The screen kill the battery.. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I have note 2 n7100 with stock rom of BTU ver. 4.4.2.
In Last months the battery life down and I was try to buy a new one. Original. But it not help too much.. I tried to find what the problem and I think that is the screen. But why?
If I am doesn't using in the device or little use. Is is stay on 70% approx on night. Its good. But using in screen. Kill the battery after a 2.5 hours.. The surprise is that it's same if I'm using in browser or play in asphalt..
In past the device survive up to 6 screen hours. After the update to kitkat it's up to 5 hours. But now its very short time..
I tried to check with the built in and with external apps what using the power. The screen first at all.. Sometimes the asphalt 8 too if I am using him. . Doesn't found something else.
The brightness is very low. Approx 30%.. Sometimes less..
So what can be the problem?. Any reason can to be for the screen to loss power?

are you sure you've bought the original battery?
try to turn off wifi, data, gps, bluetooth for 1 night and see if the results are better

Yes. Its original..
If the screen off. And have basic use. The battery performance is good.. The problem is with screen time

Even I was thinking of buying an original battery from the service center. My battery charges to 100% very fast and discharges equally fast. I'm thinking the battery capacity has decreased dramatically. Screen on time is about 3 hours at minimum brightness. The screen has also has a yellowish tint (maybe burnt in a bit). After reading this I'm having second thoughts on whether to go for the replacement battery on simply buy a new device. My phone is almost 2and a half years old now.

Maybe it's time to change the device if it's faulty, but I would also check you are logged out of any apps and you could try using Battery Doctor and see how quickly the battery drains if you don't use the device after `optimizing' with Battery Doctor.

I am doesn't think that the battery is the problem..
If I am not using the screen. The battery performance is good..
And its not problem with this model. In past it was approx 4~6 screen hours..

Just update.. Its was the battery..
I replaced it in phonix battery and now its battery.
Approx 4 screen hours. 1 from the in games. Its fine..

Battery drain issue?

Hey guys,
so I recently purchased an International HTC One X and hsve loved it so far, but I think the battery is draining too fast.
On standby, it drained from 93% to 89-92% in 8 hrs which I suppose is good, but while using, it drops pretty quick. I wanna know how many hours or how much percentage does your battery decrease by while on standby or during use?
By the statistics I have provided, do u think there's anything wrong with my battery?
PS: I used the built in battery app, go to settings>power
Thanks, Id really appreciate it if u could help out since I'm worried if my newly expensively bought phone has something wrong with it or not, ill hit the thanks button

Battery drain
I'm currently on Leedroid' ROM and the behaviour is similar to what I had with the stock rom and looks like the folowing:
Data or WiFi on, autobrightness on, autosync off
Hangs a litle on 100% then dops abruptly from 98-97% to 80% in about 4-5 hrs with a screen time under 30'
from 70% to 30% however, the battery drain "magically" improves giving 6-8 hrs of standby including 2 hrs of screen time of which the most is used to browse the net via 3G.
At the moment my stats are: 13h 50' on baterry, 2h 15' screen time, 21% left
I got a steep drop from 31% to 21%, just as I was checking the stats for this message, but bare in mind this is the first run with Leedroid (flashed last evening) so I expect things to improve.
After 10-12 days on the stock rom I remember getting some 3-3.5 hrs of screen time within 16 - 18 hrs total before reaching 10%.
So i suggest, give the battery a little time to settle, then adjust your usage habits according to what you get (like turning autobrightness off, data off etc).
I for one am waiting for some stable kernel improvments regarding the tegra power mangement (sounds cool, have no idea what I'm talking about and I expect to get some 20-30% more screen time within the same time period (18-20hrs).
I've been running a few battery tests. Last night I wanted to totally burn out the battery so I used it down to about 5% and started a youtube movie streaming over wifi at full brightness. An hour later...... it finally died.
The companion core on this thing can really confuse you are testing standby time or music and video playback.
I want a mod for the phone where I can toggle it to use 1, 2, or 4 cores. To the OS, it looks like core0 is also the companion core.
Thanks

so do you think there really is something wrong with my battery?
i read on a popular android website that they played a video on mx player in loops and it lasted for 6 hrs and 6 mins, which makes like 17 percent for every hour of viewing. I downloaded mx player, gonna watch a movie, and hope the battery drain is on par
The less battery doesnt bother me much, what does is that im worried that there MAY be something wrong with my battery, gonna try out for a day or 2, gonna see if my results can match urs, thanks
just hope theres nothing wrong with my battery
PS: i have everything stock, i unlocked bootloader, flash CWM5.8.x.x but returned to stock later.

