Sell my Galaxy S6 for Nexus 5X? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have to say that S6 is a great phone, but: I hate Touchwiz and physical home button. As there's no way to get rid of the Touchwiz, I thought of buying a Nexus 5X.
What do you suggest?

No. You would lose about practically everything, except software, camera and fingerprint sensor. Maybe, S6->N6P would be a better choice.

I bought a 5x around a month ago, switching from an s6. Although the hardware is a downgrade, I have to say the overall experience is way better. I love the freedom I get with a Nexus, and I'll never be able to get that with anything else on Verizon.

Thanks, N6P is too big for me...

I've switched from s6 edge to n5x, the best choice I've ever made. If you don't care about premium material, don't even think about it.

I switched from my S6 flat to N5X.
I'm loving it... And the battery is awesome!

I also just sold my s6 yesterday and ordered the 5x. S6 is a beautiful phone no doubt, but the experience on a nexus is worth it

Maybe you should think about the experience instead of specs ^^ And 6P is a phablet more expansive so that's not the same thing

They are many alternative launchers to eliminate your anti-touchwiz concerns. Even Google Now launcher is avail, which is what I did on my S4.

dude hell yes, trust me. if you're like me and values the overall experience over just bland specs, you're going to be very happy with the switch.
Galaxy S6 had really ****ty software, memory management bugs, and crappy battery. Yes it looks nice with its all glass body but to me that was actually a minus because i was so scared to break it. Nexus 5x is better in every sense except maybe the custom samsung chip and the camera. And the pure software experience oh man this is were nexus 5x and even a nexus 5 has an edge over any samsung phone. Pure stock android is infinitely better than touchwiz in EVERY way. So much cleaner and faster. Bro buy an nexus 5x and you will never look back.

Launchers do not eliminate touchwiz unfortunately, only the launcher aspect of it. I switched s6-->N5X and don't regret it the slightest. Only regret is that I didn't give the moto x pure a shot as I liked my 2013 and 2014 moto x quite a bit

I also made the switch from the S6E to the 5X and couldn't be happier. The 5X is just a more enjoyable experience, it doesn't heat up like the S6E did, the animations are smoother, endless runners like Sonic Boom 2 don't drop frames like it did with the S6E and the list goes on. Stock Android is where it's at.

I'm loving my 5X... I use Android on my job and in my old S6 the battery sucks. I charged it 3 times per day..every single day. With the nexus I can finish a day of work...
And after all the nexus experience Is better... When u are tired about the UI u can flash a different ROM...

You won't be disappointed by switching from the Galaxy S6 to the Nexus 5X. Mostly for the exact reasons you mentioned, no TouchWiz and no outdated physical navigation buttons. The battery life of the Nexus 5X is better but it isn't very good either. Although no phone has what I would call "good" battery life anyways.

Replacing the TouchWiz launcher would be an improvement but it doesn't totally remove TouchWiz. TouchWiz goes way deeper than the launcher or even just the UI. Plus, installing a different launcher doesn't remove the TouchWiz launcher which I think still ends up running in the background so you may end up having the TouchWiz launcher still using some resources as well as the possibility that the new launcher doesn't preform very well(like Go Launcher and Nova Launcher).

Thanks guys, the pros are just the motives I would switch over to N5X...
But now I'm even divided between 5X and Moto X Force...

You're not a Samsung fan? Lol. Might want to edit that post then. Haha.

Well, Touchwiz is not just launcher. It's a heavy Android modification that makes many mods incompatible. And the lack of Exynos source code not allows custom AOSP roms...

Gonna go over from a S6 to 5x in a couple of days when my phone arrives. S6 only beats the 5x in materials and camera, a 2gb ram will still be better than the 3gb in S6 with their ****ty ram management implementation that has been present since launch and no updates or even an acknowledgement forthcoming for it. Terrible for a flagship honestly.
I'm never gonna give samsung a chance again. S6 was my 1st samsung phone actually, their high prices for cheap materials and slow updates was what kept me back then, now they lost a customer for good. But their camera and the availability of various accessories is great although its not a priority for me.

