Within the last two weeks or so, my Note 5 has been randomly vibrating, and flashing the "S Pen has been detached" message, but the S Pen is still inserted. Sometimes it does it like three or four times in a row. When it does this, I've noticed that I can shake my phone, and recreate it, and sometimes just resting my finger on the S Pen will make it do it. Phone has never been dropped, nor had water damage.
Anyone experience anything like this? I haven't found anything online about it, and it's getting really annoying.
Am I really the only person lucky enough to be experiencing this? Guess I'll stop by the Samsung section at Best Buy today.
I've had the same problem. Been using the flashlight to dig In the garage and it just vibrants for no reason. Does you clicker on the spen get stuck as well?
Yeah, once in awhile when I click it to pull it out of the phone.
I'm currently chatting with Samsung Support via Facebook messenger. I get a response like every hour or so. Maybe they can send me a new pen.
Samsung in BestBuy was completely useless, btw.
Samsung in Best Buy is always useless. If you take them a problem they just go "Huh, I hadn't heard that."
So the best thing the Samsung chat came up with was to send it to them, with two day shipping each way, would have to be without my phone for up to two weeks.
Can't do that, for a problem that is more just a nuisance than anything else.

So... all of a sudden, everytime i slide the screen up, it shuts the screen off. I slide it back, hit the power button a few times, then it turns back on?

Is my screen busted?
Power off your phone, remove the battery and then put it back in, making sure it fits in there snuggly.
That has happened to me, and removing/replacing the battery fixed it.
Yes, as Amy noted this behavior is often attributed to the battery not sitting exactly right in the compartment. Sometimes just popping it out and back in is enough, but some people have reported needeing to slip a small piece of paper or something similar under the battery cover as well to help keep it snug. (It seems that the sliding motion can be enough to shake the battery off the contacts if it's not secure enough).
Let us know if that clears it up
okay. what the deuce.
my tp2 just literally started doing the same.
earlier today it was perfectly fine.
but now.
i slide out the keyboard and the screen goes blank.
i tried the remove battery and restart.
didn't help.
i tried the paper between battery and cover.
didn't help either.
the screen only goes blank when completely slid out.
if i hold it open just before completely open the screen is still on.
any suggestions?
thanks.
Yea, none of those things worked. However, keeping the battery snug helped with the issue of not hearing anything through the handset.
It honestly sounds to me like both of you are dealing with a loose connection between the screen and the motherboard somewhere, either power or video feed, can't say for sure which. Unless you're willing to disassemble your rhodium (which isn't impossible, just complex), it sounds like it's time to send it to a service center (for AT&T) or to HTC, since that would be a warranty repair.
I hope that this is just freak coincidence that both of you had this happen just now, and not a sign that we're all at risk of having the same issue eventually
How long have each of you had your phones?
EDIT: One more question for you guys...whatever is on the display on your screen rotates into landscape before the display shuts off right?

i have own the phone for about three weeks...
though. bought it used from a friend who had it for four months.
but my friend bought it used from somebody too...
aka. not sure how long it has been used.
the display is rotated. and stays on as long as the right side is held.
before the 'tilt piece' is revealed. as soon as it is. the screen goes blank.
and i believe it would be the video feed...
i can still type with the keyboard. just can't see what i am typing.
unless i hold the screen from sliding completely out on the right.
and about the warranty...
would i have a warranty with htc still?
don't have proof of purchase.
just the phone and original box.
thanks.
My AT&T Tilt 2 has been exhibiting this behavior for some weeks now. It seems to be centered around the keyboard slide, but the behavior comes and goes. I found that slamming the phone on the desktop would bring it back to life for a little while, but then it would start to clap out again in a few days. What a pile.
Anyway, I have a fresh one from AT&T to swap out. Now all I have to do is get all my applications and stuff transferred over to the new phone before sending the craprod back to them.

