I received mine in the mail yesterday and wanted to give my mini review.

I currently have or had:
G1
G2
G2x
Sensation
Hercules
The reason I mention this is because this phone is not much nicer then the G2, G2x or the sensation but this phone is still solid.
I paid the outright price and coming from these phones I just cant see the difference for me to spend $560. This is just based on the feature and feel of the phone vs what I already own. If you were coming from a old phone by all means this is slightly better then the rest I mentioned but not $560 better.
Pros:
No pentile
No screen door effect (spaced pixels)
No Yellow Tint
No over colored greens and oranges
Fast web browser alive, I mean WOW! Flash sites run very well
NFC
Decent processor
Fastest download speed from Tmobile device yet
Very light
Nice feel in hand
Cons:
Defective screen (I had the pixelated, washed out /brushed steel stripes) the artifacts stay in the same place and is noticeable when I pull down the notification bar.
DPI is way to HIGH for such a resolution - Not bad but should be a option
Stutters 10% of the time
Car audio does not have the Voodoo punch from stock, not sure about later development or if a compatible chip is in there.
This phone did not blow me away but will offer it to my girlfriend over the sensation for the only reason being the GPS is terrible int he sensation and we use the navigation a lot and wanted to smash the sensation many times.
This phone is very close to being sent back but even if keeping this is being exchanged for a different screen.
Does any that bought from Tmobile have a perfect/good screen? If so please post pics.

This seems to be a pretty common, but then again we typically only hear from people who have this issue. I'm planning on heading back to the T-mobile store and compare my unit to their display models. Hopefully there will be a difference and convince an exchange.

Do you think it's a qc issue? Or is it a hardware (LCD or another issue that they all will have?) flaw?

This is my first Super AMOLED device so I'm not sure what to expect. I came from MyTouch4G before this and an SE x10i before that, and both fo them had LCD's iirc.
My friend has a Sprint GS2 and I got to compare them side by side. I noticed it's much less apparent on the Sprint one (Had to get up really close and carefully stare at it) so you almost cant tell, and when the brightness is up to about 30% it's just gone completely.
I tried to show him the lines I was talking about but he couldn't see them at all, and ended up calling me insane. So it's also the eye of the beholder.. so to speak. I don't have much evidence to go on other than what I'm seeing, and am fairly convinced it's hardware issue. I remember the MT4G had 2 different batch of screens where the viewing angles and vibrance was substantially different. This might be the same case, though I would expect more from "Super AMOLED Plus".

Based on the pictures someone posted, I find it unnerving that it's only one the right side of the screen.
It's almost as though it's hardware related in the sense that it has something to do with whatever is right beneath that part of the screen. Could it be heat related? The CPU being there? etc.
I don't remember seeing this on European GS2 when I played with it.
This is why even if the prime wasn't coming, I'd be hesitant to pick up the GS2 as the screen itself is a new line of manufacturing....and I'd rather let the first adopters deal with the imperfections while they work the kinks out in their manufacturing process.

I'm on my second SGS2 in two days. The first one was bad. Very bad. Defective screen: grey stripes, washed out colors. Extreme stuttering. Ok. Recieved my second one 3 hours ago. Great screen. Practically no stuttering.... until the first hard reboot. Bam! As bad as the first one except the screen. Laggy, choppy. Impossible to enjoy. Wtf????

I've noticed stuttering with the screen animations on. Once I turned them off, no problems. I've got the grey stripes, as well. If I keep my brightness around 50%, more or less, I don't really notice them. Debating on whether an exchange is in order.

Even The Almighty Launcher Pro really sucks on this phone. I'm returning it. It's not worth it.

just to be fair
Launcher Pro hasn't been performing well since Nexus S came out, and all the newer devices that came after it, like the original SGS2.
many other launchers are working way better/faster than Launcher Pro now
in other words Launcher Pro is kinda old school now, it needs to adapt to the new devices

Go Launcher EX. Same thing. Jumpy/choppy/laggy.

Launcher pro runs like crap on every phone.
That launcher has and will be the worst launcher I've ever tried to date. My gs2 flies with the stock launcher and launcher 7. I haven't tried adw as I kinda like touch wiz.

