[Q] Set cpu for root users - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I just rooted my s3 and would like to overclock it a little. Just wondering what the best settings would be and if Set cpu is indeed the best app for this. Thanks in advance and I apologize in advance if I'm in the wrong section.

First you're going to need to flash a kernel that has overclocking capabilities. I highly recommend ktoonsez however if you are not familiar with extreme customization, then faux or lean kernel are better suggestions

I also suggest that whatever app you do use (I use SetCPU as well but they all generally work the same), DO NOT SET ON BOOT.
Since you aren't quite sure you know what you are doing yet, if you input a wrong value or your CPU can't handle "that high" an overclock or your CPU cannot handle "that low" of an undervolt and have it Set On Boot, you will be stuck and have to Nandroid back.
Once you know if certain values work for you, then use Set On Boot.

Need a little help

I am new to the setcpu app I am wondering how do I know how much frequency my min and max should be to help my phone out more. Can anyone help me on that plz?

It will depend on which ROM and kernel you're running, but generally, overclocking doesn't do much good for you. I do however run my Main Max @ 1113 and Min @ 245. I then have a profile set for Screen Off Max @ 245, Min @ 245. This has helped a lot with battery life. This is on CM6.1.1 and the SBC stock kernel.
Also, there are the Scaling options. They will vary based on the kernel you're using. Generally, their names speak for themselves, so pick appropriately. I use Interactive when available, or Ondemand as a second choice. If you choose Performance, you will stay clocked at the highest speed until over ridden by a profile, so don't bother with that one unless it's for testing only.
One thing to think about is that Setcpu doesn't play well with HAVS, so if you're running a kernel with that built in, they will be fighting each other.
Also, if you're running a stock based rom with a stock kernel, you will need to disable Perflock if you want Setcpu to be able to really do it's job. So, while in Setcpu, tap Menu > Perflock Disbaler and attempt to disable perflock. Once it is successful, pick set on boot and close that window. Now Setcpu can work properly and you can start saving battery.
If you're primary goal is to get amazing battery life, I highly reccommend you try some of the new SBC kernels that have trickle charging built in. That's what I've been using since they came out, and it is amazing what a little tweak can do for you. SBC Kernel Thread

No Frills CPU Control works!

So i was looking around on App Brain for some rooted apps, and came across this. Figured i would give it a shot, figured no one had tried it yet on a dinc 2. And what do you know it works, Set my clock to 1.024, of course you have to be rooted to try this app. but since there aren't a lot of kernels out there, and the one that is doesnt work well with my rom, figure i will give this a shot for a while.
Anybody try this app? Confirm this works, seems to work for me.
I have used it, but it doesn't overclock because the stock cpu clock is 1GHz, or 1024MHz. I guess it could be used to underclocking, but thats about it.
Hmm seems to run a bit better...but who knows...at least its something until i can get a working kernel.
Any little bit helps
SetCPU overclocks right? I've got mine set at 1.305 MHz, but it has no modified Kernel, so I wanted to be sure that I'm really getting 1.3 GHz out of my processor

Download a system info app. Will tell you your CPU speed
sent from an under rated phone
I use it... I love it.
It even lets you set I/O scheduler.
Also, if your phone does an "unclean" reboot, the app wont apply your setting on next boot.
Setcpu will not overclock unless you have an oc kernal. You must be using a non-stock one.

This app will give you your CPU stats so you can test, so you can underclock or overclock. Depending on what you want.

How to undervolt

I am new to the whole idea of undervolting. I have previously overclocked my phone's but never undervolted. Is there a how to guide anywhere in the forums that i failed to find, if not can someone explain the steps and settings that they found stable on their phones with out a significant performance decrease. I am already rooted and have an overclock/undervolt kernal installed. I apologize if i missed this topic in a search.