Oh boy...yeah I didn't realize you'd gotten it third-hand. Well it has been less than a year since the Rhodium was released, so it's possible that HTC will still honor the 1-year manufacturer's warranty, but I can't guarantee it. My suggestion would be to just contact HTC America's service group (1-888-617-1113) and see what they say.
Best case: they agree to cover the repair
Worst case: an example of one of the risks you take when you buy something through "unofficial" channels
Yea luckily for me, I bought it second hand, but it was purchased from a retail store, meaning I got a warranty exchange. I just sent it back.
having same issue
im having same issue, when the phone is slid open, goes black, nothing gets it back on, the buttons light up, display dead
however, if i place it in stand by via power button in regular mode, then slide it open, it works, ive rattled and shook the phone, never goes back off, im typing this with it open and tilted....
any ideas?
prob leaving the htc community, samsung captivate, blackberry torch, or htc aria are my choices from at
I just picked up 1 of 2 A100's on BF at Walmart. And the unit I got had been opened with the writing "Display" on the box. Since walmart was willing to match Best Buys price of 189.99 I felt it was worth the risk as these are somewhat difficult to get. Even at the higher prices. So, I took it home and plugged it in. It did boot fine the first time. However, after the second boot something strange started happening. In the lower right hand corner the battery/wifi connection box would continuously pop up and go away repeatedly. It would also bring up the settings window almost as if someone was continously touching the screen i guess.
I then did a factory reset and the first boot was fine. However, when i turned it back on it started doing it again.
It appears that the Iconia Tab has a screen flicker issue but I'm curious if that is what I'm seeing. And if so what are my options? I would like to keep the thing and don't want to pay full price. So should I call acer, return to walmart when they have inventory, or is there a fix out there.
Me thinks you should of bought the 2nd, unopened unit. Buying an open box item is always risky and I'm surprised you didn't pay less than $189.
I would bring it back and return it. Wait for a new one...sounds like this one might have taken a fall or two?
I doubt you would have to pay full price...besides, BB's prices are good until Sunday...you could call 15 Wal-Mart's and find one by then.
i had no choice i was second in line.....no worries though i found another walmart that had one left at 10am and returned it for an unopened one.
I bought an 8GB A100 unit a month ago here in Italy and it is starting this weird behaviour since a week too. I cannot replicate the problem all the times. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it starts clicking like crazy and opening panels and apps all by itself.
When this happened, I tried to light shake it in case of false contacts, but this doesn't seemed to stop the clicking. Also I tried to super clean the surface of the tablet blaming on excessive grease or moist, but got no improvements.
I noticed that this tends to happen more when I switch it on after a walk with the A100 in my coat's pocket, but if I use it when it is on my desk, most of times it works with no problems.
I can't decide if returning the unit or not. A month is passed and returning policies here are not granting users as much as in the US. Expecially if the problem can't be reproduced "on demand".
I don't know what to do.. maybe trying a reset could help, but as I can see from pabdaddy1995, not too much. Let's hope a firmware update can solve this.
Ciao from Claudio
pabdaddy1995, marvin2k,
This is the same problem that I've faced after installing swiftkey keyboard.
After removing it, it worked perfectly!!!!
There is something you guys are doing and you might ignored it or you didn't pay attention to that caused this problem.
Try deleting/ uninstalling new apps you added recently.
Good luck!

When you say "flicker" do you mean a VERY brief flash, like the speed of a blink of the eye, of some crazy shape?
My A100 has also done this ever since I got it. I swear that every time it happens it looks like my screen is cracked, but upon close examination, there really are no cracks in the screen. No random apps or windows pop up or anything like that, but when the flash occurs, the screen will turn funny colors and a crack in the shape of a funny looking X will appear all in the blink of an eye. But its not very often that this happens, so I'm not really gonna bother with it. Plus it was fresh from the box, never a display.
ummmmm............ could you repeat that?
Hi all
I have a weirdly frustrating problem with my new Note 2. I have noticed it since day one but thought it was me using it wrong. But I think I have got to the bottom of the issue.
When you hover the pen above the screen, sometimes it acts as if you are touching the screen. For example, if you were to hover over the Skype app shortcut, it will open the app. And during web browsing it will act like the pen is being held on the screen so it scrolls the page. It's does this while swiping across home screens and anything you can think of that you can select.
However, this seems totally intermittent. Most of the time it doesn't do it, but when it does it seems to become worse. I've only tried this once, but at one time it was doing this CONSTANTLY. I just put the pen back into the phone and removed it, and the issue seemed to disappear.
I am making sure I am not holding down the button on the pen. If I do, it does that snipping thing, so holding down the button isn't the issue and is acting like normal.
Any idea what is going on here? Do I have a faulty pen? :S
I would say its more likely you have a faulty screen as the spen itself has not got much in it that can go wrong.
Yes you have a faulty S-Pen
I had the same problem with my S-Pen, and the white part of the pen was a littel loose, I changed the S-Pen and the problem disappeared

