Hello,
I am trying to root an LG G Pad 2 8.0 (V498) but i cannot find the subforum for it, it doesnt seem to exist...
Does anyone knows where i can find any infos for this model ?
thanks!
its a relatively new model, especially in Canada.
I got one from Fido Wireless, but the sticker says v497; I have the gpad 2 8.0, but with wrong sticker?
anyways, there are plenty of guides to try in the lg g3 forum along side the one click root methods like kingoroot, root genius, and more...
LTE / data units are v495, v496, v497, and the wifi only version g pad II is V498 all sport the same hardware features other than data of course. I've rooted my v495 using the method in the all info v496 thread and it looks like they are making headway in development.
Thank you, Bryan.
that clarifies things for me.
so, do we know whats being worked on? like recoveries, kernels, etc...?
if so, do we know about cross-compatibility for each model?
Hi there will anyone out there be able to direct me to the root method for the Lg G Pad
Rogers version v497 any help would be appreciated

Look here, use at your own risk, I recently bricked my V495 AT&T trying to load TWRP Custom recovery. Rooting was not a problem though.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/help/tmobile-gpad-f-8-0-v496-info-t3139894
Being that there is no v498 sub, I guess I'll side track this thread a little. Someone mentioned here that v495-v498 are all essentially the same hardware. My son cracked the screen on his v498. I found only 1 supplier selling a specific v498 screen, from China, for $90.. I have found plenty of the other models like v495 or v496 for a little cheaper and in the US. I'm wondering if anyone knows if these other LCD/Digitizers should work on the v498? I have it opened up and, I actually see a LG-V495 stamped in the plastic even though the back sticker says V498, so I am assuming the v495/v496 screens should work on this, but just want to verify before I order one.

This is a little late to the game, but here's what worked for me on the wifi-only LG G Pad II 8.0 (v498), and it might help others.
I used Kingroot (4.8.2) to root the tablet, then used Supersume Pro from the Play Store to remove Kingroot and install Supersu. (I'd tried a couple other methods for removing Kingroot first, but they didn't work, and Supersume Pro (v. 9.3.7) nworked really quickly and with zero pain, so that's the method I'd recommend. It does cost a few bucks, but IMO, it was worth it for the ease of use.) It's working perfectly. (Supersume Pro is available at the Play store at: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=darkslide.com.supersumepro -- can't post the link because I'm a new member.)
I've rooted before using clockwork mod, etc., on other devices, but Kingroot does make rooting simpler. If you don't trust Kingroot for rooting, another method might work, but I had trouble finding one specifically for this device.
Cons to using Kingroot (and keeping it):
1. It installs a cleaner app called "Purify" which you may or may not want, and which you have to install to get to the rooting screen. It can be uninstalled separately, though.
2. Kingroot really messed with my Okay Google app. It turns itself on in "Accessibility" mode (or however you might put that correctly), and when turned off from the Accessibility settings, Okay Google will work again. However, Kingroot "insists" on turning itself on in the Accessibility settings, and will keep resetting, overriding your setting. It may also hijack other aspects of the tablet that I didn't notice -- I replaced it with SuperSU shortly after rooting.
3. Many people are nervous about the amount of data sent to the Kingroot servers in China during the rooting process. I'm on the fence about whether it's dangerous or not. I think it potentially is -- regardless of the location or ownership of the servers -- but I have no idea whether it's *actually* dangerous or not. If that aspect worries you, you should try another method to root your tablet. I think I would have been more reluctant to use Kingroot if I had the version of this tablet with the sim card.
4. Kingroot is quite recalcitrant to removal and replacement. Two methods that I used to try to remove Kingroot (without unrooting the device) didn't work -- and even after the program was no longer on the tablet, I could not replace its su with a different binary. I had to reinstall and uninstall using SuperSume. I might have had better results replacing it with SuperSu manually if I'd been more patient, but I didn't want to spend too much time on it.
Pros to using Kingroot:
1. It's fast.
2. It requires little technical skill.
3. It can be removed and replaced with SuperSu (or, presumably, some other superuser manager), though that ranges from very easy (using SuperSume) to extremely difficult (especially if you don't play with rooting a lot -- and people with only one or two Android devices generally root once then forget it till the next time they need to root a new device, and so don't have a huge amount of experience with it).
I hope this helps someone!
I'm going to be receiving my tablet soon and since it's stuck with Android 5.0 I was hoping to find a custom ROM with Android 6 but it turns out there's not even a thread for this device. Does anybody knows of any ROMs for this device? I'm getting mine from Fido and it's also LTE enabled. Rooting is not required for me since I'm not really into customization much but having the latest version of Android is important.

