GPS problem in newrom 3.9 - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i recently installed newrom 3.9 d85520s its a great rom ,but after a few days i notice that the GPS put me in diffreant places
i can turn the GPS and i will see that my location is not right
somtimes its like 50 km away from were i realy am / sometime i saw that my phone is moving in diffreant location while im sitting at home
did some one have the same problem in that rom or it might be a hardware problem ?
any advice ?
thanks
ericgr

Try some apps that update your agps like gps test or something plus from what i understand you antenna is in the back cover so make sure all the contacts are clean not bent and touching the back also try maybe making a full backup and try another rom it may be a isolated issue with ure setup and rom

thanks for the replay
is it posible that the Wireless Charger im use ing for a long time , danage my GPS antana ?

On some models. Such as mine i only have one set of pins for antenna on most the other models have 2 sets for wireless charging ic u still have orig back try your old cover

GPS Problem - all of a sudden it won't fix

Hi all,
I have some sort of problem with the GPS. Last Saturday it suddenly wouldn't get a fix at all. I tried taking the battery out and rebooting and still no joy. Then suddenly on Monday it started working again. I was on a flight on Wednesday and it worked on the flight too. About 2 hours later, I was on a train and again, no joy but put it down to maybe some strange coating on the glass. However, I tried again yesterday while out in my car and not a dickybird.
It sounds like a loose connection in the phone or something like this. Does anyone have any photos of where the GPS unit is or how to dis-assemble it to check the firmness of the connection ? Or is there any program that I can load on my TP2 to check what the GPS is actually doing ?

Having the same sort of issue with GPS on WM6.5... HTC are (well should be) working on but they have so far sent a gps test cab in the last month... which was useless... like you it will work great one minute then 'acquiring satellites' for ages... unless you have dropped and damaged radio would put the tools away for the moment as looks like software related (how WM6.5 manages GPS lock) that is the problem
I've never had a problem before and i've used it both at home and abroad. I'd use it a couple of times every week.

People have said upgrading the radio helped or used the GPS hotfix from HTC... Did this myself recently and must admit it seemed to fix the problem...
I'm running Energy ROM 23557 Sense 2.5 Maxmanilla.

Thought the GPS hotfix on HTC site was for 6.1... so it works on 6.5 as well?...was going to flash the lastest europe 6.5 (with sense 2.5) it has a later radio but have read messaging is slow for some people, as waiting for HTC to fix on Telstra 6.5 is painful

When you say you can't get a lock, is this in just one particular app, or have you tried multiple GPS-enabled apps? You may need to determine if the device actually isn't seeing any sats, or if your app just isn't playing nice with the com port anymore.
THIS LINK is for Chartcross' GPS Test (free), it can at least tell you if your hardware is getting a lock independent of any nav apps.
Excellent - exactly what I was looking for. I'll test the Chartcross software on the way home tonight.

OK, I've got a Yellow circle and it says "GPS Starting up" so obviously doesn't even start to pull down data
Any ideas on what I can do ? Could there be a loose connection somewhere inside the phone ?

Did you see it scan through the com ports when it started up? The next thing I would check is the settings (settings-all settings-system-external GPS) and see what it says on the "programs" and "access" tabs
The GPS hardware is a chip that's soldered to the motherboard, so I doubt that's come "loose"...the only other hardware connection that comes into play is the one to whatever antenna the GPS utilizes, but I honestly don't know if uses the same one as the phone/data, or if the chip itself is just a fully integrated receiver
It scanned through the ports and identified it as COM4 and set the speed to 9600. I assume the circle should go green even if the antenna was weak but would be going through the motions of acquiring data.

If it was seeing any sats, there would be bars in the screen, like the screenshot on their site...so yes it def looks like the phone isn't locking at all. Just to be sure, is your QuickGPS data up to date?
I'd say the next step to try before trying to crack your case open would be to follow ultramag's suggestion and flash to a different radio...some users report drastic improvements in GPS performance after taking that step

How long did you wait? I've noticed that it can take up to 10-15 minutes before it'll lock all of them in and turn green. Are the bars moving at all?
Was running over 30 mins and stayed yellow. Bars never budged. I've had the same radio for the past 6 months at least so can't see why it would suddenly become a problem now.
Looks like my only option might be to open it up and check the connections. Everyone drops their phones now and again and I'm no different so there's every possibility of something having come loose.
Has anyone got a photo of the inside so I know what I'm looking for ? Where is the GPS ?
C
com 4 is correct as is 9600 baud. Likely the issue is with the radio you are using. T Mobile radios seem quite touchy. Try a new radio and see what you get. Start gps test first, get the gps running and locked before opening any program that needs gps to work and you likely will have better performance.

mine was working fine and like you was doubting my hardware... seems strange as my issues started with a software update ...some telcos (Telstra in AU) software conflicts with GPS... I installed a HTC rom from Europe yesterday and GPS is now working great... even now locks while car is in garage.. the HTC Desire just released in AU is also having GPS issues on Telstra 6.5 rom ... so have you tried a rom update? as sounds like may be your issue as well...
I'm running Deepshining Rom X6. I had the previous v12RC running since it was released with no problems. I had radio 4.49.25.17 running all the time but just decided to up this to 4.49.25.77 but still no change. It still says "GPS Starting Up". I must have some sort of loose connection since it wouldn't work last Saturday or Sunday but then worked fine on Monday and Wednesday. However, it hasn't worked again since last Wednesday.

