[Q] Black Screen - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an Arc S LT18i (build 4.1.B.0.587) and since a few days I have an annoying problem.
After having had a phone-conversation my screen turns black and won't come back alive!
I have to open it up, take out the battery and wait for approx. 5 minutes before I can reboot...
Any ideas???

Wich ROM and kernel did you use actually ?

Euhmmm, In 'about the phone it says' : Kernel is 2.6.32.9-perf, [email protected]#1 . Where do I find which ROM I have?

Forget flashing roms etc. This is a hardware fault. The sensor left to earspeaker upper your screen is probably dead.

Oh oh, that doesn't sound too good. Is it replacable or do I have to send it to repairservice??

If the problem really is from the proximity sensor, I wouldn't see why it can't be replaceable although it might be quite difficult to find it on the internet, so sending the phone to Sony service (or even just people who fix phones) to check what is the real problem and how to fix it
Sent from Xperia Arc S

Problem solved
Tnx for the input guys but the problem is (more then) solved.
I sent the phone to repair service and due to problems with delivery of spare parts the sent me a brand new Xperia S !!!

Well, that's not too bad, congratulations!

(Q) Touch screen doesn't respond after restart

Guys, i'm having problem with my xplay. After restarting my phone, the touch screen doesn't respond, but the gamepad act normally. To make it work, i have to shutdown the phone, n place off the battery for about an hour. Place the battery again, n the touchscreen will work again. It will work well as long as i don't restart the phone.
What do u think the problem guys?
I don't intend to bring my xplay to sony service center yet. Since it'll take my phone being serviced for a long time
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2
Doesn't seem to be a problem with battery btw try replace the battery if you know anyone having xplay ! Btw did you update fw or anything before this problem started ? Or did it start all of a sudden at random ?

I don't think the problem came from the battery, n i'm "very lucky" that no one use this kind of phone around me, so i can't test other battery.
This happen about 2 weeks a go. I still use the stock rom, n never did the flashing or the update thing lately.
I just think that the problem came from its digitizer, but still not sure, since it still work well once the touch work after replacing the battery about an hour n i don't restart my phone.
I intend to replace the part that break my self, but really need to know which part it is. Got confused

Well digitizers can give you troubles but this looks like more of a glitch to me !
I repaired the rom via pc companion this afternoon. Had no luck, the problem still the same. N when the touchscreen didn't work, i plug the charger n strangely the phone restarted it self. After restart, touchscreen still didn't work. So i place the battery off for about an hour, n touchscreen worked again. Damn!

black screen...

My One X display has just completely died. It just gives a black screen. When pressing the power button, the phone does turn off and on because it vibrates, gives the start up melody and the touch buttons light up. But the screen is black.
please help...
Did you unlock the bootloader? If not, your warranty is still good and they can fix the problem in a store. If you did unlock the bootloader, there is a slight chance they won't notice it anyway. I am fairly certain that this is a hardware issue, but could you tell me what you did with it before the problem occurred?

Your English is just fine. Hmm, my battery got hotter than that millions of times and there was no damage to the screen. I think I can't be of further assistance here because I'm almost 100% sure that it's a hardware fault. But could you just try to boot it into the bootloader and see if the display works there? Just to be sure. If it doesn't, I think you'll have to send it in for a repair :/ . Where are you from? There is a chance that they will fix it for free if you are in the European Union. Maybe some other countries have the same policy too.

Serious Screen Problems

Hi guys
This is my first thread, in this forum. Personally, i've never moded my cell phone, but recently attempted to root and mod my wildfire s.
I succeeded, this forum was really helpfull!
Even before the mod, my screen was driving me crazy. In the begining it took my attempts to unlock the phone. Some other time, in the messages section, keypad would act on his own, literally Even if i typed "A" it would typed "enter" or anything else but "A". So I enabled touch trace to see what happens. Here is the thing, like i suspected, touchscreen's reactions are spoted away of the point i touch. Sometimes, two touch traces appear on the screen.. Some other times, its extremely difficult to unlock the screen, hang up the phone, or use the menu.. So that's the story. With the mod nothing changed..
Is it a hardware problem? Is it a software problem?
Thanks in advance.. :good::good:
PS: I use cyanogenmod 10
Only a couple of apps installed
PS: english is not my mother language so, maybe some unusual expressions and dictation could by used

i had this problem too:
It's not a big problem..
your hand is wet, and the screen also, but if you dry it with a polyester (of your t-shirt) it will work..
only dry the display and your hand
so..

Hi, ghost inputs is a known issue caused by the charger delivering incorrect voltage/amperes. Are you using the stock one ?

Yes im using the stock one. I ve never measured the output though.. I maybe check it tomorrow.. But the problem is constant and happening, not only when the device is plugged... The other thing is, there isnt only ghost inputs, there are freezings too. Or a thing, where ex: im trying to unlock the phone, so i slide to the side, and visually im almost unlocking it, but in real, nothing happens. Its still on lock screen.
any other?? im kinda desperate with this phone.. :crying:

yes, If re-calibration is not helping then you need to replace the digitizer. Am also suffering the same issue now. Just got my digitizer replaced two days before. But am still suffering from some issues regarding touch. Gonna have to recheck with the retailer

Recalibration was succesfull it didn't come up with any change though...
So can you update this thread with your progress?? If your issue is fixed with the replacement of the digitizer then ill order one.

ITS a hardware problem

That issue applies while we try accessing the phone while it is charging , right ? I mean, the touch response will be strange while the phone is been charged. But, here the OP is having issues with the touch screen all the time (charging / not-charging) . And re-calibration didn't work too.

Right.. Recalibration wasn;t helpfull.. Im waiting your report about Digitiser replacement so ill get one and fix that matter.
Hope its screen's issue, and not some further hardware damaga
It will take another two days for him to find out and clarify the issue. If it is a digitizer issue or some other hardware issue, I will update the same here ASAP.

Nope, issue happens at all times due to residual current.

I thought this was the error in the first place i measured current and voltage on the output of the charger and it seems legit..
I did change the charger thoug. So i didnt know how to proceed on this one. The way im thinking of it right now, i might let the battery completely deplete and charge from the new one?

Phone randomly power off

Hi guys i have Buzz since 2 and half years. Since 1-2 months my phone keeps to randomly power off. I think is a battery issue that doesn't make contact well. I tried to put a piece of paper at the top to make sure that the battery can't move but that didn't fix it. Someone can inform me on how to place the paper or any solutions????
Thanks!!!!!

Are you planning to do it yourself ? If send it in, let Sony worry about it. If you still get a chance to exchange - get a new phone. Why would you have an imperfection phone, right ?

I encountered the same problem and after reading a lot about the problem finally went to customer service center.I was sure that they'll replace camera or the phone but what turns out is that they just reflashed my device to one of the stock roms and the problem was gone. even after the problem appeared ,after upgrading to. 350 firmware, i found few of dots were gone.. So i am thinking it's a software problem. If you are rooted i would advise you to make a backup and flash rom again. May be new rom

dust inside the camera lens
I also encounter this issue with the dust particles inside the camera lens. Reading online I found that the only fix seems to be by having the lens module replaced by Sony.
The other problem I have is that I have no receipt available for this phone as I bought it online. Does anybody know if Sony will fix this w/o receipt? This should be more like a recall issue in my opininion.
I am in located in Canada. Thanks
