Are there any flashable boot animations for the DHD?
and in particular, the droid x boot?
if there isn't could someone please tell me how to change mine to this? with links to the files? or a link to a flashable zip?
You don't need to flash them... just use Root Explorer and drop "bootanimation.zip" in \data\local
For the actual animations just search the Themes section in the Desire HD forum. You can also look in the Themes sections for original Desire as most of them should work too. I'm sure someone will have ported the Droid X one, if not try looking in the Themes sections of the Droid X forum... you get the idea

Extract the zip file for the boot sound as it's the .mp3 you need to use. Bootanim stays as .zip
Reply back know how you get on / if you need any help etc.
Oh, and be sure to press the "Mount R/W" when in the correct folder in Root Explorer. Wont let you change anything otherwise

wow I feel stupid. I was using the temp files from the top of the list in my sdcard XD thank you.
oh wait it didn't work xD I have bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 in data/ local and it doesn't work. i've rebooted twice since they've been there. what else am I doing wrong ?
Try the two files I have attached and see if they work. You will need to extract the zip for the start sound as it wouldn't let me attach the mp3. Also, you will have to rename the other zip from black_bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip. I have loads of them so need to keep the file names different.
Reboot and they should work
Still no luck. even with your files, in data/local with r/w it just won't work? is it something to do with me being on the stock rom, kernel and radio?
I don't know but this is really weird ? could it be a permissions thing? thank you so much for trying to help me though.
it couldn't be that i'm using a mac could it?
No probs man
I've never had a poke around inside a stock ROM for DHD but I expect the files still go in the same place, so it must be a permissions thing as I doubt it would be radio or kernal related.
Silly question I should have maybe asked earlier... you have a rooted phone right? If not none of this will work!
As for a being on a Mac, shouldn't make a difference as you can transfer all the stuff to /data/local/ on your phone... only need a computer to put the files on your SD card if you didn't download them with your phone.
haha yes my phone is definitely rooted, I'm pretty sure I have radio and engineering S-OFF, I had SHIP, now I have ENG, I would really like to know what the problem is though.
would it be possible to fix the permissions ? should I use rom manager to fix them ? or do it manually in root explorer?
If it is a permission problem, rom manager's fix permissions option did not solve the problem.
It would be so much easier just having a flashable zip xD
You could give it a go with ROM Manager yeah.
I must admit, I'm stumped with this! I bet it's something really easy that we're both overlooking!
rom manager didn't work.
it has to be something obvious. I would flash a new rom, but then I need to flash a new radio, because last time I ran leedroid, and android revolution HD, my microphone wouldn't work so I had to restore my backup.
having to do all that just for a boot animation and sound would be such a pain.
Well I'm going to sleep, most likely, and hopefully someone will have worked something out by the time i get back or wake up.
You could push it with adb.

Yeah, that's definitely another option.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Or another option is that your current rom just does not read bootanimation from /data/local/. Try it with custom rom, or put it to /system/.. I do not remember which folder. But look for bootanimation.zip.

I found bootanimation, not .zip but i can't make the system file r/w only r/o
after much trial and error, i found it at last....
@P1xelVandal in case you had not installed any custom ROM then the original bootanimation.zip can be found in the following location:
/system/customize/resource
Rename the original one to bootanimation_bak.zip before replacing in case any error occurs.
And, of course, you have to mount the file system in R/W mode for the changes to take place.. worked fine for me... piece of cake now.
Bump...
I've also just read somewhere that you could try /system/customize/resource/
Let us know how you get on mate
I gave up and flashed a radio and Android Revolution HD. It works fine now. Thank you for helping

