything. When TWRP first installs it will reboot and leave your device in fastboot mode (stuck at boot logo). To fix it, simply change your bootmode. Using the latest FFF (blue Kindle Fire logo) is the easiest way, but it can also be done via command line.
Being "stuck" at the boot logo is a normal process of modifying the KF, it doesn't mean it's bricked. I suggest you take the time to read up on some Kindle Fire basics before you proceed.

I got the same screen last night as well. TWRP is installed as I can reboot into Normal/Recovery/Reset Boot..
I can use the KFU to reset the bootloader as well (normal/fastboot, etc)..
but for some reason, KFU doesn't seem to root my device when selecting option 2. I get the blue KF boot logo, can access TWRP, but then what? Do I need to install some other software?
I am soo confused...
I want to root my device so I can install programs. I would also like to install custom ROMs (which I understand that I do not NEED to be rooted to do this), but to install other programs I do.

Transfer the ROM you want to your sdcard and use TWRP to install it. Be sure to "factory reset" (wipe) before you install the ROM or there will be conflicts. It is usually a good idea to wipe cache and dalvik after the ROM installation. There's no need to root a custom ROM.

Thank you for the reply. I assume to transfer the ROM I want I'd use something like Window Explorer to drag/drop or should I use the command language?
Wiping the cache and dalvik - is that also done through TWRP?
one last thing; it is my understanding that once you install a custom ROM, you have "root" access.. will this access allow me to install the App Store/Android Market and install apps that normally require root, such as Titanium backup?

In TWRP you can use "abd push" or there is "mount" function that it comes with that will allow you to mount your sdcard as an external drive, much like with the stock Amazon software.

Yes, after you install the ROM, you'll be given the option to.

Yes, but the "Market" (Google Play) must be installed in TWRP as a "gapps" package. Just Google gapps for the version of android you're installing (CM10-JB, CM9-ICS, or CM7-GB).
ye i have the same issue "mv: can't rename '/system/bin/check_rooted': No such file or directory". I'm sitting at TWRP recovery screen, so I'm guessing just download rom of choice use the mount function to transfer the rom, full wipe and install. this should solve my getting no further in rooting process problem?

If your only error is "mv: can't rename '/system/bin/check_rooted': then chances are, you're already rooted. It just means there was no check_rooted file to rename, so you're good.
Not that it matters anyway because installing a custom ROM gives you "root" anyway.
So... i have rooted the Kindle many times before, all while using TWRP, But lately, KFU has not been able to remove root checker so the Kindle gets stuck in TWRP. When i try to reboot it still boots up to TWRP. The only way I can get it back to normal is flashing the update.zip rom i keep on the SDcard just in case.
Any reason on why its doing that, and why it just started recently?

KFU is broken because a key piece of software is missing from the version of TWRP it now installs. You can do one of the following...
1) Root it manually...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1638452
2) If you know what you are doing, you can edit the batch file to use this workaround...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29186989&postcount=157
3) Download the updated version of TWRP yourself and amend KFU's files\file.log text file with an updated md5 checksum...
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/79
4) Bug the developer to update KFU to use the recent version of TWRP and hope it downloads correctly
Or you can skip most of that and just install modaco instead of bothering with the rooting process.
Thanks... What do you mean by installing modacco? I thought you needed the root to install the rom....

You're confusing "root" with having access to recovery.
From rooted 6.0, I took the OTA and was stuck. Finally wiped everything and installed 6.0.1 fresh. flashed TWRP and supersu 2.60. But after boot, Supersu says binary needs to be updated - but fails to update.
TWRP works fine. Just can't root 6.0.1 with unlocked bootloader. Can anyone share the supersu that worked for 6.0.1? TIA

That wasn't my experience. I took the 6.0.1 update and it failed. So I ran
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
using the system and boot images from the 6.0 update. And then I waited for the OTA again. It installed ok.
Using TWRP I installed SuperSU 2.60 for a systemless root of the boot image. Everything is fine.
i can't even get pass installing twrp. every time i flash twrp in fastboot mode it works but it wipes my entire device. booting into twrp shows "NO OS INSTALLED' and even the sd card storage is wiped. the only way to get it to boot is to flash back 6.0.1 full stock rom. any help???

