Hi all,
I've been fiddling with RipTide GP a little bit, just wondering if anyone else has noticed a dip in fps when you set the graphics up from Default to Sharper Graphics?
I mean obviously this is to be expected but I was hoping the T3 could cope okay, what settings do you run it at and are you ROM'd or Stock?

you loose 60fps with the full resolution, thats kinda acceptable given how effects heavy the game is
i also noticed with this game the interactive governor is better but not perfect, since your are using the tilt sensor and not "interacting" with the screen as muhc
and so the governor drops the clocks sometimes
best way to play it is with minimum clock set to 1.0ghz and interactive gov
wish so wish there was a game launcher app on android where we set governor, clocks and minfrees per game

You lose a full 60fps when set to sharper Graphics?! Jeez that's alot, still as you said it is really effects heavy!
At first I thought I was getting tired and wasn't concentrating properly when playing lastnight! Now I know I was loosing a lotta fps!
Interactive Govenor seems best for most games then I think, RipTide GP, Nova 3 etc...
Still haven't set my Govenor yet as I need to install System Tuner.
A game launcher App that set up the Govenor, Clocks and minfrees would be great!, just click in and out of 'Gaming Mode' before and after you play would be amazing! Instead you need to change it all into 'Gaming Mode' and then back to defaults or loose loads of battery!

Is it best to leave it running the interactive gov? or is it best to change between Int. and OnD. govs?
Also, Task Killer... I thought I heard once that killing everything in TK is not a great idea as thememory managemnt is pretty aggressive... plus, it's got bits running in it that I'm not 100% on, should be okay to kill it all right?...
---EDIT---
Got System Tuner, how do I actually change the Govenors?

no dont use task killer
you can use supercharge which is complicated but follow my guide to save the stock minfrees and change them on the fly using script manager widgets
or simply in System Tuner auto-kill menu you can change them on the fly
rebooting will restore the stock values
as for ondemand it best to switch back for battery when ur done
all explained in my gaming guide by the wide you just have to force yourself to read it

You experience slowdowns on HOX with Riptide GP? What's wrong? I mean, on my device with graphics maxed out the game runs silky smooth, no lags of any kind. In my opinion it may very well be the best optimized game for our device. And my HOX is still locked, unrooted and not modified in any way, I'm haven't even done the tricks hamdir has suggested in his guide. I never needed, although he does provide some sound advice. I just played a match of 3 rounds, finishing first just to check. And it only at a 3% of my battery!
Is it possible that you have loaded your Sense launcher with widgets/pages/cities or have many running background tasks that may actually cause the slowdown?

frame drops are different from slow down
@ Feregorn: The game isn't slowing down I'm loosing frames, they're different.
Slow down is when everything slows down because the CPU/GPU can't cope with what they're processing and/or get bottlenecked.
Frame Drops are what happens when the game stops showing like 100fps and drops to like 40fps, so gameplay will look less 'smooth' and may appear to 'skip' a little bit.
Atleast that's my take on it, @ Hamdir, correct me if I'm wrong?

speed remains the same just the smoothness sensation lowers as the frame the rate is reducing from 60fps to 30fps or less
Mine don't lag at all
I stand corrected then...Oww guess I'll have to live with my mistake....But although it may seem that we are talking 2 different things the gist of the matter is that while playing with Riptide on my HOX I still don't experience any framedrops/slowdowns or whatever. Game apperas to me, to run silky smooth (and I'm an experienced gamer), just like GoW 3 did on the PS3. I'm talking about THAT kind of optimization. I can't understand what in the world has made the game to have on your defice such an inferior performance that it becomes noticeable.
which firmwares do you guys have?

I have the same also. Everything stock. But on the Sense homescreen, I only have 3 pages, one with the Weather clock, google search and a birthday widget, one with the full-page music widget and one with the full page calendar widget. I've also disabled autosyncing for most of the time. Maybe these are helpful in improving overall performance???

nope, same with latest 4.0.4
Much better now that it's rooted and setCPU profiles are enabled once again F180L owner.
I actually see a really nice improvement in battery life over 4.0.4. My wakelocks are now 1/4 of what they were. My problem is CPU related - cant get up (to 1.5 ghz... Throttled down to 1.1 almost all the time)
Emm, why do you need 1.5ghz?

