Any help would be greatly appreciated, this issue is quite obnoxious.
My Verizon LG G3 was running 5.0.1 lollipop just fine until last wednesday.
I was sitting reading a phandroid article at my desk, when a message popped up saying sim card not recognized. I tried restarting, removing battery, and finally removing sim. Sometimes after restarting it would get a greyed out 3g signal and allow phone calls but no data and say entering global mode. I got on the phone with verizon and by the time they answered after pulling sim and doing a couple restarts it had started working again. It worked for a few restarts and a battery pull, but then stopped working about an hour later. I went to verizon store got a new sim card, and it worked phone. I switched it off global because they told me that wastes battery (is this bull**** or true?) it worked for a couple of days, then died again. Then it started working again the next day or 2, and it automatically forced the 5.1.1 update while in my pocket. It worked for a few hours after that then lost sim again. The next day it worked again. Now I can't get it working again.
I should also mention this might just be coincidental, but everytime it stopped working was within 10 minutes of me swapping in a fresh battery. Both of my batteries are official LG batteries, and I charge them with the official
TL: DR
my phone keeps not recognizing my sim and is now running 5.1.1.
Any ideas for what my next step should be?
Should I replace sim a 2nd time?
Should I do a factory reset, is there any chance that would fix this? (I haven't done one since I got my phone and used the image from my first G3. So my phone has done 3 updates without a FDR. But i'd really also hate to lose my progress on some games unless I absolutely had to.
Should I have verizon send it to LG for repairs (takes like 2 weeks) (I think it's still in warranty since I got the phone 12/16/2014) But that was after returning my first G3 i got in september i'm not sure when they start their warranty period
Should I replace it through my asurion insurance?
Other ideas?

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem but i randomly get mobile network drops once or twice a week. The phone works perfectly well but the mobile network just drops, you cannot scan for network at all. The only way i have found around it is to enable plane mode to drop all connections and then turn plane mode back off so the network starts up. This often takes between 5 - 10 mins for it to kick in.
Tried two roms but now back to stock but still happening.
Have you tried flashing the latest radio? They are listed in the dev section.
The recent OTA 1.21.405.2 update included a new radio I think. Did you put this on too?
Since then, I have also been having the network drop out. I am missing a lot of calls as a result. Prior to this update I had two months of problem-free operation on my stock 2.1 ROM.
From reading the google forums, this is a wide-spread issue. The light at the end of the tunnel seems to be that people updating to 2.2 froyo seem to see the problem stop. Two weeks to wait for us stock ROM boys according to the rumours then! Fingers crossed.
It's a bit embarrassing having this flashy toy when it struggles to be a phone at random intervals. At the weekend one of my less techy friends was waving his Nokia 6210i in my face saying, "At least I can make and recieve calls!". So I changed the language on his phone to Turkish when he left it lying about. The old ones are the best.
I am going to test the 1.21.405.2 theory by doing a factory reset later this week when I have time. Problem should persist if it is the new radio. Will post back with the results.
OK did a factory reset this morning. I left all my apps off, and did not set back up any google account business. I basically left it as a standard mobile phone.
Within 7 hours, guess what....yes it's lost the connection again. Strongly believe this is a radio problem. I'm too noob to know if I can flash the radio without rooting. Anyone?
I have since submitted my complaint with HTC CS. Will await their response, and post it here.
In the interim, turning airplane mode off and on again does regain the connection, and I have installed an app from the market place called "No Coverage Alert". It will now beep and buzz if I loose the connection so at least I will be aware every time it bombs out. Far from ideal but should do for now.
Watch this space.
Yes i have tried the two radios posted but i havent tried any international ones such as europe or asia. I still randomly get network drop and i need to turn radio off and back on again for it to pick up.
Maybe i should ask a chef if these drops are logged anywhere on the device so i can root in and look at the logs myself and diagnose what the network drop is on my phone.
Just to confirm, tried multiple radios and roms, i know exactly what i am doing all i would like is explaination of why it happens. It is not user error as i have tried with stock rom, no fancy apps etc to stop it from working or changing config.
its got something to do with the network radio libs that need a service restart. i am 100% sure if i rooted in and knew which service to restart it would work also
Erm.... this is a little embarrassing but I feel I need to own up to prevent misleading anyone. I have arranged with HTC customer support to send my Desire back for repair. They pick it up Monday.
I bought a cheap £10 phone to keep me going. It arrived this morning. After I had finished laughing at it, I put the SIM card in and powered up the phone.
"No SIM card instered" was the message it greeted me with. After numerous power-up and power downs, and some SIM card hoakee-coakee, it finally recognised the SIM card......then dropped the signal to Orange. EXACTLY what my HTC Desire did.
Doh.
I had tried the SIM card in another phone (my girlfriends Blackberry) when the problems first started and it had worked straight away. But the SIM card seems to be random in it's failures. Should have tested more rigorously.
Sorry guys but in my instance it seems I have simply a faulty SIM card. The first one I have ever had go wrong in 12 years, but there you go. I was too fast to blame Android/HTC.
A|ex, please try your SIM card in another handset. Do several power-ups to see if it goes wrong. Would explain why trying numerous radios/ROMs has not helped you.
Let me know?
I had the same issue. Talked all day and evening, then toyed around with the phone a little, flashed a new ROM, no connection. oO okay, that's weird. Tried 3 different ROMs, reset to factory settings. Went to Orange, the SIM was borked. Thankfully, getting a new one took all of 5 minutes and didn't cost me a dime.
Yep. Was the SIM card. The new one arrived from Orange this morning. Popped it in and it's working straight away. My 3G has even improved slightly I reckon.
Six hours of use and not one drop yet.
Thank god for that.
I Just took my phone back to stock, locked bootloader state and that still did not work.
No amount off turning data on/off works and neither does switching from CDMA/LTE to CDMA.
Is there a number like *228 that i can call to try reactivating it?
Is there anything I can do short of taking it back?
and my wifes incredible 2 can connect to the 3G.
Have you taken the SIM out and booted the phone up without it and then powered it back down and then put the SIM back and powered it backup to see if that does it?

