Why oh why do I get another Samsung volte device. Yes shutting off enhanced lte voice works but that is a blow job.

What's the bug?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
If you use enhanced lte service, you'll notice your cell standby battery drain is always in the top 3. It's due to an over aggressive need to connect to mobile data to validate it's availability in the LTE voice network.
Is there an expected fix?

I have a GS3 with T-Mobile prepaid (60 a month) my Simultaneous Voice and Data is not working? is this a problem with the prepaid service? the Simultaneous Voice and Data will work for a few min's then cut off and i cant get data back until i end the call im on.
I'm running Cm10 Nightlights
I was on Simple mobile and had the same problem.
is this a phone problem, service problem, ROM problem? i thought T-Mobile supported Simultaneous Voice and Data?
Works great for me but makes sure you have 3g or better.

Since Tmobile using GSM network, it should be possible anyway. Did you try rebooting?

I keep mobile data off most of the time.
Just wondering if it makes any difference in call quality.
Also between:
Gprs vs Edge vs 3G vs Hspa+
is there any noticeable call quality difference?
Hercules on TMo.
Thanks.

Nope. Data is data, phone and texts are handled separately.
Sent from my cell phone telephone....
No it doesn't affect data

That's what I thought, but then, why are calling times rated by 3g vs 2g?
Like 16 hours of talk time on 3G and 30 hours on 2G.
What's that all about?

3g uses more battery than 2g, obviously. You don't need data on at all to make phone calls.

Any suggestions, for a wifi calling app that is?

There is a lot of free apps on the Play Store for wifi calling.. But some do need ROOT access for it to work.. [my preference - most of the good ones will need root access ]

Does anybody know if it works on t-mobile? Googled it and could only find an answer from 2007 saying it didn't back then but this is 2013 so I was wondering if it has changed since then. I have seen the build prop tweak (ro.ril.enable.dtm=1) for this to enable it in different threads but was just curious if it actually works on tmobile.

What exactly is Dual transfer mode?
Sent from my GT-I9505G using xda premium
Dual Transfer Mode (DTM) is a protocol based on the GSM standard that makes simultaneous transfer of Circuit switched (CS) voice and Packet switched (PS) data over the same radio channel (ARFCN) simpler. Without DTM, the mobile device must be capable of reception and transmission simultaneously (full-duplex) requiring complex and expensive circuitry in the mobile terminal. With DTM this requirement doesn't exist and makes the device implementation simpler and cheaper. DTM is a 3GPP feature introduced in R4 of the specification series.

Is this like using data while on a call? If so then yes it works. However you must be on 3g or greater for it to work.

I just tried it out on my phone. I set it to LTE/GSM only and whenever I made a call, it would drop off LTE and go to edge. When I set it to LTE/WCDMA/GSM, it would drop off LTE and join 4G when I made a call. I don't know why it does that though.

Might have something to do with lte and that HD voice I keep seeing.

When you make or get a voice call on LTE, does your phone disconnect from LTE and switch to 3g/H? Just wondering if this is normal?

Yes perfectly normal.
I believe its due to either LTE being Data only or LTE not being able to do Data and voice at the same time. I forget which one it is.
I think it's only data for now

It's actually because lte is being used as HD voice. I'm trying to disable HD voice to see if it changes the behavior.

LTE is data only for now. You're gonna have to wait for VoLTE (Voice over LTE)

That doesn't make sense though. If LTE is data only, then it would use LTE for data, and use 4G or anything else for voice, allowing you to have both voice and data.. Unless the radio can only support one frequency at a time then it would force it to use 4G or the next available frequency.
http://m.computerworld.com/s/articl...telephony_apps?mm_ref=https://www.google.com/
VoLTE will enable that... Right now the phones have to have two radios enabled at the same time... One for data and one got voice.

It needs to be 3845#*850# because its the D850 not the 855
My M7 had an option to switch from LTE auot to WCDMA/GSM Auto - no such luck on the G3?
LTE at work is so over saturated I get better speeds on WCDMA but I can't get my phone to switch besides doing the dialer method.

Tasker should be able to do this for you if the magic menu does not. You can even configure Tasker to automatically sense cell phone towers at work and convert to WCDMA, then auto-switch back to LTE once you are no longer in the vicinity of the cell phone towers. Just one of the many, many amazing and useful things Tasker can do for you.
