Performance Control app, overclocking - Amazon Fire Phone

Has anyone tried installing the Performance Control app and messing with the CPU settings? Is there any reason why this shouldn't work? I tried searching but didn't find any info on this. It might be cool to have a possibility of overclocking the device, or potentially underclocking it to improve battery life.
I'm using the latest Slimkat, and I love it. Haven't tried CM yet.

With our luck, the chances are none of the CPU governors are built in to the kernel other than the most basic. If you have the knowledge, build a governor module and try to make it work with one of the performance control apps. I have posted instructions on how to build a kernel module over the android development forums.

It requires kernel that supports overclocking. We dont have that yet. But overall this phone is pretty fast. Id be happy if we could one day have a fully functional camera and nfc.

Why would you want to overclock??

I agree that an overclock for this phone isn't necessary. It's not like, for example, the HP Touchpad, which greatly benefited from it. I was just curious if it was possible.

Do we need SetCPU apps when we have CM 7.0.3 Stable ?

I am a newbie on rooted phones. Just rooted the phone to CM7.0.3 Stable and found out that we have a setting to change the Govenors, currently set using SMARTASS with 245/729.
One question, is it nessesary to install apps such as Setcpu to overclock? or it is just adequet to use the setting in CM7 ? Will both conflict each other? Many thanks
Its useful I think, because you can setup CPU speeds for certain things, such as when your screen is off or when the battery drops below a certain threshold.

depends on you need dude. playing games/ watching videos/ hearing music/ simple phone usage/ battery conservation etc. stock one dont have profiles. but 3rd party like set cpu have it. so that it auto switches profiles according to ur present phone status.

SetCPU is much more useful than the cyanogenmod CPU functions, I did use the cyanogenmod one but I didn't see any changes

yes, the good things are the profiles! but I'm not sure if underclocking the processor really saves battery since i've heard that its just a saying/placebo

Yeah I think your right, strangely enough I think it's the same with overclocking, I put mine up to 700ish MHz and the battery still lasts just as long, I expected a reduction in battery life!

[Q] Over/Under clocking

I was wondering on how exactly I do this? I looked through and seen people talking about it, but not how to do it. Can someone explain to me what it does, and how to do it?

There are actually several ways to do this. The most popular of which are to have a rooted rom, install a separate application and use that application to modify your cpu speed. The more popular applications to do this are:
SetCPU
ROM Toolbox
ROM Toolbox light
I've used all of these and if I could suggest one to you, I would say ROM Toolbox, because it gives you a lot of other tools that SetCPU does not. HOWEVER, I find that in regards to overclocking/underclocking and setting profiles, SetCPU is much more handy and offers more customization.

Is there any certain configuration that you find best? Thanks for all the links and suggestions also!
System tuner pro is also nice. There is no " right" settings. Your phone might not like my settings profile. They are all different. I do however under clock. I see no lag on cm9 beta1. I use a Max CPU of 1ghz. I also under volt everything by -25 because -50 on Evert step crashes my phone. Yours may like it. Just remember do not push the set on boot button until you are sure your phone can handle the new setting.

It is pretty much a try what works. I find that over clocking is nice for certain things, but I like to have a long battery life as well, so I have mine set up so that the CPU is usually running ondemand 800-200 and for certain programs, ondemand 1200-500 and when the screen is turned off it is ondemand 500-200. I haven't had any problems and my battery life is generally very nice. Everyone's phone is different though.

Voltage Control

Installed it but dont have the voltages tab like on my SGT. Only available tabs are General, Device Info and About.
Do I need to do anything else for it to give the voltages adjustment options?

Are you using a custom kernel? Stock kernel doesn't allow voltage or clock control.
Personally I am using Perseus kernel (by AndreiLux) , it comes with STweaks which allow you to control a wide range of settings : voltages, CPU and GPU clocks, governors, audio tweaks.. and it closes the recently discovered exynos exploit.
I guess that is the reason! I am on stock kernel.
Any other kernel suggestions? I am quite quite happy with my note performance in almost every way so wanted to play with voltages for curiosity reason only. If I flash a custom kernel I still want to maintain the stability of stock without need for any fancy stuff.

I am a happy camper with RedPill v1.0. But this surely depends on your personal taste, there are quite a few others as well.

[Q] Undervolting and other kernel fratures

Hi everyone I find difficult to understand some of the kernel features that the devs have implement into our device, all the information I find is not very clear so I'm wondering if you could help me to understand this topics and if you could share your configuration and your experience. (I'm using Fancy Kernel r30 extended and TricksterMod app)
Features I cant understand and don't know how to use:
Undervolting
Smart Reflex
Core Voltages
IVA Voltages
MPU Voltages
Regulator Voltages
My goal is understand this settings and get a better battery life and performance in my phone.
Thanks in advance.

I used search. Took me less than 1 min to write "xdadev undervolting" at Google Search and get the results.

[Q] Custom Kernel, Any Advantages?

I'm not really looking for anything in particular, I just like modding and improving my Nexus 7. Are there any true advantages to a custom kernel that will increase performance and productivity? I know there's kernels which allow overclocking, I'm not sure if it's worth it when in comparison with battery life. The Nexus 7 is already speedy enough, but is there a benefit to overclocking to maybe 1.7GHz or 1.8GHz CPU?

if you're on 4.3, I can highly recommend franco.kernel. Great battery life, and allows overclocking.
Benefits are overclocking aren't really that great, especially if you can run everything fine. However, it does come in handy if you're playing graphics-intensive games and there is a bit of stutter.

ElementalX, Glitch, Bulletproof (ElementalX-based), to name a few. Running ElementalX 2.3 myself, and it's rather great :good:
Saw something about this, thought it was kind of cool.
I'm currently running 4.4.2, came across Gangstar Vegas, and it's an amazing game, it just stutters a bit. What would be a good kernel, and clock speed for running the game more smoothly? I don't care about battery life much because I'll just change the clock speed when I'm dome playing.
I'd clock it to 2.0GHz, but I don't want yo overheat the device. Suggestions?

Custom kernel could have e.g. CIFS and/or EncFS kernel module support.

Is there any way to have this double tap to wake feature without flashing a custom kernel? Maybe there's a .zip file that can be flashed to have this feature alone without being part of a kernel?

There's also an app in the Store which does the same thing but a) forgot the name (if I remember I will update this post) and b) it's not as low-level as this kernel and so I would assume it will use the battery even more than this. This ain't "free" as well, for the record
I think enabling volume button wake is also useful, as the volume rocker is much easier to find than the smaller power button. Not sure which kernel does that though.
