I have been having some major problems with my EVO regarding the data. If I use anything that is on the heavy side of bandwidth, like downloading a file from android marketplace, surfing the web, watching sprint tv, using the GPS, etc...the data will just time out for about 3 min at a time. For instance if I am downloading a 5mb app from android marketplace, it will maybe download a megabyte, then it will just stop downloading. If you look at the 3G symbol at the top, it will be white, but only the upstream indicator will be on. I can then open any other internet application on the phone, and nothing will work. It usually lasts for about 3 minutes at a time and happens fairly regularly. It will end up taking me 15-20 min to download a 5mb file from the marketplace. Same thing if I browse a bandwidth heavy site like digg.com. It will just time out after a while and it will just show the upstream indicator as solid and not do anything in any program.
This problem is not location dependent. I have this issue at my apartment, at work, at my friend's house, at the Sprint store...anywhere.
In chronological order, this is what I have done to troubleshoot/fix the problem:
First noticed problem
Turned off phone/Turned back on
Rooted and installed custom version of 2.1 w/ Sense
Removed battery (power cycle)
Talk to Sprint cust care. They sent signal over that reactivated the phone (2x)
Did factory reset on phone and formatted SD card
Swapped phone at Sprint store with new one
So even after swapping my EVO with a new EVO from the Sprint store and not fooling with the phone at all, I am still having the same exact issue.
I am absolutely at wit's end with this and I have no idea what to do at this point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does this happen over wifi too, or only 3g?
------------------------------------------
This post brought to you by my EVO 4G, by XDA-Tapatalk, and by Swype.
Thats a good question. I dont have a wifi connection to try it on at home because I keep my wifi on 5ghz N. I will take it to a friend's house and try.
yeah good luck testing it with WIFI. I'd say my WIFI is about 10 times less reliable than 3G.
I have not been able to test with Wifi yet, but I just had one of my coworkers that has the same phone to replicate the issue on his phone. He is having the same exact problem.
We set our phones next to each other and downloaded Space Buster 3D Lite off the Android Marketplace. Mine crapped out about 2mb in and so did his. He wasnt able to surf or do anything else on his phone for a few minutes just like mine.
I'm wondering if this a network problem in our area or if there is a problem with the phone.
Also, I downloaded a continuous ping program and did 3,000 pings with no packet loss, so it seems to only happen with heavy data usage ie. saturating your bandwidth.
Either way, it makes me feel a lot better to see this problem happening with other people lol
dude... i was just about to post a thread on this. im tearing my hair out with this horrible horrible problem. tmobile was better and more consistent its ridiculous...
i'm having the exact same problems, and not only just this, but i'm sending and receiving texts hours and hours off... its just not instant. wheerever i am. and sometimes i'm sending a text and this data "blackout" happens. also when i'm receiving texts i can't send texts out at the same time.. the phone gives me sms errors and then the data timeouts for minutes.. i have to wait minutes to resend the texts or use data..
Well it turns out that my friend that got this phone too is having the same exact problem......
WTF is going on here? Can people test this on their phones? Just try downloading a large file (5mb+) off android marketplace 2-3 times and watch the download. See if it stops or says download paused. Then try surfing the web when this happens.
Including myself, thats 3/3 people that are having this problem that I know personally.

I have no issues downloading large files, maybe it is location based?
It appears the OTA update that was released today fixed the problem. I've been running Sprint TV for about 4 hours with no issues. Thank god...I was about to cancel my service over this.
I've been searching around and I don't see anyone else having this problem. I have kept my galaxy nexus stock since I purchased it the day it came out. I started paying for tethering this week and I've been having a huge problem with it.
When I enable the wi-fi hotspot for the first time it works excellently. I get amazing 20Mbs down and everything is rainbows an ponies. If I then disable it and enable it again I am able to connect to the hotspot just fine but I get no internet connection.
I'm starting to think it's possible I have a defective device and might need to get it swapped out. I've seen a few blog posts that seem to mention issues with the Verizon nexus wi-fi hotspot but no real fourm activity regarding it.
My other option is to wait for the Jelly Bean update and see if anything gets better. Or rooting and seeing if it happens to work. I'd rather root for fun though not to get something I'm paying out the ass for to work.
Thanks for any help
Will I just received my Note 4. And the WiFi performance is horrible.
Hey @tampaboy good to see you here from the note 2 thread.
Bad news is locked bootloader and as of now no root.
I haven't had any issues with the WIFI yet. Is it just on your home network or are you having issues with a bunch of routers?
How so? You never had a moto x 1st gen. My note 4 keeps a great connection.

