Serious question.
Personally I'm becoming pretty OCD with my phone and its defects (or lack of). My girlfriend claims not to be able to see the flicker, or the gap near the screen.
I think my obsession with having a perfect device is stopping me enjoying the phone fully.

You will see faults without having to look for them, they will be obvious, so relax and enjoy your phone
No. I'm just using my phone like the vast majority of people.
I know what you mean, and it kind of ruined the experience of the 'new phone' feeling for me.
Got my second HOX today. Found a very vaguely present yellow bar on the screen on the top. Still doesn't feel as good.
It just sucks to know your phone has flaws, or could potentially develop those over time.
Nope I'm not looking for defects at all, if something goes wrong and I notice it then I will look into it but I won't meticulously inspect the device that's for sure.
Only defect I have is the flickering on light grey colors and such.........really a pain in the ass now and makes me OCD about it.
Battery life has also been sub-par.....to say I'm satisfied and happy with the device. I'd say like a 50% because battery life is really annoying.....it's worse than my Galaxy Nexus by a good amount and the Galaxy Nexus wasn't even amazing with battery life (but it was pretty darn good).

everyone SHOULD look for defects. I only would have accepted the issues the One X has on a low budget device. Some people simply can't see stuff like this. It's like when I try to show people the difference with video playback on a display/tv/projector in 24hz compared to 60hz to show the stutter/jitter few people can see it. I see it really clear.
I always look for defects, and i hate my self for it, because stupid things like maybe a tiny lager gab with probably doesn't mean a S....
I work for a Danish Operator and in the last 7 days i've sold MANY ONE X... the last 4 days i looked closer one every ONE X when preparing them for the customers...
And guess what over 50% of the ones i sold had a tiny tiny larger gab between the screen and polycarbonat cover, so tiny larger that i need to hold it directly to the sun or really bright light to see it...
when i look back almost every model i can think of by HTC had a small difference around the screen and cover. even my previous Galaxy Nexus actually all three of them..
so right now i have my ONE X with a tiny larger gab at top, display with NO flicker but a tiny bit warmer white colored screen...
would i exchange it NO not this time, the next may have flicker or something els that annoys me a bit...
I don't think i can recall that i EVER had a perfect product...
hmm when i think of it thats not true.. my ONE S is perfect so why do i prefer ONE X, I really don't know..
ONE S seems faster in every day use, the material is nicer... but hey it's because it SO perfect thats make me keep my ONE X... or probably the larger screen
Simple. Don't ever expect a perfect device and be happy for what it is.

Hey there
I have been a long time HTC One M7 user and I must say this is the best phone I ever had (and I switch phones a lot), it is perhaps the only device I never thought about changing until the M8 came out.
I have Sense 6 on my M7 and it is smooth and snappy, and to be honest everything about the device is spectacular, except for a couple of things;
1) The battery life is not that good. I am a long time user and I know exactly what to do in order to maintain a decent battery life, but in general the battery's capacity is kind of small for a device with an intense display like that.
2) The camera after the sun goes away is pretty AWFUL. It has this purple tint which completely ruins night pictures, and the flash isn't as strong as to make that go away. Does the M8 have that purple hue? Some people claim their M7 has a green hue instead of purple, so what about the M8? This could definitely affect my purchasing decision because it's a waste when you have such a good camera in your hands.
3) IS it easy to modify the device in terms of going S-OFF, rooting, installing recovery, changing CID and MID, and such or did it not reach that phase yet?
4) Is it a lot faster than the M7? My device never actually lagged, but I am guessing if the M8 is even faster that would be just tremendous.
5) What about overheating issues? My M7 used to overheat back in the day before I started becoming a mild rather than heavy user. It still does when I install a new ROM and start restoring applications and such from TitaniumBackup, and I believe that is the reason the purple tint comes quickly, because certain particles in the camera actually melt from the heat.
6) Is the M8's material as strong as the M7's? My device fell several times and it does not have a single scratch or crack, and the aluminium material is just superb. The grip itself isn't very good because it's slippery, but I have used covers since day one so I don't have that problem.
7) I just noticed that the M8 does not have any physical buttons, but what does that mean for features like swipe2wake and swipe2sleep? To be honest the on-screen buttons are kind of annoying and I'd have preferred the physical ones like on the M7.
Thank you very much guys. I appreciate your time.

I'm coming from an S4 so that is how I am going to compare. Battery life is pretty awesome. Some users are talking like 5-6hrs of on screen time. I am very happy with the battery life.

No complaints about the camera. What impressed me was the color and audio of some video I recorded.

All of this can be done, and fairly easy. I came from an S4 so it was all foriegn to me. You coming from a M7 should have no issue. My device is Unlocked, S-OFF, Rooted, and SuperCID. The MID can be changed, but it was suggested to me not to because I am in the US and require 4G.