I also have an V497 - Fido and would like to change the ROM since it becomes slow and almost unusable. Stuck on Android 5. Have you finally found any options like LOS or other working for G Pad II V495-V498 family?
Thanks in advance

I'm wondering this same thing. I find the lack of info on this model, or threads telling me how dumb I am for not already knowing this a little disconcerting. Is this what the cold shadowy void of internet feels like before things become so accessible? It's so dark!! Someone hold me.
Am I correct in my understanding that the Verizon sm-p605v plays by its own set of rules? I haven't had any luck with cf auto or TWRP or anything actually. It's an LT03LTEVZW, board: MSM8974.
Can someone help me understand the unique differences between the different models, build numbers, device names? Perhaps some brief insight on which of these specifications are the most significant in determining a device's uniqueness?
maybe I'm not asking the right questions but I'm hitting a brick wall trying to find any substantial info on this model. (Not all LTEs are created equal I assume?)

Verizon always includes locked bootloaders on their versions of devices. Eg. CF Auto Root won't work, can't flash recoveries in Odin, HTC and Moto devices are not unlockable via HTCDev/MotoDev, etc.
You could try running something like Saferoot or Kingo. Both of those have had reported successes on VZW Samsung KitKat devices. But YMMV and you do so at your own risk
Did I screw up?
I really need to root this thing like now. Got this with data and did prepay for my phone , saved $25 a month and now have 2 separate plans with over 6GB of data. I just need to root it. Got 15 days before I take it back and just order an unlocked version if I can't get it rooted.

So far as I've been able to determine, as long as you've not upgraded Kit Kat on your tablet to Android 5.11, rooting was no problem. Mine was unlocked, and not knowing, I upgraded to Lollipop. Well,I can, and do use a non-Verizon SIM, in my SM-P605v (SIM from T-Mobile), but have not been able to root the tablet as of this date. Still say this is the best of the best, and till Samsung releases something with much better specs they're going to have to pry my tablet from my cold, dead, hands. This thing is just remarkable!

ugh, really? This (and other similar sites) have been brought up before. Unless a Dev releases it on HERE or mentions about where he will release it on HERE, IGNORE THEM.
Give it a shot and report back.
Gonna run the .exe in a virtual machine to see what happens.

it seems like they cracked S7 already. Wonderful. *pun intended*
Yeah, I stumbled upon bogus sites like those back when I was trying to see if anybody ever rooted an Asus Fonepad 8. You know if someone rooted a relatively obscure device like that, there would also be a thread about it here.
For all of those that "stumble" upon this "root" method......don't post a question on if it works, just try it and see if it works......simply put, the Top Devs that have achieved root and unlocking bootloaders on various devices have not come up with a stable method as of yet, one of them does this type of work for a living, why would you think some third party site is able to crank out a root method on a device that just became available to the public and claims to have root for devices that do not exist yet??????????
Clearly, it will fail and will ask you to pay a fee for professional technical remote support. Then it will tell you they can not help and there is no refund.
Remember this, Root is NOT for everyone.

Root exploit was found by devs but it is dangerous. They are currently looking for other methods. Fortunately since those devs *can* root, they can dive deeper into the paritions and system to look for it. Easier to find a key inside a house then standing outside the gate.
Fortunately the LG phones are pretty solid and I personally need to change nothing. Outside of Xposed for Statusbar tweaks and themes, it is fine.
Full root..... Whatever. I want unlocked boot.
No, this is a scam/garbage...don't do it, won't work.

I agree. First LG phone for me. Previous devices were Samsung dating back to S2 all the way through S5. Felt that the removable battery and SD were too important to me to go with S6. Thus far, I'm much more impressed with the LG UI than Touchwiz. It's good without root. Could be great with it. Only two things I would use root for on this device. All of the ads are driving me nuts (short drive) and I really want to regain unlimited tethering. Fortunately, have T-Mobile so at least have 5 gb of tethering.

