I don't know how to make the phone only use Wifi when connected although all settings I know are turned off. Only way to fix it is to turn off mobile data but then when loosing wifi I have to reswitch it on manually
do you have download booster enabled as that keeps both data connections active as it will use both for for files above about 30meg I believe. the only other time I've seen it is with an unstable wifi connection the phone will seemingly keep 4G active and run that as well.
in the first case it will show the 4G over the wifi signal box with the little symbol with a lightning bolt at the top to the side of it, in the second case it was showing the wifi signal bar and 4G side by side, changing from a weaker/faulty router was the only fix I found for the second one.
Go to deveper mode and turn off mobile data always active.

Hello, droid incredible, non rooted.
I have a full and strong wifi signal at my house. However, sometimes when I go to turn my phone back on from when the screen is off, I will realize that in have not been connected to the internet. It shows full bars in wifi. I have to turn off wifi and then back on to get it back. Happens several times a day. VERY annoying. However, my connection seems to be ok at my work's wifi and other places.
Sometimes my 3g seems to not with quite right, in have to toggle airplane mode on and them back off to reconnect...
Any thoughts? Hardware?
OH, and the wifi sleep policy is set to Never.
ALso, my laptop and my desktop are on the network and they don't drop their wifi connection, only my phone...
Hello.
I just noticed when my phone connected to wifi network, the 4G icon still shows some back and forth activity.
Does anyone know why is that?
I have a Verizon G4 and have one major gripe.
At my workplace, the wifi is somewhat spotty and it's a guest network that requires authenticating (clicking an "i agree" button)
So my phone will, throughout the day, as it detects the "weak" signal, automatically turn off that network due to "unreliable internet connection".
Even as I'm back in an area with a strong signal, now my phone is ignoring that and stuck trying to use mobile network. I have to go into my network list and manually tell it to reconnect.
During all of this, wifi is enabled the entire time.
I see where others have had the same problem on other phones and have turned off "Smart Network Switch" and I even read where someone had done this on a LG G4 (not verizon).
So I'm thinking this is something Verizon removed. Anyone have any ideas?
Smart Network Switch is just a feature that checks for a "data" connection over wifi and switches to use Mobile Data if WiFi loses internet access.
I am not sure the G4 has this. When I am connected to WiFi with a bad signal, it will just send me a popup telling me the WiFi has no internet access and whether to use Mobile Data or not. The feature you are looking for is "Avoid bad WiFi Connections", which is the same thing with a different name. Just make sure that is OFF. That will force WiFi to use WiFi as the only connection.
And it sounds like your wireless network sucks and needs to be upgraded to a corporate solution.
Just FYI, in my WiFi > Advanced WiFi settings, I have everything unchecked + "Keep WiFi on when screen is off" = Yes.
Well "avoid bad Wi-Fi connections" is off. Read on another forum that the mobile version I think it was had the smart network option.
I have the same options as you except I also allow Wi-Fi scanning.
I have tried with that one both on and off and see the same behavior.
I never get a popup, it just ignores that wifi connection and used mobile data. When I look at my Wi-Fi list, it'll say something about unreliable internet connection in small text,on the Wi-Fi network that it disconnected from. Surely I'm not the only one seeing this.. :/
Beats me. Sounds like the Access point you are connecting to has a bad internet connection. What is happening is you are connected to the WiFi and it notices that the WiFi AP is either dropping internet connection (Google pings google servers to test connections) or bouncing.
In order to keep from losing a data connection, it seems to be switching to your cellular network.
I see this often because we install APs (I am a network engineer). I think your phone is trying to protect you and that is normal behavior. Here is another scenerio: In a hotel, wifi is always set to OPEN. If your phone automatically connects to the hotels network, you will lose a data connection because Hotels require you to "sign-in", just like most free wifi places do. The phone sees that your phones WiFi connection is not accessing the internet and making sure you are good.
I am not sure how often it "checks" the wifi for a good connection or if it ever does once it switches.
Hello guys!
Here is the deal. I hope somebody is able to help me. I have a galaxy s6 920p with the ramified ROM (OH1 version on OI1 band) that works perfectly except for this weird issue. So, i am in Peru and i unlocked my phone, it works perfectly with my local carrier on LTE or 3G depending on the coverage EXCEPT when i connect to a wireless network(WIFI), if i do so my LTE 3G icon will dissapear as expected and be replaced with the WIFI bars and i would then be on Wifi internet which is fine. The problem comes when i move away from wifi signal or turn off the WIFI myself, the signal bar will remain full and i can make and receive calls normally but there will be a "!" sign next to it indicating that the mobile data is not working, the only way to fix this is by either rebooting the phone or setting it to flight mode for around 10 seconds and then bringing it back to normal, which makes my mobile data start working normally until the next time i turn on the WIFI. I have also noticed that my APN gets unticked everytime i connect to WIFI, regardless of this sometimes (i would say 30%) if i turn off the wifi the 3g/lte connection will resume normally. I am a pilot and sometimes i keep my phone without airplane mode, in the air i lose signal but as soon as i regain ground i recover my lte/3g, so this also indicates me that is not something related to the reconnection of signal itself but something regarding the WIFI. I hope you guys have any clue of what is going on here because it is really annoying and i haven't found any info about this. TY in advance!!!!
Hi,
I think it happens after a system profile switch when jumping my my car, the profile turns
the wifi off otherwise the bluetooth keeps dropping out. then I get out of the car and wifi is
turned back on, but I might not be in range of a wifi, so I'm relying on lte, but my mobile signal
strength icon just says telstra, and mobile data doesn't work. If I reboot, the icon says lte and
data works.
got any ideas?
with the system profiles, I don't change the prefered network type, but I've tried setting it to LTE
with no effect.
oh I just had a thought, there's a setting somewhere about turning off mobile data when wifi is on,
and there was a warning that it might make switching from wifi to mobile data slower. but I can't find
that atm, and it does seem like it would cause my issue.
