Custom rom fix proximity bug? - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was wondering if flashing a custom rom would fix the dialer proximity but that doesn't disable the touch screen when you bring the phone to your ear? Would appreciate it if anyone can confirm this before i go through the trouble.

I had same situation and only on 4.3 it works well. But I sent my phone to Sony repair center and they gave me a brand new z1c 1 year after buying. It was related to hardware issue but in new phone I had similar problem but it occurs from time to time decently now it's better with new phone

Are you sure its a hardware isssue? It feels more like a bug. I also sent my phone into sony and they replaced it with a brand new one but it still has the same problem.

Please check if ur phone has a proximity sensor inbuilt..What is your phone model?

It should have it built in. Its model number D5503.

Yeah..it has one inbuilt..maybe a software bug..try upgrading the system

Upgrading wont help cause sony wont patch bug. Does anyone know if flashing a custom rom will fix this problem?

Flashing a good custom rom will fix the problem if its a software bug

On Munjeni rom 108 it's same with proximity dstrikers rom also on Lp is worse because when you click on status bar it automatically drops down buy on kk it automatically revert back. It's very annoying for me because I make a lot of calls. In service test proximity is OK.

Ahh, so I'm not alone.
I picked up a cheap Z1C from eBay because it had this bug and the guy selling it got screwed around by the service centres and just had enough so sold it.
So how often does this happen? Anyone got any idea about that?
I doubt I can send it back as I have no receipt. I only bought it as I figured there would be a way around it.
If I go into the service menu, *#*#7378423#*#* and choose Proximity Sensor it is just on. If I can change it so it's just off I can just use the power button manually so my ear doesn't press buttons while I'm on the phone. Currently you can't hang up or navigate through the menus some places have when you ring up.
Tips are appreciated.

The power button trick will do good in case of such bugs..but maybe flashing a custom rom will solve the problem

I had tried that but got no result, so I put my SIM back in and tried again. I held the power button a bit longer, instead of just pressing it, and the screen came on.
So you're right, I can work around it but it's a bit irritating.
While trying to sort out what the problem was I found the Diagnostic option under the About Phone section in settings.
While testing things I discovered the ambient light meter doesn't work either, I suspect they're part of the same module so if I have no luck chasing Sony up I might just do it myself.
Trouble is there isn't a service centre in my city so I've got to post it interstate and I'm not the original owner, that shouldn't matter but might. I guess I'll find out.

[Q] Black Screen

I have an Arc S LT18i (build 4.1.B.0.587) and since a few days I have an annoying problem.
After having had a phone-conversation my screen turns black and won't come back alive!
I have to open it up, take out the battery and wait for approx. 5 minutes before I can reboot...
Any ideas???

Euhmmm, In 'about the phone it says' : Kernel is 2.6.32.9-perf, [email protected]#1 . Where do I find which ROM I have?
Forget flashing roms etc. This is a hardware fault. The sensor left to earspeaker upper your screen is probably dead.

If the problem really is from the proximity sensor, I wouldn't see why it can't be replaceable although it might be quite difficult to find it on the internet, so sending the phone to Sony service (or even just people who fix phones) to check what is the real problem and how to fix it

Problem solved
Tnx for the input guys but the problem is (more then) solved.
I sent the phone to repair service and due to problems with delivery of spare parts the sent me a brand new Xperia S !!!
Well, that's not too bad, congratulations!

Xperia S dead by water damage??

Hi guys,
Any help is welcome hete because I think my Xperia S is officialy dead . I have a complete white screen on my Xperia S. When I power on my phone I get a complete white screen. The splash screen (with Sony logo) does not show at all. Entering recovery by pressing up+powe does not work...only a white screen.
The phine is not rooted and has the original firmware. Since the phone was under warranty I have send it for repair...guess what...water damage was responsable for my phones death....
So after hearing this the first time I could not belibe it...I can guarantee that it didnnot have any contact with a drop of water. I have tried to fix it myself , without succes... things I have tried:
- connect with usb to PC ( found as media device, usb storage works )
- recovery (up+pwr) does not work, the phone vibrated 3 times and then nothing
- Sony Update Service , flashing completes but still nothing , only a white screen
Its a shame to throw a 5 months old phone away..as an android fan I want it to work because its a great phone...
Can anybody give me some helpfull tips or suggestions on what to do???
Thanks for readimg guys...