WugFresh did not work for me, after booting into TWRP and looking for the SuperSU and BusyBox they don not show up. Below is a post I have over on WugFresh Forum.
I’m having the same problem as everyone else. I’m using 6.0.1 MMB29K. It goes through the motions but when TWRP launches the /sdcard directory is empty. However, when I reboot and look at the files using an app called File Manager, I see them in /storage/emulated/0/!ReadyToFlash/Root_Files/. However, if I use a app called Root Browser I see a directory called sdcard and in there is !ReadyToFlash/Root_Files/ so they are being copied to the tablet but when you go into TWRP to install them they can’t be found. I tried to use the app Root Browser and make a directory called kiledl, this failed, probably because I do not have root access. Kind of a catch 22 here. I was just going to copy the files in sdcard to my directory and then try again. NO go!!! Anyone else have any ideas? I seems like this is some sort of permissions issue with the files but only from TWRP. I sure hope someone comes up with an answer, WugFresh and ideas?

Download latest SuperSU 2.62-3.
Root via Nexus root toolkit.
Then copy SuperSu to nexus and flash, supersu not from NRT but downloaded latest 2.62-3, busybox and last rar.
Sorry for my English.
Found a solution, the version of TWRP that WugFresh NRT is using is not compatible with this version of the N7 seems as though these were made with a different MMC memory. Check you this link and download this modified version of TWRP. You can use the NRT Advance Utilities > fastboot flash > recovery > other and then point to this modified version of TWRP and install it. Then you can proceed with the install of SuperSU and BusyBox. They will show up in the !ReadyToFlash/Root_Files/ folder to install.

noooo. That's not true. I just used NRT yesterday to upgrade to rooted 6.01.
EDIT: I think I misundersstood your post. This is only a problem if you try to install TWRP when upgrading right? If you just want to upgrade to 6.01 and keep stock recovery there is no issue.

Yes it is true, it depends on what kind of eMMC chip is in it. I have a very new device and NRT would not root it. When it booted in TWRP it could not see the !ReadyToFlash/Root_Files/ folder to install the files. There was no files on SDCard at all unless you booted to Android to verify they were in fact there. I had to install the modified Recovery TWRP file first. Saying "noooo. That's not true." is a little harsh, kinda make me a liar, I think NOT. Just because the method worked for you does not mean it worked for me. Not all devices are the same. If you read other post here you will see lots of others are having the same problem.

Correct only when using TWRP. However, I was using WugFresh NRT and it does a temporary install of TWRP then you install the SuperSU and BusyBox files. However, with the wrong version of TWRP you would not see the files in the SDCard folder, it would be empty. However, booting back to Android and using File Explorer the files where there. Using the modified version of TWRP would correct this.
interesting. i was wondering why some persons say it work and when i tried it, it wouldn't show anything in twp. can you point me to the link of the modified/correct version of twrp to use or help me by saying what to search. i don't want to sound lazy bu asking you for the link but i'm not sure as to what to google exactly to find the correct twrp to use. obviously i've been google wrong the pass few days because that hasn't come up for me in any of my past searches

I've got an HTC One M9 (Rogers) that I've rooted and installed CM13 (13.0-20160221-nightly-himaul). I'm reasonably experienced with custom ROMs and such having played with all of this stuff on several Samsung devices (Captivate, Galaxy Nexus, SGS3), but this is my first go on an HTC device and first time running TWRP as opposed to Clockworkmod. I attempted to update my TWRP from 2.8.4 to 3.0.0-2 by booting to recovery. Not sure how and where I went wrong in that process but I can no longer boot to recovery, the phone starts up just fine and is usable. I can still access download mode and the bootloader, device is S-on (and has never been s-off). I have since attempted to reinstall TWRP via ADB commands as per the below post. The flash seems to take, no errors but still I'm unable to access recovery. I'm at somewhat of a loss as to what if anything I can try next.

Sorry to be a bother and ask for any form of hand holding, but any idea where I can source the files for the return to stock? Currently have 2.11.631.2 on there (checked in the bootloader). Either that or a way to go S-OFF, I've been unable to find a guide on how to accomplish this without sunshine, which won't work on Cyanogenmod. If that required flashing even to something more similar to stock (IE Android Revolution) that's not the end of the world. Just kind of at a loss as to how to go about that process from where I am now.