Dropped once from two feet on to tile, no scratches.:silly:
Over all, I LOVE MY M8!
Thanks for your reply, I appreciate your information. Coming from the S4, do you miss the physical buttons? I am not sure if I'll actually like the onscreen ones, especially since they eat up a portion of the display.

Coming from the M7 these are my wife's findings:
Battery life - huge improvement. It sleeps better and trains less under use. She has hit 8 hours of SOT.
Camera - Again another massive improvement over the One in speed and ability. Also the purple tint is gone making it a no-brainer to update.
Modifications - this one is as easy/easier then the M7 to mod and it appears that AOSP is hitting less problems on the M8 compared to the M7. Also the GPE model allows stock Google to run perfectly if you so desire.
Speed - the M8 is very very fast but most of that lies in Sense 6. Otherwise the M8 runs much like the M7 did back in the day
Overheating - Mine will get warm from time to time, but I can underclock mine by 75mv so it runs cool all the time now.
Materials - the Gray color is soft. It will scratch easily and the Silver is just like the M7s silver. For me the curved edges and beautiful design are worth the softer finish

Thank you so much for your input, you've been very helpful. I think I am decided on jumping ship to the M8 since I have had a delightful experience with the M7; I had a Samsung before it, and iPhones before that, and to be honest I believe HTC has the best quality among them, especially when compared to the cheap quality of the Samsung. I don't think I mind if it scratches easily, I will use a cover anyways as I did with my M7 because it gives me a better grip when using aluminium devices.
Thanks again and have a great day. Cheers to the wife!

at first the smooth edges comparing to the rough" edges will be awkward...at least it was for me... but after a while you will love it... what I miss (coming from m7)
- ois (really useful)
- HDR mics (the m8 is amazing but the bass is not that deep, but more richer)
- and hmm thats it
I am sorry but what is ois? It keeps getting mentioned and I have no idea what it is.
And by the way, do you miss the physical buttons? I am not sure if the on-screen buttons are going to be as good, especially since you have to wake the display in order to use them, AND they'll take up space when using full screen applications, and you could very easily accidentally hit them.
I prefer the onscreen buttons now that I have made them smaller.
They disappear in most apps when you don't need them anyway and the extra screen real estate on your home screen is just bragging rights as the screen is plenty big enough even with the buttons on.
Although I must say they are too big unless you root and make them smaller.
I personally hated the M7 buttons with a passion, they were a pain. They were intermittent when they wanted to work. I almost tore my hair out trying to use the back button.
To be quite honest I have never had problems with the M7 buttons, but to each their own. Oh I am a fan of rooting, custom ROMs, and all of that so I gues I'll have no problem making them smaller. You said that they disappear in most apps, so how do you exit the app without using the home button? And I will also miss the HTC logo2menu mapping.
In short, yes, m8 is brillian so get it

Hi, Bought M9 yesterday after 30 minutes decided to sell. main reason was display. İt felt some how step back from M8. Display is greenish, not as bright also viewing angles is worst reminded me LG G2. also when you tilt screen little bit you get rainbow effects i assume thats becuase display not being in cell. but that happened to me o M7 few weeks later i found really good display maybe should never buy new phoenes as they come out. i did have around 300 mb update after that phones was still hot, and camera was not good.
Why did i buy M9 i like HTC as company i would buy their product instead of Samsung but now i feel a little disapointed. i think they could have made phone better but instead went lazy.
Before i get bashed i put picture of phone
Its the same screen as the M8, I had concerns with the colour depth as its not quite as vibrant as the M8, although that's down to the configuration in the display driver, should be easy to tweak at either htcs end or when kernel source drops.
I have not seen any rainbowing or angle issues so you may have picked up a duff/faulty screen

Well that may be the case there was only one in my town so i bought it i just sold it so i will look at before i buy next time. Spite S6 is tempting i'll get another M9 if display gets better.

I really do hope so! I will build a kernel using the m8 display drivers if it doesn't... When looking through the camera its actually a little more true to life than the m8 was
The screen on mine is slightly better than my M8. Much better white balance. It's not at all green. The phone has it's faults, lots of them, but the screen is not one of them.
Sorry to hear that and at least you gave it a try. By now I am very much hesitant getting the M9. I love HTC product; coming from Nexus 5; I promised myself to only by HTC phones again. The m8 has spoiled me so much with build quality and the software optimization. By now M9 has shown its definitely not a step forward from M8. I say this because look at the changes at HTC; CEO resigned and also the main designer left; plus all the negative reviews speaks for itself. Hopefully by now HTC learned their lesson.

