I've noticed that since the 2.3.6 update, my phone no longer will reconnect to the 4G data network when the screen is off, and wifi calling is active. In order to keep wifi calling active, I set my phone's wifi sleep policy to "Never". Here is the exact scenario:
1) At home or work, my phone activates wifi calling when it connects to the local wifi network. This causes it to disconnect from the cellular voice and data networks.
2) At some point, I leave the wifi area while my phone is in my pocket and the screen is off.
3) The next time I turn the screen on, I see that the 4G icon is gone, but immediately appears as the phone connects.
While this may be a minor inconvenience, it means that all services that rely on the data network (Gmail, Skype, etc) will fail until the screen has been turned on once. Has anyone else observed this?

For the last couple months when the screen goes off or i leave the phone for a while, gtalk will "loose connection to the server" and wont recive messages , sometimes the same goes for email.
i have all the settings to keep the connection on when screen goes off etc.
is their a solution for this
thanks
Maybe settings for your Wi-Fi or data connection?
Have you set your Wifi Policy to never sleep?
In Wifi Settings, press Menu and then advanced. Set it to never sleep, otherwise your wifi will disconnect when you put the phone into standby.
If it's not that, not sure what it could be.
yh i checked that setting, i tested on 3g now, it seems on 3g theirs no disconnects, so as its only wifi i can only imagine it may be my router etc, not a phone issue
Hello, droid incredible, non rooted.
I have a full and strong wifi signal at my house. However, sometimes when I go to turn my phone back on from when the screen is off, I will realize that in have not been connected to the internet. It shows full bars in wifi. I have to turn off wifi and then back on to get it back. Happens several times a day. VERY annoying. However, my connection seems to be ok at my work's wifi and other places.
Sometimes my 3g seems to not with quite right, in have to toggle airplane mode on and them back off to reconnect...
Any thoughts? Hardware?
OH, and the wifi sleep policy is set to Never.
ALso, my laptop and my desktop are on the network and they don't drop their wifi connection, only my phone...
(this from tmobile forum)
An App runs and turns on 4G thus OFF WiFi, even when user is using WiFi with the phone. The hypothesis is that the TMobile account app runs and requires 4G.
You could say that the issue is that when WiFi is turned On, 4G is not disabled, and when WiFi disconnects or is turned Off, why is 4G not re-enabled. Then, when WiFi is detected and it should be on, this cycle starts.
So the WiFi setting should be to run when available (and turn 4G off automatically).
so this could be a bug in GS2, and would be fixed in an update I'd think..
Anybody know about this? thanks.

Here's the deal: my S2 keeps disabling its WiFi connection. I’ll be connected to my router for a while, sometimes for 12+ hours at time, when all the sudden my S2 will lose its WiFi connection and switch to 4G. When I go into my WiFi settings, it will say that my router is “Not in range” and show no other available networks (even though there are dozens in this area).
I can sometimes get my connection back by toggling Airplane mode or “use packet data” on/off. But nothing works %100 percent of the time. I don’t think it’s a router issue either because we had 4 smartphones in this house over Christmas and the only two that lost their WiFi connection were my and my wife’s S2s.
Anyone else encounter this?
(p.s. Phone is stock, by the way.)
If you have the Tmobile my account disable or uninstall it.I made a thread about this awhile back. It has something where it needs to stay connected to 4g or intermittently puts data on and cuts wifi off I used to have this problem before not no more after uninstalling it.
Thanks, sarni. I read your thread a couple days ago (when I was trying to figure out what was going on), but I'm not sure we're having the same issue. My WiFi and 4G icons aren't on at the same time, for instance.
The other problem is that I haven't rooted my phone, so uninstalling T-Mobile's "My Account" app isn't an option.
Yet.
Happening again now.
Phone seems to be stuck in the following loop: scanning for available WiFi networks, seeing them all, locking in on my WiFi network, trying to obtain an IP address, then back to scanning again without a connection.
No toggling of settings broke the loop until I powered on/off.
Not sure what settings to tweak on my home router, but I have tried many different option on Asus AC68U router. The problem happens on my home router mostly and my work wifi works just fine.
My phone shows that Wifi calling is active on the notification bar, but as soon as I dial a number and hit talk, it acts as if it is connecting and then wifi calling suddenly becomes unavailable and dialing is stopped. I then pickup 0-1 bar of cell tower signal.
I then have to wait about 2-3 minutes for wifi calling to auto reconnect and becomes active on the status bar. If I dial a number again immediately, it works great this time around. If I let it sit idle for some time, the problem happens again.
Something seems to be making wifi calling timeout(?) but phone thinks it is still connected. If I do the dialing as soon as Wifi calling becomes active it works great (probably not timed out or something at that time).
I am rooted but on stock sprint rom.
Anybody else have similar wifi calling issues? If so, did you have to setup your router different?
