So I have wifi enabled and its connected but whenever I try to load any app that requires internet it has the cloud with a line through it but it doesn't have that symbol when your on the clock screen (main screen) unless I turn off wifi. Does anyone know how to actually get apps to load data with wifi only? TIA

You need the phone on WiFi or 3g etc as well ..

I mainly use 3g to browse the internet with opera, but if i connect to my wireless network and open opera it continues to use 3g. Is their any way i can make it use wireless? I thought it should automatically but it doesn't.
Thanks for any help.
be connected just to wifi
Is that the only way? I use push email that uses 3g and would sooner not disconnect that when i want to use opera over wifi.
I've just checked Internet explorer and that's fine using wifi, but opera still refuses to use it and sticks with 3g. Does anyone elses Touch HD do this?
I'll have a look at mine in a minute, but need to ask a daft question, how can i tell which data source the HD is using for its internet information at any one time?

You can go onto google and search for 'whats my ip' and use one of them sites to see if its your ip address or one used by your operator. Thanks very much.
Sorry, that took a bit longer than a minute.
Opera is using wifi here. However, when I first boot up my phone in my house (i.e. in wifi range) data connection is turned off and wifi is turned on by default. However, even if i switch on the data connection and fire up opera, it still uses wifi rather that 02 mobileweb.
I may talk a wlk down the street later and i'll see if the data connection will come on at bootup if a wifi isn't available
Have you tried going to settings->connections tab->connections->advanced tab->select networks and changing the default connection to "My Isp" or "My work network".
This may help although I have had very similar problems with opera using 3g instead of wifi. I reported the problem HTC and after an absolute age they wrote back saying "That shouldn't happen" without any real advice on what to do next. Since then I have always turned 3g off when turning wifi on. I used to use push email but of course turning off 3g buggers that up so I have settled for syncing every 15 minutes and as a side benefit that seems to have improved battery life.

I've tried what you have suggested and opera did use the wifi, however when i turn wifi off it won't use 3g until i go back into those settings and set it to do so.
I've noticed that if i turn my phone on and don't use the 3g connection opera will use wifi fine, but once i turn wifi off or go out of range and use 3g then return to wifi opera refuses to use it and sticks with 3g. I just don't understand why it's fine using wifi so long as it hasn't used 3g.
How I disallow any application to connect to the internet in HD?
Just to make sure not charged.
no data from modaco
is that just for grps? I am using 3g. was wondering whether that will work or not.
use HD tweak
there's is an option to disable data connection, for people who are on vacation
I personally find that HD Tweak doesn't always work for all roms, and if you try to connect t to wifi using certain apps, GPRS is still used.
Use No Data and toggle off connection so only wifi is avilable for phone to use, therefore no data connection. If you want to use data connection at any time, toggle it back on. Simple, yet effective
Well guys I tried installed nodata.cab and did a reboot.
But it still activates my 3G or if available HSPDA connection.
Am I missing somthing?
But on the other hand, the on of switch of your data connection should do just that.....stay off. Whats the use of an off switch if it self activates all the time. Imagine all your light coming on at home when it gets dark!

Have you toggled it off in the app?, i.e. Internet & WAP
I have HD Tweak installed but none of the settings used, but I find that when using the 3G internet, if I press the end call key (bottom right) once, it ends internet connection for me. If I hold the end key down its set to keypad lock.
no data doesn't work at all for 3g hspda connection. That is a dangerous application name I would say.
Is this phone supposed to seamlessly switch between wifi and mobile data connections (and vice-versa)?
Mine doesn't seem to do this. For example, if I am loading a web page using mobile (3G or LTE), then I turn on wifi, the loading ceases, and the browser gives me a connection error.
I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I would think the phone / OS would know enough to wait for and use the new connection. But it doesn't seem to do this.
So today I flashed this update for 4.1.2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387423
And I noticed the 4G LTE icon is always there when I am sitting at my home wifi. Is this normal or what could it be?
Edit: Under Settings > About device > Status > Mobile Network state is always "Connected".
IP Address is always the mobile IP and not the WiFi IP...
Edit 2: If data is turned on and wifi is connected, phone cannot access online services at all unless in airplane mode with wifi on...
Anyone???

It means that the phone is using your providers network, if you were on wireless for example as you know how it normally looks, the network data icon goes away, If you were to send a text or use a program that does not use wifi, it will then use cell data. Maybe you have a rogue app or service running. Have you tried to wipe your cache and dalvik? You could also be connected with wifi but not have internet access through it, thus enabling the network again while wifi is on.

I've checked the network connection over and over again, but from what I see, the icon never goes away and its been more than a day, so I'm gonna try wipe cache and dalvik and if not, I might have to do an Odin stock (hopefully not).
I also noticed that from jst downloading an app through the Play Store, I get a system notification (the ones that appear in a gray box at the bottom of the screen) that I have XXX.X MB left of memory...
I don't know how to make the phone only use Wifi when connected although all settings I know are turned off. Only way to fix it is to turn off mobile data but then when loosing wifi I have to reswitch it on manually
do you have download booster enabled as that keeps both data connections active as it will use both for for files above about 30meg I believe. the only other time I've seen it is with an unstable wifi connection the phone will seemingly keep 4G active and run that as well.
in the first case it will show the 4G over the wifi signal box with the little symbol with a lightning bolt at the top to the side of it, in the second case it was showing the wifi signal bar and 4G side by side, changing from a weaker/faulty router was the only fix I found for the second one.
Go to deveper mode and turn off mobile data always active.
