[Q] Wifi connection dropping but still strong signal.... - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, droid incredible, non rooted.
I have a full and strong wifi signal at my house. However, sometimes when I go to turn my phone back on from when the screen is off, I will realize that in have not been connected to the internet. It shows full bars in wifi. I have to turn off wifi and then back on to get it back. Happens several times a day. VERY annoying. However, my connection seems to be ok at my work's wifi and other places.
Sometimes my 3g seems to not with quite right, in have to toggle airplane mode on and them back off to reconnect...
Any thoughts? Hardware?

OH, and the wifi sleep policy is set to Never.
ALso, my laptop and my desktop are on the network and they don't drop their wifi connection, only my phone...

Wifi bug

Hey guys,
Is there a bug since the last OTA update with the wifi not letting the 3G connection access data when wifi is on? Seems like I have to turn off wifi for the 3G to pull data.
Its not an issue when I have a strong wifi signal, but when its weak, or non-existent, the phone does not seem to switch over to the stronger 3G signal.
It was definitely not like this before the OTA.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
I am pretty sure when you are connected to wifi, it kills the 3g because the wifi can replace any 3g data connection

It has always been like this, wifi will always overwrite 3g

I understand that wifi is a faster connection than 3G, but when there isn't a wifi connection, or there is a super spotty wifi signal, the phone doesn't switch over to 3G anymore.
hmmm. I am pretty sure mine turns off when when I am out of range. But if I am still close to the router it kinda poops out and sticks on wifi. I will check when I am out later.
The only suggestion I have is to put a wifi power widget on one of your screens to easily switch off if you are on a spotty network

yep, that's what I've resorted to doing for now. I'm 99% certain that it wasn't like this before that last OTA update. The only reason I ever had to turn wifi off before was when I was using my bluetooth headset.
Here is a little test you could try. IMO it should check to see if you dont fall back to 3G when you lose wifi signal.
Have wifi turned on and connected. Go to setting-wireless & networks-wifi settings. Where it says wifi network press the network you are connected to and press forget. This will disconnect you from that network and it should fall back to evdo. If it does then it is working properly.

[Q] Doesn't reconnect to 4G when screen is off

I've noticed that since the 2.3.6 update, my phone no longer will reconnect to the 4G data network when the screen is off, and wifi calling is active. In order to keep wifi calling active, I set my phone's wifi sleep policy to "Never". Here is the exact scenario:
1) At home or work, my phone activates wifi calling when it connects to the local wifi network. This causes it to disconnect from the cellular voice and data networks.
2) At some point, I leave the wifi area while my phone is in my pocket and the screen is off.
3) The next time I turn the screen on, I see that the 4G icon is gone, but immediately appears as the phone connects.
While this may be a minor inconvenience, it means that all services that rely on the data network (Gmail, Skype, etc) will fail until the screen has been turned on once. Has anyone else observed this?

Losing WiFi Connection Intermittently

Here's the deal: my S2 keeps disabling its WiFi connection. I’ll be connected to my router for a while, sometimes for 12+ hours at time, when all the sudden my S2 will lose its WiFi connection and switch to 4G. When I go into my WiFi settings, it will say that my router is “Not in range” and show no other available networks (even though there are dozens in this area).
I can sometimes get my connection back by toggling Airplane mode or “use packet data” on/off. But nothing works %100 percent of the time. I don’t think it’s a router issue either because we had 4 smartphones in this house over Christmas and the only two that lost their WiFi connection were my and my wife’s S2s.
Anyone else encounter this?
(p.s. Phone is stock, by the way.)
If you have the Tmobile my account disable or uninstall it.I made a thread about this awhile back. It has something where it needs to stay connected to 4g or intermittently puts data on and cuts wifi off I used to have this problem before not no more after uninstalling it.
Thanks, sarni. I read your thread a couple days ago (when I was trying to figure out what was going on), but I'm not sure we're having the same issue. My WiFi and 4G icons aren't on at the same time, for instance.
The other problem is that I haven't rooted my phone, so uninstalling T-Mobile's "My Account" app isn't an option.
Yet.
Happening again now.
Phone seems to be stuck in the following loop: scanning for available WiFi networks, seeing them all, locking in on my WiFi network, trying to obtain an IP address, then back to scanning again without a connection.
No toggling of settings broke the loop until I powered on/off.

Wifi on, Cellular signal nearly gone

Just got a note 3 for tmo, currently my device is unrooted and fully stock. I noticed that my wifi being on, it works great but cell signal is near gone...sometimes even wont let a text get sent. as soon as i turn off wifi cell signal is perfect same as on my note 2 or that G2 i got rid of.
i noticed the following....
Wifi signal switching feature on or off, cell signal still is gone.
Wifi on, wifi calling on or off signal still suffers, in fact i even disabled wifi calling from the application manager for now. (never did like wifi calling)
Wifi on, make a phone call signal still stays low.
Wifi off, cell signal strong
Wifi off, make a call all is even better.
So, whats the deal? is there a fix? A search only came up with a thread about turning off the wifi switching thing in advanced features, but like i said it dont matter or work. any other search talks about wifi and it dropping and or about wifi calling dropping calls....
edit, i looked in the system setting, and noticed that the signal in my house right now says -90. turn wifi on, network says unknown from LTE, and sits at -90.
turn wifi off, network says LTE and signal still stayed at -90 (it did change a little but stayed at average of -90)
it seems as if the signal bars just dont show up with wifi on. like it cant walk and chew gum at the same time (cant show wifi bars and cellular signal bars at the same time)
what threw me off was when i couldnt send a text until i turned wifi off.
i also disabled wifi calling from my account level as well. didnt change anything.
do these phones need the sim that came in then box? my sim came from a note 2.
It is odd, but I have the same behavior. When I'm on WiFi, I have no bars for my mobile signal despite there being no change in the signal related parts of About Device->Status
So, no real answer, but you're not the only one seeing this.
Turn on Wi-Fi calling. Make a call to ur vm. End call. Go to setting click Wi-Fi calling and then connection preference. Then click prefer cell network. Wait 5 seconds then shut off Wi-Fi calling. Should be fixed
TWEAKED 2.0 NOTE 3
I have no idea why, but this worked. I already had the 'Prefer mobile network' option set and Wi-Fi calling disabled, but this little dance corrected the problem. Thanks for the tip!

amazing, i didnt make a call, all i did was turn wifi calling on, then off and all the sudden cell signal worked with wifi on. but for some reason, my phone app FC when i tried to look at the connection preferences. not that i care i dont use WIFI calling as it sounds like crap or is choppy for some reason. (well in the past it was) thanks! now i can actually use wifi!
I called someone the other day i had wifi on, and the person couldnt hear me half the time. next phone call was wifi off and everything worked perfectly. very odd bug, im shocked that it hasnt been corrected yet.

Only default text app (Hangouts or any from the Play Store can't) can send MMS and SMS through WIFI.

Radio keeps turning off

I work in a building that has really bad connection to the data network. Whenever I unlock my phone, it always show full white bars but no indication of H or LTE, which means I am not getting data. It takes awhile before the phone then connects to the network again, albeit very slow.
Is my phone disconnecting from the data network when it is idle? When connection is weak? Is it trying to conserve battery from always trying to communicate with a weak signal? Anyway I can disable this delay to reconnect since I can still receive data but just slow?
i have a problem when my phone switches from wifi i will have bars but it will show a small x in the bars and i have to go into airplane mode for a few seconds then turn airplane mode off to get data working again... really annoying.
not sure if related, but the radio seems a bit wonky