WiFi has full connection and Speed Test shows 20mbps download speed but when I download anything from Google Play it downloads at less than 500kbps
I experience similar issues with Google play via WiFi and Uverse Internet connection. I just assumed it was a playstore/Samsung issue as I'm able to download larger files from a server at better speeds.
Just really hope they unlock the boot and gain root on this puppy. Otherwise I could've just bought a iPhone if I wanted all this security locked down crap.
Sad thing is its way easier to jailbreak ios 7 or 8 than the note 4 is to root it at least on AT&T and Verizon.
maybe you just have a crappy internet speed/router, no issue here at all, or maybe just ask for a replacement
Yes the Wifi speed is absolutely terrible. There are tons of threads / other forums have posted this as well. I've tried 2.4 / 5 Ghz N, G, B all crap on various routers. The Note 3 always gets about 2/3rd better speed. At home I have a 30 Mbps connection and the speed always tops out at about 5-8 Mbps. Garbage. Note 3? 27 Mbps!!! what is going on here?
Please don't be an idiot and ask the OP if their router / internet is bad just goes to show how noob you are.

Why we gotta throw the n word around?
I can only speak for my own experience, but I have found better WiFi performance than my Galaxy S5.
Here's my wifi

Definitely not my router
you can't rely on an internet speed test...
run an iperf host on a desktop computer then run an iperf client on your phone(s). that will be a much more reliable way of testing wireless speed between your devices.

oops my bad, and yes im a noob and I don't care about it, its just my opinion anyways, you happy now mr.perfect?
I have also been experiencing slow downloads from the play store.
funny thing though, galaxy store was wanting me to update my flipboard app, so was google play..
so yesterday I started to update it via google play.. 5 min into it, it wasn't even done downloading yet.. so I canceled it and went to the galaxy store, it was downloaded, installed and ready for use in 2 minutes max.
I wonder if its not on their (googles) side somewhere..
Yeah its weird everything else downloads real quick like normal besides from Google Play Store. The Google Play Store downloads normally if I use my data, only really slow over any WiFi network.
I wonder if it's something that AT&T put in the phone so you turn on Download Booster and use your data with WiFi?
Except download booster is "hidden" on the n910a version of the note 4. You have to find the settings through nova and widgets.
Sorry to hear your still having the problem. I haven't seen any slowdown over wifi yet.
I've also noticed WiFi on this is horrible that's forever for pages to load or even time out when on apps. But downloading is fast. My s4 doesn't have any issues not sure if it's hardware issue or software but it's annoying.

No problems on my end. Works great at home and on campus.
After installing the App and restarting, uninstalling and reinstalling a few times still not working. I can launch the App just fine browse the collection but once you load your Movie it will launch like it's about to Play but won't. The Vudu Movies and TV screen will show and then will sign me out of the login. Anyone else use this App or have issues.
I didn't know I had an issue until I read this post. I checked it out on my phone, and Video is not playing. It starts loading and the the app restarts.

I have the same issue as well. Usually don't watch movies on my phone but just tried and it doesn't work. Hmm.
Sprint G4.
I contacted VUDU about the issue and this was their reply:
Hello,
*
We are currently experiencing issues with the Lollipop software. It appears that the issue is affecting playback on all devices with this software, due to a clash between the software and our VUDU app. We are actively working on a release that will remedy this bug for our customers.
*
I have done some playing around with the app and noticed that after a few tries, it will eventually work for me. I also noticed, when I un-installed and re-installed the app, I had success with playback the first few tries. Nonetheless, there is an issue with the app that we’re looking to resolve. Just wanted to supply a bit of feedback from my personal experience.
*Vudu support
So, it looks like there's a bug, they're aware of, and working on it. Until a fix is found, playback will be hit and miss.

