Hi..hoping someone can help me out.
BACKGROUND
Got an unlocked, unbranded, basically unaltered-from-the-factory HTC Desire A8181.
Been eagerly awaiting the Froyo update which I happily noted (on the phone itself) was available yesterday in OTA
Unhappily, I was unable to complete the update with it stopping around the 50% mark when I ran into a data download limit.
ISSUE
I have now tried reconnecting to get the update (Settings > About Phone > System software updates) and the phone is thinking it is up to date! (Your phone is up to date. There are no updates available for your phone)
Clearly, it isn't up to date (Settings > About Phone > Software Information: Firmware version=2.1-update1)
QUESTION
Is there a "registry" or something somewhere that I need to hack to tell it that it isn't up to date?
Thanks in anticipation - really want to get the update!!
(yes..I've tried restarting the phone..no luck though it did come up with a notification that other programs had updates but not the Android OS itself!)

Sounds like you using an Asian ROM, they haven't been released yet. I had the same, so I Made a gold card, changed to a WWE rom and then updated OTA.
Let me know if you need instructions.
Thanks for the reply wickedpenguin (ah..gotta to love forum names).
So that it is clear:
This A8181 is from the UK
It did indicate there was an OTA update available which as I said I was half way through prior to data disconnection - the A8181 only thought it was up to date after this update interruption.
So since it is from the UK and I did get an indication an update was available..do I have an Asian ROM? (please forgive me if I'm wrong..new at this).
If I do have an Asian ROM..did what you write before mean changing it to another type? (obviously from that it means I will need instructions if this is something I need to do)
Thanks!
I have the same problem.
I canceled the update due to i wanted to run it from a WiFi connection and now i cannot update anymore.
I receive that the phone is up to date, but it is not
Can someone help us!!!

Exactly the same thing here. I tried a factory wipe also tried wiping the cache and booting without SDCard, nothing seems to work.
I can't post links yet but had similar experiences and have documented my experience in the "Desire General" section. The key for me was to update using a Gold Card.
I had the same problem this morning, but now it's available again.
Arrgh! Foiled again!!
Ok..I second the above. I managed to get the Desire to recognise it wasn't up to date today. After waiting a LONG time for the 90Mb update I then run into another problem...
DESIRE NEEDS 25Mb phone memory to do the update!
I cleared the space but then ended up with the same problem where the phone thinks it is up to date (when it isn't).
So..take home message people - make sure your phone has at least 25Mb memory free! (bring on the App2SD)
Android OS developers - please take note that the phone should check for this prior to downloading a 90Mb system update!! Alternatively..make it obvious to the user how to run an update that has already been downloaded (I can't even see where it is on my SD card).
Now I'm back to square one. Is the day in which you tried to do a failed update a factor in the phone recognising if it is up to date or not? If so..I suppose I just have to try this again tomorrow? Grr..
@ DesireOwner10 i noticed you did a factory wipe, but did you mean factory settings restore or hard drive format (via the volume down + on/off button menu) ?
I too am having this problem recieved the notification earlier, but no longer available. My phone is or has never been rooted. Please help!!!
any solution
hi guys,
same problem for me here - it did indicate the update, but I had no time to install, so just canceled that.
Now, when I have time, there is no update available ;-) what the hell is going on ??
I don't want to use gold card if not really necessary.

Thanks for response.
I bought this phone from someone else. I myself didn't do a factory wipe on it but given what you're saying, is that what Firmware version=2.1-update1 means?
It has been 2 days since my 2nd unsuccessful up date - the phone still thinks it is up to date.
I got in touch with HTC. Their suggestion was to wind the phone forward 2 years - not sure if this would work but would if I could: The phone is managing to hang onto the current date despite me manually setting it (yes, I have unchecked the "Use network-provided values" option and have even gone as far as taking out the SIM card to stop it from getting onto the cell network).
Anyone have any ideas on how to get my phone to get with the program or at least force it to go forward 2 years to see if that will work?
Thanks.

