Since galaxy s2 supports up 10 touch on it's screen,i hope someone out there would develop a lock screen which unlocks once five fingers placed on the screen and followed by the android pattern lock...if can add some animation...just an idea...hope someone out there do it...
not such a bad ideea tbh
you'd also amaze some friends who don't know much about touch screens
5 is a bit crowded, plus you have to use both hands, but 4 seems nice to me
Plus it'd 100% prevent accidental unlock (happens to me with some lockscreens).
If you feel so...i hope I could make this on my own...but yeah, it would be cool...like they give us the choice to select the desired amount of finger we wanna place...
+1
My girl friend would really like this
really nice idea It would be annoying when you want to unlock at outside for example on incoming call though
I just returned my TMO SGSII today because of all the vertical lines / blobs on the screen when low light or grey backgrounds.
it was very, very, disturbing to my eyes when i'm using the phone at night.
I've gone through 10+ replacements, with all different manufacturing dates on the box.
every single one of them had lines.
ppl in TMO SGSII forum says that its problem with the driver not working so well with the chip (or something)
i called samsung and talked to executive representative, asking if the phone is going to have any software update any time soon (not that it's really going to fix the problem )
they said since the phone is new, there are no planned updates so far.
so i just gave up and i'm back with my old captivate on tmo network with only edge speed..
i wouldn't want to pay more than half a thousand dollars and get a defect phone (it's defect at least to me)
the display is what i mostly look into when i'm trying to buy a phone.
anyways,
do you guys think there will be any possibility that GN would have problems regarding screen display like TMO SGSII?
(fact that GN is not using exynos? - if it really matters)
sorry for the nooby question
thx in advance.
There is no real noob questions when it comes to this device... We hardly know about it!
I think it will be a perfect screen, no lines, samsung takes a lot of pride in this screen I highly doubt something like lines in the screen will show up an issue with this phone.
Side note...so did t mobile give you a refund for your sgs2 our anything?
I am my mom's "little elitest"
Deal with it!
well, i paid $550 at first,
and i got all of it back in cash.
i don't know if you are supposed to get everything back, but if not, it's because i know the owner of my tmo local store so well. my girlfriend's dad runs that place.
i got my my hands on TMO SGSII on Oct. 7th or 8th, not even an hour after the phone got shipped to the store for the first time.
plus, i get lot of things for free. screen protectors, cases, etc. lol
anyway, thx for the answer. u have my thanks
it's good to know that it'll have perfect screen.
i hope tmo really gets this phone soon, cuz i have 10GB plan, but i'm stuck with EDGE!!!!!!
That's terrible! Edge must be killing you! Well I think we ask wish t mobile gets this soon.
I plan to get the lte version on verizon actually
I am my mom's "little elitest"
Deal with it!
good for you
i'm better off with TMO network.. verizon somehow doesn't work well in my area..
i usually got 12+ Mbps with TMO SGSII when i had it.

I don't think you'll have any problems with the screen of the NG. The SGS II had really bad colours because of Mdnie or so. Can't remember how it's called. When you flash CM7 on to the SGS II you won't experience this lines etc. because they don't include the drivers like Samsung does.

i see. not only the vertical lines, some pictures would get blurred a lot. like stock blue wallpaper on TMO SGSII.
but CM7 is not out for the TMO SGSII right?
not sure if this is what you were looking for, but Androidcentral just did some super macro up close shots of the Galaxy Note's screen (which is just about the exact same as the screen on the GN, but lower pixel density).
http://www.androidcentral.com/close-and-personal-hd-super-amoled
These pictures make the screen look suuuuper crisp. Hope this helps.

Sry can't help you with the TMO version had the GSM international one.
Ah and I forgot something. Mdnie (or so) is a "feature" from Samsung to provide natural colours so it shouldn't be included in any AOSP ROM.

Hello. I bought both a Sprint and Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Amoung the many differences is the S PEN. The Sprint one does not have tne non-touch of the stylus to perform funtions on the phone.
For example, I can swipe pages or select a function without ever touching the screen with Verizon' stylus. And both sylus' are compatible with ea h phone. Tne manuals are correct for version.
My question: Has any body else experieced this. Is there a way to tell which stylus model you have? Would buying one off from Samsung products page help? Thanks!
My guess is what you are experiencing as non-touch S-Pen activities are actually the result of a mis-calibrated S-Pen. The S-Pen can actually be calibrated by carefully removing the button and turning the potentiometer nearest the tip clockwise with a tiny screwdriver. ( Clockwise decreases sensitivity )
I did this myself, and it solved the problem of Air-View activating touch elements. My service is with Sprint, by the way.
Are you finding other differences?

