Just wondering: Do current root techniques affect OEM camera API/post-processing algorithm?

It doesn't because the bootloader is not unlocked, right?

Yes, because you still have your DRM keys.
I figured as much, but the root threads don't spell it out. Which root are you using and what's your opinion on it?

I have Sprint, so I have to use the Low Effort Root. Works great. I love it. No problems at all.

I have unlocked my gnex and rooted it.And then should I relock it?is there any difference whether relock it or not?thanks in advance
No difference just keep it open because if you ever have to reflash recovery or something you'll have to re unlock and that will wipe all data.

The Play Store bought Galaxy Nexus doesn't even wipe when unlocking the bootloader, so there is no reason to bother relocking if that's what you have.

Agreed, but multiple users have reported this. I'm rather curious what's going on with those play store devices. It's hard to believe Google deliberately removed a crucial security feature. If unlocking the bootloader does not wipe userdata, everybody who's not using encryption is basically facing a security risk.

I was unaware, haven't been following the GNex forums for awhile. Seems like this could be a security issue...
My purpose to root is limited to supersu on the stock rom and xposed framework if possible. I do not want to flash any custom rom.
Is it possible to keep all DRM related functionalities with stock rom + root, with this method?
Is there some way to get root without unlocking the bootloader/wiping?
AFAIK root requires a custom recovery, to flash a custom recovery requires unlocked bootloader, so simple answer is no.

Damn, read a bit about what a bootloader is, its role is described in its name. Those fears are pointless.

Not necessary, coming from other devices. I am no noob, I know what BL is, but some manufacturers tie certain features to locked BL. Sony for example cripples camera when you unlock.

oneplus works same whether the bootlader is locked or unlocked. the only downside is as soon as you lock or unlock your bootloader your phone is wiped completely.

Otas dont work with twrp, oneplus releases a singed ota update on their forums usually within a week or two after the official ota. These singned updates can be flashed via twrp.

The only downside to unlocking the BL on the OP3 is that you get a warning message (http://i.imgur.com/88NcI2K.jpg) when booting the phone. Lots of people hate it, i like it personally. It makes pressing button combos to get into fastboot/recovery obsolete.

If flashing is the only way to root the device, then yes.
And unfortunately flashing seems to be the only way.

This is not correct on OxygenOS 4.0.2, it's possible to root without wipe:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDRPWvYJYfU
I bought a Google Pixel that appears to have been tampered with.
The bootloader was unlocked, which I've relocked.
I ran a SafetyNet check, and the CTS profile match was 'false'
I ran a root check and it said:
- Device is not rooted
- Super User: SU Found (/system/xbin/su"
- Busy Box is not installed.
If it was unlocked out of the box then someone definitely had their hands on it. Where did you buy it from.

You'd have to flash the factory image. Which would require unlocking the bootloader again. Did you ACTUALLY lock the bootloader or did you just toggle the switch in developer settings?

Oh ok. I've never tried that. I always flash it in pieces though. I'm not doing it anymore. When you extract the pixel files it's pretty daunting how many there are. =/

Just run the flash all script. Remove the -w to avoid it wiping.

I recently got this phone and will root the phone soon. Rooting guides say I need unlocked bootloader for root. I haven't found a guide how to do this, where can I find reference?
Also I will probably go for stock rooted. For those who have custom roms, is there any particular reason you went with the rom?
Thank you.

The solution (I think) would be to wipe data and flash the entire stock image for your phone, then re-lock the bootloader. This will make sure that any folders/files pertaining to being rooted are gone and shouldn't cause any problems when it comes to validating your OS. Just make sure you properly unrooted SU by using their uninstaller/unroot tool before wiping and reflashing.

Flash. all to both slots and be sure to include -w
Out of curiosity, why do you even wish to lock the bootloader? Especially with the numerous horror stories of users unable to resurrect a bootlooping device (rather simple to fix if unlocked) because their bootloader is locked.

Just an FYI, here's someone that locked their bl. Only 2 reasons I can see this as necessary is RMA, and Android pay. And Android pay works with magisk, so really only one reason. Just be sure to know what you're doing. https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/help/pixel-xl-bricked-bootloader-locked-t3698638/page2