So the browsing drained about 70% of the battery right? Suppose those 11 hours of sleep took even 10%, and u have 21% left, so u spent about 70% on the browsing right? Thanks
when you charge to 100% it drops down to 95% then charges back up to stop over charging, who ever it doesn't show you the % it just says 100% thats why you can lose ~5% in a few seconds when first taking it off charge.
yesterday i got 14 hours 9% left and had just a little over 4 hours screen time on leedroid 5.1.
playing games is a massive drain

Thanks, that's what I hope to achieve. I did a factory reset, will fully charge and see how it fares tomorrow. Btw, I don't play games on battery precisely because of the massive consumption.

Battery Fix
I had a pretty serious battery issue during my first couple days with the phone, where the battery drain was extremely fast and inconsistent, sometimes dropping 5% at a time and giving me maybe 8 hours of life total.
The issue was that the battery tracking in the phone was messed up. When you go to Settings>Power, the default setting for "Fast Boot" is on. This seems to mess up the way that battery drain is tracked. I fixed the issue by turning Fast Boot off, charging up the phone to 99% (it wouldn't reach 100, that's how bad it was messed up), then restarting it. Now, it works perfectly and easily gets me through the day with moderate/heavy usage; I watched a 30 min video streaming from youtube of wifi and lost only 7%.
The downside is now the phone takes 5 seconds longer to start up .

Why not join the Battery Stats thread that has like 20-30 pages of discussion already.. I fail to see how a new thread every day helps people to find what they want to find..

I did that, and streamed on youtube for 30 mins, lost like 9 percentage, is it good? or is there something with my battery?
All of your battery issue will be sorted out people..don't forget that One X is still running on GB kernel n so is transformer prime..Nvidia n HTC are working on the ICS kernel..n once they are out with it our HOX is gonna blow away everything in the Market in both performance n battery life

That's perfectly fine. Battery drain will never be perfectly consistent (perhaps your video had better graphics/resolution than mine did). Looks like your battery's OK now.

Extended battery issues

Hello guys,
I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus running the latest Android 4.2.1 Officialy from Google. I hae bought an original extended battery for it, but the issue is that it seems that it holds less juice than the original one, that came with the phone.
With the default battery, i get around 3 hours of screen on and with the extended one, i barely get 2:40 minutes. Tried this a couple of times.
What's the matter with it ? Do i need to calibrate it somehow ?
I have the same battery and had the same issue. After using it for about a week it started working better. What I suggest is charge it all the way up and then use it until it completely goes dead then fully charge it again. Do this a few times then you should notice the difference which isn't huge but I'm averaging about 4-5 hours more than standard now.

I did this allready, and there's no improovement.
I have been using this batter for over 1 month now.

With Li-ion batteries, this should make no difference what so ever. It should get better over time. From what I've researched, you should never let a li-ion battery fully die. When it hits 20% - 30% fully charge and then don't charge again until you hit 20%. There are only so many charging cycles on a battery.
You might have something constantly running in the background that is eating your battery. Try juice defender, it drastically improved my stand by time.
What i was saying:
The stock battery holds a charge of ~3 hours of screen on time
The extended battery holds a charge that lasts less than 3 hours witch is strange because it haves a bigger capacity.
Is there any way to reset the baattery stats ? Or to reset the battery count ? Something like that ?
The whole "wipe battery stats" thing found in CWM is useless. Confirmed to be by a developer at google.

I see. Anything else i can try ?

[Q] Battery Problem on my new Note 3!

Welcome! I've got Galaxy Note 3 for 3 days and i'm not satisfied about battery life. I read that it is possible to work on one charging even 3 days! I can work on my max 8h!!! I've got wifi/bt off, battery saver mode on, screen bright on auto and -5, only gsm (not LTE), no sync, no facebook app. When i'm working on my phone i can easily see how battery is discharging When the battery is full and after 10 usage i've got 90% without doing nothing special. Is my battery broken? shoud i use warranty?
You got some app going crazy or something. I get apps that hang sometimes and will kill my battery in a day. Lately ive been paying attention and trying to kill apps that are uselessly draining and ive only used a third of my battery in 24 hours. Just gotta hunt the problem down.
Regardless, its probably just software and not the phone itself.

The Battery Drastically Drained in seconds!

