Volume up button not working! - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a G4 on eBay but the volume up button doesn't work.
Any ideas on how to fix it or should I just return it?

rather than risking yourself, why not just use the warranty? if it's a hardware defect, LG have to repair it for you.

I will use the warranty but if it was quick simple fix I'd do it myself to save hassle.

Probably a loose connection to the LCD panel, i'd return it if i were you
or could be the slider hinge flex is busted.. be very careful when sliding the device.. mine's busted too and I haven't used if for more than a month already, parts from the UK will arrive this week, so hopefully it will be up and running in no time..
Thanks for all the help going to send it back tomorrow..

Sounds like it could be a good way to go (to return it and ask for a replacement or to send it to a service centre). Receipt = warranty. Don't forget to bring it.
Before doing this you can try to update or repair the software just to confirm this is not SW related. In PC Companion you can do both.

If it is in warranty time, sure. Contact your dealer.
Few months back, my search button light died. 2 days ago, same thing happened to my menu button. I still have 1 more month before my warranty expired. But... I wouldn't mind. I didn't use my Defy on dark room. No big issue...
But if you required a 'perfect Defy', then sent for warranty is recommended

Verizon GN Cracked Screen....Asurion Questions!

So, my lady has the VZW GN. The screen is cracked, dont know how. Not the entire screen though, Just along the top near the power button. As a result, the screen wont power on AT ALL. Luckily, we have insurance through Asurion. Now, the device was rooted. AOKP, custom Kernel, etc. The screen is off, so therefore I cant unroot and unlock. Im trying to decide what is the correct route to go through with Asurion. Should I say the screen is cracked, or should I say it was lost? Anyone have any previous experience with this? Thanks!
Insurance doesn't care about rooted devices. Also, if the screen won't power on, how will they know its rooted anyway? Just get your replacement and send your phone in.

Its an accidental damage request and you're paying a deductible to get it fixed, it doesn't matter if the device is rooted or not.
You could hit the phone with a hammer and pay the deductible and get a new one, they don't care how you broke it or what you've done to the device.
You don't need the screen to come on to restore to stock. Use the tool kit. All you need is for it to go to fastboot (volume button plus power button). Then relock the bootloader via tool kit

No point to even wasting time doing that.

Exactly... don't even worry about it. On a side note, when you get your replacement, and if you're not happy with it, give Asurion a call and let them know. Asurion is above and beyond carrier customer service. They will make sure you're satisfied, even if they have to give you a BRAND NEW device including factory warranty.
All is good, just filed my claim. Phone is on the way! Thanks guys.

A solution to what exactly? This is the first i've ever read of an S3 power button issue. What is the "see saw and loose thing" exactly? Any pictures?
I have the same problem, from my understanding Sprint considers it a "cosmetic" issue and will not replace/fix for free. Your options are to send to Samsung for warranty repair or place a Sprint TEP claim which will cost and you will receive a refurbished phone.

Well, that stinks
Definitely a factory defect. Have both ET and S3. No issues with the power button.
Just buy the button online. It snaps in.
Also, they get loose when you take off a case that you have to stretch to wrap on to the phone if you arent careful. It can catch the edge of the button as you pull the case off.
Just pull the case away from the volume and power buttons as you pull the case off.

Sorry to pull up an old thread but I have searched and searched and can't find any answers but ....
Did anyone find out if this fixed it? My phone just started the same thing yesterday and now will not lock or unlock the screen or go to the power menu !
This problem is called "sudden death syndrome" its a huuuuuuge factory defect you actually have to solder on a new one or you're screwed

I have the Best Buy Protection Plan. One of the reasons I have it is because of stuff like this. I had the Sprint TEP, till they changed it. My buddy had this happen to his SGS3. The Power Button left the party. Because of an error on his part he had both Sprint TEP, and the BBPP ( Best Buy Protection Plan ) . He went to Sprint, and they said they he had to contact Samsung. He went to BB the same day. They sent the Device out for repair, and gave him a loaner. Next day they notified him he would be getting another device in the mail. He received it two days later. Returned the loaner, and all good.

[Q] Powering on S3 with a broken power button

Hi All,
My power button recently got overly sensitive to the extent that using the phone was very annoying. After a point, it just remained engaged which meant the phone wasn't turning on at all (or rather, turning off immediately). I opened up the phone and ripped out the power button from the circuit board. This solved my problem. I can use a small screwdriver to power on my device by establishing contact between the two points where the power button was installed. I can power off the phone by pulling out the battery.
However, I would like to be able to power on my phone without the need of a screwdriver or something to establish electrical contact physically. Is there a way I can use the long press of home key, or any other thing, to power on the device?
Thanks in advance.
How about maybe you could have taken the phone to sprint and they would have replaced it. It's a known issue and defect. Idk now that you have ripped it out will they replace it?

Flashing back to stock is no problem. But call and find out because it's a defect not something that broke.

But since I don't have a contract with sprint, I won't be able to avail any services from them, I assume. The first thing they ask is my sprint phone number, don't they?
You might have a point there. Maybe you can find the parts online and repair it.
