Reboot after copy to System/app - Desire 820 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I rooted my HTC Desire 820. But something must have gone wrong, because whenever i use" es explorer" to copy musicfx.apk to the system/app folder the phone just reboots.
The app has root explorer on so as an un-experienced user I am running into a dead end.
Can someone please help me to get this solved so i can install in the system folder.
Or does someone have a solution to get an working equalizer on the phone?
=> the normal equalizer apps from the store don't always work as they sometimes just don't seem to change sound.
As for the build in "boomsound", well it is pretty **** on my phone, bass turns into cracking noise and the highs are to damm high. (Working with sennheiser urbanites and sennheiser 300 CX II so I think its not the hardware)
Thanks in advance

If ur device on s-on, u can't make system app from es file manager.. if u want make musicfx.apk or any app as a system app then copy apps in system app folder and give the permission (rw-r-r) in twrp recovery mode.
In recovery mode first mount system,
Then file manager..

I did that but now when i reboot from recovery (any of the 4 modes) I get rebooted into the recovery part again. There is no way out.
Needed a Factory reset(restore didn't work either)

This bug in the recovery...
Power off ur device from the reboot option and leave it for 1or 2 minutes..then plug the chrger then power on ur device
If this is not worked..
Press volume+and volume-and power button after some time screen goes black and then release the both volumes button nd keep pressing the power button try this mant time..

Try this, download aroma file manager zip file.
save apk files in sd card
now flash aroma zip file in recovery mode and it'll open a file manager. now just locate and copy the apk file from your sd card and paste it to system apps folder in root dictionary. Now reboot your phone and check app list. :fingers-crossed:

Thank you for the reply!
I tried for several hours but I just can't get the specific app to work. Might be a wrong app for my phone. I don't know. So I tried to get the beats audio, which I was used to, and loved with the sennheiser urbanite, from my HTC one x+ on to the HTC 820. This worked (altought it can't be turned off).
Sound is good now but once every reboot the OS tells me " MusicFX(the first apk) has stopped working". I can't seem to find any app through play store, app manager, file manager, that carries this name.
I will make a new post of this problem.

There is no need for that anymore. I got the EQ I was used to installed on the HTC 820. But thank you for willing to help me out!
But I ran into a problem linked to my failed attempt of installing Musicfx.
It is described over here :

Maybe you have an idea?

I tried that to. But when i came at a step that said, "open viper and it will ask for update, run update" it just said it could not find one. Then it said the phone doesn't have BUSYBOX yet(wich it had).
Anyway,I had connection and followed all the steps of the guide(link below).
But when the step using busy box came up, pressing the instal button in the app made the phone reboot instantly.
Could this have anything to do with s-on/off?

[Q] Launcher question and I did my research

Hey guys i was wondering if there was an apk for the MIUI launcher b/c i really enjoy that launcher but it is unstable right now so if I can get a launcher that would be awesome.
I don't know but ill tell you how to get it. Download miui and then unzip the rom. Go to /system/app and look for an apk named launcher or something similar.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
do I extract the file then copy it to my sd card then install from there?
Thanks so much if this works and if it doesn't thanks for the idea!
I just tried it and all i got was "! application not installed" should i try to zip it and flash it? or is there any other route i can take?
Yeah you can push it to /system/app using adb, or copy and paste with root explorer, or make a flashable zip file.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I am a big time noob, so what is the easiest way to do it. I have never used any of these routes and how do you zip a file so that it is flashable? thanks again so much for your help your are super helpful.
so i tried copying and pasting using root explorer and it did not work, i get a message saying "you cannot paste here becaue the file system is read only"

In the upper right corner there I'd a bottom theft says mount rw(read/write) push that then try to paste there, but a lot of the time that will not work so if it does not you can use adb. you plug your phone in with debugging on, place your apk in your sdk tools folder.
My sdk tooks folder is located at c:/androidsdk/tools and say the apk you are using the launcher.apk so i would open the cmd and use the following commands.
cd c:/androidsdk/tools
adb remount
adb push launcher.apk system/app
adb reboot
After each command wait till its done after last command your phone will reboot.

not sure why it would be force closing unless it a bad apk if you find another apk you can open the zip up with 7-zip and replace the old one with the new one and close do not unzip it just open

[Q] Flashable Bootanimation.

