Hi guys ,
With Google's latest Nexus 5 out in market , i am sure lot of loyal Gnex users might be looking to buy one. I had a look at N5 at store and had a quick comparison against my rooted gnex running CM11 and was unable to find a standout thing that makes me buy N5 .
Throwing this question to you guys , if you own both N5 and Gnex or planning to buy one , What is the single best thing\feature you like in Nexus 5 over Galaxy Nexus.
Thanks !!
The proper camera (after firmware fix)
The fluidity, yes it just flies
The solid 4 hr gaming I've done on it. The phone doesn't get as hot as the N4 or GNex to when you play graphic heavy games.
Did I forget the 60hr DSP tunneling playback?
But the Nexus 5 can't top the audio quality of the GNex.

From my POV it's amazing. I have nothing against the camera. It takes great shots and I really love it. I'd recommend it to people if I have to.
And battery life is good. Could be better with optimizations and all but gaming wise? It's awesome. Depends on how you use your phone. I can't vouch for your usage and say mine is better lol.

I'm looking forward to a better camera, faster processor, bigger screen, and 1080p. Also, I held one, and it feels great in hand. Just waiting for my Verizon contract to die.
For me....official updates. I can acknowledge the better hardware, but the simple fact that the phone will be getting official updates I think is the best thing. An obvious observation, yes, but it makes it a lot easier than going through XDA threads to decide on a ROM and kernel to use, as well as a proper gapps file (don't get me wrong, I still love the XDA community and the customization through ROMs and kernels for my GNex).
XOOM XOOM!
I have to say that S6 is a great phone, but: I hate Touchwiz and physical home button. As there's no way to get rid of the Touchwiz, I thought of buying a Nexus 5X.
What do you suggest?
No. You would lose about practically everything, except software, camera and fingerprint sensor. Maybe, S6->N6P would be a better choice.
Nexus⁴ on Tapatalk.
I bought a 5x around a month ago, switching from an s6. Although the hardware is a downgrade, I have to say the overall experience is way better. I love the freedom I get with a Nexus, and I'll never be able to get that with anything else on Verizon.

Thanks, N6P is too big for me...
I've switched from s6 edge to n5x, the best choice I've ever made. If you don't care about premium material, don't even think about it.
I switched from my S6 flat to N5X.
I'm loving it... And the battery is awesome!

I also just sold my s6 yesterday and ordered the 5x. S6 is a beautiful phone no doubt, but the experience on a nexus is worth it

Maybe you should think about the experience instead of specs ^^ And 6P is a phablet more expansive so that's not the same thing
They are many alternative launchers to eliminate your anti-touchwiz concerns. Even Google Now launcher is avail, which is what I did on my S4.

dude hell yes, trust me. if you're like me and values the overall experience over just bland specs, you're going to be very happy with the switch.
Galaxy S6 had really ****ty software, memory management bugs, and crappy battery. Yes it looks nice with its all glass body but to me that was actually a minus because i was so scared to break it. Nexus 5x is better in every sense except maybe the custom samsung chip and the camera. And the pure software experience oh man this is were nexus 5x and even a nexus 5 has an edge over any samsung phone. Pure stock android is infinitely better than touchwiz in EVERY way. So much cleaner and faster. Bro buy an nexus 5x and you will never look back.

Launchers do not eliminate touchwiz unfortunately, only the launcher aspect of it. I switched s6-->N5X and don't regret it the slightest. Only regret is that I didn't give the moto x pure a shot as I liked my 2013 and 2014 moto x quite a bit
I also made the switch from the S6E to the 5X and couldn't be happier. The 5X is just a more enjoyable experience, it doesn't heat up like the S6E did, the animations are smoother, endless runners like Sonic Boom 2 don't drop frames like it did with the S6E and the list goes on. Stock Android is where it's at.

This guy said everything.
I'm loving my 5X... I use Android on my job and in my old S6 the battery sucks. I charged it 3 times per day..every single day. With the nexus I can finish a day of work...
And after all the nexus experience Is better... When u are tired about the UI u can flash a different ROM...

You won't be disappointed by switching from the Galaxy S6 to the Nexus 5X. Mostly for the exact reasons you mentioned, no TouchWiz and no outdated physical navigation buttons. The battery life of the Nexus 5X is better but it isn't very good either. Although no phone has what I would call "good" battery life anyways.

