I've had my galaxy nexus for a full 2 weeks and only recently I've noticed problems with the camera LED flash. (not the notification LED, the camera flash on the back of the phone.) Pretty much the LED on the phone will stop working most off the time for no reason at all.
I try to snap a pic with flash turned on but it won't do anything (only takes the pic but no flash), same with the camcorder and third party flashlight apps I've used. I actually managed to get it to work a few times but I havent been doing anything differently so it seems like it works at random.
The LED flash has not been functioning properly for the past 2 days and i even tried a factory reset to fix this but no luck unfortunately. Has anyone else had issues with this, or have any advice on how to fix this? i'm hoping its not a hardware issue.
I've had no issues with the flash so it seems you indeed have a hardware issue... TeslaLED works for sure, so you might want to try it though. Some other flashlight widgets seem to have issues with the phone.
You should be able to get the flash working at least in the camera app and in TeslaLED.
I have just tried Tesla led, it's not working on my nexus, but flash working well when shooting. I'm confused a bit.

TeslaLED working fine for me too.

I would bring the phone back to wherever you bought it, show the issue to them, and they should replace it. Sounds like a hardware issue, I've had the phone for > 3 weeks and my LED flash has never failed to turn on.
Reboot. Go into the ICS stock camera app. Manually turn on flash (force on). Take pictures. If the flash doesn't turn on every time, something is wrong with the hardware.
I've been having some pretty big issues with this phone ...it's unrooted running stock ITL41F still on 4.0.1 in the UK
Its been 7 days that I've owned this phone now. And few times it has just crashed. I could be in the middle of typing something, or anything else just coming out of an app, and the screen will freeze go black. And done! Crashed.
And crashed such that it doesn't start I have to take the battery out and reboot. It just dies. It happened a few times but I was setting my phone up so I let it go but now this is just downright annoying. It happens once in two days or so.
Second, and this is even worse. The phone is not dying but goes in a sort of coma. The screen becomes unresponsive.. and the keyboard doesn't work!! And in most apps only selective touch input works...let's say in whatsapp I was talking to a friend and it was working okay but suddenly it stopped accepting my input for a new mesg. And then I couldn't open another chat. Lots of things started being unresponsive...
I went to the home screen and even the Google search bar ..when I clicked on it the keyboard came up ( which it wasn't coming while middle of whatsapp chat) but it didn't accept any input.
I tool the battery out. Rebooted. And it worked initially but then after a few minutes. Exact same problem.
Rebooted again. But again same problem !! That was a bit of a horror really
Right now it seems to be accepting my text input but ... really don't know what the heck is going on for both these issues above. Any advise will be appreciated
Also yeah I do have quite a few apps installed on this device ... considering its stock ROM this should be safest against a vulnerability but any advise on if I should install one of those anti virus apps on it? Or any sorts of apps that I should avoid which cause such major stability issues with ur phone ??
Cheers
Dhruv

I've only experienced few of your issues.
Coma and reboot happened a couple of time while I was on 4.0.1.
But since getting 4.0.2 a few weeks ago those issues went away.

4.0.2 ftw.

There are a few threads here with people experiencing similar problems. My screen goes black and also requires a battery pull.

4.0.3 ftw. Either flash a custom rom or get the 4 0.2 update to help with your problem.
Definitely a software issue that you're having.

I refuse to believe it is 4.0.1 it has been long delayed in the UK
That wouldn't be the case by Google if it was fixing such serious stability issues with the phone
Why do you come here doling out suggestions when you have no clue?
I am having the same problem again now everything is very slow and even the keyboard doesn't open in even Google search most functions unresponsive
And now most apps are force closing on me
IMDB and now xda app too. The phone is half dead the back buttons don't work either
This is the same thing that happened earlier in the day when I posted, and then the phone worked okay but now its back killing my phone
Anyone has any clue what could be going on ? Also this is the GSM version in the UK on 4.0.1 so only if you have a clue please respond else thank you very much
Now even settings page says its not responding
I can post on xda and it works but when I press back that doesnt.
Back doesn't work in any screens. The settings page not working was a classic screenshot will attach here from a PC.
Sorry for the continues rant folks. Just giving as much info as I can to those knowledgeable folks who might be able to help
The crashes arent stopping ..and the 4.0.3 isn't coming to the UK for some reason either ( which leads me to believe that it has some fixes for LTE which isn't available here anyway)
Aren't other users in the UK facing this crash problem - like once in 2 days or so??

