[Q] Screen off center? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have my DHD since Oct, and I just recently noticed the screen seems to be off center, or misaligned. It's not a big issue, but I'm curious if others are like mine. If you look at the pics you can see the black boarders on each side of the screen, and the one on the right is bigger, but it's not just a thicker boarder, but if you look close (if you look at yours you may need to angle it in light to see the true boarder and the emptyness) you can see the screen seems to be positioned more to the left, and it seems to go from top to bottom (meaning at the top the boarder is right next to the screen, and the gap gets bigger as it gets to the bottom). Inside the boarder there is black empty space, but only on the right side. The left side is right next to the boarder. It almost seems like the screen underneath the glass is shifted. I hope I didn't confuse anyone, but I'm just wondering if it is misaligned there may be a way to fix it.

Thats how its ment to look ya dope lol

Really? Why would they put more space on the right side? I'm not talking about the space from the bar with the apps, phone, and settings to the end of the wallpaper, but the space from the wallpaper to the painted black boarder on the glass.

oh i can see it now, no i dont have that black border maybe email htc about it?

Mine also same...right side gap and today i give to service centre .
first the updated software but solution. Then they received and said to change LCD. Now waiting to come...from service center..

Wow, never really noticed about this, until i saw this thread, mine is also slightly off center to the left.. But not noticeable and i can live with it.. very hard to see the differences.. less than a milimeter..

I've just noticed this on mine, only had it since launch! Mine looks almost as if its mounted at a slight anti clockwise angle.

Looks like HTC QC team were on holiday when the DHD was released!
Miny is a tiny bit off centre too, although I would have never noticed if it was not mentioned here. I would be prepared to live with it but I also have a spec of dust under the screen since new and I also have the camera blur problem, so this squint screen if the final straw for me... it's going back to HTC. Hopefully with these 3 problems I will get a new handset from them rather than a repair. There's only so much you can polish a turd

Yeah I just noticed it on mine about a week ago. I probably wouldn't have, but I was trying different cases, and one made it look funny, so I looked closer. At first I thought it was the case, but then saw it was the screen. Without the case on I don't really notice it. Funny you say that about the spec of dust. I have one also. on the opposite side of the volume rockers. I can only see it on a pure white background. Thanks for you input. I was just wondering how may were like that. It seems like more than just me.

Reply from HTC
I emailed HTC about the screen being off center, and I included the pics form this thread, and even gave the link. Here is what they replied with:
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding the display on your HTC Desire HD device.
If this issue coincided with the installation of a third party application, please remove the application and evaluate the result. If removal of the application appears to resolve the issue, the application is likely the cause and you should contact the application provider for further assistance.
If no third party application is involved, please soft reset your phone by powering it off, removing the battery, waiting ten seconds, and then reinserting the battery and restarting the device.
If your device's display continues to be off center, I recommend you restore it to its factory default settings by performing a factory data reset. This will permanently erase all installed programs and data files on your phone; you will therefore want to first back up all files to your storage card or to a third party application from the Android Market. Use HTC Sync to back up Outlook contacts and calendar files, or Google Sync to back up your Google contacts and calendar. Calendar events are color-coded: green for Outlook, blue for Google, and orange for Exchange. You can back up text and picture messages by forwarding them to an email address. It will not affect files on your storage card.
To reset your phone, please press Home > MENU and then tap Settings > SD & phone storage > Factory data reset > Reset phone > Erase everything.
If a factory data reset does not resolve your device's issue, I recommend you contact our HTC Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and Repair Department for further assistance. Please contact them by dialing 1-888-617-1113. Their business hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time seven days per week. Please have the device serial number (S/N) available when you contact them. You can find the S/N in the battery compartment of your phone.
If you need to contact us again, please include the device S/N in your response."
I guess maybe a factory reset will reposition the screen?

And who says Customer Service responses are scripted.
Of course, a factory reset will magically reposition the screen. Why didn't we think of that.

factory reset not work for me..........my desire hd sent to HTC head office.

You guys want QC issues? On the first DHD I had 2 weeks ago, the speaker grill above the screen was not straight. It was on a 2-3 degree slant and was visible, especially when using it with a case.

I have that too. The left side of the grill is almost touching the bottom right by the screen while the right side is up a bit more. You can really see more of the aluminum in between the right side than the left, so I have a dust particle under the screen, the screen is off center, and the grill is slanted. I'm calling HTC to get a new one for sure.