There are no differences between the two. As mentioned in your other thread (Verizon GNII section), my roommate has the Verizon flavor and each stylus works the same with both of our phones.
Here is the solution for a mis-calibrated pen - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34995231

I guess my point is...which is correct? Should you be able to use it without touching the screen like Verizon manual shows, or do you have to use the hover feature with the light beam like the Sprint manual tutorial shows? Each is different. Thdy both work as it is stated for each carrier. ThT is what got me to finally post to see if anyone else who might have both to do a side by side comparison. Thanks!

your Sprint one is correct the thing you are experiencing on the Verizon one is a bug that had also been reported (and fixed) on the Sprint version... although if you like it better there is nothing wrong with "uncalibrating" your Sprint stylus so that air view touches on your Sprint one too... it's more of a matter of personal preference

Finally an answer. Thank you! I will be trying the "uncalibrating" method as it is really cool. Have a great day.
I guess I am going to have to actually go into the Verizon and Sprint stores to look at their models as even after "calibrating" both, they still function the same. Like I said before, the Verizon S Pen not actually having to touch the screen is totally cool. If you want to swipe to a different page it does it in the air. If you want to select a function or App, you just "tap" it without touching the screen. It has no round circle indicator that shows up like the Sprint model. I can't believe that I am the only one to have this working like this.
I tried the hard tap calibrating and also where you take the actual button cover off and calibrate to try to make them the same but they both still do their thing. And both S Pens function the same way if I use them on either phone. Trust me, if you could get this to work you would love it. I just wish I could figure out how to get the Sprint S Pen to do the same as it seems like it is missing something after using the one from Verizon.
Solved thanks to XDA-member!

That's also the reason why you don't get the air view functionality on the Verizon because it always thinks it is touching the screen. Hope this helps.

Yea! You are totally right. I wasn't sure at first what you meant by the pinky thing, but once I put my pinky on the tip of the S Pen and tried to swipe or whatever, it works. I guess now I just need to "jam" the rib in on the Sprint one and I will be good to go! HA! Thanks so much. You made my night.
I surprisingly couldn't find a thread asking this question, but if there is one I apologize in advance. I watched the dreadfully corny Galaxy S4 unveiling, and wondered which S4 features could realistically make it to the Note 2 when we get Android 4.2?
Air view for example, which is basically what we can do with our spen when hovering over objects, but without having to use the pen, seems like more of a software related feature that we could get with Android 4.2.
Being able to swipe screens without touching the screen, which is great when you have dirty fingers, is a tricky one. It could be that the screen, which is hardware naturally, is simply more sensitive on the S4 than the Note 2. If that's the case we probably wouldn't get this feature with a 4.2 update. It could also be software that makes this possible as demonstrated with some apps that allow you to interact without touching the display. If that's the case, I guess it could be heading our way.
The camera feature that allows you to use the front and back camera at the same time on the S4 (which I find very cool) SEEMS software related to me, but I'm not really sure about this (or any of these questions), which is why I created this thread
Would any devs out there care to comment on which features from the S4 they could see coming to the Note 2 via a 4.2 software update, and which ones we definitely won't be able to have (like infrared)? I don't want an S4, but it does have a few software features that I would love to see on the Note 2 when 4.2 arrives.
@Mods - This thread is aimed at developers, but I wasn't sure exactly whether to put it there or in General, or in Q&A. My apologies if this is the wrong section.

Hope all of them are in!
I guess the screen swipe without touching the screen should be pretty easy, the front facing camera/sensors should be able to detect that pretty easily, the software changes probably will at least have some sort of port for the Note 2. The Air view with the fingers i'm not sure, it might need some sort of hardware beyond the existing on the note 2, and if it doesn't anything else, i'm pretty sure someone will port it!

That is, if the air gestures are even camera-related. It might be an entirely different thing, though. Based on the initial hands-on videos, it may be the case. It doesn't trigger unless the hands are very very close to the display. Hmm...
I hope the camera interface makes it to the Note 2. I like it.
Infrared and temperature.
this is XXXDDDAAA
air view needs the screen to be adjusted differently from regular capacitive so we probably wont get that
the air gestures we will get because they work like the wake up motion thing we have
eye scroll will work
Hi
After my note 12.2 crashed in 2015 and I had to stop using it (save the newborn and first Christmas pics so I can image it when I get time) I have been without a tablet. I am desperate for one and the s6 has no headphone jack.
I'm trying to buy a tab s4 on ebay. The LTE 6gb 256 unlocked Korean version. I want to make sure that I get the right one that has no bloat Korean software.
Someone said that you need to get the non - cell provider version here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s4/help/lte-verizon-version-providers-t3826965/page2
I have searched here to the best of my ability, but I can't find out how to tell them apart.
I would like to know the following if anyone can help I would be grateful.
1. How do I tell the non carrier version of the Korean 6bg unlocked LTE S4 835 from the carrier versions? I just want to make sure that I get the correct tablet on ebay.
2. Is the bootloader unlocked on the Korean version? I thought I read that but can't find it now.
3. Is it rootable? I just want LMT and adblock
I think this is the guide I would use, correct?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-0-sm-t83x-t3928278/post79483624#post79483624
4. Is there anything else you would think I need to know about before buying this?
Thank you very much for your help. I'm grateful. I've just been without a tablet for a long time and don't want to screw up this purchase. I LOVED my 12.2 and I really screwed up buying my note 9 from Verizon. I should have gotten the international version. I despise that Facebook is an undeleteable system app on the note 9. I just want to get one of the last decent android tablets and it seems like the tab s4 from Korea is it.
Sincerely
MH
Additional note
Hi
I just wanted to add that the main use for me will be
Reading pdfs and ebooks in fbreader - main desired use even though I will spend more time overall surfing and email and Twitter, etc... I really need a way to read things quickly that just works AND that can do the other things that I don't want a laptop or desktop for.
Surfing Twitter insta
Calendar
Email
Carrying around at work for light use at meetings
I have a thinkpad X1 yoga for laptop and meeting note typing use. I like it but it's cumbersome and not as intuitive as my 12.2 used to be for twitter and reading books so I really need a replacement for my 12.2
Again a really big thank you for any help you can offer me.