First step would be to go to the kernel thread and see how/what app should be used for the under volt/governor/i/o scheduler settings and install that. Different kernel makers may want you to use different methods.
Second, under volt settings will be different for every phone as the hardware is different. The best way is to take down every frequency 25mV at a time and do not use set at boot or any option like that. The reason for this is that you need to make sure your phone will be stable. If you set at boot and go too far and your phone reboots, you may be stuck in a boot loop and have to reinstall your ROM. After trying your phone for awhile and it seems stable reduce the voltage again and try it out continuing these steps until your phone becomes unstable/reboots/lags then raise your voltages the next step up. Try again for a bit and if all is well then you can utilize the set at boot option.
Remember every phone is different, only lower your voltages till what is good for you, doesn't matter if someone else with same ROM kernel can under volt further, they just have different hardware.

[Q] Any recommended kernel settings for Jedi? X17 with SaberKernel 38.1

Does anyone have any recommended kernel settings they'd like to share? I've been changing things around a little but I'm too afraid to make any big differences as I don't want to ruin anything. Any recommended GPU clock settings would also be appreciated!
Also, I see people mentioning they're overclocking their phone a lot. Does overclocking on this phone mean it constantly stays overclocked until you change the settings back or does it change frequencies as needed to a maximum frequency that you set?

Hey When you OC lets say to 1800mhz . That means your proccesor can Amp up to 1800 mhz if needed. Your phone will always idle when its a sleep. My setting are 100mhz UC and 1800mhz OC. Gpu is also Oc to 640mhz. I use pegasusq for governor and cfq or zen for scheduler. I also use eco mode . I get very good battery life and performance.
Also...what apps are you guy using for this? Seems most use trickster... Wondering if anyone has experience with others.

I would use whatever the developer of your rom/kernel recommends (which is Trickster most of the time)
Anyone know what eco mode does? I've been looking it up but all I've been getting is this guy's kernel that he named 'eco'
Also, for anyone reading this thread with a similar question to mine I'd heavily recommend using Zen over CFQ as a scheduler because it's much smoother and no jitters/stutters (at least in my experience)

I'm curious what Eco does as well. Tried looking it up, but didn't find anything useful.
Trying out Zen...been getting some annoying hangups and jitters with this kernal. UC 100 OC 1704. And FYI...I've used the stock clocks and still got the same lag and lockups and screen freezes. Also tried on demand gov.
Could it be that ZRAM is enabled? Not quite sure the benefits of it.

Do you have eco mode enabled? Also, maybe you should look into Seeder. It sounds like it's perfect for the kind of problems you're having. Or you could change your minimum voltage from 100 to 200, I heard 100 can be kind of buggy sometimes

i messed up my tablet :(

I touched some no frills cpu control settings and now my benchmark results are about 19000-22000 and it used to be like 24000 i tried changing the rom and all that stuff if someone can give me the stock governator and all frequencys and that stuff it would be helpful.. Thanks i need help i dont know what to do
Now i cant do any better than 23000

Firstly, I assume by the size score that you are using Antutututu. If so then you always get variance in the scores, and yes it can be 4k difference.
Next, I'm gonna bet that you are seeing thermal throttling, where the device is turning off 2 of the cores due to heat.
I've only noticed this behaviour recently myself. It's a real pain in the arse. I've downloaded trinity kernel app to get around the problem. In his app you can turn off thermal throttling and force the two other Cores to stay on.
This isn't a permanent fix though as the settings don't want to stick for some reason that is beyond me.
Next, is there no reset to default in no frills cpu app ?
Or you can uninstall no frills and make sure you delete any folders off your sd card, then either reflash your rom or you could even flash AICP kernel.
This should get you back to default.
Finally if you still think it's your settings, you could tell us all the settings you have changed and between the guys on the forum we could tell you what to change back to.
All the best rich
**just had a quick look at no frills on play Store. Looks like there's not loads to alter.
I like interactive governer and row scheduler (as we can't get row I use deadline.)
Min frequency wants to be at 384 and max at 1728.
That's the basics.
