Hi, Bought M9 yesterday after 30 minutes decided to sell. main reason was display. İt felt some how step back from M8. Display is greenish, not as bright also viewing angles is worst reminded me LG G2. also when you tilt screen little bit you get rainbow effects i assume thats becuase display not being in cell. but that happened to me o M7 few weeks later i found really good display maybe should never buy new phoenes as they come out. i did have around 300 mb update after that phones was still hot, and camera was not good.
Why did i buy M9 i like HTC as company i would buy their product instead of Samsung but now i feel a little disapointed. i think they could have made phone better but instead went lazy.
Before i get bashed i put picture of phone
Its the same screen as the M8, I had concerns with the colour depth as its not quite as vibrant as the M8, although that's down to the configuration in the display driver, should be easy to tweak at either htcs end or when kernel source drops.
I have not seen any rainbowing or angle issues so you may have picked up a duff/faulty screen

Well that may be the case there was only one in my town so i bought it i just sold it so i will look at before i buy next time. Spite S6 is tempting i'll get another M9 if display gets better.

I really do hope so! I will build a kernel using the m8 display drivers if it doesn't... When looking through the camera its actually a little more true to life than the m8 was
The screen on mine is slightly better than my M8. Much better white balance. It's not at all green. The phone has it's faults, lots of them, but the screen is not one of them.
Sorry to hear that and at least you gave it a try. By now I am very much hesitant getting the M9. I love HTC product; coming from Nexus 5; I promised myself to only by HTC phones again. The m8 has spoiled me so much with build quality and the software optimization. By now M9 has shown its definitely not a step forward from M8. I say this because look at the changes at HTC; CEO resigned and also the main designer left; plus all the negative reviews speaks for itself. Hopefully by now HTC learned their lesson.

So I received my m9 a couple days ago and can really notice the green tint, haven't decided if I wanna return it because I don't know if this is normal, or something that can be fixed through software tweaks or what. I talked to Tmo and they said it was noted across the board that the displays have a greenish tint, basically told me to wait it out for software fix since I'm most likely to get another one like this. My m8 has had a blueish tint bit never really notice it until I play with a different device for a bit.

I don't think a software update can fix this issue but since you don't notice it much I say go with it. I definitely would mind it but that's me.

Actually if you read Anandtechs review of the M9 they stated that this years screen even though the same "maybe" is not as good or as bright, calibrated etc, as the M8 was

i bought second phone and it was slight better but not as good. There used to ways to find display manufacturer but that did not work on M9. its funny but display feels like LG i wonder if they used same panel as Nexus 5.
Strange i have the m9 in my hand right now and my screen is perfect. No color disorders or angle problems. Just a very clear screen. Love the m9!
Many reports of various screen colour defects ranging from a green-yellow tint or hue, not disbelieving but mine is fine atkeast to my eyes

Serious question.
Personally I'm becoming pretty OCD with my phone and its defects (or lack of). My girlfriend claims not to be able to see the flicker, or the gap near the screen.
I think my obsession with having a perfect device is stopping me enjoying the phone fully.

You will see faults without having to look for them, they will be obvious, so relax and enjoy your phone
No. I'm just using my phone like the vast majority of people.
I know what you mean, and it kind of ruined the experience of the 'new phone' feeling for me.
Got my second HOX today. Found a very vaguely present yellow bar on the screen on the top. Still doesn't feel as good.
It just sucks to know your phone has flaws, or could potentially develop those over time.
Nope I'm not looking for defects at all, if something goes wrong and I notice it then I will look into it but I won't meticulously inspect the device that's for sure.
Only defect I have is the flickering on light grey colors and such.........really a pain in the ass now and makes me OCD about it.
Battery life has also been sub-par.....to say I'm satisfied and happy with the device. I'd say like a 50% because battery life is really annoying.....it's worse than my Galaxy Nexus by a good amount and the Galaxy Nexus wasn't even amazing with battery life (but it was pretty darn good).

everyone SHOULD look for defects. I only would have accepted the issues the One X has on a low budget device. Some people simply can't see stuff like this. It's like when I try to show people the difference with video playback on a display/tv/projector in 24hz compared to 60hz to show the stutter/jitter few people can see it. I see it really clear.
I always look for defects, and i hate my self for it, because stupid things like maybe a tiny lager gab with probably doesn't mean a S....
I work for a Danish Operator and in the last 7 days i've sold MANY ONE X... the last 4 days i looked closer one every ONE X when preparing them for the customers...
And guess what over 50% of the ones i sold had a tiny tiny larger gab between the screen and polycarbonat cover, so tiny larger that i need to hold it directly to the sun or really bright light to see it...
when i look back almost every model i can think of by HTC had a small difference around the screen and cover. even my previous Galaxy Nexus actually all three of them..
so right now i have my ONE X with a tiny larger gab at top, display with NO flicker but a tiny bit warmer white colored screen...
would i exchange it NO not this time, the next may have flicker or something els that annoys me a bit...
I don't think i can recall that i EVER had a perfect product...
hmm when i think of it thats not true.. my ONE S is perfect so why do i prefer ONE X, I really don't know..
ONE S seems faster in every day use, the material is nicer... but hey it's because it SO perfect thats make me keep my ONE X... or probably the larger screen
Simple. Don't ever expect a perfect device and be happy for what it is.