So here is my thing, I want a custom splash screen and boot animation but I'm running into a problem. Everytime I try to flash it using
fastboot flash splash1 evosplash1.rgb565 I get the error (failed: no remote access) or something like that.
I found out it's because my hboot is 2.10......
but I am unable to downgrade from what I have seen because my readout from adb shell is that I have the 40000 block build or something like that and because i have that build I cant downgrade and because I cant downgrade I cant have a custom splash page and boot animation.
Any ideas?
It isn't at all true that you can't have a custom splashscreen or boot animation. You can either find a flashable zip of the boot animation you want to use and flash it via recovery, or you can manually place it in the correct folder and set permissions using Root Explorer. The location of the boot animation is dependent on the rom. If it isn't flashable, it needs to be named exactly bootanimation.zip in order for it to work once you've put it in the correct folder. I usually just rename the old one and leave it there in case I decide I don't like the new one.
Splashscreens, and I might be wrong about this because I've never used a custom one, can be loaded as a PC36IMG in the bootloader. I believe there are a small handful of them that can be flashed in recovery.
Hopefully someone that actually knows something about splash screens will chime in, since I'm afraid I may be giving out bad information when it comes to that.

Thank you for your insight. The issue I'm running into is I can't figure out how to get into the folder to place the boot animation. With the hboot being 2.10..... it won't let me change anything in there.

Your hboot has nothing to do with it, you need to boot into the rom and do it there. You can use Root Explorer to copy/cut and paste the boot animation into the correct folder. Rename the existing one to something else, you'll need to mount as r/w by tapping the button near the top that says "mount r/w". After you've moved the new boot animation and renamed it properly (if needed), you will need to set the permissions to match the old one. You can do this by long pressing the file and selecting permissions from the list. Then mount as r/o the same way you mounted r/w. When you've finished, reboot.
You should see your new boot animation
If you don't have Root Explorer, I would suggest buying it - it will come in handy. You can also use EStrongs and I believe File Expert has an option for root access. In ES File Explorer, you have to enable root functions in settings. I don't know if you can mount r/w through the app and it may not operate the same as my directions, but it's free. For root file actions, Root Explorer is just more polished in my opinion and well worth the money.

Well, that 'man,' is actually a lady, and a good one too. Working on another gold star.
And it needs to be SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3 [yes, its case sensitive.] And try renaming the animation to just bootanimation. Are you on an aosp or sense rom?
Sorry mam, not man lol. Wish my ol lady was that technical lol.
I'm on sense, I didn't know if I shuld try to rename it to just bootanimation.zip or not since the rom's animationwas spc_anmation.zip and it was all in lowercase as well. I'll try the upper on the audio though.

Well with gaining the skill, comes time, lol.
Well its been since 'nam since I ran sense, though I keep the kingdom rom as my sense rom. For the audio, with the SPC in caps, that should work, and the same for the just bootanimation.zip as well.
Ok, so the mp3 wasin format SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3 and I set the permissions the same as the bootanimation. Could it be because it is just the audio file, not a zip with the text file in it?

Well the audio file is just that, just the file .mp3. It may have been because they weren't formatted/named correctly.
So here is where I am. I have the boot animation working flawlessly and have successfully changed it to 4 different animations without problem. Sound is still the problem. Here is what I have tried.
SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3
spc_bootanimation_final.m3
SPC_bootanimation.mp3
spc_bootanimation.mp3
SPC_bootsound_final.mp3
spc_bootsound_final.mp3
SPC_bootsound.mp3
spc_bootsound.mp3
I have it in the same folder as the animation (system/customize/resource) with the same permissions (Readwner, group, others...Write: group)
I'm at a loss, everything should work but still no sound.
You should have SPC_animation_final.mp3 in the system/customize/resources folder, and nothing?
Nope, nothing. I have played the file just to make sure it has sound and it does. I also tried moving it to system/media as android_audio.mp3 as was suggessted in another thread with nothing. Now boot sound worked with the stock rom, aybe from flashing it, it changed the audio setting maybe? I'm gonna try and change that real quick and see if it works.
Ok so I'm not getting it, all sounds are completely up. The only thing I ca figure is maybe somewhere in the rom it has been blocked/disabled for sounds at bootup. That's the only thing I can think of.
I am having trouble installing the new Prime Boot annimation..
i flashed the zip but nothing happens .. the same boot annimation that came with the rom is still there.. ?
Unless specified...you don't flash a the bootanimation.zip. Using a program like Root Explorer navigate to the System-Media folder and rename the stock bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.bak. That way if you ever want to go back to stock just change the end to .zip.
Then, copy the bootani you want to change to into that same folder. If you're using Root Explorer...long press on the file and change permissions to RW-R-R. Reboot and enjoy your new boot animation.
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/10/08/download-nexus-prime-boot-animation/
The boot animation from the Nexus Prime aka Galaxy Nexus that was teased to us earlier in the week is now available for everyone to play with. The instructions we have are for flashing in Clockwork Recovery, but if you aren’t rooted, you will have to do it the old fashioned way by extracting and moving the bootanimation.zip into /data/local or wherever your particular phone pulls media from.
Sexy, isn’t it?
Download: Nexus_Prime_Boot.zip
Instructions:
1. Download the file from above an drop it on your SD card.
2. Reboot your phone into recovery.
3. Choose “install zip from sd card.”
4. ”Choose zip from sd card.”
5. Select the file you downloaded from above.
6. Once it finishes running choose “Go Back” and then reboot!

