I have a Tilt 2, and just recently noticed that when the screen is off, a section of the screen has the "rainbow like warp color". Its not oil or grease, it wont wipe off so the problem must be in the screen, though it looks like its on the surface. However, I do not notice any degradation when the screen is on. Everything color wise and everything looks normal.

Should I be worried about this? Is this a sign that even though the phone is new, and its never been mis-handled, that the screen is going to have problems soon? I have insurance on the phone and not sure if I could even get it replaced at this point, or if id have to wait until the screen actually has issues when its on.

I have it too. But it doesn't interfere with my use of the device, so I don't really care...
No there all like that, I have gone through 2 and they both had more then 4 dead pixels as well. Find a dark black photo or just turn your camera on and put you finger over the lens and you will find many.

The Newton Rings are probably very prevalent. I can’t say that I agree with your statement on the dead pixels though. Sounds like you got unlucky with both devices. I’ve tested mine with 4 images for black, red, green, and blue. Every pixel works fine for me.
Its caused by the layers between the touch screen digitizer and the actual LCD screen. The soft flexible LCD materials touch and form Newton's Ring patterns that appear as the pictures show.
On my old phone (A kaiser) the original screen did not exhibit this behavior, but when I replaced the screen, the new one did...
Luck of the draw, and no it is nothing bad...
I had this problem in european tp2 model... took it for repair and they changed the screen in warranty...
Oh my god, I just noticed that my "new" (~ a month old) desire has a bunch of dead pixels . I counted 6 spots on the display wherer there is at least one dead pixel. One is clear to see, must be more than one pixel dead there. I can clearly tell that they are dead pixels, because if i tilt the phone they change color.
I tried PixelFix App but it did not help. (btw: having SLCD screen)
If nothing helps I will have to make use of the warranty. Will they repair/chang the display?
Anyone with the same problem / a solution? Or should i just go to my providers shop?
Should I remove the screen protector first? If they think I am stupid they might tell my its my own fault, because I am using the screen protector with glue (or whatever).
Well, dead pixels don't change color... remove the screen protector first and wipe the display with a clean, soft cloth the screen, see if they still show.
The warranty should cover this fault when a certain number of dead pixels is reached.
Otherwise, a whole new screen goes for around 130-140 $.
With monitors you need 2 dead pixells so I would say the same about screens.

First of all thanks for your quick replies.

On a black screen they clearly shine bright white or cyan (can't really tell because they are so tiny). If I change the view angle it changes to some kind of red.
Do such apps like PixelFixer help at all?
If I remember correctly, the colored stuck pixels that have other color than black are called sub-pixels and are the components of a "full-fledged" pixel, so a stuck sub-pixel could be your problem. In any case, neither should change color when tilting the screen.
I never heard of a single case of "healing" a dead pixel problem using a software, although in theory they all say could do it...
Did you remove the screen protector?
Just talk to HTC or your insurance or your carrier and see what they can do. Your still in warranty so best to take the safe route.
So I have my DHD since Oct, and I just recently noticed the screen seems to be off center, or misaligned. It's not a big issue, but I'm curious if others are like mine. If you look at the pics you can see the black boarders on each side of the screen, and the one on the right is bigger, but it's not just a thicker boarder, but if you look close (if you look at yours you may need to angle it in light to see the true boarder and the emptyness) you can see the screen seems to be positioned more to the left, and it seems to go from top to bottom (meaning at the top the boarder is right next to the screen, and the gap gets bigger as it gets to the bottom). Inside the boarder there is black empty space, but only on the right side. The left side is right next to the boarder. It almost seems like the screen underneath the glass is shifted. I hope I didn't confuse anyone, but I'm just wondering if it is misaligned there may be a way to fix it.