1) Make sure you have an sdcard formatted exfat in your device.
2) Boot into TWRP and back up your boot image to the sdcard. (You are doing this to get TWRP to create the proper directory structure.)
3) Find your back up that you just created and delete the files in the folder, i.e., the boot image and the md5 file.
4) Make sure TWRP has the option to keep system read-only checked (in the mounts menu).
5) Go here and download the three files (boot, recovery, system_image) for 2.11.631.2 and place them in the folder on your sdcard mentioned in point #3 above.
6) Restore the files using TWRP and reboot your device into Android.
7) You'll get an OTA notification. Accept it and update your device. (It'll take a while and reboot multiple times.)
8) Once updated, you'll get a second OTA notification to update you to Marshmallow. Accept it and update your device. (It'll take a while and reboot multiple times.)
9) Once updated, you can go ahead and flash TWRP 3.0+ and do what you want.

Thank you again sir, I'll give that a try this evening when I get back home. The help and the hand holding is very much appreciated. I thought that I knew a fair bit about android phones and custom ROMs from my time with my old Samsung devices, and have had to do a lot of learning when it's come to the One M9. Never had a device with the S-ON feature before and have had a lot of trouble trying to find info on what I need to do. I did find that forum post you linked, but wasn't sure if that applied to my device or not. Again VERY much appreciated.
Yup, 6.0 stock is installed and working, TWRP 3.0.0-2 installed and working as well. This time took a system backup and stored it in a safe place (as I expect much the same trouble when Android N or any other major update happens). Thank you again for all of your assistance in getting my phone fixed and updated.
I bought my 5X in October and came here to root my phone and be able to use the ElementalX and the Advanced Interactive Governor tweaks.
Everything was working fine and my phone really performed outstandingly.
Then I saw the OTA 7.1.1. popping up. I didn't allow it until I installed it by mistake yesterday...
Now I'm stuck with google asking me to lock the bootloader.
I can access the bootloader. I get a lot of options.
I can access the recovery mode and it gets me to RecoveryProject 3.0.2-2 by Teamwin.
I already have the Android platform tools on my desktop and it's working.
From there I have 2 questions :
1. Is there a way to not wipe all the contents on my phone? I didn't get the chance to backup all the data on it.
2. After that how can I get my phone working with the latest android version as I was before, unrooted and running with EX Kernel Manager.
Thanks for your help.
1. try installing the supersu zip from the recovery
2.EX Kernel Manager cannot work without root. so you need to root your device
Thanks a lot for you answer!
1. So by installing SuperSu zip from the recovery I would be able to backup my phone data?
2. I meant rooted sorry. So my phone is already rooted and I'm fine with staying that way.

yes
you can actually backup you device from TWRP recovery.
flash the supersu zip and you will boot normally without any data lose
Insane! thanks a lot.
One more noob question. I got the latest superSu zip.
How can I flash it from the recovery?
How can i transfer it to the phone?
Ok I almost got it.
My only question left is how can I transfer the SuperSu zip file onto my phone since I don't have access to anything else than Bootloader and TWRP

adb sideload from twrp
OK guys thanks. When I use adb sideload in twrp advanced menu it gets stuck on "Starting ADB sideload feature... "
And when I type ADB devices on the command prompt it does not show my device but if I'm just in the menu before sideload it does find my device and says the serial number + recovery.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for helping.
You should be able to transfer files while being in recovery using MTP mode.
How do I use MTP mode? Sorry what does that mean. Can't find an explanation on the internet.
I've looked at all the options in the menu but can't find such a option.
I really feel stupid.
Ok guys I transfered SuperSu to my phone using adb push.
I flashed my phone with SuperSu but when i reboot my phone, it still tells me I need to lock my bootloader.
What shall I do now?
I keep going to the Googl screen with the little locker and then I reach the No Command screen.
The phone won't boot into Android no more. Guys please help I'm desperate. Is my phone dead?
Ok so I guess my phone is now in bootloop.
Still anyone willing to help?
OK I tried many things in despair and now I cannot enter the recovery mode anymore. It just gets stuck on the teamwin screen.
Guess it's time to buy a new phone.
So miracle I could enter the recovery.
Now I don't know where to go. I would like to be able to enter normal android but my phone will keep on showing android screen with little lock and the end on the No command screen. Endlessly.
Ok. THread can be closed. I managed to flash a factory image. Lost all my data but I got a working phone so I guess it's not to bad.