Trade Galaxy Nexus for One S

Hi ! I put up my Galaxy Nexus for sale in order to buy a Nexus 4 (was selling it for 325EUR with an extended battery) however I got an offer to trade it with an HTC One S. While I'm a big fan of AOSP and the lot of development going on here, I like the extra performance of the One S, which from what I read seems to be quite a bit faster than the Galaxy Nexus. The only drawbacks of the One S I can think of atm are that I might not immediately get the latest updates (such as key lime pie) and the slightly smaller screen however I think that the One S has a nicer screen overall. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do ?
Thanks
A couple of months ago i bought a one s off of craigs list. It was a nice phone and i actually liked it a lot. I think htc has good build quality, and sense 4.0 is pretty good. However it wasn't the final place i wanted to be with android. There i was waiting for the latest updates from htc, and i just got tired of that. I had the chance to trade for a g-nexus, did it, and am happy with the results. One-s is a nice phone but this is where i wanted to be.

Not going to argue about SLCD vs AMOLED but doesn't the Galaxy Nexus have a higher resolution display?
better off with your current nexus or the new one. Closed source drivers ftl with htc. they make great hardware but too slow at software releases.
Thanks for the replies I'm going to stay with the nexus for now unless I sell it and get the nexus 4

I just changed my One S few weeks ago for a Galaxy Nexus and i'm so happy I did that. The One S is a great phone and it's fast, very fast and sense 4 is in my opinion far better then the previous sense versions. It also has a great camera, build quality is great, all in all this phone is good and you maybe won't regret it... BUT, if you like flashing roms and stuff then this phone isn't for you, development is very poor. CM10 is almost fully working, but it still has some little bugs remaining. Apart from being a great phone, fast, smooth, great performance, good batterylife in standbymode, improved sense, beautifull screen (especially the colors),... I missed the nexus community and the development... But if you don't care about roms, mods,... then this phone could be a good choice for you. Speedwise compared the Galaxy Nexus is slower yes, but you only notice that in benchmarks. In everyday use the speed is almost the same.
Thanks Considering I bought the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 for that reason I'll stick with Nexus devices

If you like trying different ROMS and having the latest version of Android, I would stick with the GNEX. There is plenty of ROM development and new versions of Android are releases almost immediately after they come out. It's why I will only buy Nexus phones going forward.
Stay with the nexus. In my eyes going from a clean nexus to a bloated one s is a downgrade. (Development )

I actually have both devices. There are things I like about either devices. I am not going to re-iterate the specs difference as that's pretty well known (camera, battery, nfc, etc).
For the Nexus, I like the larger screen and the stock rom since it actually makes some apps to run a bit smoother. For example, when launching XDA app, it is a tad faster on the Nexus than the One S. However, I do often notice slightly lag or stutter on the Nexus that I do not notice on the One S. One S is actually a great device and it's sad it is not getting the attention it deserves. While I like Nexus screen size, i think One S's color is actually better than Nexus. The One S generally feels speedy when switching between apps.
I often switch to Nexus and the One S and would love to use Nexus because of its larger screen but after using it for a few days, I often went back to One S simply because the micro-stuttering just bugs me. What I really love is having the one s guts but Nexus screen. I guess I need a new phone, maybe N4. Sadly I don't think I can afford one for now. It is just my own opinion and I think everyone is different so it is hard to say which one is the best choice. I have to say as a daily phone, One S is easier to carry around due to its compactness.
There's a lot of misinformation going around here.
The HTC One S is an excellent phone. Its way faster than the Galaxy Nexus. The S4 is really power efficient, open source, and fast with the Adreno 225. Sense 4.0 is beautiful, fluid, but the phone will be behind the latest version of Android (unless you root and flash) for at least 6 months.
It really comes down to this:
Do you enjoy timely updates?
Or
Do you enjoy a smoother, more catered experience?
Honestly, keep the Nexus and wait till Mobile World Conference. See what all the other manufactures have in store for 2013.