I ordered my HOX from ebay after reading all the positive reviews about it's crisp screen. But as soon as I powered up my phone and went in to the setting screen I could clearly see the dull yellowish tint on the whites. I had come from super amoled screen on SGSII. So the screen looked too warm for my liking, blacks were also not that deep.
After updating the device to the latest firmware, flashing 4 different custom ROMs, the yellow tint did not go away. Now today after two days I just decided to sell it for $120 less than what I had bought it for. $120 gone in vain.
From now on I will always buy electronic stuffs before testing it personally, and will never trust all these "REVIEW" sites.
You could just go look at it in a shop. I did, and compared it to the note screen. I preferred the one x screen.

As far as I know the yellow tint issue stops to appear after a few weeks of usage. Was the same issue on the iPhone 4. And how the hell can you dislike that screen? You are probably the only person on this planet who doesnt like that screen. I for example hate AMOLED screens. The colors are just too fancy and pentile is a pain for the eyes (okok I know SGS II has no pentile). Sold my One S just because of that ****ty screen (fantastic phone but that screen! ) and got the HOX instead. Don't regret it so far.
Well the yellowish tint is manufactures defect I think if you went to htc before selling it they might fix it or give you replacement. The fact that the screen is warmer that super amoled plus is something you will forget after using the device for couple of days
Finally I'm very happy with my one x and still strongly advice everybody to buy it
good luck

Sorry to hear that. Always go to forums and look for review rather than websites. You'll get honest reviews. Gladly I got one without any issues. Since i'm one of the early adopters I got Taiwan made which is very rare in India we alway get China made which had a lot of problems.

I doubt that it would have lost it's tint, because it was way too yellow. I did not DISLIKE the screen but I was not getting used to the warmness(personal preference I guess).
Yeah the colors on amoleds are over-saturated, but hey I like it that way.

Your joking right? The One S's screen looks horrible compared to the X's. I've compared them in store. Maybe there was something wrong with your device, the screen on the X looks much better than the GS2 in my opinion. Much better colour accuracy and much crisper. The GS2, while a great screen, have very blueish whites and over saturated colours

My early desire went to my wife when I got a dhd, after a few days I couldnt look at the desire anymore without it burning my retinas, she always loved the screen, now she has had my old dhd for a while and when she looks at the desire she can't stand the sickly sweet colours either.
I suspect the OP is an employee of Samsung, either that or just a troll with nothing better to do.

There's a sticky thread for reviews, no need for a hole new topic to complain about the screen....
LOL @ the ppl who insist that Super "overstaturated" AMOLED is superior to SLCD, particularly SLCD2. Who on earth would enjoy looking at a screen that has a distinctive blue tinge all over it? And true black? 90% of web content has more than 1 colour black you know and 70% of it has light colours so blue tinge is UNACCEPTABLE. I dont even need to have "tech" eyes to see how weird AMOLED screens look the first time I'd seen them.
And so now everyone who sells their HOX feels the need make a thread to mark their grand exit? If so I encourage EVERYONE who is going/ in anticipation of buying/ thinks of buying/ hesitantly considers buying etc. an HOX to make a thread to make their thoughts known to the world.
I had the same problem on my old N7 and went through 2 of those as well...
I've got some pretty bad backlight bleeding at the top/center of the screen. Literally looks like a dark grey to black gradient across the status bar. Other than that the screen looks pretty good. I say pretty good because I still think Asus could take a tip from Samsung in the display dept. But better color reproduction and contrast than the old N7 and love the 19x12 res. I'm gonna really enjoy reading on this thing once i get a good one. I just can't handle backlight bleed; it's a pet peeve of mine. It's going back to Best Buy tomorrow and I hope they have one more in stock for me. To anyone buying one, I would open it in store and check it out before leaving. My Best Buy is 30min and a load of traffic away.
Anyone else having this problem?

i think google's letting asus too much on the free rein. there's been better quality control on the previous nexuses, apart from asus. do try to chck out how sammy made the n10. that's what we can compare with n7 (both) and cry and curse asus.
seeing all that, I'm waiting for the next batch to come out, since I don't have enough reaources to replace a device once bougjt, so I just won't be taking any chances.