Hi guys. Im new here. I just wanna share about my Z1 compact latest battery problem kinda frustrated me lately.
I bought the phone 2-3 months ago, already with Android Lollipop 5.0.2. Since the purchase, I didnt really face a problem with the battery life as it lasted about 12 hours per charge due to my heavy usage of the phone.
But a few days lately, my phone being worrying me as the battery doesnt being as normal as always. For example, it can drain the battery drastically from 88% to 67% in a few seconds when the screen is off (in standby mode). Sometimes, in the middle of the usagefrom 39%, the phone suddenly shows the battery low warning with a 1% battery remaining, and without having enough time to reach the charger, it shuts down by itself.
In rare cases, I caught my phone drained the battery drastically when the screen is still on from 15% to 1% less in a minute.
The phone wasnt rooted and I didnt anything else besides my daily normal usage. The latest apps I downloaded before the problem occurred is Waze.
I tried everything to save the battery like using the Stamina Mode, force stops some apps, slides away all of the running apps in the background but failed. I even factory reset my phone and installed all the apps the way it used to be but still didnt solved the problem.
I still have about 8 monts of Sony warranty but I need you guys help first because I need to use my phone for work right now. Please help and reply.
Thank you. *Sorry if my English isnt that good*
When the battery jumps from 39% to 1%... Does it stay a long time at 39%? Or from 39 to 1 in few minutes?
Just curious...
Sounds like a warranty issue to me. You could try to find out what is causing heavy drain like with BetterBatteryStats. But no app ever should cause such drains.
Sound more like your battery is not okay.

The exactly same problem with me .I have 100% battery and indicator stays 100% for a half hour than drastically drains to 1% and shuts down.
Change your battery! I had the same Problem. I changed my battery with anotherone original from Sony, but a few weeks later the same Problem: quickly battery drain.
So I ordered me a battery from e-bay but NOT one from Sony! Now a few weeks later still NO Problems. Everything runs Ok now. NO battery drain at all.

Where's my good battery life?

I have never had good battery life on my Galaxy Tab S 8.4 ever since I got it in April of 2015. I did a battery test using the Geekbench app and it gets only 4-5 hours of life. And since this is just screen on time, my battery normally drains much faster. I've tried 4.4 Kitkat, 5.1.1 Lolipop, and even 6.0 Marshmellow with no real difference to battery life. I have also tried battery monitoring and battery doctor apps, as well as deleting the batterystats.bin file and even ripping my tablet apart and reseating the battery connector. I've thought about replacing the battery, but the only battery i can find is from NewPower99 and that's $60.00, way too much for a battery in my eyes.
Plenty of battery`s on eBay.

battery life is die quickly in stock rom 5.0.2
Keep your screen brightness as low as usable, avoid white or light screens as they use the most power it is a disadvantage of oled displays, I keep my display on auto -5

Downgrade to KitKat, as the other day i upgraded to lollipop and the battery was dropping 1% every other min its a joke. So i downgraded to KitKat and it gives me easy 3 days use and that's heavy use T705!
How to downgrade t705 to kitkat
I use a built-in feature to keep the screen toned down. In the display settings, there is a reading more feature where I select the apps I primarily use, including my default launcher Nova Launcher, and it tones the screen brightness down while those apps are in focus. Like right now while I'm using the Tapatalk app.

Head over to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ download your firmware and flash using odin it's real simple!
Found this over at Android Central as last few days my battery has been all over the place, as it was fine before. Anyway my battery dropped to 5% turned it off. Waited a minute or so, turned it back on bat was showing 45% wow so i'm draining it again Ive let it drop to 5% again this is the 3rd run now its showing 42% crazy credit goes to rouge-hawkins
I had the same issue on my brand new Galaxy Tab S LTE version with Exynos chip. I was like WTF on the battery because the moment i disconnect it from the charger it would soon drop to about 85% in 5 minutes. Then the dropping continuous in huge leaps like from 70% down to 30% while i'm just browsing the web. Then when it came down to 5% it would turn off. The moment i plug in the charger while the device is off the battery level would start at 40%. It was erratic for 2 weeks. Good news is i was able to resolve this without doing factory resets.
What i did was the moment the battery came down to like 5% i completely turn off the tab and turn it on , the tab reported a higher battery level like 45% then i continued using and until it drops again to a lower level like 3%. I power cycled the tab again and it reported battery level at around 24%. I used it again until battery level went to 3% and rebooted it, then it reported 12%.. used it again until the device really wont boot anymore. Then i used a slow charger. I used the 1A usb charger from my other phone (while off) and waited until 100% full. Then things became normal.. it reports battery level fine after. I also installed Clean Master and disabled some background apps and Samsung bloatware that i really dont use. Everything is ok now and im happy with my Tab S 8.4... hope this helps for those who got their device over the holidays. I resumed using the 2.1A default charger and issue doesnt seem to repeat anymore.