UPDATE
Well well well. I sent my phone to HTC to fix my issues. Just got it back today. 100% perfect! The screen is positioned beautifully. They even removed the one little spec of dust that I had trapped there. I really thought it would come back with a note saying they couldn't fix anything. I am very impressed. I guess with the screen being off center is what made the SIM cover be off also. When I looked at the phone from the front the right side SIM cover was in more than the left. Well now it's 100% perfect! The only thing they didn't (couldn't) fix is the speaker grill being at a slight angle. Since it's CNC'd into the aluminium body they would have had to replace the entire body. I can live with that now that the rest is perfect. Oh and I know it's my same phone since I made little tiny marks where only I could see them, and they are still there now.

could you stop to report problems in your devices? i'm pretty sure if i'll look further i'll find some issues too, and i will blame it on you! =oP
until now i didn't find anything, but the glass of the right side of the screen is a little bit off of the frame and everytime i need to pull down the notification bar i feel like i'm fingering paper... weird thing!

LOL Yeah mine had that too. On both sides. Like the screen was lower than the frame, but now everything is flush and even. I got my phone originally out of the second batch HTC made, so maybe they corrected all the problems, because now it's perfect.

i told you so, a issue just appears today! =o\ i'm stuck in car mode, according to my searches, a short in charger cable let you mobile feels like you plugged in a car dock, what active car mode... but, now it believes i'm in a dock even with cable unplugged... i guess i should create a thread about it! =o\

Heat Haze On Most of Front Screen Anyone else seen this ?

I have a strange issue with my touch pro2 which i have never seen before on any of my previous phones i.e. TYTNII / Vario II etc,
If i hold the phone horizontal to the eye then i can see a kind of heat / rainbow haze covering the middle of the screen apart from about a 1cm clear part going all around to the edge. So basically the middle part. You can only see this in certain light or looking closely with the phone titled horizontally to the eye. I have taken the screen protector off to ensure it is not this reflecting and it is still there with this removed.
I cant see that this is normal, the phone only gets used for the normal stuff like internet sharing, calls, music streaming etc.
any help appreciated before i give mobile phones direct or HTC a call.
Thanks
noticed the same on mine mate, can't say it affected anything so wasnt really bothered with it.
I can only see it in artificial light but surely this cannot be right ?
it looks as though it has over heated or something.
Waiting on a call from Both HTC and Mobilephonesdirect see what they say.
I have attached a screen shot so everyone can see, pic taken with my trusty Kaiser.
This has had the screen cover from day one and never been near any water.
Any thoughts.
I´ve heard before of this behaivour
Here a Rapahel with sometinhg similar
Not sure what is really causing it
is that your phone ? are you getting it repaired ?
very weird problem..
Wow. That is wild. I have never seen such a thing. Good luck with that.
I have seen similar in the past but only on my tytn which I replaced the screen on,
it did disappear after a few days of it being there tho,
if you still have your screen protector on have you tried removing it?
orb3000, could you edit your image and make it a little smaller? it took over the screen lol
Cheers Steve
I had this with my axim 50v. It was caused by pressure on the touchscreen, in my case caused by the belt pouch i kept it in. It didn't do any damage and cleared up if the device was left for a while without anything pressing onto the screen.
If u keep the phone in ur pocket then try carrying it screen side out (ie, not towards ur body)
it looks as though there is some sort of air or moisture between the outer screen and the inner as if i press on a corner i can see the haze move. So looks as though somehow it has come off of something if that makes sense....
have now emailed HTC and will see what they come back with, left a voice mail and emailed mobilephonesdirect and heard nothing from them. Shame really as thought they were a good company. Always the same though good at taking the money never good at supporting, so true for a lot companies these days.
Thanks
to me it really just looks like excessive area pressure over time, displacing the goo in the touchscreen. (at least i think there is goo in them seperating the sensing layers)
not been pressed against anything only in the belt clip it comes with. never had any of this with my previous phones and my kaiser is still ok 2 years after buying it. Seems a bit of a design flaw.
I had this problem with my Kaiser. Must be someting to do with the touch layer. Never fixed it as it was not a problem under normal light and when u see the phone in a normal angle. (Not to diss your problem report hehe)
It can really stand out in certain conditions, I will see what HTC say as I have emailed them the picture. Its and expensive item which something like this should not happen.
when you press the corner of the screen the haze/rainbow effect moves so it is definately something that has come away but underneath a few layers.
When i get a response i will post it here as maybe of use to others.
HTC's official response, this phone like my TYTnII has only been used in the belt clip and yet apparently this is my fault due to much pressure!?! Which of course is utter rubbish.
Quote from HTC.
Thank you for contacting HTC Technical support Centre.
The device needs to be examined under our Engineers to determine whether it'll be treated as IW or OOW case. But from our experience, we can tell that it's Newton ring which is OOW case. You'll be receiving an email from the RC to tell you how much it costs to get repaired. You can choose whether to pay or to reject the quotation and if you reject it you'll only pay for the diagnostic fees and the courier and both takes up to 15 pounds.
In case you needed any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact is on our Hotline, < 0845 890 0079 >, or visit our Website, < www.htc.com >.