So I received my m9 a couple days ago and can really notice the green tint, haven't decided if I wanna return it because I don't know if this is normal, or something that can be fixed through software tweaks or what. I talked to Tmo and they said it was noted across the board that the displays have a greenish tint, basically told me to wait it out for software fix since I'm most likely to get another one like this. My m8 has had a blueish tint bit never really notice it until I play with a different device for a bit.

i bought second phone and it was slight better but not as good. There used to ways to find display manufacturer but that did not work on M9. its funny but display feels like LG i wonder if they used same panel as Nexus 5.
Strange i have the m9 in my hand right now and my screen is perfect. No color disorders or angle problems. Just a very clear screen. Love the m9!
Many reports of various screen colour defects ranging from a green-yellow tint or hue, not disbelieving but mine is fine atkeast to my eyes

Just remember the speed/smoothness and battery life you'll be giving up m9 is a horrible device, lots of build quality issues, I have gaps between metal and screen both sides can see backlight in dark, cracks in metal on all 4 corners of the screen seen few people with this issue think its due to heat and can click the metal on bottom left when you squeeze together saw few post of this on xda also as for battery you'd be lucky if it lasts a day... On N6 im getting 5-6hours sot with 48 standby on M9 getting 3-5hrs sot with 12/24hr if lucky standby But the audio is great as expected screen is ok m8 seemed better if you like wasting money go for it ? but g4 is all round better device, In my eyes m9 is poor device in terms of build quialty and ux hope this helps

HTC 10 owners speak up! How great is your 10 let everyone know how well yours is built and holding up. Also your first impressions, the knock your socks off experience unfortunately mine shipped while I was on vacation and is sitting at home waiting on me. Will report on Monday when I get home! Can't wait!
From the 7-ish hours I've had mine, it has 100% completely lived up to the hype and has been an enormous upgrade from my One m9. I have absolutely zero build quality, screen, or performance issues. The camera is miles ahead of the m9's and I can't wait for the 1.30 software update to hit my phone which will make it even better. Also, one thing that really stood out is just how fast and accurate the fingerprint scanner is. The capacitive button idea is simply perfect for a fingerprint scanner. There's no way I can go back to a phone without a fingerprint scanner now.
My absolute biggest complaint (if you can call it that) is the position of the headphone jack. I've gotten used to having it on the bottom of the phone which fits best with my personal usage since I place a phone top-down in my pocket. I'm not sure this even qualifies as a problem and I know I'll get used to it quickly.

Yes also I had the 6p, I found it too big and clunky. I currently have the Lumia 950xl. While it is also a 5.7" screen, it is quite a bit smaller and lighter than the 6p. I also really did not like the camera strip at the back. Just could not get used to that at all.
I came from the shamu to the 6p so the screen size didn't bother me, and the phenomenal camera on the 6p made up for the ugly glass strip. Overall I'm extremely happy with the 6p but I have always been an HTC fan,(I of course had the M9 and A9 both in between, but both had their limitations) so I'm really really anxious to try a more pure stock sense experience coupled with very promising hardware!!

The HTC 10 feel a whole lot more solid and heftier. The fit and finish just feels nicer, no mismatching plastics or pieces that aren't flush, there is no black plastic "ring" around the screen that dents and comes off easily, button feel more solid
I used to be diehard pure Android only and have tried different skins over the years, even stuff like PA or some other custom wrong. But I'm finding myself liking sense a lot. Hated the previous version on my One S. I am itching to root just so I can block ads...
the way i would describe it is real metal especially compared to the A9 and X9 (which has thin metal like the iPhone)
the 10 is simply steel and glass, with no plastics in your sight (except the hidden strips)
overall a screaming premium feel, my TPU case is killing the whole aura so i am really anxious for my Spigen ExactFit to arrive, also the Fitbag black rave pouch looks amazingly classy with it
My eyesight isn't what it used to be so I've been using phablets - Note 2, Note 4, Moto X Pure Edition - and I was a little worried about the smaller screen size on the HTC 10. I've discovered, however, that it's very easy for me to read the HTC 10 screen. I prefer Sense over TouchWiz, but I've been spoiled by the flexibility of Nova Prime and I installed it on my HTC 10 after about an hour. So far, I'm very pleased with the HTC 10. I'll know more after I've used it for a week or two.

I'm hard of hearing but I can easily hear the notification sound on my HTC 10, even without my hearing aids.
I got mine yesterday (so far I love it) and I just now noticed there is a slight gap between the top of the screen and the frame. Has anyone else noticed this?
OK after having phone a solid 8 hours with 80% of my apps installed compared to Samsung S7 Edge is a mini review:
Nice build quality, slightly smaller screen, cleaner UI but with some idiosyncrasies, very good sound, type-C connector.
I am finding the more apps I install the slower the phone is becoming with some lag and stutter, the camera is quite good but Edge is better overall especially in low light, Edge is blazing fast despite touch wiz, Edge screen is gorgeous and battery life is probably better but will withhold judgement on HTC 10 for a day or two.
Overall a very good phone but not enough to best the Edge. Marketing will be an issue for this phone and may be difficult for buyers to justify at same price point if the preorder $100 discount is not available.
The wow factor is almost there IMHO.
Will keep testing with an open mind.