Really? Why would they put more space on the right side? I'm not talking about the space from the bar with the apps, phone, and settings to the end of the wallpaper, but the space from the wallpaper to the painted black boarder on the glass.

oh i can see it now, no i dont have that black border maybe email htc about it?
Mine also same...right side gap and today i give to service centre .
first the updated software but solution. Then they received and said to change LCD. Now waiting to come...from service center..
Wow, never really noticed about this, until i saw this thread, mine is also slightly off center to the left.. But not noticeable and i can live with it.. very hard to see the differences.. less than a milimeter..
I've just noticed this on mine, only had it since launch! Mine looks almost as if its mounted at a slight anti clockwise angle.
Looks like HTC QC team were on holiday when the DHD was released!
Miny is a tiny bit off centre too, although I would have never noticed if it was not mentioned here. I would be prepared to live with it but I also have a spec of dust under the screen since new and I also have the camera blur problem, so this squint screen if the final straw for me... it's going back to HTC. Hopefully with these 3 problems I will get a new handset from them rather than a repair. There's only so much you can polish a turd

Yeah I just noticed it on mine about a week ago. I probably wouldn't have, but I was trying different cases, and one made it look funny, so I looked closer. At first I thought it was the case, but then saw it was the screen. Without the case on I don't really notice it. Funny you say that about the spec of dust. I have one also. on the opposite side of the volume rockers. I can only see it on a pure white background. Thanks for you input. I was just wondering how may were like that. It seems like more than just me.
Reply from HTC
I emailed HTC about the screen being off center, and I included the pics form this thread, and even gave the link. Here is what they replied with:
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding the display on your HTC Desire HD device.
If this issue coincided with the installation of a third party application, please remove the application and evaluate the result. If removal of the application appears to resolve the issue, the application is likely the cause and you should contact the application provider for further assistance.
If no third party application is involved, please soft reset your phone by powering it off, removing the battery, waiting ten seconds, and then reinserting the battery and restarting the device.
If your device's display continues to be off center, I recommend you restore it to its factory default settings by performing a factory data reset. This will permanently erase all installed programs and data files on your phone; you will therefore want to first back up all files to your storage card or to a third party application from the Android Market. Use HTC Sync to back up Outlook contacts and calendar files, or Google Sync to back up your Google contacts and calendar. Calendar events are color-coded: green for Outlook, blue for Google, and orange for Exchange. You can back up text and picture messages by forwarding them to an email address. It will not affect files on your storage card.
To reset your phone, please press Home > MENU and then tap Settings > SD & phone storage > Factory data reset > Reset phone > Erase everything.
If a factory data reset does not resolve your device's issue, I recommend you contact our HTC Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and Repair Department for further assistance. Please contact them by dialing 1-888-617-1113. Their business hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time seven days per week. Please have the device serial number (S/N) available when you contact them. You can find the S/N in the battery compartment of your phone.
If you need to contact us again, please include the device S/N in your response."
I guess maybe a factory reset will reposition the screen?
And who says Customer Service responses are scripted.
Of course, a factory reset will magically reposition the screen. Why didn't we think of that.
factory reset not work for me..........my desire hd sent to HTC head office.
You guys want QC issues? On the first DHD I had 2 weeks ago, the speaker grill above the screen was not straight. It was on a 2-3 degree slant and was visible, especially when using it with a case.

I have that too. The left side of the grill is almost touching the bottom right by the screen while the right side is up a bit more. You can really see more of the aluminum in between the right side than the left, so I have a dust particle under the screen, the screen is off center, and the grill is slanted. I'm calling HTC to get a new one for sure.
UPDATE
Well well well. I sent my phone to HTC to fix my issues. Just got it back today. 100% perfect! The screen is positioned beautifully. They even removed the one little spec of dust that I had trapped there. I really thought it would come back with a note saying they couldn't fix anything. I am very impressed. I guess with the screen being off center is what made the SIM cover be off also. When I looked at the phone from the front the right side SIM cover was in more than the left. Well now it's 100% perfect! The only thing they didn't (couldn't) fix is the speaker grill being at a slight angle. Since it's CNC'd into the aluminium body they would have had to replace the entire body. I can live with that now that the rest is perfect. Oh and I know it's my same phone since I made little tiny marks where only I could see them, and they are still there now.
could you stop to report problems in your devices? i'm pretty sure if i'll look further i'll find some issues too, and i will blame it on you! =oP
until now i didn't find anything, but the glass of the right side of the screen is a little bit off of the frame and everytime i need to pull down the notification bar i feel like i'm fingering paper... weird thing!