No or lack of dev support is a major roadblock. I like HTC phones. They are well built. But I HATE custom UI and bloatware.
I think the one s has a much higher resale value than the GN? Especially now that GN are only going for 200-250 with the announcement of the n4. So its up to you if you look at it that way.
Get the One S, sell it, then buy N4.

5X Vs S6

I'm terribly indecisive to buy Nexus 5X or Samsung Galaxy S6: can you help me?
The main differences seem to be: screen resolution/size e RAM size.
I'm worry about RAM because I already have one Samsung S4 Mini and it's always full.. what about your opinion?

Difficult choice?
I run both, and have to say that the S6 is better built, seems to have a bit more CPU power, and the camera is the best I have seen. Admittedly I am on the 6.0.1 Beta, have themed the hell out of it and have disabled everything I don't think I need (Package Disabler Pro is your friend).
Honestly though, if you bought the 5X and did not own an S6 I think that you would still be happy, I feel more confident that the 5X will remain up to date with the latest software well before the S6.
In the UK the price is not that different if you shop around, I am not sure what the difference is where you are.
Either phone is very good, I am preparing to be flamed for slightly preferring the S6 (ducks for cover......)

it all comes down to your usage, habbits and expectations.
i myself came from an international S4, which on first glance is quite similar to the 5X (1080p screen, 2GB ram, etc). long story short: the S4 is garbage in comparison.
a friend of mine got the S6, we played around a little with each others phone and compared our experiences, which came down to the S6 being bloated and the additional ram getting lost to the higher resolution screen and bloatware (even with a lot of that already disabled). touchwiz on the 6th generation of this phone still seems... less fluent than stock android and the fingerprint sensor on the 5x is just less awkward.
keep in mind that highly filled ram on android isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just tries to chache the last/often used apps, so they start up quicker. also, since there is no dedicated video ram in these phones, meaning the higher the resolution, the less ram you have at your disposal.
this all is regarding the (almost) out of the box experience with these phones (rooted, adblock, mostly deactivated bloat).

Galaxy S6: QHD screen powered by 2,600mAh battery, CrapWiz, hardware navigation buttons and Samsung build quality
Nexus 5X: 1080p screen powered by 2,700mAh battery, stock Android, on screen navigation and NOT Samsung build quality
For those reasons alone I would never choose the Galaxy S6(or any other Samsung phone) over a Nexus 5X(or any other non-Samsung phone).
I just switched from an S6 to a 5x. Very glad I did, but as the posts above state, the s6 is a more premium device from a hardware standpoint. Personally, I value stock Android, fast updates and clean user experience over the metal and glass. From my week of using the 5x, I don't miss the s6 at all. The 5x feels solid, much more than the original 5. While the S6 camera is the best I've used, the 5X takes great pictures and I actually prefer the lower light performance of the 5x as there is less noise in the photos. The fingerprint scanner on the 5x is much better too.
Good luck with your decision.
Galaxy S6 takes better picture, has a better screen, has more storage, has better sound quality, has faster CPU. has better build quality
Galaxy s6 is about the same price has Nexus 5x on Ebay or Amazon.
Galaxy s6 battery should last longer then Nexus 5x. The bottom line is Galaxy s6 is much better. it run's fast and smooth.
BUT If you like fast updates and 3 years update cycle then get Nexus 5x.
if you like rooting and installing different ROM's and Kenels then you should get Nexus 5x.
If you like don't like skin touchwiz UI, sense 7 or anyother UI skin and you like plain Android 6 to the bones then get Nexus 5X.
if your a developer then get Nexus 5x.
Nexus 5X has a better finger print reader.
Galaxy S6 finger print scanner is 90-95%. you don't swip your finger like the above guy said. he's wrong, or he might be talking about the old galaxy s5.

