Hi..hoping someone can help me out.
BACKGROUND
Got an unlocked, unbranded, basically unaltered-from-the-factory HTC Desire A8181.
Been eagerly awaiting the Froyo update which I happily noted (on the phone itself) was available yesterday in OTA
Unhappily, I was unable to complete the update with it stopping around the 50% mark when I ran into a data download limit.
ISSUE
I have now tried reconnecting to get the update (Settings > About Phone > System software updates) and the phone is thinking it is up to date! (Your phone is up to date. There are no updates available for your phone)
Clearly, it isn't up to date (Settings > About Phone > Software Information: Firmware version=2.1-update1)
QUESTION
Is there a "registry" or something somewhere that I need to hack to tell it that it isn't up to date?
Thanks in anticipation - really want to get the update!!
(yes..I've tried restarting the phone..no luck though it did come up with a notification that other programs had updates but not the Android OS itself!)

Sounds like you using an Asian ROM, they haven't been released yet. I had the same, so I Made a gold card, changed to a WWE rom and then updated OTA.
Let me know if you need instructions.
Thanks for the reply wickedpenguin (ah..gotta to love forum names).
So that it is clear:
This A8181 is from the UK
It did indicate there was an OTA update available which as I said I was half way through prior to data disconnection - the A8181 only thought it was up to date after this update interruption.
So since it is from the UK and I did get an indication an update was available..do I have an Asian ROM? (please forgive me if I'm wrong..new at this).
If I do have an Asian ROM..did what you write before mean changing it to another type? (obviously from that it means I will need instructions if this is something I need to do)
Thanks!
I have the same problem.
I canceled the update due to i wanted to run it from a WiFi connection and now i cannot update anymore.
I receive that the phone is up to date, but it is not
Can someone help us!!!

Exactly the same thing here. I tried a factory wipe also tried wiping the cache and booting without SDCard, nothing seems to work.
I can't post links yet but had similar experiences and have documented my experience in the "Desire General" section. The key for me was to update using a Gold Card.
I had the same problem this morning, but now it's available again.
Arrgh! Foiled again!!
Ok..I second the above. I managed to get the Desire to recognise it wasn't up to date today. After waiting a LONG time for the 90Mb update I then run into another problem...
DESIRE NEEDS 25Mb phone memory to do the update!
I cleared the space but then ended up with the same problem where the phone thinks it is up to date (when it isn't).
So..take home message people - make sure your phone has at least 25Mb memory free! (bring on the App2SD)
Android OS developers - please take note that the phone should check for this prior to downloading a 90Mb system update!! Alternatively..make it obvious to the user how to run an update that has already been downloaded (I can't even see where it is on my SD card).
Now I'm back to square one. Is the day in which you tried to do a failed update a factor in the phone recognising if it is up to date or not? If so..I suppose I just have to try this again tomorrow? Grr..
@ DesireOwner10 i noticed you did a factory wipe, but did you mean factory settings restore or hard drive format (via the volume down + on/off button menu) ?
I too am having this problem recieved the notification earlier, but no longer available. My phone is or has never been rooted. Please help!!!
any solution
hi guys,
same problem for me here - it did indicate the update, but I had no time to install, so just canceled that.
Now, when I have time, there is no update available ;-) what the hell is going on ??
I don't want to use gold card if not really necessary.

Thanks for response.
I bought this phone from someone else. I myself didn't do a factory wipe on it but given what you're saying, is that what Firmware version=2.1-update1 means?
It has been 2 days since my 2nd unsuccessful up date - the phone still thinks it is up to date.
I got in touch with HTC. Their suggestion was to wind the phone forward 2 years - not sure if this would work but would if I could: The phone is managing to hang onto the current date despite me manually setting it (yes, I have unchecked the "Use network-provided values" option and have even gone as far as taking out the SIM card to stop it from getting onto the cell network).
Anyone have any ideas on how to get my phone to get with the program or at least force it to go forward 2 years to see if that will work?
Thanks.

Exactly the same problem here. I've got the same firmware version as you. I bought the phone brand new from Amazon UK.
I read elsewhere about the date trick. I'm having the same issue updating the date, it instantly changes back. This doesn't happen when the phone is disconnected from the internet so I presume the date is being updated from an NTP server or something. Of course, the phone has to be connected to do the update so I'm looking for a way of switching this auto-date feature off, or blocking it at the router. Blocking the NTP port doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Does this date trick even work anyway?!

I've tried the same thing, but I've also tried to disable WiFi, change date on mobile internet and then try to update. The date has changed, but still i get a message that everything is up to date.

Wow, quick reply! Really enjoying this forum...
So are you saying that setting the date forward, say 2 years, doesn't trick the phone into updating?
Might be getting somewhere with this...
I've blocked all network traffic to my HTC Desire at my wifi's firewall, and checked via the phone's browser to make sure that the phone can't get online. Then I tried to check for updates again, and the phone came back with the same message 'Your phone is up to date'. It couldn't possibly have checked, as it can't communicate with the update server.
The router reports that the phone is trying to access 63.241.57.68 when checking for updates. Using my laptop, I've found that I can't access this IP address. Traceroute doesn't work, and centralops.net can't reach it. So I wonder if the reason that our phones won't update is either because they're either attempting to connect to the wrong IP address, or the update server is down (or overloaded)?