nope, but i will.
EDIT: Nothing.
powered down, simcard out, power on, powered off, simcard in, powered on.
Simcard out I was actually NOT on any network at 0dbm. Simcard in it says i am on a network, with signal of 120dbm...
booo
I sure hope these **** third party retailers have one still.
It takes a minute to connect sometimes...give it time ..toggle wifi helps.

i have been battling it all day.
Not once has it connected to 3G.
Am I really the only person with this problem?
crap.
You aren't the only one...I had to return mine. I hope they get their head out of their anatomy & fix their radio/signal strength issue. When they get it fixed I will get another one, but I didn't want to risk my return window ending before they get it straight.

This just started happening to me on my 20th day of having the phone...after over 2 hours sitting in the Verizon store yesterday they told me that a maintenance release was expected to be pushed out the end of January that "SHOULD" address this exact issue. Other than that they told me I was SOL.
So I am now carrying around a brick that is less than 30 days old. I am starting to wish I didn't trade in the Rezound I was borrowing until the nexus came out.
This happened to me 2 days ago. It is still not fixed.
I can connect to V's 4G, but when I toggle to CDMA, I get gray bars-no data connection.
I don't know if my 3G antennae got fried or what, but is there a way to reset it?
My Galaxy Nexus is rooted/unlocked but no ROMs.
I don't remember messing around with the radio.
I have tried rebooting, wifi-toggle, airplane mode toggle.
I have not tried flashing 4.0.2.
I have not tried removing the SIM card then turning it on.
I have not tried doing a factory reset.
Any suggestions?
I had this exact problem two days ago as well. I went to the Verizon store and the only thing they tried that worked was giving me a new SIM card. Try a new card. Why mine stopped working for 3G data I do not know.

I don't think it'll connect to any network if the sim card is out of the phone, its possible you have a bad sim card.

I do not have anything real helpful, but I can tell you that flashing 4.0.2, doing a factory reset, relocking the phone, or swapping out the SIM card does not help this situation.
Just out of curiosity...What method did you use to unlock your phone? I am just wondering if its a certain method of unlocking that is causing this issue. I am unaware of anyone having this problem that has not unlocked their phone.
I've got a GSM not CDMA version but I got 2 phones from different places. The first lasted 3 days before it stopped connecting to my network. It went back under warranty and was acknowledged there was a problem - awaiting return, it's being repaired now.
My second one had lasted around 3 weeks and is now doing the same thing. I'll be taking this one back as well.
My sim works perfectly fine in all my other phones (HTC's and iPhone's) so that can't be the problem.
First phone was unlocked and custom ROM loaded. Second one is as per factory, hasn't been touched so IMO it can't be related to any "customization".
IMO Samsung/Google should have waited another month and sorted these issues out before releasing the phone. I won't be buying another Samsung phone after this one
It just started happening to me a couple days ago. It was working fine. When I'm on wifi for a extended period and switch to 3G it won't connect. But I can connect to 4G. If I reboot the phone it will connect to 3G.

Now you've got me worried. I am hoping that VZW was going to issue a fix & then I would buy another Gnex. If it is gonna commit suicide 3 weeks later...
connection issues
I have had similar issue.
Powering phone off did not help. For whatever reason, pulling the battery reset my data connection.
Its happened twice as of today.