Are there any flashable boot animations for the DHD?
and in particular, the droid x boot?
if there isn't could someone please tell me how to change mine to this? with links to the files? or a link to a flashable zip?
You don't need to flash them... just use Root Explorer and drop "bootanimation.zip" in \data\local
For the actual animations just search the Themes section in the Desire HD forum. You can also look in the Themes sections for original Desire as most of them should work too. I'm sure someone will have ported the Droid X one, if not try looking in the Themes sections of the Droid X forum... you get the idea

Extract the zip file for the boot sound as it's the .mp3 you need to use. Bootanim stays as .zip
Reply back know how you get on / if you need any help etc.
Oh, and be sure to press the "Mount R/W" when in the correct folder in Root Explorer. Wont let you change anything otherwise

wow I feel stupid. I was using the temp files from the top of the list in my sdcard XD thank you.
oh wait it didn't work xD I have bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 in data/ local and it doesn't work. i've rebooted twice since they've been there. what else am I doing wrong ?
Try the two files I have attached and see if they work. You will need to extract the zip for the start sound as it wouldn't let me attach the mp3. Also, you will have to rename the other zip from black_bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip. I have loads of them so need to keep the file names different.
Reboot and they should work
Still no luck. even with your files, in data/local with r/w it just won't work? is it something to do with me being on the stock rom, kernel and radio?
I don't know but this is really weird ? could it be a permissions thing? thank you so much for trying to help me though.
it couldn't be that i'm using a mac could it?
No probs man
I've never had a poke around inside a stock ROM for DHD but I expect the files still go in the same place, so it must be a permissions thing as I doubt it would be radio or kernal related.
Silly question I should have maybe asked earlier... you have a rooted phone right? If not none of this will work!
As for a being on a Mac, shouldn't make a difference as you can transfer all the stuff to /data/local/ on your phone... only need a computer to put the files on your SD card if you didn't download them with your phone.
haha yes my phone is definitely rooted, I'm pretty sure I have radio and engineering S-OFF, I had SHIP, now I have ENG, I would really like to know what the problem is though.
would it be possible to fix the permissions ? should I use rom manager to fix them ? or do it manually in root explorer?
If it is a permission problem, rom manager's fix permissions option did not solve the problem.
It would be so much easier just having a flashable zip xD
You could give it a go with ROM Manager yeah.
I must admit, I'm stumped with this! I bet it's something really easy that we're both overlooking!
rom manager didn't work.
it has to be something obvious. I would flash a new rom, but then I need to flash a new radio, because last time I ran leedroid, and android revolution HD, my microphone wouldn't work so I had to restore my backup.
having to do all that just for a boot animation and sound would be such a pain.
Well I'm going to sleep, most likely, and hopefully someone will have worked something out by the time i get back or wake up.
You could push it with adb.

Or another option is that your current rom just does not read bootanimation from /data/local/. Try it with custom rom, or put it to /system/.. I do not remember which folder. But look for bootanimation.zip.

I found bootanimation, not .zip but i can't make the system file r/w only r/o
after much trial and error, i found it at last....
@P1xelVandal in case you had not installed any custom ROM then the original bootanimation.zip can be found in the following location:
/system/customize/resource
Rename the original one to bootanimation_bak.zip before replacing in case any error occurs.
And, of course, you have to mount the file system in R/W mode for the changes to take place.. worked fine for me... piece of cake now.
Bump...
I've also just read somewhere that you could try /system/customize/resource/
Let us know how you get on mate
I gave up and flashed a radio and Android Revolution HD. It works fine now. Thank you for helping

Accidentally deleted stock Task Manager!!

So i just installed the new BM 5.0 and i was deleting unwanted apps via Titanium Backup pro .. i was doing it so fast that i accidentally deleted task manager! now everytime i click on the widget "Active Application" it fore closes! i tried to look for the stock task manager in the app store but could not find it! is there a way to undo the delete without doing a nandroid restore?
Use the feature in Titanium that can pull apks from cwm backups. You should be able to fix it with that.