Exactly the same problem here. I've got the same firmware version as you. I bought the phone brand new from Amazon UK.
I read elsewhere about the date trick. I'm having the same issue updating the date, it instantly changes back. This doesn't happen when the phone is disconnected from the internet so I presume the date is being updated from an NTP server or something. Of course, the phone has to be connected to do the update so I'm looking for a way of switching this auto-date feature off, or blocking it at the router. Blocking the NTP port doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Does this date trick even work anyway?!

Wow, quick reply! Really enjoying this forum...
So are you saying that setting the date forward, say 2 years, doesn't trick the phone into updating?
Might be getting somewhere with this...
I've blocked all network traffic to my HTC Desire at my wifi's firewall, and checked via the phone's browser to make sure that the phone can't get online. Then I tried to check for updates again, and the phone came back with the same message 'Your phone is up to date'. It couldn't possibly have checked, as it can't communicate with the update server.
The router reports that the phone is trying to access 63.241.57.68 when checking for updates. Using my laptop, I've found that I can't access this IP address. Traceroute doesn't work, and centralops.net can't reach it. So I wonder if the reason that our phones won't update is either because they're either attempting to connect to the wrong IP address, or the update server is down (or overloaded)?

I have a same problem. I have unbranded Desire (never locked, never rooted, bought in EU) and I get a message that my phone is up to date. My friends who bought Desire at a same carrier as I did already got Froyo on their phones. I can move the date forward (2011 or 2012), but as soon as I enable Wlan connection, date goes back to 2010. I don't want to use gold card because Froyo should be already available OTA.
The more I look into this, the more I think that it's just a case of the update servers being hammered.
Apparently the traceroute I tried earlier wouldn't have worked anyway, as the connection is routed through attens.net who block traceroutes, pings etc. for security reasons.
Just keep trying, I'm sure eventually we'll get through!
Thanks for the contributions all

So according to the above it would seem the problem is more fundamental to the phone itself thinking it is up to date..perhaps it records the last date of its latest "update" and checks that against the current date? If that's the case, the moving the date forward thing might work but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing this.
Besides..it was only 1 day between my 1st & 2nd failed update attempts so unless this changes, one should only need to wait a day between attempts?
Anyone with any further thoughts? Thanks.
Another possibility is that the phone just says it's up to date unless it receives a message from the update server saying otherwise? So that no reply would still result in that same message.
If I knew how to inspect the actual data being transmitted and received by the phone, I could investigate further. Any ideas?

Anyone help me with some ideas on this?
Last week I received the OTA update to 2.3.3 via Virgin and have had nothing but problems since. Firstly I started experiencing problems with WiFi dropping out more often than it did on 2.2. After it drops out if I go to settings and refresh the network list I can see my AP and reconnect immediately, but shortly after it will drop out again. Then the mobile internet stopped working intermittently. When I try to view a page I get a "forbidden" message, but on WiFi I have no problem accessing pages. Then last night (a week after the update) the biggest problem developed. I am unable to send text messages. I can select a recipient, enter the message text but pressing the send button does nothing. I don't even get a failure message, it just stays on the same screen and no matter how many times I press send nothing happens. If I then leave the message app it saves the message as a draft as it was never sent. Receiving messages works ok, but I cannot reply. What do I need to do to go back to 2.2? I'm at my wits end with it and the battery life has also suffered dramatically since the update. Thanks - Matt.
Hi,
I'd frist try to reset the settings to factory defaults. If that doesn't seem to work for you, I'd say it's a matter of warranty - so go to the store and have the phone changed.
Alternatively, you could try to root the phone (VOIDS WARRANTY!) and install a custom kernel (supplied with the plethora of custom ROMS on this forum) - together with the ROM and see how that goes.
Know anyone else with the same phone, same update, same carrier?
Definetily go ROOT....trust me ...once you root ,....you nver go back
yes
rooting may void guaranty.... but you can revert it to original state....i did it when i had to send it to service
I recommend with all y hear ANDROID REVOLUTION by mike1986, IMHO the best CUSTOM rom AND FAR MUCH BETTER THAN ORIGINAL GINFERBREAD ;D

I think he can't. If he has installed the update last week, it is possible, that he has at least build number 2.37 or newer.
Sorry, didn't notice these replies never got a notification email.
Version I'm on now is 2.3.3. Text sending issue now seems to have gone away (for now). Thought about rooting before but not very knowledgable and it's a bit daunting!