I'm not sure what to do.
I bought it from Carphone Warehouse on Friday. Should I contact Samsung about it first or should I go back to Carphone Warehouse with it?
It's an intermittent problem so I don't really want them to give me hassle with proving it's faulty...
Don't mean to double post, but I just found a thread with the exact same issue. It's the pen for sure,

Today, I dropped my phone on the carpet from my desk and the auto-rotate stopped working. Upon searching for solution, I found that quite some people had same issue and fixed it by tapping it. After 30 minutes also playing around with it lightly banging on the cushioned surface, I finally got the auto rotate back. Now, I bought it through Best Buy, and afaik it is possible to return the phone within 14 days almost no questions asked. Should I exchange for new one hoping it wouldn't happen again? 2 years of having droid razr M I never experienced such issue even though I dropped it numerous times so I'm concerned that it may happen again.

If you're worried about it becoming an issue again, and just the fact that if you drop it again it could re-occur, so I say go for it. Go into best buy and tell them what happened and say you are worried about it and they will probably exchange it especially if you are with in the 14 day time period. I've never had this problem before so other than that I don't really know what else to say.
The rotation stopping is due to the battery being knocked loose. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
UHey gang,
About a week ago I got ****-faced and woke up the next morning to find my beloved S Pen was lost. Every now and then, my phone is still delivering the S Pen detached message to me. It might just be in my head but I feel like 90% of the time that I get the message is in one particular spot in my apartment. Is it possible that the phone is trying to tell me that S Pen is nearby, or am I just crazy?
Thanks in advance!
P.s. I'm aware that there is an option to turn the message off.
UPDATE:
So here's the deal for anyone who's interested. First off, I have found no definitive information anywhere on the internet so far regarding whether or not the Note 4 will detect a lost S Pen, or more specifically, an S Pen that has been lost for a day or longer, and "notify" you of its potential presence by displaying the S Pen Detached message, sometimes even 3 or 4 separate times in about a minute or 2 (in my experience, at least).
I did not find my S Pen in the area of my apartment where the message seemed to be displaying itself most frequently. What I did find in that area of my apartment, on the table (which in and of itself, as well as the space under it and the chair I sit in, make up the majority of this "area" of my place) hiding under a few random pieces of paper, was the baggie of extra S Pen tips that came with the phone. When I got the phone, I didn't know at the time what the heck was in the baggie, assumed it was put in there by mistake, and carelessly tossed it aside, where it eventually became covered by some random papers and sat idly, from the day I got the phone. Which poses another question in the midst of this conundrum. Could the baggie of extra S pen tips alone have somehow been being detected by my phone, causing the S Pen Detached message to display itself, sporadically I might add, as I rose and walked away from said table? The reason I say sporadically is because it wasn't happening anytime near every time I got up from the table and walked away. Less than 30% of the time, I dare say.
Alas, two days ago my beloved S Pen was found stuck in the passenger seat of my Ford F-150, while I was searching for a business card to give to someone else. In case your interested, I did find a stray business card, but it was half covered in dirt, I decided to give it the person anyway (apologizing for having only a dirt encrusted card, of course), they haven't called.
Anyway, I know i didn't mention this earlier, only really for the sake of keeping my query concise, but if there was any place other than that spot in my apartment that I noticed the S Pen Detached message displaying itself more frequently than anywhere else, it was certainly whilst exiting my car. Again, this could all be in my head, but I think I'm onto something here.
Verdict: Inconclusive. Just do the best you can not to lose the damn S Pen. And if it is lost, do the best you can not to lose hope!
OMG find it. It's possible it's near by. Don't buy the one from ebay if you get a new one, there absolutely fake. There made by wacom and a dealer only item.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Yea I'm pretty sure if that warning goes off it means the pen is nearby. Keep looking, the pen is made by Wacom like sandman said so you would have to contact Samsung to ship you a new pen from wacom if that's even possible.