I just opened up my TP2. Is the GPS chip just to the left of the Camera ? (on the right is the Speaker)

Usually get a 1 month return policy in store. That's what there is in the UK.

I had the same problem too....
But after hard resetting I installed all the apps that I've used earlier...
The problem appears sometimes...
What apps have you installed mainly, that involves hardware control???

[Q] Camera and flash inop, no repair service

Hi everyone..
I have a problem with my Desire I'm hoping someone here can answer a few questions about.
The camera and flash have stopped working. If I launch the camera the phone just displays a black screen, back wont work and the only way out is the home button. If I launch the flashlight, everything appears OK, except it doesn't turn it on, the on screen controls are all there though and act like everything is working. Then when I'm browsing the internet or FB, the phone sometimes flashes the light.
The thing is I live in Iceland, and the service agent here sends everything HTC out to Denmark to get fixed, but since I bought my phone in Norway they cant help me. So I have no access to service on the phone.
My question is does this sound more like a hardware or software problem to you, and do you think I could fix this by rooting and installing f.x. CM7? The only other reasonable option I have is buying a new phone, which I'd rather avoid if at all possible.
Can you help?
Reflash it using the PM99IMG.zip method, it's the most efficient method to get back. If that doesn't fix it, it's a hardware issue.
What's the "branding" on your Desire?
Thanks for the answer, I'll take a look at that. It's unbranded, I bought it that way, haven't fiddled with anything yet.
<edit>
You wouldn't be able to point me to where I can get some information on the PM99IMG.zip method, would you?
Get the RUU from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869048
Then go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275632
Read this section "[7]RUU WITHOUT USB CONNECTION"
If you're not rooted, you probably have "IF YOU'RE S-ON, START FROM [PHASE2]"
By the way, read that entire thread. it has a lot of good info.

Well you can try with just the EXE, maybe it'll work. and you may have to make a gold card.

How to fix D850 with network problems..?? "RF CALL INFO" status is "not ok(default)"!

How to fix D850 with network problems..?? "RF CALL INFO" status is "not ok(default)"!
Hey my friends! i am new in this forum. i bought a LG D855 from Aliexpress and when i received the package and check the D855 i figure out that the hardware belong to the D850 and the software belong to D855. The device was fine except that the signal is constantly lost or up and down a problematic way it difficult to use the device! and does not allow to spend and receive calls normally, and no matter how I tried to fix the problem with change the networks(every option in WCDMA/LTE/GSM networks) or change SIM card to new one and make sure that my SIM is working in other devices or even to install applications that booster the signal of the mobile network! I sent the device to a lab that confirmed that is D850 and they flash other ROM (cloudy 1.2 for D850) and tried to fix the network issues but without success. i can to make or received calls or use internet but many times the signal is too weak or lost so i cant to make a call and sometimes the signal bar shows that there is a good signal but i still cant to make calls or use mobile internet. i entered to the hidden menu(3845#*850#) and discovered that the RF CALL INFO have a "NOT OK(DEFAULT)" status! other G3 or even G2 i checked have "OK" status..maybe this is the problem? how to fix it? thank you very much :good::good:
please help...i tried to return the phone but seller dont want..
someone know somtething??
???
The seller sold a defectively rooted phone they should have to accept it back unless u rooted it and flashed wro g software but u make it sound like it came that way
---------- Post added at 11:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:39 PM ----------
I would bave the iemi checked just to make sure its a legit g3 and not blacklisted
is its came like this. i fix the RF CALL INFO isuue and now after i flashed Cloudy 2.5 ROM the status is OK.
but this thing didnt fix the network problem..i think this is hardware isuue and i need to replace the network IC or the power amplifier IC..maybe they are the source of the network problem. how much usually cost to replace this parts? 70$ its good price? thank you!
Id try to do the restore to stock method tot and start over from there
i already flashed stock rom. i tried every software option. the problem probably is hardware thing..maybe the power amplifier IC..because the signal is crazy all the time..lost and come back down and up ..i can to make calls or use mobile internet sometimes but most of time the device without signal or searching..