Uninstall some of the apps you've downloaded that run in background. Battery Monitory was causing my phone to randomly reboot every other day or so. I uninstalled it and it was fine.
If that doesn't work, there's always Factory Reset.
Since the JSS15Q upgrade, my back button often fails to do anything. It lights up when I touch it but no action occurs. This indicates that the touch is detected by the touch screen.
I restarted in Safe Mode and the problem does not occur. This lead me to believe it is caused by an app. After restarting in normal mode, my keyboard remained Google Keyboard instead of my normal Swiftkey Tablet Keyboard. I did a short test using Google Keyboard and the back button seems to act normally. I suspect, based on this short test, that JSS15Q and Swiftkey Tablet have some sort of incompatibility. More testing is needed to confirm.
I have confirmed the conflict. Swiftkey Tablet and JSS15Q do not play well together.

I have this problem too, but i have never has swiftkey installed.
Had that issue in the beginning but after the update have it no more well at least not that often as before it rarely fail now.
BTW have SwiftKey Tablet and I can confirm it doesn't like Android 4.3 in general. Is not the Tablet is the App.

Maybe it is not Swiftkey. The back button has failed without Swiftkey running but it happens rarely. Back to the hunt for the cause...

Back Button not responding
Same here.
I was playing either Tapped Out or Real Racing 3 one day (2 weeks ago) and all of the sudden the back button wont respond. The light goes on but it does not function.
My 2012 Nexus 7 does not have any swiftkey installed nor is it rooted.
I formatted the Nexus 7 and it is still doing the same thing prior to downloading all my apps from Google Play.
I've noticed the same thing on recently on my Nexus 7. Back button is "pressed", but fails to do anything.
Seems to occur in several different apps.
I don't have Swiftkey installed.
It's only started happening recently, but not at a specific enough time that I can directly correlate it with some specific change (or app I installed/updated).
UPDATE:
For what it's worth, I noticed one other symptom that seems to correlate with the Back button misbehaving.
I use ADW Launcher Ex, and use PIN security on my lock screen, no widgets. I have the Quick Launch disabled. Normally, there would be nothing showing in the soft buttons row. Just recently, the dotted circle of the Quick Launch showed back up. I mostly mention this because it seems something is messing with my Soft Buttons,
UPDATE 2:
I found a way to reproduce: I use Battery Monitor Widget Pro (excellent app, btw). I have recordings every 1 min, history file size 4MB. When I look at the History as a list, and swipe down through the long columns of numbers, often the Back Button fails to work. That's a pretty uncommon way to Reproduce the problem, but something I noticed.
I have also had the Back Button stop while just browsing through my files using Root Explorer.
I had this problem today and found a cure.....it works for me anyway...do not allow Google Keyboard to update to version 2.0.19133.927933a.
Version 2.0.19003.937116a works fine.
I purchased my Nexus 7 today and it booted with 4.3....had it rooted before I allowed the 4.4.2 system update to apply.
I always turn off automatic app updates when I get a new device....this helped me find the problem.
I then applied the system update and it was still working well. Had to re-root, of course.
I had made TWRP backups before and after the system update, so I was in good shape.
Next I started removing apps I did not want, then went on to update apps I was keeping.
Next thing you know...the back button stops working for most operations.
After it aggravated me enough, I restored the post-4.4.2 update backup and the back button worked fine.
I started working my way back to my goal-config and it kept working until my last step......updating the keyboard. Then it failed.
I removed the update and after a reboot the back button works fine. Did this twice to verify the fix.
Hope it helps others!

I have the same issue after unlocked my N7 and did some customizations, would you please upload the working version of Google Keyboard so I could give it a try?
Thanks!
I don't currently have any online account to upload it to. If there is one here at XDA I am not aware of it.
If you PM me an email address I can certainly send the APK for the working version.
Hi,
My nexus 7 screen doesn't rotate back from landscape mode. This happens when I watch the BBC iPlayer. Then I have to uninstall the iPlayer and reboot the device each time. This was fine before going to Lollipop.
Any ideas what might be happening?