After sending my phone back to HTC they have repaired this within the warranty so free of charge, in fact they have sent me a new phone i think as all imei numbers have changed and rom is newer.
There was obviously something wrong with the phone for it to go like it did.
Awe, shoot. I was hoping the Touch Pro 2 to not have this problem. It is called the newton ring and virtually every HTC device gets this problem. It is INDEED a problem, and it even voids your warranty at time.
Newton Ring?
Are you saying that it does VOID your warranty. Mine started doing this and quickly has now covered all the screen but the edge all the way around. I am going to call repair center tomorrow and find out for sure.
I will post their response to my call.
HTC did replace the phone, in fact the one they sent out done the same thing within 4 weeks so i sent this one back as well. They repaired this one also, although they just replaced the screen this time. At present a few months down the line i have not had the newton ring back.
I wont be buying another HTC phone now based on the awful problems I have had with this TP2, i am now on my 3rd. I have had HTC phones for the past 6 years and never had an issue like this.
HTC have become very sloppy lately in quality when releasing phones. Hopefully this will change.
Argh. Mine just hit this 2 days ago. I've owned it since October.
It's almost a perfect rectangle with a 1cm border except for the bottom where it's maybe 2mm from the screen edge.
I'll be bringing it back to a Verizon store and hopefully they'll swap it out.

spot like dot inside touchscreen?

Hi,
I've just had my HTC Desire for about a week and its been working fine, however i have just spotted a concerning water dot-like spot inside my touchscreen but its not affecting anything i do when i use it. I have not dropped it at all or done anything malicious so i'm assuming it was already there from the start. I don't have a screen protector yet but will be receiving it in the next couple days.
here it is > http: //i41.tinypic.com/2h2nsbb.jpg (remove space)
it might be hard to see but its there.
Does anyone know how i might clear that up or should i just leave it since its not really effecting the touchscreen. i'm not sure if i should get a replacement
Any suggestions welcomed.
cheers
I would insist on having it repaired or replaced from where ever you got it from. I'm guessing there is no obvious damage to the top of the screen?
Yeah, that would do my head in! A screen protector may well render it invisible though.
I would contact the provider and insist on a replacement. I would just say there is a mark on the inside of the screen, I wouldn't mention water if I were you, just to be on the safe side, it's one of those things where the conversation could get irksome.
Cheers for the replies..
I will see what 3 can do as i bought it on a PAYG. You can bearly see it until you look closely near light, thats why i only just noticed it yesterday.
No damage at all to the top screen let alone the phone. It still looks brand new. AMOLED screen is faultless and everything works fine.
I reckon it'll be annoying to get this replaced as they have limited stock but i'll see what 3 would suggest me to do when i go there tomorrow..

Dust in Upper Left Corner...Advice PLZ

Ok, like the title states I have a little dust in the upper left hand corner. Thing is I am within my 30 days, BUT when purchasing my EVO they only had the white back. So I bought replacement parts and now I have a solid black EVO I called my local sprint and they told me bring in the phone and they would be happy to "clean" and "reseal" my EVO. Well if I bring it in with the black back they will blame the dust on me, of course. So do I put the white parts back on, and if I do how do I recreate that little screw cover (tamper tape)? I also have one stuck pixel, thats not really a issue and I had decided not to return my phone due to the single stuck pixel, thats a little anal. If it effected anything like my clock widget, well yes, but I have to search to see it.
Anyway back to topic...
What do I do for this situation;
A. clean it myself
B. take it in with black parts
C. put white parts on and play dumb when it comes to tamper tape
D. put white parts on and use black electrical tape for tamper tape, demand new phone
E. or STFU and DEAL WITH IT!!!!
F. other (explain)
think of this as your phone when answering, if you know something is their it is hard to ignore.
Thanks
I would go with C. because it looks just like you got it,a nd if you had "no clue" about more reason for it to a be factory default.

OK, do I let them do a cleaning? I am happy with my EVO, that one stuck pixel is not a issue to me. The dust coming in at that location seems to be a problem. From reading the dust enters through the headphone jack, maybe I can make a little plug or something once it is cleaned, or replaced.
So, Clean or replace? LOL I know its petty but if there is dust in 2 weeks what will it be in 2 months!
Thanks
edit...I dont care to return and wait for EVO 3D, not sold on Dual Core (yet) and deff dont care for 3D junk!!!
Well, I'd take it in, and ask for the cleaning, since you're content with the issue. Or you could push the replacement at first and if they're all welllllllll blah blah, then go for the cleaning. But I think you should be able to win either way. And not petty, if I had dust I'd get mine taken care of.