My original N7 has backlight bleeding along the left side, most noticeable on the bottom. Wife's has similar backlight bleed. Seems like some of this has nothing to do with batches. I got my original N7 in December, long past the first batches.
Just seems like they have some quality issues. Like the three org N7s that I went through before hitting on one that didn't have screen lift. I did finally get one, but it took some effort and returns on my part.
As for my newly purchased second generation N7, there are a few problems with it. Aside from very minor light bleed that is only visible in a black room, light bleed is not one of the issues.
I do hope that the second generation problems are worked out in subsequent batches, because the screen itself is a beautiful thing.

as I said, google's probably giving asus free rein too much, and asus is putting all that axe on our necks. They should be considerate about quality, because quality only is what matters. see all the good specs going down the drainage.
Mine only has it at the top like you, but its only noticeable during really dark scenes in a poorly lit area. Most IPS display will show some sort of light bleed. Speaking from experience, if its not one thing, then its another. Everything else is excellent. No dead pixels, popping sounds from the speaker, etc, etc. I swapped my N4 3 times before I got a unit that I thought was pretty good. And even then, its still not perfect since it too has some light bleed. If it really bothers you, then prepare yourself for what could possibly be a goose chase. :good:
Yo guys, just got a G4 today and I'm happy enough with it however coming from my G3, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, the whites just seem to be a fair bit whiter on the G3 and the G4's display looks a lot warmer. . I'll see if I can capture it on camera, but does anybody else have this issue or could it just be the case that this is how LG intended the pannel to be?
Just to mention that I can't compare it to a display model as the phone isn't stocked in my country.
Ive looked at like 5 G4 displays and none of them are the same
Dang, so it's essentially the luck of the draw if you get a good pannel? :/
Mine looks great, no tint color at all.
I'll check my friend's later if there's inconsistency or not.
I have 2 G4's, which I have already replaced one of the 2 I have. None of the three screens are the same. Also brightness differs quite a bit between the two I currently have. lastly, one is more yellow while the other is more blue.
Its a pretty large discrepancy between them

IMO ? Getting a S6 in replace of a G4, it's a rollback.
I'm noticing that on mine too. I currently have two G4s because I still have to ship one back, but the one I'm returning has clearer and crisper whites than the one that was sent to replace my old one. But the new one I got has so far had much better battery life so I think I can deal with having the screen be slightly worse if it means the battery lasts longer.

Get it replaced the G4 screen is actually a colder than normal looking screen.
personally i prefer warm colours as its easier on the eye but if you're into your whites then they should be colder. The tint wont go away. I rcall people with one plus complaining about it. However it was a bit more blatant as in one part of the screen would have it rather than the whole one.
There is variation between screens, the brightness has been mentioned by reviewers. I think its the usual kinks from early runs of the factory cycle. people buying later will have less issues.
Yeah we all heard about the screen quality issues and stuff, But is it really that bad? I would love to get one coming from the og pixel xl. But do you guys recommend me getting one?
I got a P2XL 64BG black to replace my 1st Gen Pixel 128GB and overall I'm happy with my purchase. That's not to say the display is perfect, I do have the blue shift when I look at it sideways and I also don't really like the bland colors. I haven't had any issues with burn-in yet though I did install the 8.1 beta to make sure that the soft keys don't burn in. That said Google increasing the warranty to 2 years, the beta dims the soft keys and Google is promising a software update that will offer a more saturated color scheme.....so between what Google has done and are in process of doing I am not really too concerned about the display issues. Display aside it's a great phone, it doesn't get warm like my Pixel did, it's very fast, smooth, great battery life and the 3 years of OS updates is a great perk. I can't speak for anyone else but I am happy with my purchase and will be keeping my P2XL. The best advice I can offer is what others have said in other threads, go to a store and check one out for yourself then decide.
It rocks. Get it.
i love my phone. im coming from the OG pixel
all the negative reviewers are just dumb imho
I highly recommend it for fun on XDA! But it's your decision...
I love the phone too. Only grip is the fingerprint reader. Finger needs to be dry & clean. Otherwise it won't work well.
Go for it. I upgraded to P2XL from Nexus 6