But he said he never dropped his phone in water. I would try to send the phone to repair again, if it's in warranty they have to prove that the phone got wet to damage it. If not they have to repair it.
Good luck man.

Xperia S sudden black screen

Hello everyone!
My Xperia S is just 6 months old but yesterday I had a huge problem.
I have unlocked bootloader and rooted device with miui 3.11.22 .96 based with the stock kernel.
I received a call and bam black screen (I did not fall). The device remained in that state but appears to be functional, led is working, I heard a ringtone and vibration is working and the illumination bar too but the screen vibrated on touch (even though I did disable that function). I said maybe if I restarted it, and I did but nothing! I removed the sim card and I got a purplish tint and then back to black. I even tried to enter recovery but no display there too.
I tried with SUS but then I read it doesn't work with unlocked bootloader, so I tried EMMA and it flashed .200 on the device. When I restarted the phone, the recovery led is gone and the screen is still black and the phone no longer responds to any touches but still charges fine so I tried with flashtool and flashed .96 and same thing, the only difference is that at some point it seems to boot up and functions are working properly and sometimes it flashed some random colors and then shuts off.
Is the screen physically damaged? What could be the problem? I have never seen a phone break by itself while sitting on the table!!
We do not have a sony repair care in Tunisia, so all I can do really is take it to a local shop (Xperia S is quite rare in my country).
Thanks you for bearing with me and thanks in advance for your invaluable help, I am quite desperate!!
your screen seems to be damaged
if you flash 96 without any issues then its nothing to do with your system
my xs flashes with some random colors and crashes soon after (not sure if its a common xs issue)
conclution - your screen is broken somehow , probably worn out or faulty to begin with

Indeed it was the screen, thanks Envious_Data for the response and sorry for the late reply.
It cost me around $110 to repalce quite a lot I think.

Acro s always charging notification. After using underwater

Hello, after a long abuse at the beach. My friend's xperia acro s always have red led notification light lit, phone appears to be always charging, it had been 2 months since then, tried all things. factory reset, notification apps etc nothing. Can rooting and changing rom can solve it? I ask cause we never rooted and I am afraid we will mess something, is it worth it to try? Local warranty says board need to be changed but it's pricy and we hear a lot of bad rep about them
a mobile repair shop said to change software, cheers
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
The issue seems to be hardware related but to remove all doubt
flash the stock ftf for acro s using flashtool.
if the led is still on, then the issue is hardware related and must be fixed internally

Nexus 5X red led notification

Hello everyone, I I hereby ask you aid, I have a nexus 5x so everything worked correctly and it suddenly turned off and now it is in a boot-loop a few hours after he gave his last breath and now he does not turn on, can not enter the bootloader, recovery, fastboot or download mode, but however when I put the phone charging it gets the notidication led red, can you help me?
I read this below form a reddit post it might pertain to you.
"That means that battery is deeply discharged, it is the way for the device to notify the user that it will not power on and charger needs to be connected."
https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus5x/comments/3rbr3b/nexus_5x_red_led_of_death_after_running_out_of/
Maybe try a different charger.
Hello same problem. I already replace battery to new charged battery and nothing change. Same only red led blinking.

There is lots of people who have same problem on this forum and google official forum. Google workers suggest RMA. I dont know they replace motherboard or only rewrite emmc or boatloader. I ask but without respond. Sorry my english is terrible

Same problem here, phone shut down and is now dead. But sometimes it is able to load the bootloader. I have not found out how I can reproduce this. If I leave the phone charging over night and the battery is full then it doesn't give any feedback to the power button or power+vol down combination. If I let the battery run down I get the blinking red LED and sometimes even the bootloader.
Just trying to boot into fastboot, flash system-image and back up a few minor apps.