Replacing the TouchWiz launcher would be an improvement but it doesn't totally remove TouchWiz. TouchWiz goes way deeper than the launcher or even just the UI. Plus, installing a different launcher doesn't remove the TouchWiz launcher which I think still ends up running in the background so you may end up having the TouchWiz launcher still using some resources as well as the possibility that the new launcher doesn't preform very well(like Go Launcher and Nova Launcher).
Thanks guys, the pros are just the motives I would switch over to N5X...
But now I'm even divided between 5X and Moto X Force...

You're not a Samsung fan? Lol. Might want to edit that post then. Haha.
Well, Touchwiz is not just launcher. It's a heavy Android modification that makes many mods incompatible. And the lack of Exynos source code not allows custom AOSP roms...
Gonna go over from a S6 to 5x in a couple of days when my phone arrives. S6 only beats the 5x in materials and camera, a 2gb ram will still be better than the 3gb in S6 with their ****ty ram management implementation that has been present since launch and no updates or even an acknowledgement forthcoming for it. Terrible for a flagship honestly.
I'm never gonna give samsung a chance again. S6 was my 1st samsung phone actually, their high prices for cheap materials and slow updates was what kept me back then, now they lost a customer for good. But their camera and the availability of various accessories is great although its not a priority for me.

I just got one . its nice mobile camera is v good , finger print , size , ability to custom ROMs because stock ROM is very primitive . nexus 5x has a different taste in shape and usage. I bought it because I felt boring from Samsung and it's software. But I advice you to watch some YouTube videos to decide by your self if you are going to like or not, and to see in depth Nexus details. Generally Samsung screen is a little better and mobile structure is more stronger. Try to try Nexus 5x In some showroom or with a friend. If you liked it and matched your taste go ahead and buy it . no big problems in Nexus 5x

I came from an S5 and even from that it was worth getting the 5X. At first no, cause of software issues but over time it's gotten much better. And even now, I'm running Android N Beta and it's the best it's run.

You made a good choice. The Nexus 5X is one of my top 5 favorite phones ever. Mainly because of no Touchwiz, Sense, etc... If you choose to unlock it's bootloader, I would recommend switching to Android N ASAP. Anyway, have fun! ????
Go for it don't think about it the device is really cheap and has tones of development
I had the s4 as well, although 5x is also plastic, it feels much much more premium than the s4 and it also feels sturdier (my s4 broke twice in my pocket while sitting, was lucky warranty covered repairs). The camera is awesome, though video is shaky, you can easily enable eis though if you're rooted which fixes it.
The software is also faster and not so bloated, it will definitely feel like a big upgrade.
I swore never to buy samsung phones after the s4 though so maybe my opinion is biased.
Want to know if it is worth upgrading from the note 5 to note 7? If so Why??
In my opinion it's not worth it.. Almost same design. I think the battery will not be better too. The only pro thing is that the note 7 is waterproof.

Yes.
Edge screen looks nice and futuristic and clearly is the way to go for Samsung flagships moving forward.
Waterpoof.
Much better cameras.
Easier to hold one-handed.
Design so much better, very compact for a 5.7" screen phone.
Better battery.
USB type C.
Iris scanner not needed but still cool.
Micro SD card support with the possibility of using it as adoptable storage.
Only downside is it's expensive.
edit:
Forgot to mention that you can also set the screen to 1080p to save substantial battery life if you can't really see the difference between it and 4k. You can even set to 720p if you want.
I feel like the note 5 and S6 were a step in the right direction design wise, and still have great features when it comes to the hardware. If you don't plan on getting your phone wet and have enough internal storage then I wouldn't upgrade. If you like to store a lot on your phone that's the only reason I would upgrade if I were you. Otherwise the camera is still top of the line, the fingerprint scanner is fast& secure, and the phone still has the premium look and feel.
Yes for the sd card slot if nothing else.

4k? I thought it was 1440! But anyway imo it's not worth it at all. What do you gain? Do you have a problem with note 5? If it's performance related note 7 is likely the same or if it's thr purple smudge

Yes, what I meant was 2k, not 4k, lol.
No purple smudge on my Note5. No real problem with Note5 except the very limited 32gb storage, which I obviously knew about before buying. I thought it was going to be enough, I was wrong.

I actually made a thread although now i regret it because I thought the phone is released but it seems it's still not out yet! But they said the same thing about note 4 and ot does have it. Are you sure? Have you checked in gallery? Maybe the picture you check is bright! How about lag or delays. When you compare it next to a nexus or an iPhone.is it smooth?

