Voltage Control - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Installed it but dont have the voltages tab like on my SGT. Only available tabs are General, Device Info and About.
Do I need to do anything else for it to give the voltages adjustment options?

Are you using a custom kernel? Stock kernel doesn't allow voltage or clock control.
Personally I am using Perseus kernel (by AndreiLux) , it comes with STweaks which allow you to control a wide range of settings : voltages, CPU and GPU clocks, governors, audio tweaks.. and it closes the recently discovered exynos exploit.

I guess that is the reason! I am on stock kernel.
Any other kernel suggestions? I am quite quite happy with my note performance in almost every way so wanted to play with voltages for curiosity reason only. If I flash a custom kernel I still want to maintain the stability of stock without need for any fancy stuff.

I am a happy camper with RedPill v1.0. But this surely depends on your personal taste, there are quite a few others as well.

[Q] Can I use "No-Frills CPU Control" as alternative to "SetCPU"

I've a quick noob question about CPU management.
I've been installing custom ROM's/kernels on my DHD for the last 3 months. Tried lots, and am currently using the CoreDroid 6.5.
With this ROM (and others) they recommend using SetCPU - however I can also see that No-Frills CPU Control can set min/max values for CPU and select the governor (i.e. smartass, ondemend, etc).
If I've no immediate need to use SetCPU profiles (such as "screen off", etc), which i think is a feature exclusive to SetCPU, and only need to stick to the core features (setting min/max speeds and selecting the governor) can i treat the two applications as identical?
I guess I'm asking as I'm trying to improve battery, and just want to make sure i'm not shooting myself in the foot if i select No-Frills CPU Control.
Thanks!
Yes very mych..ive been using it and works well

Many thanks for the quick reply. I'll give No-Frill CPU Control a go!

Kernel for mik3d??

I'm currently running mik3d and in my opinion its the best 3.0 rom out there at the moment. But what's the benefit of using a kernel other than stock? And any suggestions for kernels and how do I flash a custom kernel? Thanks in advance

I am running MikG (not 3D) but I can address the reasons for running a custom kernel.
- Overclocking: Custom kernels will often allow you to change the max cpu clock to improve performance when you need it.
- Underclock: They also allow you to lower the max clock and the min clock if your aim is to try and improve battery life.
- More Governors to choose from: They will often have other cpu clock governors that can be used to balance battery life vs performance (see here).
- Undervolting: Some kernels will use various schemes to undervolt the CPU as another means to save power.
- HDMI Mirroring: The stock kernel will output a display to the HDMI only from the photo gallery app. The custom kernels can allow full display mirroring to the HDMI. This allows games, netflix, etc to be viewed on the big screen.
- Memory optimizations
There may be more reasons... these are the one from the top of my head.
You flash a kernel much the same way as you do a ROM. From Recovery you would wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache before flashing the ZIP of the kernel. That is it. Some kernels then allow adjustment with programs such as SetCPU.
There are a few kernels that support Gingerbread Sense roms (such as Mik 3D). You can look at Freedom, ChopSuey, Golden Monkey, Poonsense. I am running Freedom and it works well for me.
I just tried adjusting my CPU after installing freedom and my phone froze lol

Some phones do not like to be overclocked. That is normal. You just have to find out what your limits are. Mine actually does not like to be run as low as 128Mhz. When I do that I get boot loops once in a while.

[Q] Set cpu for root users

I just rooted my s3 and would like to overclock it a little. Just wondering what the best settings would be and if Set cpu is indeed the best app for this. Thanks in advance and I apologize in advance if I'm in the wrong section.
First you're going to need to flash a kernel that has overclocking capabilities. I highly recommend ktoonsez however if you are not familiar with extreme customization, then faux or lean kernel are better suggestions

I also suggest that whatever app you do use (I use SetCPU as well but they all generally work the same), DO NOT SET ON BOOT.
Since you aren't quite sure you know what you are doing yet, if you input a wrong value or your CPU can't handle "that high" an overclock or your CPU cannot handle "that low" of an undervolt and have it Set On Boot, you will be stuck and have to Nandroid back.
Once you know if certain values work for you, then use Set On Boot.

What kernel functions can control Franco App if Franco Kernel isn't installed?

Hi,
I want to try my phone without Franco kernel for a while (because I suspect that it causes some problems).
But I noticed that even without a kernel installed it has impact on the stock kernel. For instance if Fast charge is enabled in franco app it seems that it is really enabled. At least I can see an icon in notifications.
What Franco app settings can be used with Android stock kernel (4.2.2. in my case).
Thanks.
Battery life extemder i guess and most peobably underclocking too

The stock kernel doesn't have ability to do fast charge, so it doesn't matter if the app shows it. You can use things like color control, logger toggle off. I think you can also change scheduler and min max frequency. Options are pretty limited with the stock kernel.
Thanks!!!

Will there be any problem if I use Performance governor always?

Reason is I flashed Perseus, and believe it or not this kernel lags, in whatever settings I tried to tweak. Only changing the governor to performance removes that lag/stuttering. Thus asking, will there be any problem if I use Performance as a regular governor?
I could move to another kernel, but this one has the most important features I need, speaker and headphone volume boost, led fade support, and the most imp yet simple exFAT support.

If You use Performance Governor as regular your CPU Frequency are alwaxy maximum and batterie will be very fast empty
I recently flashed Perseus Kernel on Omega ROM then I overclocked it at 1.8Ghz which was mind blowing!! There must be a prob with your ROM cz Perseus never lagged in my phone.
BTW I found that the default gov is much better and balanced than the Performance gov.
Well I don't care about battery life anymore, but I won't compromise with smoothness.
Actually, no, there is no problem with the Rom, well yes there is one, it's too damn smooth and fluid. When I was on Omega, which is basically not any fast or fluid than stock Rom I didn't notice any lag, because the Rom was laggy as well, but with A.R.H.D the lag is very prominent. Only an A.R.H.D user can feel the situation actually.

No problems at all that is why the option is available, Unless your worried about your battery life.
Performance governor won't necessarily reduce lag. Also it will make the phone super hot.