Boot animations that are appropriately formatted will work with your phone. The boot animation is not dependent on your kernel, so yes it will.

Try system/customize/resource then. You might have to rename it VZW_bootanimation. Whatever it is rename it that. Just installed it. Its actually pretty cool. Theyre getting better at not sucking when it comes to bootanimations.

Hi!
I've made a StarGate Bootanimation for Galaxy S II. (for Android 2.3.5)
Thanks to crispixfr for the original version (for SGS1).
Actually i resized his version, replaced its sound (the original was too dull), and updated the script for SGS2 Android 2.3.5.
Install:
First of all you have to unrar the two parts. -i had to split the .ZIP with rar because xda forum allows only 8MB attachments.
After that:
a) Install With ClockWorkMod
OR:
b) Install with root explorer (extract the .zip and paste the bootanimation.zip in system/media and PowerOn.wav in system/etc)
I recommend to increase the system volume to maximum for real experience.
(Settings>Sound settings>Volume>System volume)
Previews:
great animation. Have it also in my SGS1. The problem wich i have, is that the sound of locking symbols is to fast.... But maybe our gs2 is to damn fast.
best regards
PS. also i have a power on and off from Transformes wich i love have them on every phone that i own (glad to share with you guys)

Maybe your phone plays the video slower than mine.
no no..you got me wrong...IT MATCH..but it plays fast then i used to sgs1. in sgs1 is more like in the movie (but i think is about that in sgs1 it take longer to boot).
it's like 1.2.3.4.5.6.7 done but no issues about sync video/audio
Looks good will give this a go i was getting a bit bored of the Galaxy Nexus boot animation anyway
Thanks you for to have updating my boot animation !!! Crispix is the best !!! And you too now lol

As i have said in the first post: First of all you have to unrar the two parts.
So there is only ONE ZIP file, which you'll have after extracting the RAR files.
After that, you only have to flash the extracted ZIP file!

Put ur file onto multiupload ;-)
Directly from my SGS II using xda premium
Sometimes is not working the regular method (trough CWM). You need to push the files manually.
Choose a file explorer wich can gain read writte rights on system folder (personaly i use root explorer).
Step 1. Unzip the zip file wich doesn't work trough CWM flash, and you will obtain several folders (system/media wich contain bootanimation.zip) and etc/ wich contain PowerOn.wav. Copy this files in a folder inside your internal sdcard or external sdcard. Mainly you are interested on bootanimation.zip and PowerOn.wav
Step2. With file explorer mount with R/W the system folder and copy the bootanimation.zip from your folder to your /system/media folder. If you allready have a bootanimation.zip there, it will be overwritted.
Step 3. With file explorer mount R/W the etc folder, and copy from your folder PowerOn.wav to your etc folder.
Step 4. Reboot. Enjoy.
I think the same steps are also for the other kernels wich use the sanim.zip.
I don't remember in what folder is stored, but it will be like, rename the extracted bootanimation.zip to sanim.zip, and copy the new file to the respective folder. The poweron.wav is going to the etc folder.
If you have a copy error please check if you have read/writte rights on that folder. For default you have Read Only rights.
Hope that helps, and all credits go to the OP for this great animation.
best regards
This is a great animation.
Running on Checkrom Rev 3.1.1 with Green Monkey theme.
Thanks for the effort.
well done