Yea my pretty sure my Note5 doesn't have that issue.
About lag, are you asking about the Note7? With my brief time with it in the store, I can say there aren't any lags but of course it may be different when we're actually using it as our own.
To put it in perspective, what motivation will Nexus 6P owners have to upgrade to the 2016 version? It'll have generationally better h/w but what else? Especially considering the OS is/was/will be the same on both devices. Hardware and software has matured so the generational differences between devices get smaller each year. Unless you're a big gamer what apps are going to be noticeably faster between Exynos 7420 and 8890 or Snapdragon 810 and 820? If you want a Note7 and feel like spending the money, get it. If not I'm guessing 90% of what you do on your phone would perform just as well on a Note5. I've personally given up on rationalizing getting a new phone every year. I just chalk it up to a whim because I like the latest and greatest.

Nothing to rationize really, if I want a new device i buy one its not like I need to make a list of pluses and minuses or try to justify it..thats ridiculous its a phone not a car. Not a really major expense lol.
In this particular case though for me going from note 5 i do really want the SD support the 7 offers.

Thats due to the water resistance likely, which for myself is pointless as i am not stupid enough to use my device in a wet enviroment.
I would much rather ditch that and have far better audio quality. Personal preference of course and others seem to find the water resistance important
If the audio is that bad it would be a deal breaker for me and i will send it back.

This sort of question is THE most common on all forum brands. The answer is yes and no. In other words some will upgrade while others are still happily using the note 1. It is a very personal issue and one only you can answer.

If your a stock user, like TW UI, very good build and screen quality, not going to root or mod it, then get the 9. If you like a simple, very functional and fast UI, great speed and smoothness, wicked timely updates, and wanting to root and mod it, then get the P2XL. I was a Sammy user for years as well. Had the S3,4,5 and N4, then got the nexus 6p, and now the P2XL and have been having a blast. Don't get me wrong, Sammy makes a great product, it's just not to my liking since I like rooting, modding, and having the latest builds available. There's my 2 pennies worth ??

I used the S8+ from Nov through February before switching it out for the Pixel 2 XL. The S8+ was a great device but the fact it is so locked down is a deal breaker. This phone is phenomenal and I sought advice here before switching and received similar advice. If you're into tinkering, front facing stereo speakers and timely updates then this is your device.
I had the S3 and S5 and guess what I did with them. I would root and flash whatever popular vanilla-like Android ROM was out. I've heard good things with S8 and on but I really preferred my Nexus 5X and went with the Pixel 2 XL last fall. No regrets.

If you do go the Pixel route then don't get it from VZ, or Best Buy or Target...or any of the retailers. They won't be unlockable. Get the Google version directly bfrom Google.

Pretty sure those are bootloader unlocked, just confirm it before you buy. I am not 100 percent on that.
I'm fairly certain all carriers in Canada are Google, factory unlocked versions.
I bought my OG Pixel XL from Rogers, even though I'm with Fido (Fido was out of stock). And my SIM worked fine, and I was able to unlock the bootloader.
A phone is only as good as the software is. I had so many phones that looked good from the specifications but were useless because of the software; the LG V20 was a disaster for example. The S9+ is a great piece of hardware with a crap of Samsung bloat software. I had the S8+ and I hated it. . The Pixel has some hardware weaknesses but the software compensates for that.
Get off the fence, and try out the badboy Pixel XL 2!

Having owned both phones and currently using s9 plus, I can tell you it's down to personal preference.
S9 plus for it's design colour combination, build quality, better more vibrant screen, camera and better hardware.
Pixel for it's software, camera!
I have more gripes with pixel then s9 plus. S9 is the smoothest Samsung to date. Less lag and flatter ui but I use Evie launcher as that has plenty of customisation
Pixel build quality is POOR no 2 ways about it and more hardware issues.
Speakers on pixel are brilliant and more xda support, if you like that sort of thing. Also you can pickup second hand for a good price.

People always say the galaxies have better screens but to be honest, aside from brightness, I find Samsung screens to be poor.
I have 2 note 8's sitting here, which have multicolour shift when you shift it off angle, and one of them has a decidedly pink hue to the whites. This is not uncommon and I've seen it on the S9+ I tried as well. Also there is the light reflection running along the top and bottom edge of the curved screens ruining video content.
For me its this, Galaxies have bright screens, the S9+ has great speakers, the galaxies also have better battery life, but the Pixel 2 XL has much better cameras, and smoother software. Yes the screen has burn in and the top speaker is annoyingly quieter than the bottom...