Online ources show the 5x getting longer battery life than the S6 and that seems to be the consensus from users as well.
The 5x has a bigger battery (2700 mAh vs 2550) and is running the more efficient Android 6 software. It also has a less powerful CPU and GPU. I'm not sure why you would assume the S6 has longer battery life under these conditions.
Two of my kids have S6. I am running Chroma ROM on 5X with Franco kernel (r4) and I could not be happier. I would never want a Samsung phone. I am on Android so I can have the features I want and nothing else. Nexus is the way to get that.
i have an s6 edge and a 5x, as far as cameras go i actually think the quality of the pictures is better with the 5x. only issue i have is the delay in saving the photos in HDR mode...battery on the 5x is so much better than the s6 edge (sometimes i think i have a dud though it is so horrible). for me, i dont care so much for the if the phone "feels" premium or not. 5x is light, excellent size for one handed operation, and i love the finger print scanner that just turns on the phone by touching it!!
Allthough I do like what Samsung has done regarding design and hardware quality, I remain sceptical about the software situation -
As it definitely lacks developer friendliness, I wouldn't go for the S6. My 5X on the other hand is a bit creeky buildwise and does have some performance issues (at least 100% stock), now with Cataclysm and ElementalX or franco kernel, is a capable, yet unimpressive device (especially compared to less powerful devices of the Snapdragon 801 generation and for the price - I paid around 360€ / $390 for it) - but I start to like it, especially for the fingerprint reader and the camera.
S6 wins in performance, but the N5X wins in camera, fingerprint, and UI.
That being said, N5X performance can be pretty bad for some, so that may need to be considered, esp if you're not going to mod it.
N6P is better than both N5X and S6, while still being cheaper than S6, and is the best option if you don't mind the increased size.

Lag like i perform an action and the phone is frozen for a few seconds before performing it.
I've been using the EX kernel + the tweaks from the interactive governor thread. It's MUCH better but i still get lag occasionally. I thought the franco kernel wasn't fully stable yet? What are its benefits over EXK? Would I need to flash the stock kernel first before flashing franco?

Yeah, that is what I thought lag was. I cannot say I have ever noticed it. Maybe it depends on the app. As to flashing Franco over EX, I would have to review the thread. I saw one thread where someone was complaining about problems and it seemed like they were just flashing kernels over each other. I think you just have to UnSU and the flash SuperSU 2.67 after the kernel. That is what I would do. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the info. Im pretty sure i'd have to flash stock kernel first to avoid issues (not sure which zip contains that though). Why do I need to flash SuperSu again tho? I'm already on 2.66 if im not mistaken, systemless.

Maybe not, I thought the su files were in the kernel partition but probably wrong. That is just the order I flash when I update. ROM, vendor, kernel, unSU, SU.

Nexus 5X or Galaxy S6?

What's your opinion on which one is overall better?
In my country they are roughly the same price on a 2 year contract (the Nexus 5X is about 30-40 Euros cheaper than the S6). But the build quality is rather different.
As a previous owner of a Nexus 5, I'm rather inclined towards the 5X, but I would like to hear from you about the everyday performance of the 5X (battery, camera, gaming, every aspect of this phone actually...).
Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place.
I get about 4hrs SOT normal to heavy use. Camera is great... But awesome in low light situations. The fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate. The March security patch/update took care of the lag issues. Love the size and weight of it. Easy root, quick updates, great dev support and last bit not least...Android N beta program.

Thanks...I've read a ton of negative comments about the battery of the 5X, but 4hrs SOT is more than enough for me on a daily basis. I'm a little afraid about the lag and partially about the future proof of the device for the next 2 years, because of the 2gb ram. My current LG G3 is also with 2gb and is absolutely terrible...

Ive had both. Battery is better on 5x, camera is better on s6. Other than that there is the question of stock vs touchwiz. Both phones are pretty nice.

