Any chance to port Linux4Tegra? - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any chance to port Linux4Tegra or other Linux distro w/ graphic acceleration to Pixel C?
I'm considering to buy a Linux-oriented tablet and noticed that NVIDIA Shield Tablet K1 had got Linux4Tegra R23.1 ported already
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shi...unning-ubuntu-natively-shield-tablet-t2985238
but since Pixel C has a more horsepower TX1 SoC and "Chrome OS gene" built in, I suppose it would be potentially a better choice?

This would probably work but the booting of it may be a little difficult since the Pixel uses CoreBoot/DepthCharge. I've been trying to get chroot linux to work but it refuses to mount the raw image for some reason. If we could get MultiROM working on this, along with native Tegra-optimized Linux and Android, that would be bad ass!

some people have gotten gnu/linux working: http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-c/help/installed-arm-linux-distro-arch-linux-t3271651
but my question is whether one of these distros like Debian will be able to take advantage of the Tegra, because I much prefer using Fedora than a special distro just for tegra

This project is great !

Backtrack on Desire?

Hello, I just downloaded backtrack 5 for my PC and when downloading, I noticed there was an option for ARM architecture version. Would it be possible to run this on our devices? I know you can run ubuntu but backtrack would be way cooler, especially if we can use all the cracking tools right off the phone
1st without a hardware keyboard its a pain with such things
2nd imo the drivers arent compatible with the tools in backtrack, espacialy if you consider things like aircrack
imo something like that is just for fun, try a netbook it will be much better
my 2 cent
Thanks, so for now I'm sticking with my netbook installation.
hi All,
BT5 arm image is fr chroot and as such you can't expect much of aircrack stuff anyways however having this on your phone does gives you an omph factor.
I have been able to port this to Xperia X10i check my signature below...
I hope the same image can be used for all Phones.
Ive tested this to work on htc desire as well

Ubuntu 12.04 running natively or dual boot

Now i don't know as much as I would like in the programing world but i do know that ubuntu 12.04 has better arm support an they do have a build for tegra ac100/dynabook but thats as far as my knowledge goes.
Of all the operating systems out there the one i think of being almost as flexible as android is linux an ubuntu itself has always been very friendly to use (use 12.04 on my minecraft server) anyways if anyone can add some info of why it can or can't be done that be helpful to say the least though i have a feeling nvidia may not released source code for our branch of tegra 2 >.>

[Dreaming] Could Nintendo Switch Tegra X1 exploit be ported to work with Pixel C?

I'm sure the title gave this much away already, but should it not have, I really have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm just someone who owns a Pixel C and can dream.
Anyways. In light of the barrage of releases yesterday for the Nintendo Switch, a couple of bootrom exploits were dropped leveraging critical flaws within Tegra X1. In what information is available presently, it is speculated that this very same exploit can be ported, in theory, to all devices using Tegra X1. And I was thinking that since the Pixel C is a device which uses that very same hardware, could the same vulnerabilities exist for it? And if so, (this is where the dreaming really kicks in), could it possibly be leveraged as the missing piece of the puzzle for unofficial ChromeOS installation support?
Just wanted to throw that idea out there. I have no idea what I'm talking about, nor really how to do anything besides follow instructions documented by others who do know what they're doing, but if there are any developers/tinkerers still in the Pixel C community maybe this could be a fun project to look into?

Do you think in principle could work also for Tegra X1?

Linux On Dex

What does everyone think of Linux on Dex? Is it very useful? What kind of stuff do you use it for? I just got my Tab S4 and Linux on Dex is one of the things that picqued my interest in the device.
I would love to see more Linux development for the app. There is nothing I can think of off the top of my head that I would do with Ubuntu that I haven't been able to do sufficiently in Android 8.1. I am a massive fan of GNU/Linux but Ubuntu is my least favorite flavor lol and running it within android doesn't interest me. That is my personal feeling and maybe not helpful to anyone to share... But nonetheless true. I wonder what would happen if you tried to build Arch, and what this may do to reinvigorate Linux's integration of touch screen & tablet hardware. Watching this thread.