1. Download the animation, re-name it to bootanimation
2. Place it on the root of your sd card, using a root file explorer [es file explorer, root explorer, ect] move it to /system/media and overwrite the existing one
3. Use a file manager to explore your sd card. You'll see a folder called clockwork if on cwm recovery, or nandroid if on amon ra. Open then folder and you'll see all your backups. Simply delete the ones you don't want

i went to date /local/using root explorer and get 3 folders one folder says parent folder second folder says download third folder says tmp now i go to systems and i see a folder called bootanimation.zip is that the folder im doing it as i type to you
You're in /system/media? What is the path exactly?
root eplorere its mounted as r/o i go to system and i see bootanimation .zip and i scroll down to media and if i open media i see audio bootanimation than bootanimation.zip than cod-bootanimation-aosp which is the bootanimation i want on my evo than gadget than lockscreen and so on

You need to delete the original bootanimation.zip, then rename cod-bootanimation-aosp to bootanimation [should still be .zip], reboot, and you should be good.
the cod bootanimation-aosp does not say zip next to it .does that mean its not zipped ? how do i know the bootanimation.zip is the original one ?
looking at the bootanimation folders i have about 3 folders with the name bootanimation if i long press the folder it saids i can zip the folder

Also make sure you're mounted as r/w. Long press it and hit rename, it should still be .zip, just doesn't show on the preview. Then do what I said previously.
i just switched it to r/w and i can only find the bootanimation file under s/d card and when i open the folder this is what it shows five files 1 file is parent folder 2 folder DS-STORE THIRD FILE ANDROID FOURTH FILE BOOTANIMATION.ZIP FIFTH FILE DESC.TXT WHEN I CLICK ON FOURTH FILE WHICH IS BOOTANIMATION.ZIP I GET THIS PARENT FOLDER TWO DS-STORE FOLDERS THAT HAVE A LITTLE YELLOW STAR ON THEM .NEXT FOLDER META-NF AND SYSTEM HOW CAN I START THE PROCESS FROM SCRATCH
I was following some guy called zeromax on youtube .i did what he said to do and still not worked
Well you saw all those folders because you opened the bootanimation.zip zip, which you don't need to.
1. from the sd card, copy the renamed cod bootanimation, that has been renamed to bootanimation.zip
2. go to /system/media, delete the bootanimation.zip in there
3. paste your bootanimation.zip in its place, done.

My post 2 above is the 'restart' from the beginning.
On MIUI you apply boot animations through the Theme Manager. You can either pm me a link to the animation and I'll make you a mtz to apply through theme manager, or you can follow the normal directions. If you do it the same way you would do it on any other rom, you have to go into theme manager afterwards and reapply the default animation. You would do so by going to customize at the bottom of the main screen, then choose boot animation and select the default one. You may need to choose another before you're given the option to apply the default. If you don't have one then youcan download one from the theme manager.
MIUI is different from other roms in many ways, but theming is much easier as well. If you ever need help getting certain things working on MIUI, feel free to pm me. I've been running it for over six months and know it better than I know stock Android or Sense.
Edit: You can also place the boot animation in /data/system/theme/boots, name it bootanimation.zip, set permissions to rw-r--r--, and reboot. Applying through theme manager is easiest if you're not familiar with modifying system files. As I already mentioned, I'd be happy to make an mtz for you.