The primary reason I'm considering the G4 instead of any of the new Samsung models is to gain root. If I order the G4 now and it comes with 12a will I be able to root the phone right away?
Thanks,
Update: If the answer is no root for vzw 12a it will cost me $35. I just ordered it - 14 day return policy with $35 restocking fee.
I don't want to install a different ROM. Just gain root so I can run viper4audio, adfree, titanium, greenify (root) and other apps that need root access.

Verizon pulled the 12A firmware because it screwed up receiving Notifications over WiFi, specifically because of something with IPv6. This is NOT a LG specific issue but rather a Lollipop issue. The Nexus 5 and Samsung devices were hit too. There has been a fix for a while, but for some reason this update did not include those fixes and thus the update was pulled.
If you order a G4, it will come with 11A, which is rootable.
Even in a odd ball chance that you do get one with 12A, that is still rootable.
Although we are in the process of a Bootloader Unlock. At this time the process is only working on V0 devices (10A). Every update increases this version (11A = V1, 12A = V2). This "version" prevents users from flashing backwards. So if you update to 12A, you can not go back to 11A.
What this means is everyone is instructed to NOT update. In the event that they update the bootloader unlock to allow V1 devices, you will already be on V2.
While 12A fixes a few missed touches with the touchscreen (software issue), it ultimately will break ability to receive notifications over WiFi (there is a fix in the Play Store) and could hinder you unable to unlock your bootloader (for flashing custom roms and stuff) moving forward.
The G4 is an awesome device but at this time only the Tmobile and Sprint have custom recoveries. The Verizon is stuck with only root. We CAN "flash" stuff with an app, so things like Xposed and stuff are working. No big deal as there seems to be a lot of people working on this device to crack it open. I just want you to be informed when you make your purchase.
However LG is releasing a new phone coming out, the LG V10. It is basically the same phone but has a second display at the top for quick shortcuts, media controls, etc. So you may want to look into that too. Also the new Nexus Devices have just been release recently, which are other options. Me personally, I would recommend the G4 still. The DoubleTap2Wake/Sleep is so addicting and will change how you use your phone. It also has Wireless Charging (with an addition of a Qi Sticker). The addition of a second display looks pretty cool, but probably will only work with LG specific apps. No one knows if anyone will be able to customize the ability of the second screen. As for the Nexus devices, the 5X and the 6X are a little too small and a little too big for me. The LG Nexus would be my first choice out of the 2015 Nexii. However the LG software is very very cool. It is AOSP enough but has very useful little changes that will be missed on a bland AOSP rom (floating dialer, messaging, clip board, etc). Also DoubleTap2Wake is finicky on the AOSP roms. So if you desire the need to use AOSP, go with one of the Nexus. If you are sold on the G4 (like I am) then just do it. You'll be good.
UPDATE:
Just saw your Ninja edit with making the purchase. Worry not. Welcome to the community.
Hi player911,
Thanks for the great welcome to the LG G4 community! I did make the decision to not worry about the V10 and appreciate your opinion on that. I'm excited about the phone, I've been on the Note 2 forever. Didn't use the stylus much (the times I did to make quick notes I can instead just use pen and paper and "scan" it with the camera into OneNote.) Verizon already shipped it Fedex, will probably get it Monday.

I'm thinking about upgrading from my Samsung S4 to the LG G4. I primarily use my phone for some moderate/heavy graphics gaming, normal phone calling/texting/photos, and tethering as my main home internet. It seems like from what I've read that the easiest way to root the G4 is to take the OTA 13b update then flash a rooted image that's posted in the forums correct? Would you guys recommend this phone for what I need out of it? My main reason for upgrading is because my S4 overheats easily while I download things when tethering. Also, I hate phones that don't have a removable battery or lacks a microsd slot. Have you guys noticed any extreme overheating issues where the phone will close down apps or shutdown completely? Let me know your thoughts, thanks!