I also had the Galaxy S6 for about a year. Switched to the N5x last week, because I had enough of the constant fear of dropping it or even laying it on the table, breaking/scratching either the front or the back glass.
I can't really complain about the performance of the N5x it is pretty much on par with the S6 (subjectively). Battery-wise it is about the same for me if not better. I really missed vanilla android, although the latest marshmallow update on the S6 made touchwiz bearable (with the stock marshmallow theme).
The custom rom/update situation does not seem that good on the S6. They just recently got CM to run on the S6 (no working camera, call issues etc.), so it is still a long way until it gets usable.
And from Samsungs side I fear that this was one of the last updates.

I'm on Verizon so when/if I get MM I can practically guarantee its the last update for the S6 I will see. Next year come tax time going to get me and my wife 2 new Samsung phones and me a Nexus, wonder who's making them this year might pick up a nexus tab if they do indeed bring it back.
I went from an S6 to the Nexus 5x. After the March update, this is a superior phone. Snappy, light and gets the job done. I hate touch wiz.
Yeah, the march update worked magic. Not a big fan of touchwiz but I wouldnt say no to the s7 edge. That phone is close to perfect. Just add usb c and get rid of the bloat...

I just got one . its nice mobile camera is v good , finger print , size , ability to custom ROMs because stock ROM is very primitive . nexus 5x has a different taste in shape and usage. I bought it because I felt boring from Samsung and it's software. But I advice you to watch some YouTube videos to decide by your self if you are going to like or not, and to see in depth Nexus details. Generally Samsung screen is a little better and mobile structure is more stronger. Try to try Nexus 5x In some showroom or with a friend. If you liked it and matched your taste go ahead and buy it . no big problems in Nexus 5x

tomorow will arrive samsung don`t make updates and my s4 its 3 years old, old baterry , no more drivers for cm13, du, resurection a lot of bugs and i`m pice off ! i will never buy a samsung
I came from an S5 and even from that it was worth getting the 5X. At first no, cause of software issues but over time it's gotten much better. And even now, I'm running Android N Beta and it's the best it's run.

You made a good choice. The Nexus 5X is one of my top 5 favorite phones ever. Mainly because of no Touchwiz, Sense, etc... If you choose to unlock it's bootloader, I would recommend switching to Android N ASAP. Anyway, have fun! ????
Go for it don't think about it the device is really cheap and has tones of development
I had the s4 as well, although 5x is also plastic, it feels much much more premium than the s4 and it also feels sturdier (my s4 broke twice in my pocket while sitting, was lucky warranty covered repairs). The camera is awesome, though video is shaky, you can easily enable eis though if you're rooted which fixes it.
The software is also faster and not so bloated, it will definitely feel like a big upgrade.
I swore never to buy samsung phones after the s4 though so maybe my opinion is biased.

Think to buy nexus 5x

Please tell me good things and bad things about this phone i heard that have a lot of lag and its slow.please help me to choose nexus 5x or galaxy s6

Nope to both of those criticism's.
Bad points :
Buttons feel very plasticky. Fine with a case though.
Speaker is only mono and not a great mono.
Good points:
Great screen.
Great Camera.
Great software support (end of 2017 for google updates)
Easily bootloader unlocked.
Runs well.
Good battery.
I got my Nexus 5X just a week ago and it's my first stock android experience and I have to tell you - it's f*cking awesome! Nice and smooth, without any hickups. There were some lag issues due to encryption in the first months after release, but they were fixed and I haven't experience any problems. Especially if you have to compere it to a bloated Samsung device, I'd say go Nexus and never turn back!

My wife has a Galaxy S6 and I have the 5X. I don't see any real performance difference between the two phones at all. Battery life is similar on the two phones and the cameras are pretty close (I prefer the 5X) but the build on the S6 is more attractive. Key factor for me, though, is the pure Android with timely updates on the 5X - much, much better than the Samsung! Considering that it is going to be supported for longer than the S6, I would go for the 5X.
Tnx guys

No problems detected on my side. Camera focus works just perfect, so no worries about it!
