Galaxy Nexus LED flash has issues - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've had my galaxy nexus for a full 2 weeks and only recently I've noticed problems with the camera LED flash. (not the notification LED, the camera flash on the back of the phone.) Pretty much the LED on the phone will stop working most off the time for no reason at all.
I try to snap a pic with flash turned on but it won't do anything (only takes the pic but no flash), same with the camcorder and third party flashlight apps I've used. I actually managed to get it to work a few times but I havent been doing anything differently so it seems like it works at random.
The LED flash has not been functioning properly for the past 2 days and i even tried a factory reset to fix this but no luck unfortunately. Has anyone else had issues with this, or have any advice on how to fix this? i'm hoping its not a hardware issue.

I've had no issues with the flash so it seems you indeed have a hardware issue... TeslaLED works for sure, so you might want to try it though. Some other flashlight widgets seem to have issues with the phone.
You should be able to get the flash working at least in the camera app and in TeslaLED.

I have just tried Tesla led, it's not working on my nexus, but flash working well when shooting. I'm confused a bit.

TeslaLED working fine for me too.

I would bring the phone back to wherever you bought it, show the issue to them, and they should replace it. Sounds like a hardware issue, I've had the phone for > 3 weeks and my LED flash has never failed to turn on.

Reboot. Go into the ICS stock camera app. Manually turn on flash (force on). Take pictures. If the flash doesn't turn on every time, something is wrong with the hardware.

Anyone having an issue with the LED?

I bought two phones yesterday; one for me and one for my wife. Mine worked perfect fine but hers is having a weird issue with the led flash. At first it wouldn't turn on at all, rebooted the phone, took out the battery, and boom it worked with a flashlight app, but it still won't work with the camera app.
Anyone else having this issue?

if this was the vibrant forum i would say odin it back to stock and that may fix the problem but since our phone isnt rooted yet, id take it back to store

Camera light stopped working

Hi everyone,
I got my Samsung Galaxy S2 on Thursday and yesterday(Monday) I noticed the camera light stopped working and I don't know why? Does anyone have any troubleshooting methods for a similar issue? I know it worked before, I had extended controls with the flashlight toggle and worked fine now I'm not sure if that's what messed it up. Even if I try to take a picture the light won't flash. I'm not rooted and have done multiple master resets to try and fix the issue. I really don't want to do a warranty exchange.
Also I noticed that when I plug my phone to Samsung kies it states that my firmware isn't upgradable??
Thanks I'm advance for any guidance.

If you've done a master reset a few times and its still not working if you take a picture or use a flashlight app then I would mark this one off as a hardware issue and exchange it.
From what I heard Kies isn't setup for our phone yet so that's why your getting the issue your getting with kies.

this used to happen when my battery was low on g2x, i let it charge and flash is good i think power saving settings override it. flash uses some power believe it or not... u werent at low battery right? only other thing i can say is if after a master reset it does not work take it back.. do me a favor try tiny flashlight + led its a flashlight app in market and works with most phones i also think it works at low power like below 30 percent see if it works, but first try charging your battery then report back

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Camera Flash Inop

Having problem with my camera flash not working. I've tried calling Sprint and as usual they couldn't resolve the problem. The final step was to reset the phone back to factory. Which I don't want to do if I don't have to. I first noticed the problem when my 3rd party flashlight app didn't work. So I tried the camera and the led flash didn't work either. So I uninstalled the flashlight app to see if that was the problem. Still no flash. The led does work with the widget assistive light. So I know it's burnt out. Anyone know how to fix my problem? Thanx in advance

Camera Crashes/Doesn't Work [Verizon]

Hey guys,
I just purchased a galaxy nexus on eBay that has a broken camera. I replaced the module with one that is known working and it's still giving me the same behavior. That makes me think it's a software problem. Tried booting it without either camera and no luck. I only replaced the back camera.
I haven't Odin flashed the device, I just performed a factory reset and install of Cyanogenmod. The behavior is basically, I open the Camera app and it hangs until it says "Gallary isn't responding" with the force close action. Is there any way that it could be reading some corrupt data that a factory reset wouldn't get, but an Odin partition flash would? Any ideas?
Thanks,
-Free
Sounds like software issue. I would say fastboot or Odin the factory images and see if it fixes anything.

Okay so i have same problem... I dropped my Gnex in water, put it in rice for two days and then phone started without problem. Everything were working(camera, gallery...) The problem came when battery went out.. I charged the phone difficulty and when i tried turning it on nothing happened. Then i realised i had bricked my GNEX.
Made a little searching and fix it in that way - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760787
The phone started, everything seemed okay... Until i started camera app... Gived crashes all the time. I tried different roms, kernels, KitKat roms, JB roms, tried only to start front camera, only rear camera - same problem, force closed. And now i don't know what to do... Is there a possibility to have lost my camera drivers or something like that?
No cigar. Just performed an ODIN reflash to ICS and I'm not getting anything different. Darn, sounds like something else is the issue.

Screen does not rotate!

Hi,
My nexus 7 screen doesn't rotate back from landscape mode. This happens when I watch the BBC iPlayer. Then I have to uninstall the iPlayer and reboot the device each time. This was fine before going to Lollipop.
Any ideas what might be happening?

Check the settings in Display > Auto Rotate Screen. It might be disabling auto rotation but not toggling back.
If that's the case, you could use Tasker to turn auto rotation back on when you exit iPlayer.
I don't use the BBC iPlayer, but like the OP, I have been having this problem as well. Auto-rotate would work again after a reboot, but then just fail at any given time. I've also had this problem ever since Lollipop was installed to my device, and never when I had KitKat or even Jellybean on it. My Nexus 7 2013 is a 16 GB model, and it's on Lollipop 5.1.1 build number LMY47V.
I have this problem on CleanROM 6 with both Elemental and Glitch Kernel. It only happens after a couple of hours of use and a reboot fixes it. I have not been motivated enough to flash the stock kernel to see of that fixes it. I haven't seen it mentioned by anyone else in the Clean ROM thread.
Me too, came here to look for answers.
I hope it's not hardware related.
try clean restore to "stock"
I had this issue with grogg's rom (mostly stock) and went back the the cleanrom (closer to stock) with a full wipe, and it's back to working as it should. So, maybe just some sort of side effect or bad data somewhere.
Try a really "clean" reset of the OS/environment and see if that helps
Same here. Have to use certain apps to force the orientation to change

I've been having this problem on 4.4, 5.0.1, 5.1, stock rom, oakp, pa. And I found the following (in hope it would help fixing it):
1. Rebooting doesn't always fix it. Sometimes I have to clear cache + dalvik.
2. The issue happens less often when not using Nova Launcher and sticking to the Google Launcher.
3. The issue happens less often when switching off the magnetics sensor (that turns off the device when closing a 'smart' lid) using ElementalX kernel.
Could anyone confirm that?
Turn off your tablet. Try to press back cover hardly on N & S at nexus logo for a few second. Then turn on your tablet again. It should work.
I don't know why, but I also had this issue. I flashed stock 5.1.1 and rotation works normally.
If I had to guess, and I do..., I'd say it was an app causing the problem. Don't know what one or how though.
Flashing the stock kernel solved it for me. It's been a week and I have not seen the issue since.
I believe the problem is because the sensor board is either failing or just faulty and works on and off.
I hate the same problem and if you open CPU-Z and go to the sensor section when the screen doesn't rotate you can see most/ all of the sensors are not being picked up/detected
My fix is to shut down the hit my knuckle out of anger on the bottom of the tablet (On the screen and the back) Its as if the board is loose or has something that isn't making contact