Not necessary - I've also updated to 2.3.3 (FOTA direct from HTC - unbranded phone) & I have build 2.36

Basically - even though you have Android 2.3.3 - there are different 'build numbers'
Currently, those with build 2.36 should be able to downgrade > root > upgrade.
Those with build 2.37 currently cannot downgrade
If you're not sure what build number you are - press:-
menu > settings > About Phone > Software information
Build number is 2.36.351.16 so that means I'm good to go?
Yes, you can root this version of 2.3.3 (if you want to use custom roms).
Ok, so I updated my s3 to 4.1.1 but after a week of using the update, I still hadn't seen any sign of the expandable notification options. So I decided to re-install the update by flashing via Odin, which I did. After the flash, the expandable notifications still weren't available, so I instead flashed the stock firmware, hoping to update from stock and see if the problem was fixed. Unfortunately when I rebooted after the stock install, my phone would no longer connect to data, or even to the network period. I can't text, make calls, or connect to data. It shows full bars but when I try to do anything it tells me the network is unavailable.
I tried a lot of options for fixing it:
-I checked all my network settings. Data was on, I switched into and out of airplane mode, no luck.
-I tried to set my network operator by manually selecting tmobile. No luck.
-I tried re-entering T-Mobile's APN settings. No luck.
-I tried to restore from a backup I made of my 4.1.1 when it was first updated. No luck.
-I tried flashing multiple versions of stock firmware, as well as cm10. No luck.
-I checked my IMEI, it's correct.
-I flashed a few different modems. No luck.
I've run out of ideas and I can't find any other ideas in the forums. The closest I have come to getting a fix was during one instance when I was flashing stock again, I cleared my cache, dalvik cache, and did a factory reset as well as formatting my internal storage. When it did the first boot it had service for about thirty seconds. I was able to receive a few waiting text messages, and I had edge data for the remainder of the 30 second or so period. Then I lost data again. Every time I boot a notification ticks on my status bar that says "Restricted Access Changed" and before I can pull down and tap it, the notification is gone. When I try to set a Network Operator, it says something along the lines of "Unable to connect, not registered on the network." I'm stumped.
Has anybody else had this problem, and does anybody know how to fix it?
Just a guess, but perhaps T-Mobile has blocked your IMEI? Did you buy the phone off of someone or straight from T-Mobile?
Did you ever report it lost or stolen?
Only thing I can think of given your scenario.

I bought it through Costco as an authorized upgrade offer by T-Mobile. I can't imagine any reason why my IMEI would be blocked. I went to the t-mobile store yesterday and they told me that it should be working and that I should take it back to Costco and see if they can do anything for me in terms of replacement.
Problem Solved!
Apparently it was because when I got my phone they didn't give me the upgraded sim, they just cut my current one to fit the microsim slot. Go figure. This could have been solved by tmobile last night if the guy hadn't refused to help me just because I had rom manager installed on my phone. Just because I have a root program installed on my phone doesn't mean my phone got messed up playing around with root. Anyways, i updated my sim card through tmobile's phone service and I'm a happy camper now!
Good day Gentlemen and Ladies,
So, as you the title states I cannot connect to mobile data (3g). (Before posting this I had done my research trying to find a solution and I cannot find any solutions) Let me tell you a little bit about my Galaxy Nexus SO originally when it was purchased it was a yakjuxw and I flashed to stock yakju-4.0.4 by this methodI can not link the video atm as I am a noob here) (I am sure that I did not skip any steps). I updated to android 4.2.1 all OTA updates and since that day I cannot connect to mobile data. I am pretty sure this is a software issue unless its a coincidence that my device fails on me at this point in time. Everything worked fine before i flashed it. I have tried going into *#*#4636#*#* and making sure my network type is correct as well as the radio band as automatic. I tried rebooting the device, I turned on mobile data and waited for +2hours for it to connect and nothing. I am sure I did not reach my mobile data limit as it is the beginning of my billing cycle. So, if anyone has any solutions would you be kind enough to give me a link or instructions on how to fix this problem. I recently also got double my data free of charge (from my provider) and I can't even use it Lol... Thanks!
1. Settings -> About Phone -> See your baseband? Does it exist or does it say Unknown?
2. Attempted to reset APN?
3. Tried your SIM card in another phone? Does data work on that phone?