I agree, its not petty so to speak, but they will try to make one feel that way. When we took my wifes optimus S in for a bad LCD they were trying to make us feel like A Holes, by complaining over a minor detail. The LCD was not 100%, towards the bottom of the display a thin green line would appear when certain colors were on screen, mainly gray. How often did that occur, not very, but when it did a green line was NOT supposed to be there. lol
I will put white parts on and get the cleaning, unless they offer to replace (doubt they will), if dust is back in a week, I will demand new phone then.
Thanks for your input

Well they were just being lazy reps, and should have done their job, all about the customer satisfaction, and it was within reason. And sound like a good plan of attack. And no problem.

[Q] Should I return my handset?

Ok so these are the symptoms my phone has:
1. Very small in perfection in the polycarbonate on the back right hand side. Looks like a small hairline crack but it's not a crack its smooth. Doesnt really bother me but I do know it's there...
2. Small mark under the screen, only visable on dark backgrounds or when looking at a black image. Not sure if it's one of these "yellow spots" people have mentioned but so far after 5 days it's still there.
3. Fruit Ninja lags a lot. Other tegra games seem so so but the screen gets very hot and also the spot under the camera ring.
4. If I tilt the phone slightly to the right for example in this forum I can see small pattern (slantered) on the screen.
5. When using the keyboard in landscape mode the predictive text bar moves about.
6. Some times when I press the power button to switch the screen off it comes back on as if its stuck slightly.
7. Some other small software glitches.
Would you ask for a replacement given these items?
Yes, you should bring it back for a replacement.
The crack and the mark under the screen is worth replacing it, you've spent money on a product that isn't as good as they clamed, so a broken phone.
I'm taking mine back tomorrow.. damn yellow spots
i returned mine for the yellow spot issue the day after i got it, got an exchange for another, couldn't be happier, with the lag and such its all just software and its kinda what you'd expect getting the new device at release, wait for some patches and see how it goes, but id exchange for the yellow spot issue anyday
Yes do it but just have to hope the replacement doesn't have any issues itself.

Display burn in already?

Hello :good:
I have had my phone since release day, and I noticed in the sun I can see some lines in the screen almost looks like a burn image going vertically down. There are two large lines and a rectangle looking one in the middle. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but I can see it more in person and it bugs me
Does anyone else have this? Perhaps it's some type of shadow caused by the curved screen? I am going to open a warranty claim with T mobile, but I was just curious if I am the only one with this problem?
Thank you!

Yes I can see it too only in the sun on white background it looks like a shadow of something behind screen I read online that screen is very slim and it does bother me too this is the second thing first being a ripple in the glass top too bottom can only see it in the sun screen off no screen protector I guess the price of this phone is why these things bother me other than that this is the nicest phone I've owned and these are things I can live with as long as they don't get worse

It's not burn in. It's part of the construction of the phone, and only visible in direct sunlight where the light can penetrate the display to the point it's revelaing the structure underneath. Completely normal. No worries
The thing is, if you look closely, you see the graph of pixels now too, seems like it's getting worse.
Its a matter of fact that you spend this much money on a "flag ship device" with a great display in store, but when I go outside (where 90% of my workday resides) you see the issue. It's misleading the customer (Such a GREAT display....((INDOORS ONLY)) ) It's just principal.
If the replacement I get tomorrow has this issue as well (I am suspecting it will based on the responses)- I will call Samsung corporate and respectfully request a full refund as Tmobile wont take it back since it's beyond 30 days.
Edit: Thanks for everyones reply

I can respect your position, but I disgree that Samung is "misleading" the customer. It's been confirmed through 3rd party screen test companies that the Note 5 and the S6 Edge+ have the best screens in the industry. Just because you don't like how the screen looks in direct sunlight doesn't make it bad or false advertising.
Still the best screen around, everytime I'm out with people (which is a lot) my Edge+ blows away their phones, all of them.
Excuse me?

Really, A glass phone in direct sunlight? That's what a smartwatch is for. Do you walk down the street looking at you phone? Do you hold it up in direct sunlight? Do you understand the properties of glass? The screen is amazing. Most of the people I know that use this device do not expose it or any other phone to direct sunlight, there is even a warning in the manual about not doing so because it can seriously damage your screen. Dude, it's a glass phone. The sun is a very bright star and has a way of shining through glass. Do you find it odd that you are the only person reporting this as an issue? Go with an HTC or Iphone, they are built of metal and will not let the sun through, the drawback being that they will cut your reception slightly. This is the way it is, the phone is fine and the screen is good, but you can't please everyone.
well, anyways I got my replacement today and guess what? It doesn't have those blobs on it so big freggin deal guys. It was a one off. You guys take all this crap personally like you made the phones yourselves LOL