Ok good to know I have 2 G4 and both have that issue but didn't have another phone with Lollipop software besides them . I'm on Tmobile I haven't forced tried it though. Flixter App works fine though.
my other issue is Netflix now. Phone #1 worked with Wifi calling Phone #2 doesn't after go back and forth between Netflix and Tmobile and did everything we can think of still nothing now Phone #1 doesn't work either with Wifi calling.
It does work with Wifi calling but it has to be set to Cell instead of Wifi Preferred (unless no cell service) option. Which is stupid since it worked before and on my Note 2. Tmobile then tried to say something about the Wifi calling feature demands more data or something and that's why. After Master resetting phone's etc a few times I find the issue to be when you first Log in to Netflix and Google Services wants a update. Since it did work on both after the Master resets but it will force the update on it's own.
I wasn't aware of the lollipop issue with VUDU, but like mentioned by BDestroyer8418, Flixster does work.
I double checked on the Netflix, and that plays fine as well.
As long as I was checking on these, I went ahead and verified HBO Go, Showtime Anytime, EPIX, the CW, and FXNow. All seem to play fine.
I rarely watch any of the services on my phone, since I usually just push to the Chromecast. So, as long as that all works, I will be content (until VUDU comes up with a solution).
LG-VS986
Netflix starts video playback almost immediately on my wifi. So, I don't have an issue there.
I can still use vudu with my phone and chromecast without issue, so at least there's that.

The problem is Tmobile Wifi Calling for Netflix. I'm not not sure if other carriers offer that feature Tmobile has. They add it in Tmobile software on Devices. They might have it but not sure you guy's would know for sure.
For Vudu doesn't seem like it matter's what Carrier your own most likely No unless you can force it work temp til they update it. Since Tmobile, Sprint and Verizon users reported the same Restart Loop.
Sprint has wifi calling, but it doesn't matter if I have it on or not, I have no issues with Netflix. So it may be just isolated to t-mobile.

So after looking around some more I found this http://www.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/32kowb/tmobile_lg_g3_lollipop_with_wifi_calling/
Looks like same issue on Tmobile LG G3 on Lollipop with the Netflix problem with Wifi Calling. This is most likely Tmobile problem then ? Something in the Wifi Calling feature.
Not sure if anyone is even reading posts on the Note 8 but here goes
I've had this phone for a few years. It was running stock Android 9. I have the base unlimited plan from Verizon on this phone which means no tethering. So I thought.... I'm in the market for a new phone so if I brick this one, no big deal. I read that once rooted, you could enable tethering with any unlimited plan so after some Googling, I found a site that walked me through installing a rooted copy of Nougat.
Once it was on there, I was able to enable tethering and I attached my kid's iPad and away she went..............at 0.20Mbps. I remember a LONG time ago that you could bypass this artificial speed limit on tethered devices by messing with the DUN/TTL stuff but I think Verizon caught onto that. Then I tried a NetShare and PdaNet and while they DID solve the speed problem, some apps on the iPad (Roblox for example) give me a network error (guess it doesn't like going through a proxy that those 2 apps set up?). I also read that using a VPN connection can solve this problem too but a friend of mine messed with VPN stuff on his phone and I just remember him complaining about connection problems with apps from time to time so I'm trying to avoid that scenario.
At this point, I'm thinking about just going back to Pie and using NetShare and telling my kid that only YouTube will work when tethering unless somebody can point me to some settings I can mess with, now that I have root access, to speed up a tethered device.
TLDR: With my fancy root access, can anything be done to speed up a tethered device THAT DOES NOT involve having to mess with buying a VPN account?
PS I can't help but feel Verizon is intentionally slowing down my network speed on this old Android phone. In the 2 years I've been using my Note 8, surfing the internet on 4GLTE has gotten noticeably slower as time goes on. My speed tests always come back around 5Mbps and my wife's iPhone 11 (or 12?) FLIES when she's surfing the internet.