Is it okay to post a review of the HP Pavilion eh1070wm laptop

Recently purchased a hp pavilion eh1070wm laptop from Walmart as it was on sale for 599$ and needed a upgrade my 2011 MacBook Pro well technically mid 2010 but was manufactured in early 2011. The hp has as base 8gb of ram but can be upgraded to 32gb of ddr 4 3200mhz and can actually handle a 2tb Samsung evo 970 nvme drive as I thought with that capacity and faster speeds vs original that it would overheat apparently not which I’m glad it can handle it just fine so far. Went from 512gb to 2tb and ram upgrade as mentioned before . Well if I’m allowed since there’s barely any reviews for it out in the wild I will do one if this gets enough votes, and people wanting me to do so. Forgot to mention it has a AMD Ryzen 5700u with boost clock up to 4.2 ghz though base is 1.8. Hopefully this helps someone wondering about this model. Geekbench 5 scores and how it looks are in the attached images. If anyone wants a review of this laptop be free to let me know if I’m in the green to proceed

One more thing this laptop can run Linux but a few caveats. For the Wi-Fi you need a Linux kernel module driver for the rtl card which I’m on my phone, so tomorrow I will tell you guys which card it has. Hopefully the next Linux kernel release adds this card for support if not no real big deal at least for me. Also it states it comes with a intel wireless card if you look up the laptop model on hps site, but if your like me and bought from Walmart new than you may get the Realtek version. One more thing it does indeed come with windows 11 not 10 as it stated, but your shipment may come with 10 and the intel wireless card so
Also for those that may have this laptop, look here for help In getting Linux running as someone on GitHub and Reddit that has a Lenovo laptop with similar specs got it working but needed to do a few things but it’s possible at least. It’s a wonderful windows 11/10 business laptop out of the box. Also it can do some light gaming like forza 5 at medium and a setting or two at high with about 33-40 fps at 1080p and halo master chief collection with all halo games so far on normal with 45-60 fps. I’m gonna stop as I basically did a mini review.

I saw something in the forum rules about no promotion so I’m just making sure. I see many others doing device reviews so I’m guessing it’s fine to do so.

Hi! I'm thinking of upgrading my laptop and this model caught my attention because of the technical specifications. I have a question, how is the battery life? I'm going to give it heavy use for development (nodejs and javascript) under Ubuntu 20.04. You recommend me ?

I would suggest running latest the Linux kernel on which ever distro you decide to run. I Found latest ubuntu 20.04 lts works well with Kde plasma haven't tested other distros but one thing to consider is that the Wifi Chipset is a RTL8852AE Wifi 6. Some others come with the intel one I just got a bit unlucky but after looking for the kernel module for this and researching I found as long as you do tethering to the laptop from a phone or connect a WIFI dongle temporarily that's all ready in the kernel and follow the instructions the internal wifi will work. Everything else Audio, Usb C, Trackpad, Keyboard, Web Cam thought only 720p but hardware fault, and etc works out of the box at least. Heres the wifi driver.

Battery life on power saver or balanced CPU governor is about 4 to 5 hours depending on use. If you decide to go for performance than battery life is more like 2 to 3 with heavy use. I mainly bought this laptop as a desktop replacement which works great for me because the Usb C does HDMI and I have the laptop screen so I have a total of 3 screens when needed and the Cpu, Apu, and Memory for great performance comparable to the Ryzen 7 5700G but more like the AMD Ryzen 5 3600G which is perfect for me when it comes to compiling and such. I usually use this laptop plugged in with my monitor setup except when I need to go somewhere which these days and remote work is usually never especially with Covid. Some point I plan to organize this thread or create one for reviewing this Laptop. Depending on what people want I will probably just keep this as is and change the title/heading to HP Pavilion EH1070WM Laptop review. Also sorry its been a month I have been busy lately with online college along side with work.