Check the settings in Display > Auto Rotate Screen. It might be disabling auto rotation but not toggling back.
If that's the case, you could use Tasker to turn auto rotation back on when you exit iPlayer.
I don't use the BBC iPlayer, but like the OP, I have been having this problem as well. Auto-rotate would work again after a reboot, but then just fail at any given time. I've also had this problem ever since Lollipop was installed to my device, and never when I had KitKat or even Jellybean on it. My Nexus 7 2013 is a 16 GB model, and it's on Lollipop 5.1.1 build number LMY47V.
I have this problem on CleanROM 6 with both Elemental and Glitch Kernel. It only happens after a couple of hours of use and a reboot fixes it. I have not been motivated enough to flash the stock kernel to see of that fixes it. I haven't seen it mentioned by anyone else in the Clean ROM thread.
Me too, came here to look for answers.
I hope it's not hardware related.
try clean restore to "stock"
I had this issue with grogg's rom (mostly stock) and went back the the cleanrom (closer to stock) with a full wipe, and it's back to working as it should. So, maybe just some sort of side effect or bad data somewhere.
Try a really "clean" reset of the OS/environment and see if that helps
Same here. Have to use certain apps to force the orientation to change

I've been having this problem on 4.4, 5.0.1, 5.1, stock rom, oakp, pa. And I found the following (in hope it would help fixing it):
1. Rebooting doesn't always fix it. Sometimes I have to clear cache + dalvik.
2. The issue happens less often when not using Nova Launcher and sticking to the Google Launcher.
3. The issue happens less often when switching off the magnetics sensor (that turns off the device when closing a 'smart' lid) using ElementalX kernel.
Could anyone confirm that?
Turn off your tablet. Try to press back cover hardly on N & S at nexus logo for a few second. Then turn on your tablet again. It should work.
I don't know why, but I also had this issue. I flashed stock 5.1.1 and rotation works normally.
If I had to guess, and I do..., I'd say it was an app causing the problem. Don't know what one or how though.
Flashing the stock kernel solved it for me. It's been a week and I have not seen the issue since.
I believe the problem is because the sensor board is either failing or just faulty and works on and off.
I hate the same problem and if you open CPU-Z and go to the sensor section when the screen doesn't rotate you can see most/ all of the sensors are not being picked up/detected
My fix is to shut down the hit my knuckle out of anger on the bottom of the tablet (On the screen and the back) Its as if the board is loose or has something that isn't making contact
Shot in the dark I guess but since I got this device, Snapchat has been terribly laggy and almost unusable. Specifically when using the keyboard for text. Sometimes when I launch it, the camera is just black for roughly 5 seconds and then the back camera comes on finally. The chat feature is very slow at times and the entire app seems to stall and crash at least once a day. Anyone else notice this?
A quick google search yielded several recent topics on various forums complaining about the same thing, all on 6.0 Marshmallow. Hopefully it's not just this device.
I'm getting this exact thing
I went through that too. Once I had to restart it to make the camera work again. My tip is do not try use volume keys until it load completely. It just frozen the app in a black screen. Isn't perfect but can be used.
It's probably not optimized as well for 6.0 yet
Snapchat hasn't been perfect for me, but I've never experienced any of those issues. The worst I get is a little delay when pressing the home button.

I have had this problem we will have to wait for an update!! Basically that's what I've been telling myself lately about marshmallow

I can tell you guys I had this problem on my Nexus 6 on Marshmallow, it has to be something related to 6.0, I'm on a LG G4 now and snapchat runs just fine.
Kinda laggy for me too. And I can't get it to play a notification sound when I recieve snaps. I have turned it on in settings and I get a notification as normal, but no sound. Does anyone else have this problem?
Just uninstalled it from the n5x will have to limit myself to using it on n72013 it was unusable. Crashes camera failed to load then started to affect the stock camera app, would cause system crashes and could only be sorted with a reboot.
Same here its completely horrible to use of this phone. Phone ****s itself every time I try use it!

Ok never mind then. I've been decrypted since I got the phone, until I took an OTA recently. It's been crap since then, but I guess it's unrelated

The past few updates have been good for me luckily.. Just don't try to send a snap while in landscape, I tried to add text and Swiftkey went all wonky and overlayed the screen even after I pressed Home, had to force close Snapchat and Swiftkey both :/
me too I have same issues the lag and so slowly for texting and even after update marshmallow update 6.0.1 the problem still the same I hope can anyone help me with issue what should to do and thanks you
So I am a power snapchat user and had this same problem and might have accidentally stumbled on a possible solution after having a login failure. I enabled the travel mode so it's not downloading constantly. I installed snapprefs and I can't explain why but it's flying now. No lag on window switching or opening the camera. I'm on 6.0.1 December rooted
Everytime I take video from Snapchat, it produces the sound "dug" at the first second of the video, never put my finger too hard on the phone so it isn't bcs of my finger knocking the screen, anybody know why?