To install it, you'll need a file explorer with root access (ES File Explorer, ROOT File Explorer, etc.). Then you'll have to move it to /system/app (to get to /system you'll have to go one level up from /sdcard to get to the root folder /). Make the permissions read "rw- r-- r--" (how you do that depends on what file explorer you use) and then reboot. Should fix the issue.

It'll be an option in root explorer along the lines of "root access". I don't know the exact process because I use ES. Play around in the settings of root explorer until you find it. By default it's disabled to prevent users from actually screwing with their system operating system without knowing what they're doing.

Was it working fine when you first installed it? Either way, there's always 5 generic steps you should always take first when trying to resolve an issue:
1) clear application data
2) reboot to recovery and clear cache
3) clear dalvik cache
4) fix permissions
5) reboot
See if that fixes your issues

Now all I did was I took Christian Tailor's bootanimation which was 1080p and converted it into 720p which will fit perfectly on S3 or any 720p devices.

Install Instructions:
1. Your device need to be rooted. It won't work if your device is not rooted. How to root? Please check online. I hope samsung device users have custom rom with root and not stock rom with root. I have no idea how it works in other brand android devices, so proceed only if it is similar process as you find below.
2. This is not a flashable file, so you have to copy it into your system/media .
3. Use X-plore, make sure you have root access. To get root access, press configuration. Under Root access, select superuser + mount writable. I only know how to do this in xplore, i don't know how it works in other apps. So sorry. I will let you know how it works in other apps.
4. Now go to root/system/media and you will find bootanimation.zip . Copy it to your internal/external memory.
5. Delete the bootanimation.zip from system/media.
6. Now copy the dcmarvel720pbootanimation.zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation.zip .
7. Now reboot your device.
8. Now Enjoy.
[By the way, I really don't know if I was allowed to post this or not. If I was not allowed, please comment here, and also I am sorry, I will remove it as soon as possible. If I am allowed then thank you. Please support the original people who did it.]
Hi. Good job bro. But, Can you tell how to install this? I tried via recovery and it failed... Tried putting in system/media and rebooted but the previous boot animation is still showing. I renamed the old bootanimation.zip first before trying.
Thanks

In system/media, remove the previous boot animation. Either delete it or just copy it to your internal memory, but you will have to delete it in your system/media. Now save the dc-marvel bootanimation zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation.zip
Now try rebooting. Hope it worked.

Update : was using Cm11 theme before and this seemed to be the cause.restored the theme to default and placed the boot animation to system/media and it worked like a charm.
Thank you again
Very cool, but why must it call me a mother****er when I install it?

Hmmm, when I replace the original bootanimation.zip with the Superhero one and restart, I only get flashing "android" text in the middle of the screen, it's animated so something is happening... but no heroes. Curious. Any ideas?
Thanks for bringing this to the forums btw and resizing it
EDIT: Found out why, I needed to change the permissions to rw-r-r

It did yes, I used ES file explorer (make it have root permissions) and if you go to more > properties permissions > change and set it to rw-r-r, the bootanimation then works
Haha, it's awesome! The size is a bit big, but that's not a problem. Thanks! :victory:
Didn't work for me?

are you rooted? also are you using a custom rom?
it only works if you use both root and a custom rom,
as said in the instructions, make sure you have given superuser mount writable permissiom. Either delete the bootanimation.zip from you system/media or copy the bootanimation.zip to your internal memory or external memory if available.
now copy paste the dcmarvelbootanimation.zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation [make sure it is still in zip format which means it is .zip]
now try rebooting.

Working On Rooted Galaxy S3 4.3
Hi I managed to get it working on my galaxy s3 jellybean 4.3 (rooted, stock rom)
1. Put the file on your sd card
2.Open root explorer (or some sort of similar app)
3. under System/media move old bootanimation over to external SD card (or remove)
4. Find new bootanimation file, move to data/local
5. Rename file to bootanimation
6.change permissions to rw-r--r--
Restart phone and enjoy

I renamed the zip to bootanimation.zip and copied it to root/system/media.
but I am only getting an android logo as the boot animation, nothing like the stuff shown here.
I am rooted and unofficial cm12.