I am so confused by this question
Because, like many other people, I bought this phone in part for its processing power. I could have saved a lot of money by getting a slower but uncrippled phone (even stock gingerbread on my Galaxy S was 'good enough' for basic tasks). And yes, I have noticed lags since the speed has been mostly capped at 1.1ghz. I dont expect there to be full speed all the time, but I'd like it to be as snappy as possible when I am doing light activities with it, like web browsing. Why would anybody be content to have a 30% reduction in their phone's capabilities?
UPDATE: the lags I was experiencing seem to have been softare related. They appear to have disappeared after a clean install of JB and manual install of all apps from play store

Oh yeah. What is draining your battery? Is it a specific application or just the OS? If its the OS you can install Better Battery Stats and take a look at your kernel wakelock statistics.
Something wrong with your unit, cause mine one doesnt lag at all even on 700mhz with 2 cores disabled.
Also on 1.1ghz its still most powerfull CPU on the market, but its your way.
I believe you can disable thermal protection in service menu.

Thanks for your advice to check the service menu in more depth but I didnt see the option there. I wouldnt really want to disable it if I could since it does have a use (I'd rather my battery didnt overheat and explode or something ).
Unlikely that there is something wrong with my unit. The lags arent choppy, per se, but more fractional delays that werent there before the upgrade to JB. I probably would not have said anything if I hadn't seen the phone's prior behaviour. And yes, it is my way - I like things to function as they were intended regardless of whether the current performance is "good enough". Lopping off the top multiplier almost entirely seems like a crude way to regulate the operation and temperature of the phone [.. but the new information below suggests that this isnt intentional...] . If I have to compromise at some level, I will gladly take this (nearly imperceptible) loss of function for the improved battery life I am seeing in this ROM.
Update: the weird frequencies I have been seeing have been reported by others using the same rom as me. It seems to be related to the kernel.
Here we go. Just installed setcpu to show you the service settings works. Also im able to set 100% brightness whenever i want.
I used to underclock cpu on ics, but someday ive realized LTE eats battery 10x times faster, so everything ive done with setcpu is kinda useless.
So i just dont care whats going on with cpu freq since it still lighting fast.
Also JB doesnt lag even on old 1ghz devices cause of triple buffer and forced vsync. I think you still should check your phone.
p.s. Latest F180K official rom

Thanks again for your advice, although that screenshot has nothing to do with the service settings and JB does lag quite a bit on older 1 Ghz devices, as I can attest by having JB running on my Samsung Galaxy S. I reinstalled JB as cleanly as possible and manually reinstalled all my usual apps from the play store and the lags seem to have disappeared. Maybe there was a problem with my recovery softare ? I edited my earlier post to reflect this, but the change in CPU frequency is still there.
As I was trying to say before, you and I are using different phones and different roms. It seems to be a recognized quirk with the rom I am using that while the phone is unplugged, the cpu frequency and screen brightness are very heavily regulated (cannot run @ 1.5 or full brightness even while phone is cool; goes away when the phone is plugged in). Please do not start telling me that 100% brightness is as unnecessary as 100% cpu frequency (I dont ever use 100%). I think you and I will just disagree on acceptable limitations of capabilities, even if I agree with you that they dont affect normal phone use at all. I see it as a mystery that needs solving.
And I am glad to hear that your phone works so well with the official rom . I could wait for official JB on the e973 but I'm impatient and Houstonn did a great job with the port.
So your phone's service menu doesnt have the High Temperature Property and the Thermal Daemon disable buttons?
You still can ask someone to disassemble korean version service menu to find the flags so you can use it on E973

I confirm, wi-fi isn't working. Also, no synapse (and no support of it if installed from google store), no new governors, no zram in standard performance setting. And with this kernel there's only 721 MB of RAM instead of 722 MB RAM in stock! Where's my precious 1 MB of RAM? Is it gone forever? No way! I'll restore you from recovery, my dear, come to papa!
But it's booting and seems stable. A good work anyway, thanks bubor!

Factory reset, install cm-11-20140315-UNOFFICIAL-i927.zip, gk-1.2, and wifi work.