The same thing is happening to me. If im on wifi for a long time and try to go to 3g, i just get the 3g signal with gray bars and no data connection. The only way i can get it to work is by rebooting my phone. Im running bugless beast, which is a stock rom, but i dont think it has anything to do with it.
this just happened to me today. yesterday 3g was fine now nothing. and with lte constantly dropping this is just a glorified "stupid" phone. i contacted samsung support and they said i need to contact carrier. i reverted to stock and flashed stock recovery and locked phone and still no luck. rebooting and removing sim does nothing. we got screwed with an inferior product
I was experiencing these problems all day yesterday. No 3g, only 4g. Reverted to stock and tried everything listed in this thread with no success of gaining a 3g connection.
However, i looked at my phone this morning and i have 3g connectivity again. I'm going to assume there was some maintenance going on because it hasnt dropped since being awake
Hello all, long time lurker first time poster. First off this post is going to be pretty long, I apologize, but I think it's necessary to explain my situation in order to receive the best help I can get. For the tldr version skip to the bottom...
My first experience with Android was on a Huawei Ideos U8150 in late 2010. In California I used my Ideos with a H2O Prepaid SIM (no data). H2O uses AT&Ts network. The phone worked great! I loved it. I used Wi-Fi for my data and all was well. Fast forward a month or two and I moved to Vietnam.
In Vietnam I used my Ideos with Viettel. However, EVERY SINGLE TIME I put Viettel SIM in the phone the stock dialer app would crash and crash and crash. I was dumbfounded, WTF is my phone dialer crashing. I took the phone home and began to tinker with it. I discovered a few things after some time.
1) If I shut down, put the Viettel SIM in the phone and turned it on. The phone dialer would force close.
2) Then if I put the phone in Airplane mode the phone dialer app would stop force closing.
3) If I then shut down (while in airplane mode), wait a minute or two, turn it back on (it's back in airplane mode), wait about 10 minutes, turn off airplane mode, the phone dialer would NOT force close and actually get a signal! (If I waited only a minute or two after turning it back on it would still FC)
I was relived, I figured out how to get a signal! But it was a pain in the ass having to repeat the process. I lived with it for about a year. In that time I subscribed to Viettel 3G and the phone was fine. What does this have to do with a Galaxy Nexus? I'm getting to that part.
Yesterday, I picked up my brand new GSM Galaxy Nexus! I was sooo excited! I opened the box, admired my phone, popped open the battery cover, slid in the battery and SIM, turned on my phone and my excitement soon turned to frustration! The same damn problem!! The dialer kept force closing! I didn't think much of it since, hey I figured out how to get it working on my Ideos.
I repeated the process on my Galaxy Nexus and... it... did... not work. So now I am at a loss. I have no idea what to do now. I tried using my wifes SIM card (also on Viettel) on my Ideos and it works just fine. No voodoo dances or anything needed to get it working. I didn't get a chance to try her SIM on my Nexus but I will definitely do it as soon as I see her later tonight.
So now my only guess is that my SIM card is "bad". Can SIMs turn out bad? Can anyone shed some light? Does anyone have any tricks or tips for me? My Ideos stopped working correctly (touchscreen is wonky). So I would like to get my Nexus up and running as soon as possible. My wife suggested we go to Viettel and ask them to replace/exchange my SIM.
tldr: My Ideos with a Viettel SIM keeps crashing the stock phone dialer. I tried other Viettel SIMs and it works fine. I figured out a process to make it work. I picked up a Galaxy Nexus and my Viettel SIM again crashes my dialer. My process doesn't work on my Nexus. Suggestions?
OK, so I borrowed my wife's SIM and it worked on my Nexus. Needless, to say I was sure the culprit was my SIM. It's funny because it's been like that since day 1 on my Ideos. Anyways, this morning we headed down to our local Viettel office and transferred my SIM account to another SIM.
I popped the new SIM in and it works wonderfully. I guess this ends my "1 year saga". If I knew it was this easy I would have done it a long time ago on my Ideos.
Hi everyone,
I am having a little issue. I recently updated to KK and jut didnt like how it preformed. I .toted back to ZV7 to start fresh, this is when I noticed I had a sim card in my statusbar with a little X on it. Then I noticed that I had no LTE. I can't figure out if I did something wrong or what.
I had one of my developer friends walk me through a few things that he had to do on the G Flex, which was toting 5 or more time till that sim card was recognized, well mine still doesnt work. heck I even went into Sprint to have them check it out, and all they did was replace and scan in a new LTE card.
Could me Sim slot be turned off? or could it be fried?
I have had this issue sort of
i have had the lg g2 on sprint for about two months and i occasionally get a similar issue except it just says that there is no sim card inserted however my LTE is completely un hindered. and it would normaly correct its self after a couple reboots. is your device damaged in anyway and how long have you had the device,
It corrected itself over multi reboots. several days worth of reboots. The phone is now ongoing its 3rd week in immaculate condition. and its been babied, so no damage whatsoever.
My girlfriend has a Nexus 5x and T-mobile as a carrier. Ever since upgrading to Nougat, via OTA, she gets "com.android.phone" consistently throughout the day. Resetting the APNs helps temporarily but the issues appear again after every reboot and possibly throughout the day.
Initially we thought this may be an issue with the phone, we contacted google and got a replacement. Replacement has the same issue. It gets more strange, I have a Nexus 6p using Verizon, I have had Nougat for 1+ months with no issue. If we put her SIM card on my phone I get the exact same thing to happen on my phone, "com.android.phone" has crashed.
After the various tests we walked into the T-Mobile store, as we thought it may be an issue with the SIM. We received a new SIM card and the exact same issue happened on all 3 phones. Anybody have any ideas or thoughts? We are pretty desperate to get her a working phone, she has gone by to her old one plus one?
Appreciate the help.
[Edit]: Wanted to note my SIM card on her phone works just fine.