Man you are a genius thank you. It was an APN problem. I think when I flashed it the server # and port # went missing or something so I added those and 30 seconds later it is all working! Thanks again my friend. And for anyone who has this in the future you can access you APN settings->more...->mobile networks->Access Point Names (and APN vary on provider)
Hi there,
Excuse the novice. Just got this 2 days ago and I am still trying to figure it out why I can't access the net at all.
I have not got Android experience much and I am digging now how to come out of this situation.
So no option to access Net at all. The Error in response is " Couldn't sign in. There was communicating problem with Google servers . Try again later." So this is like a loop there.
Android Version -5.1
Baseband Varsion - MOLY.LR9.W1444.MD.LWTG.MP.V16.P10
Kernel Version - 3.10.65
Build Number -ALPS.L1.MP3.V2_NB6753.65U.L1_P22
Custom Build Version - Elephone_P8000_20151014
I must admit the Phone came preset and once I have switch it on it picked up GMT time without I have set anything.
I will appreciate any help or pointing to a resources to try to solve as now it is unusable as I can't download anything.
Thanks in advance.
Check:
Settings --> Data Usage --> (cellular provider tab) --> toggle 'enable mobile data'
See if that's the issue. Good luck.
Now Stacked to The Elephone Logo on and unresponsive.

Thanks kevvyboy,
I can't do anything right now. The phone by itself (really) got in a mode I can't read even with letters so small, went to the Android Man with red Mark and now is in front of me unresponsive with the logo of Elephone totaly unresponsive.
Just to underline - I have not touch anything- I have left it on stand by last time I have played with it.
Any clues and help please will be much appreciated.
PS. NOW I have managed to (I guess Switched it off) and again on and there was window with APP UPDATE - came to 116 out of 116 updated and now again can't access the net neither Google Play.
Could this be a OTA Update completed somehow?
Thanks everyone in advance!

Hi again,
I have enabled the cellular data - no luck again.
When I am trying google play again message Google servers can't be reached and the more interesting - using the - preload browser it try to search trough yahoo search. This phone was sold to me as new, but I am starting to wonder what it has been through before it reached me?
Will a flash using PhilZ Recovery will help?
Could someone point me the way out of this please?
Thanks!
New bizarre Message.

Thanks!
Stuck on Airplane Mode? Try toggling it on and off. I remember my HTC OneX having an Airplane Mode issue - had to toggle on / off several times and reboot.
ETA - faulty APN settings for your provider? May explain a mobile data issue, but doesn't address the wifi issue.
Dammit.

Somehow I have managed to get the Cellular data connected and now have updated the Google Service.
WI-FI still an issue. Is there any sense - updating a driver (if I am not asking stupid question here)?
Thanks!
Glad to hear at least cellular working! The wifi issue is a bit of a mystery to me though - I'm all out of smart ideas, sorry
Hopefully some other bright soul can chip in.

download drivers for SP flash tools and SP flash tools program.
go and download mediatek drivers and sp flash tool.
you can get these from elephones website, google or where ever. i got mind from needarom. i used the latest versions for both.
i downloaded the 5th November 2015 firmware from elephones rom. it came pre 7-zipped. i unzipped it and left it's structure.
installing the drivers part:
you need to disable signature enforcement in your OS to install the drivers.
open SP flash tools.
load the scatter file in the official rom folder you unzipped with 7 zip.
at this point press the download button in SP tools.
switch off your phone. connect the usb cable to the phone and the computer.
you should now have the latest firmware on you phone when complete.
please note it wipes everything, so back up anything important to you.
once done, set up your apn in settings, mobile networks, access points.
wifi should work after a clean factory reset if you don't have a dodgy device.
elephone only supports 2.4ghz for wifi as far as a i know.
also make sure your network bands and are supported by the p8000.