LOL Yeah mine had that too. On both sides. Like the screen was lower than the frame, but now everything is flush and even. I got my phone originally out of the second batch HTC made, so maybe they corrected all the problems, because now it's perfect.
i told you so, a issue just appears today! =o\ i'm stuck in car mode, according to my searches, a short in charger cable let you mobile feels like you plugged in a car dock, what active car mode... but, now it believes i'm in a dock even with cable unplugged... i guess i should create a thread about it! =o\
Hi guys, I don't quite now how to explain this, but I'll give it my best. I've had my g3 for almost two weeks now and I've started to notice very faint vertical lines on the screen when on a white background, I can see them right now while writing this. It also happens in the settings screen. I'm not certain if there's something wrong or if it's always been this way and I hadn't noticed. Has anyone else noticed this? I wouldn't even say the line have a colour, it's just an alternate of darkish and white lines. I could just be looking too close, but I'm not certain.
Also I have noticed a slight black blur when using knock code, like when you would touch an old lap top screen, although a lot fainter. It only happens in one little section of the screen, but I noticed it when using the white stock wallpaper. It only seems to happen when I tap for knock code and I have noticed it when I apply slight pressure to that area. I have been delicate with the touch screen since, but I don't believe I used much pressure in the first place.
Hope I explained it well enough. Anybody else noticed anything similar? Am I being paranoid and these things normal?
There is large discussion on the "lines." I see them too, but think it is a result of the resolution itself. Nobody can say/prove what it is AFAIK.
If I press real hard on the screen in certain spots, it seems like I can replicate the second thing you're talking about. If yours does it when just lightly tapping, I'd exchange it.

Hi,
Thanks for replying. I'm glad that the 'lines' aren't just in my imagination. Can you point me in the direction of the discussion on the lines?
I bought the phone online, but took into the store today to compare it to their demo model. It definitely doesn't have the same issue when I tap it. The salesperson wasn't sure what it was but she's going to send it in for repair/replacement. It sucks... now I'm going to have to wait till I get it back. The shop said they would have replaced it on the spot if I hadn't bought it online but from the store too.
Hopefully they get it back to me quick.
I hope no one else has this problem.
I think it's not the resolution itself, it's more about the software or kernel or something, LG implemented an oversharping thing which makes texts appear too sharp, but it's not only about texts, it's about the overall display! Notice when you scroll through LG Health page, you can see the lines moving, or changing in visibility, etc..
I have the same issue on my phone. There are very faint vertical lines most apparent on white and green colors and they seem to be rainbow colored. I have seen this issue with the at&t, t-mobile, and sprint versions of the G3 which my friends have.
It's not caused by the over sharpening effect because even after I flashed a fix for it, it still appears.
Almost as if it's like one of those 3d card/poster effects.
Hi guys,
is there any news on any fix on this?
I have the same problem. Should I RMA my phone?
I dont know if my eyes are just completely bugging out or if what im seeing is true. I got my replacement note 7 yesterday and everything went well but then i saw a red/pink tint towards the bottom of the screen i started to freak out but decided that i would let it fly til Monday or so hoping that its just glue or something drying up. Its more noticeable when the screen is on a full white screen or if the bottom/edge part of the screen is white but other than that you can't see it at all.

Sounds like a display issue. My Note 4 had half the screen streaked/covered with a similar color. It was really similar to what the blue-light filter looks like when turned about half way up actually. But it was only on about half the display, and in streaks so was more of a bother because it wasn't the entire screen. I honestly only really noticed it when I was reading my kindle app on my phone with the lights turned off, otherwise it really wasn't very noticeable in normal lighting conditions. Upon reading about this on google this can happen to these kinds of displays that Samsung uses. Might be something to send the phone back for a replacement. I'd really have to see a pic to know enough to know for sure though.
Sounds like a defect. Bound to be a few. Try massaging that area of the screen fairly hard and see if there is any change.

I had that issue on my silver Note 7 and opt to exchange it (after many rounds of persuasion and complaints with at least 3 Samsung technicians). Some see it, some don't. This happened right before the recall.
Thought it was only a random unit of mine, but since you also raised this issue, could be more widespread. FYI, my unit was international version. Also same pinkish hue at the bottom. My replacement unit (before the recall) did not have this issue.
My note 7 recall replacement is not here yet (Samsung announced our replacement only available officially on 29 Sept in my country). I too hope my recalled-replacement will not have the pink hue at the bottom of the screen.