Ok, wi-fi works, camera works, OC to 1.2 Ghz works, I see new governors (testing Intellidemand at the moment, people say it should be less battery consuming than interactive), the only thing else I wish from kernel is a bit more RAM (819 MB in LiteKernel was great, but it caused camera to bug and wake lag, maybe there is a compromise?). Thanks to bubor once again!
Fast Charge support
Any chance you can add a patch to the kernel? This would add Fast Charge support.
This patch is for another device but it looks clean enough that it can be applied to ours without much work.
https://github.com/bruce2728/android_kernel_htc_pyramid/pull/1.patch
There was fast charge on LiteKernel, but it was removed for some reason. Maybe it was unstable.
Btw, I just restored an old backup of CM 10.1.3 (it's 4.2.2 ROM), flashed LiteKernel and... Asphalt 8 is working! Hey, I tried everything for couple of days to make it run on different ROMs, with different caches and apks, and the only thing that game needs is a bit more RAM? What a crap...
Is there also a chance of increasing RAM on grakernel? Sorry for my humble asking, I'm just a fan of Asphalt series, from the first game back on Symbian... I know you're doing dev work in leisure time and I'm Ukrainian with 130$ monthly salary, so can't even donate, but I very appreciate all your work here.

better use zram. Litekernel simply decreases reserved ram. Its very easy to implement to this kernel, but I think there is reason to reserve 280M memory.

But not for me. The only way I managed to launch Asphalt 8 is that 4.2.2 android with LiteKernel. When I flashed back "stock" kernel from kick buttowski, Asphalt said me: no more! Interactive governor works as it should, smooth and stable, there was no new issues, the kernel is solid when used from the box. The only thing is the need to change CPU max clock from 1320 (default) to 1000 Mhz (this should be default I think).
But I caught wi-fi bug again - I turned it off, used my phone for a some time, and after that it doesn't turn on until reboot. Still I can't find what causes this problem. May be it's somehow related to deep sleep, because I never encountered this when the phone is on charge (the phone never goes to deep sleep on charge).
And thank you bubor and grtsarav for your help! I managed to launch that Asphalt 8! Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I downloaded apk again (not the latest 13081 version, but previous 13051), downloaded cache for third time and it launched even without ramhack. It seems that latest version of Asphalt 8 on google store is simply broken on our device.

hmm by default MC5 sets itself as medium settings for our phone which works ok for me too but the lagging starts when i set the graphic option to "better" in which i want to play this game[QRCODE][/QRCODE]
I would probably go as far to say that our device just isn't powerful enough for such a high demanding game..... Maybe if over clocking a bit was possible it might help but you might be stuck like chuck with the better graphics ordeal.... If you do come across a way to smooth things out let everyone know.

In every game I have played its lagged, I decided to download some apps that showed fps and it shows applications keep varying from 60fps, then seemingly becoming locked at 50 moments later. Can anyone download an app called fps test, it has an orange circle and report back please.
This.is.normal!
It cannot be a locked 60 fps framerate. This is Android we are talking about, not iOS.
Its literally not normal though, I have a galaxy s6 and it is locked to a solid 60fps, its not an intensive app, its literally a 2d bouncing ball
Ultimately I decided that I was very dissatisfied with the performance of the HTC 10 due to this, so it's going back for a refund.
50fps FIX HERE!
Kudos to @ivicask , this issue is fixed in the latest PnP mod test build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68138407&postcount=356
Remember to select Performance Profile in aroma installer.
And remember to give ivicask a thanks click!
Problem solved.
It wasn't a particular game, it was any game I played. Especially noticeable in 2D games. I've never had this problem on the galaxy s6 or any other phone for that matter. If you want to check for me to see if its the same on all htc 10s, then download an app called fps test, it has an orange circle icon and report back what it says.

It was about 57-58 at start or with touch screen interaction(hold your finger on the screen). If you leave it be it will be throttled down to 50fps, seemingly a power saving feature(or a bug).

It seems like a very annoying power saving feature if that is truly what it is, it seems to accomplish making things feel less fluid.
Fps test app is clearly not optimised for HTC 10. Download 3DMark for more accurate results. Run on your S6 and HTC10, you'll soon leave your S6 behind. Or use your S6 to play games on the go and buy a PC/console for proper gaming.