Hi El_Nino9,
Thank you for the reply and sorry I am delaying my response. I have actually done some of the suggested previously once I read more on the site - thanks for the contributors here. I had Eragon 9.5.0 Custom ROM set with Philiz recovery tool after Mediatek driver download but the wi-fi is still an issue.
I will try to perform the the one suggested from you, I just have located the latest Elephone p8000 ROM on the Elephone site and will perform this on a first chance I have. - most probably on Friday.
Thanks once again and I will post an update from the outcome.
OK!
I have done the upgrade to the 05.11.15 Stock ROM.
Have made a Factory Reset and the Wi-Fi is working as before but I can't reach internet basically.
Again after attempts to get to Play Store or to or to perform a simple Google Search it comes again after message "Just a second" and after 20- 30 seconds it end up with the message.
"Google Server can't be reached at the moment please try again later."
Any help on this will be much appreciated!
Thanks a lot in advance!
P.S>
I have just discovered that the icon of the WI - FI showing a processes going on but I can't reach My Router URL for example through the Local network.
Does it mean this is really dodgy unit or I am missing any settings or there is any cure for this?
Thanks again!

so your mobile data still works on the latest firmware? specially after typing the correct apn settings?
regarding your wifi, where is the router in relation to your position? far away? standing right next to it with the phone? whats your encryption for your wifi? tried changing that to a different type and seeing if it connects?
if you have big concrete walls and live in a nice solid building that may too cause signal not to reach. the wifi isn't that great on the device speaking from experiance in comparison to other devices.
if all fails... possibly dodgy device

Hi EL_Nino9,
I guess either the p8000 not like my D-LinkDIR-655 router or I am missing something in general.
I have an extension for the other rooms and the phone connecting to a simple TP-Link with no hassle at all, but D-Link is like a brick wall - you see the wi-fy working but no internet access.
It is still a mystery.
At least is proven the wi-fi module is working.
Believe me - I have tried to alter the setting on the route and still can't get to the net content.
Will keep exploring this and will report if any luck.
Thnaks!
I´m facing the same issue here. Google-Services like Google-Photo, Gdrive, Inbox are not working. Any solutions so far?
Looks Like I have rooter WI-FI issues

I´m facing the same issue here. Google-Services like Google-Photo, Gdrive, Inbox are not working. Any solutions so far?

Hi kraftmaschine - I have discovered that my aged D-LInk DIR-655 was giving me problems dropping out the signal. I had an access through mobile network and through my other room extension rooter, so I got on mind either compatibility issue or router problem. So I have upgraded the router and voila. Everything got sorted.
Also upgrade to the latest mod - not OWA but using the standard methods described here.
Hope that helps.
Hi All,
I am running the stock HTC image and have been unable to get it to download updates. I've tried from different Internet connections over WiFi and also by allowing updates directly over 4G. I've taken some screenshots of what happens.
I get a notification that there is an update available. I check and it says there is an update for HTC Sense and a software update.

I start the update and it never gets past this point. It will sit like this for hours, days, and even a week. It never progresses beyond 0%.

Can anyone offer any advice. When I have a look at what connections are going out from the phone I can see it go out to.

As far as I can tell it never actually tries downloading any of these files. I've tried removing anything from between the phone and the Internet and its just not getting anywhere. If I manually download this OTA_HIMA_UHL_N70_SENSE80_MR_hTC_Asia_TW_4.16.709.3_R-3.36.709.3_release_4932882t2bg045jugwv5yo.zip file, how would I go about installing this manually if that is even possible?
Set it to auto download them and see if it clears them itself.

I reset the phone to default and the updates came down. Not really sure why it wouldn't until I did that.