I havent used a Samsung phone since the Galaxy Nexus so I can't directly compare but I did come from the HTC One M7 which was a great phone. With that said, I find the G4 to be the best phone I have used in a long time. It just works. It is fast, has an incredible screen and doesnt have to too much LG skinning over Android UI. I haven't noticed any overheat issues with it, and like you I love the fact that the battery is removable. Usually I get more than a full days worth out of the battery, but on really heavy usage days its nice to be able to put my other battery in and not worry about my phone dying.
As far as rooting goes, if you by the G4 then taking the OTA and rooting from there is your best bet. I personally prefer this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-100-root-success-directives-root-t3180586 because it is easy to follow and it will provide you with a backup of your stock system image incase something goes wrong and you want to quickly go back to stock or to your last good configuration. If you don't want to root your own, you could just use one of the existing pre-rooted images and skip to step 3 of the tutorial I linked.
The only thing I don' t like about this phone is that the bootloader the carrier devices, which means no custom ROMS unless your on the international unlocked version. There was work happening on unlocking the bootloader for our devices but last I checked it would only work with the VS986 version 10 software, so all of us on 11a, 12b, or 13b are SOL until they figure out how to unlock our bootloaders. Besides that, I love this phone.
Thanks for your response! I ended up buying it so that's great to hear! My S4 bootloader was locked as well. Seems like all Verizon phones from now on will have bootloader locked unless it's the Google phones.
quick question, i am in 10B version and can i use the root injection in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-100-root-success-directives-root-t3180586) to root the device?

You should be able to. AFAIK it works for all software versions.
Is there thread that suggests what to do first with a new stock Note 4?
Root first?
Popular ROM?
Thanks
If you have the Verizon Note 4 you are stuck with stock as the boot loader is locked and no root exploit has been developed.

There's a thread called 'Desktop Setup' a little further down the main screen of the forum. I only took a brief glance, but it looks like it's other Note 4 owners showing how they have their phones setup. I just mainly setup mine to reflect how I had my S4 set. Unfortunately, though, the last post before mine is correct in saying root hasn't been achieved for this device yet. However, if you're looking to be able to use your phone as a mobile hotspot, you can purchase the full version of FoxFi for $7.95, or try the free version to see how you like it. The free one limits you to 5 megs per use, I think, before it disconnects you. I'm using the full version of the app to tether to my desktop right now, and it works pretty well. You can't turn it on with one tap like you can a rooted phone's hotspot, but you can turn off that way once you're done. The app lets me provide Wi-Fi for my XBox One, Tab 3 8.0, and Fire TV, too. Even though I can't root my phone yet, I still enjoy using it. Hope this helps, and sorry I rambled on a bit.

Haven't tried it yet, but I'm itching to give it a shot. I already downloaded the root file, but probably won't touch it til after this weekend, and the fact I got my phone set up the way I like it. I know this isn't the right thread, but before I make the decision to try this can anyone confirm that FoxFi works on 5.0.1? I'm currently on 4.4.4 and don't want to jump forward if it doesn't, since I need the hotspot. I know I can roll back to KitKat, but I'd lose all my stuff

Cool. The build in the post pointing to a possible root is showing 'Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon USA) SM-N910V VZWVerizon wireless N910VVRU2BOF1 5.0.1', which has me somewhat hopeful, with a side of skepticism. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread for any updates, hopefully good ones.
The file for root at the bottom says "Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon USA) SM-N910V" but has smn910f (SM-N910F (Europe)) in the file name for the zip.
Please tell me you guys are not serious???? Look at the date this crap was posted 7th July. Do you honestly think no one has tried it yet and come on the forums to scream about it. Very dodgy looking site also.
Take it easy, no point in getting worked up about it. We're all just looking for ANY glimmer of a lead for root.

And how is a 5 month old post a glimmer of hope. Most People on this forum have had their note 4s for a long long time and have been following and hoping for the one post that will spring up "That root has been achieved" it doesn't help with you posting the same thing in 3 different threads about some rubbish that has been posted 5 months ago from a website that looks like it was thrown together the same day they posted the root instructions. If anything comes up it will be posted on XDA almost immediately I can guarantee it.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh but everyone on here has been waiting a long time I see your only new to this and also had a chance to return.
The problem is No one appears to be working on anything, you only have to look at the thread "Lets talk root" I don't see any one talking about how root may be obtained and I include myself in that. What needs to happen is for this Note 4 community to start posting ideas in that thread or start a bloody new one. I am willing to use my phone as a guiney pig but come on people lets start talking about how we may obtain root and start experimenting. I will flash anything any one wants to my phone so lets take it over to the "Lets talk Root" forum.
Rant Over
Believe me, I understand your frustration as I've rooted every Android device I've had, till now of course. If we get, we get it. If not, oh well. I have more important things to concern myself with than whether I can root my phone or not. I'm sure the person who originally posted the link was only trying to help and not cause any tension. I wish I could root this thing, but get grip, it's still just a phone.