It seems like a very annoying power saving feature if that is truly what it is, it seems to accomplish making things feel less fluid.

I've just found out that enabling high performance mode in developer options can lift the 50fps lock. Give it a try

This is not the case I'm afraid. It seems that HTC used fps lock to preserve battery life. On the contrary, HTC "optimized" for famous benchmarks like 3dmarks by loosing throttling policies.
I consider locking GPU at 50fps on a 60hz refresh rate screen is kind of a bad move.
You might need to look at CleanSlate kernel, if you are rooted You will be amazed.
Thank you for your response, yeah enabling high performance mode does seem to remove the 50fps however there are still some stutters (none of gs6 although running custom rom), and high performance mode will eat my battery. Don't suppose you know if any custom roms fix this issue?

If you root a htc and install the custom kernel, is there a way to return to stock without htc knowing that it has been rooted or whatever?

I think if you have s-off then it's possible

They cannot discover that you have rooted your phone when you return fully to stock. But they can see that your bootloader was unlocked. You can always lock it, but it wont say "locked", it will say "relocked". That shouldnt be a problem for warranty purposes imo.
I have the same problem.my HTC 10 most of the time locked at 50 fps(when I release finger from screen) and it is very unusual in flagships such as gs7 or gs6.
Maybe HTC give an update to solve this issue
I also tried high performance option but it takes a lot of battery charge.
Is there anyone else have this problem?any suggestion? I don't wanna root my device for guarantee purposes
Someone please report this issue to HTC support.

You can even get the 'locked' flag if you're S-OFF

You can disable PnPMgr if you don't want to use high performance mode to achieve the same effect. PnPMgr is HTC's proprietary power manager, disabling it may have an impact on battery life as well but looking at stats the difference isn't that huge in my case.
To disable pnpmgr, you'll need root and download a free app called "Kernel Toolkit". In the app there's a switch called "Pnpmgr" under the tab "Power", disable it.
@andy010101
long breath, here goes
HTC unlike all the previous, really put a leash on the HTC 10 SoC, remember "powerbotics" in their marketing? well it really means is Snapdragon 820 cripple, yet non of the s820 devices like G5/Mi5/OP3 suffer from this, HTC probably did this to squeeze some juice out of battery but don't we have powersaver modes for this? so why cheat...
this is whats going on stock HTC 10:
- The fourth BIG core, out of the two faster cores (which also benefit from bigger cache) will be disabled (via task migration) once battery is around 35c (which is the nominal operation temp anyway) so most of the time unless dead cold the device will be running without one of the big kryo cores, this is noticable in a multithreaded game like Dead Effect 2 which suddenly drops from 60fps range to 30 in 5 minutes
- The GPU governor is a lot more tolerant than it is on the OP3/G5/Mi5 s820 devices, its noticable in GPU loving game like Skyforce where it refuses to ramp up the GPU clocks and so the games runs at 30fps when it should be 60, also Suicide squad high graphics mode is another example
- HTC also locks to 50fps when they user is not interacting, which is discussed and sorted on this page, its a unique issue visible in games like Smash hit or games with offscreen controls
solutions for performance:
- Unlock, flash TWRP, flash EX kernel, the settings in EX are already tweaked to fix the CPU and GPU problems
- Even more you can flash the PNP mod and select performance profile (also i worked with the dev on this) to further unleash your 10 and even improve things like multitasking and standby battery life
just note if you decide to flash both EX and the mod you can set EX kernel min performance level to 0 in order for the pnp mod to take over (discussed here), otherwise without the pnp mod you need to leave EX min performance at the default 60
CleanSlate kernel is said to have the same fixes as well
happy modding the difference is day versus night in performance, Dead Effect 2, Skyforce and Suicide squad will all run in sweet 60 up to 30 minutes without a blink
If you are a stock only user and don't like what you just heard, then by all means take it to HTC, because they really deserve a nuke for this ****
HERE's THE FIX!
50fps FIX HERE!
Kudos to @ivicask :good: , this issue is fixed in the latest PnP mod test build:

Remember to select Performance Profile in aroma installer.
And remember to give ivicask a thanks click!