I have had mine for nearly two weeks and it is absolutely stunning. Yeah I have a bit of the blue shift (to be expected on most OLED displays) that I don't mind at all, haven't seen much burn-in at all but have moved over to immersive mode via ADB until they release some additional screen fixes/improvements to try and help with it, haven't seen any black smearing whatsoever, etc. In regards to the bland colors, Google announced saturation mode that I imagine will come with the December release? This will be x amount more than the current vibrant mode or whatever it is, I believe it is +10%+, not certain on how much more saturation mode will be, if you dig more vibrant colors and all. I actually prefer, the more true-looking, duller colors but do have vibrant mode turned on (not much of noticeable difference), will play around with "saturation mode" once available but will likely stick with the duller look, saturation mode may be good for video viewing/editing and watching movies/videos.
Like the first poster said, the phone is great, does not get warm, incredibly fast and feels buttery smooth, the battery life is phenomenal, 2 years of warranty and 3 years of OS updates. Could not be happier. I almost got 50 hours out of my phone the other day, probably would have but needed to head out so wanted to throw it on charger, ended up charging it at 7% and about 48 hours off charger, granted I barely had screen on (4 hours) as it was a busy weekend where I didn't need my phone much but all in all very impressed as I have quite possibly every little battery sucker turned on on the phone. I did do some GPSing, lots of music, texting, some snapchatting, lots of Twitter feeds loading, etc. but I'd say mostly light to moderate use, impressed nonetheless.
In the end, it is your choice but I could not be happier with my purchase and would do it all over again, had I known about screen issues upfront.
EDIT: I take back the saturation mode coming in December release.....it is here and available in the November release. I will post screens to a different thread and can provide a link to it later but just thought I'd let you all know.

Yes
Disregarding screen issues that don't even bother me personally. The colors I know will be fixed either by Google or of not with root and custom kernele we will be able to fix that. The phone is amazing. If you do paranoid about the screen stop at a Verizon location and look at it even if you don't have verizon, but I don't recommend buying in through Verizon! :highfive:
I've had mine almost 2 weeks and really haven't found any reason to not love it.
I did a comparison of the screen / blue tint HERE if you want to see a bunch of side by side comparisons.
But honestly, like I've told everyone who's asked: get one, keep it a week, use it play with it, run it through your daily use, and then make the call to keep it or return it.
Nearly every aspect of liking a device is subjective to each person's individual likes and tastes.
I'd hate to see you cheat yourself out of a great device because someone else said it sucked, or had this flaw.
Get it. If you hate it, or just can't get over the blue tint, return it and move on
No one knows better than YOU what you'll like.
If you have to ask, then the answer is NO!
The device is only for self-minded individuals.
If you like a good screen then no

?? My screen is beautiful and I am not experiencing some of the issues others have had. I believe most of the screen issues were related to a few specific batches....they have already came out with an update to fix and help improve many of the lil nuances ppl have been knee jerk complaining about. The screen is fine unless you are the super picky type.

False statement. The update only sorted the colours... More saturation. Most of the issues are hardware. It's not just a few batches. You don't have to be picky to not be happy with the issues...at the high price too. It's been proven the LG p oled in most cases is sub par

Did it? It didn't provide the dimming of the home back and recent buttons to help prevent burn-in? It didn't update brightness configs? It wasn't just colors...
And yes not all batches have the burn-in or even the severe blue tinting issues. I have no signs of burn-in and compared my phone to another P2XL and my blue tinting is hardly visible when my buddies is easily noticed. He does not have any noticeable burn-in either.
I understand that a lot of it is hardware related but there can be improvements on software side to help make the screen last as long as possible as we all know OLEDs decay over time regardless. Is it sub par, it very well may be, but to the average user I dont know if they will notice it being sub par versus superb. I honestly have zero gripes with screen, it is highly objective, but so is the term "good screen".
And, as I mentioned in my post, in the end it will be up to the end user to decide if the screen is bad or not.
I love my Pixel 2 XL. It's the best phone I've ever used and that's with five years of selling phones.
The screen isn't as good as Samsungs. I wish that it was, especially considering the price tag. But the screen is not bad but any means. The blue tint is a design choice. It doesn't bother me. I would like a wider color gamut than just the RGB colorspace and the new "saturated" option just seems to make everything more saturated as opposed to just enabling super saturated colors to be displayed. I find that very disappointing. But that is fixable...
I could go on and nitpick the rest of the phone, but truly the reason to buy this phone above all others is the software. It's buttery smooth. It makes the other companies software look bit silly.
I would recommend the phone. It was otherwise perfect for me if not the screen, and the screen is not that bad especially after the OS update yesterday. I don't see any graininess. I like the natural color more (and now you can change to saturated mode), there is very slight screen burn in or image retention (which I have to look for it by downloading a screen test app and adjust the screen brightness and environment lighting to be able to see, normally I just can't see it). The worst about the screen for me is the blue tint. It was very noticeable when I first switch on the phone, perhaps I specifically look for it after reading all the comments everywhere. After using it for a week, it becomes less and less noticeable. And now in the saturated mode, the blue tint becomes the normal color I am used to, while the normal color when viewed straight on becomes a vibrant and saturated one that everyone else wants.
However, I agree with others that you can go to a verizon store and have a look yourself. And buy and try for a week then decide whether you want to return it.
If google had gone with a samsung panel this would have been the best phone every

And more RAM, and a headphone jack... I would agree absolutely.