You can add the boot sound through the Theme Manager. If you have the mp3, open theme manager. Select customize at the bottom, select boot sound, then choose the music app to find the sound.
I replied to your pm, do you still need me to make the theme? It's best to have the theme on hand. It'll take less than 15 minutes for me to make it, so if you want it just respond to my pm. I get notification that way, I might forget to check the thread.

British graphic designer Christian Tailor created this awesome animation of stylized Marvel and DC Comics heroes and villains, and now you can use it as the boot animation on your Android device.
It was later turned into default start up animation by Brian Roberts
HTML:

and later into a flashable zip by Ronald Valdes

.
Now all I did was I took Christian Tailor's bootanimation which was 1080p and converted it into 720p which will fit perfectly on S3 or any 720p devices.

Install Instructions:
1. Your device need to be rooted. It won't work if your device is not rooted. How to root? Please check online. I hope samsung device users have custom rom with root and not stock rom with root. I have no idea how it works in other brand android devices, so proceed only if it is similar process as you find below.
2. This is not a flashable file, so you have to copy it into your system/media .
3. Use X-plore, make sure you have root access. To get root access, press configuration. Under Root access, select superuser + mount writable. I only know how to do this in xplore, i don't know how it works in other apps. So sorry. I will let you know how it works in other apps.
4. Now go to root/system/media and you will find bootanimation.zip . Copy it to your internal/external memory.
5. Delete the bootanimation.zip from system/media.
6. Now copy the dcmarvel720pbootanimation.zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation.zip .
7. Now reboot your device.
8. Now Enjoy.
[By the way, I really don't know if I was allowed to post this or not. If I was not allowed, please comment here, and also I am sorry, I will remove it as soon as possible. If I am allowed then thank you. Please support the original people who did it.]
Hi. Good job bro. But, Can you tell how to install this? I tried via recovery and it failed... Tried putting in system/media and rebooted but the previous boot animation is still showing. I renamed the old bootanimation.zip first before trying.
Thanks

In system/media, remove the previous boot animation. Either delete it or just copy it to your internal memory, but you will have to delete it in your system/media. Now save the dc-marvel bootanimation zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation.zip
Now try rebooting. Hope it worked.

Update : was using Cm11 theme before and this seemed to be the cause.restored the theme to default and placed the boot animation to system/media and it worked like a charm.
Thank you again
Very cool, but why must it call me a mother****er when I install it?

Hmmm, when I replace the original bootanimation.zip with the Superhero one and restart, I only get flashing "android" text in the middle of the screen, it's animated so something is happening... but no heroes. Curious. Any ideas?
Thanks for bringing this to the forums btw and resizing it
EDIT: Found out why, I needed to change the permissions to rw-r-r

It did yes, I used ES file explorer (make it have root permissions) and if you go to more > properties permissions > change and set it to rw-r-r, the bootanimation then works
Haha, it's awesome! The size is a bit big, but that's not a problem. Thanks! :victory:
Didn't work for me?

are you rooted? also are you using a custom rom?
it only works if you use both root and a custom rom,
as said in the instructions, make sure you have given superuser mount writable permissiom. Either delete the bootanimation.zip from you system/media or copy the bootanimation.zip to your internal memory or external memory if available.
now copy paste the dcmarvelbootanimation.zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation [make sure it is still in zip format which means it is .zip]
now try rebooting.

Working On Rooted Galaxy S3 4.3
Hi I managed to get it working on my galaxy s3 jellybean 4.3 (rooted, stock rom)
1. Put the file on your sd card
2.Open root explorer (or some sort of similar app)
3. under System/media move old bootanimation over to external SD card (or remove)
4. Find new bootanimation file, move to data/local
5. Rename file to bootanimation
6.change permissions to rw-r--r--
Restart phone and enjoy

I renamed the zip to bootanimation.zip and copied it to root/system/media.
but I am only getting an android logo as the boot animation, nothing like the stuff shown here.
I am rooted and unofficial cm12.