I have a same problem. I have unbranded Desire (never locked, never rooted, bought in EU) and I get a message that my phone is up to date. My friends who bought Desire at a same carrier as I did already got Froyo on their phones. I can move the date forward (2011 or 2012), but as soon as I enable Wlan connection, date goes back to 2010. I don't want to use gold card because Froyo should be already available OTA.
The more I look into this, the more I think that it's just a case of the update servers being hammered.
Apparently the traceroute I tried earlier wouldn't have worked anyway, as the connection is routed through attens.net who block traceroutes, pings etc. for security reasons.
Just keep trying, I'm sure eventually we'll get through!
Thanks for the contributions all

So according to the above it would seem the problem is more fundamental to the phone itself thinking it is up to date..perhaps it records the last date of its latest "update" and checks that against the current date? If that's the case, the moving the date forward thing might work but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing this.
Besides..it was only 1 day between my 1st & 2nd failed update attempts so unless this changes, one should only need to wait a day between attempts?
Anyone with any further thoughts? Thanks.
Another possibility is that the phone just says it's up to date unless it receives a message from the update server saying otherwise? So that no reply would still result in that same message.
If I knew how to inspect the actual data being transmitted and received by the phone, I could investigate further. Any ideas?
I have d855 and there is an error which appears 10 times during the day. It says: unfortunately bluetooth has stopped. It doesnt matter if the blutooth is on/off When it happens. I did a factory reset but it keep on going. what should I do?

But I can see now that this error appears mostly after i installing some app from the market. It doesnt matter which app.
mine has started to develop this too...didnt do anything out of the ordinary...and I cant for the life of me fix the thing..funny thing is, the message comes up even when bluetooth is switched off..
Anything? Read somewhere its a common problem with the g3 and lg knows about it
I'm not sure to be honest I've never had that issue with my D850 or F400S so I couldn't tell you. It could be a D855 issue.
Yeah might be.. I have the d855..i mean i can live with it..but its annoying as hell
I have a G3 d855, running v10i firmware. The phone is rooted.
I'm facing the same issue too.

Yeah, i think i had it for the last 3 firmwares...again, I read online that LG knows about this problem. However, no fix yet. If its common for all D855, than we should have more reporting it. But this thread has been fairly quiet

You could try a factory reset and see if it pops back up. Im not sure if its tmobile or lg but I hate the update system they have. Sometimes you see it sometimes it takes a month after release.
If I do a factory reset she will loose all her stuff. So she said no to a factory reset

I had the same situation with my LG3.I talked to tech support and because of the bugs with Lollipop and LG phones ,they have taken down the update till they fix the problems
Thanks!
There are other ways to update. Search through the forums and you will find a plethora of info on how to do it. Also check the support site on tmobile, it gives you info on how to update the phone via a computer.
No "Software Update" button in About Phone. Cannot even check for new updates.
Hi,
So my phone had the dreaded bootloop a month ago. No biggie, sent it into warranty. Took one month for them to get it back to me and low and behold, my 6.0 LG G4 is now 5.1. No biggie I thought, ill just check for updates. The only thing is, there is no Software Update or Check for updates anywhere. I've tried the "about phone" section and the "software version" section too. Nothing. Zero. The LG update centre also automatically takes me to the app update page rather than the software one.
I've tried connecting it to my computer however the LG software just doesn't recognise it being connected. Tried 4 different computers. It also has a weird quirk where if i switch it out of MTP mode, it doesn't go back to it until i factory reset. I'm assuming a lot of these issues can be resolved if I just update it, however I cannot for the life of me. Any suggestions short of taking it back to the store?

I have an lg g4 with the same problem.
No software update center. Only app updates
Not getting connected to LG Bridge and LG UP,
etc
Kindly help me to update marshmallow
Ive had this issue in the past. With the mtp protocol on ls991. Only time it ever did as described is when rooted. I had to use the dialer codes. To get into the usb settings and change them manually there. Not the ones in notif bar but. In hidden menu.
The key there is to never touch the usb settings never switch to charge only or ptp it will never go back to mtp. Mine persisted throught factory resets. Only lg flashtool and total restore fix it the rerooted
Sounds like u got a bad firmware download. From the factory. And its weird cause lg always updates the device to the newest firmware.
I recently unrooted my m8 and reverted back to the stock os and now everything works great. I had a wifi issue when going through the stock process but I found the problem. Now the phone is usable, but every time I connect it to my PC, it shows up but this is all I see.
http://imgur.com/a/0U2y6
I should also note that when I try drag something into the phone directory it gives me an error saying "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnecting" and on HTC sync manager my phone shows up for a split second and then gives me "device unavailable. Please reconnect your device. [4]"
Edit: Some Apps like facebook, hangouts are also not updating. Not sure if that has anything to do with the syncing problem.
Thanks!