Can you do something for us, plz? Can you hard reboot your phone (VolUp+Power)? I'd like to know if the phone will stay the same - stutter free.

Working perfectly fine over here. Had a tiny bit of thr brushed steel issue, but turned up brightness and it went away. Other than that, he phone is blowing me away.

I really wish someone could post and show the lines you guys are seeing. I dont' see this on my screen at all. The little stuttering is very very little and I only see it slightly when pinch zooming on the homescreen. The HTC phones do the same exact thing. Nothing I would return over.

New white ET4G to come with wolfson DAC?

Anyone know if this is true? Read it on another forum. I believe the black ET4G comes with a yamaha DAC which is locked from what I've gathered. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I didn't even knowa white one wad coming out. do you have any links?

The date gels since Sprint has launched phones on a Sunday in the past. I hope it holds true as its three days after my birthday, so it'd make a nice few day late gift.
That thread is nothing official but it would seem silly for Spint to be the only carrier with the GSII and not have the white model. Plus it seems the white Evo sold well though I have ZERO facts or figures to back that up. Just know I see quite a few of them out in the wild.

I'm curious about how popular white is. I suspect white isurged in popularity with Apple's problem with the white iPhone 4 issue. I think subconsciencly this triggered people to want white phones. I see a lot more of them now.

I work at a preferred retailer, and even though I haven't heard anything about it, it makes total sense. Our prices are set to end 1/7, same with mail in rebates. It almost ALWAYS seems that a new phone launches when the pricing planogram resets. I hope so, I like the white. :-D

I don't see why it wouldn't. The OG Epic had it (loved using Voodoo sound) and with HTC pushing Beats Audio, they may want to improve audio even though they wouldn't market it.

Well that is some pretty good evidence to help support the date. I hope it holds true and by that point a solid build of CM7 is done and ready for the GSIIE4GT. I can't imagine a world without a more or less "vanilla" AOSP version of Android.
Trying to get this thread back on topic... I'm no rom developer but wouldn't a change in chipset require two different roms? Seems silly for a manufacture to have to support what is essentially two different devices for what on the surface seems like nothing more than a color change. Thus this seems unlikely.

Flushed colors...

The display on my SGH-T989 is great but I'm coming from a MyTouch 4G and the colors, mainly the white balance, seems kind of "washed out". I'd attach a screen shot but on my PC monitor it looks fine. I viewed the screenshot on my phone and held it up to PC and there's definitely an inconsistency, whites aren't white, blacks not black.
I'm going to take it in to a T-mobile store today and compare it to the floor model - I'd much rather not pay the $50 restocking fee if the solution lies in some settings within the phone. I've already turned off Auto-Brightness and played with that setting - if only there was a "white-balance" or "contrast", I think that would do it.
Any insight on this would be much appreciated!

Honestly I think I felt the same way after I switched from my mytouch 4g. Hell I still want to rebuy a mytouch 4g. Anyways now I do notice how much crisper everything is on the sgs2. If your model does have a difference and you want to return it and not exchange then just ask them. Say this isnt what you paid for etc, but be nice about it. Worked for me atleast..

I took it to the local t-mobile store and compared it to the floor model, the rep noticed a difference in the hue - washed out whites, etc. - he said he would do a defective device exchange with no restocking fee.
Has anybody else out there experienced this degraded screen issue??

What would you do?

I have about 4 days left in my 14 day return window for this phone.Let me put this into context.I had a nexus s someone offered me money I sold it.Anyways I bought this galaxy s2.The cpu not being exynos just erks me but not quite enough for a return but now its the blob thing on the screen annoying me.These are the 2 major issues I have with this phone.I dont want a galaxynexus well sorta lol but its not even out for tmobile yet it not having gorilla glass is a pretty big deal breaker for me I have my reasons.NO HTC phones no thx I have given them to many chances
I could use my old cliq till galaxy s3 comes out but thats in like god knows how long a year from now for tmobile? Or return this and maybe pray the HD version comes out? fuq I dunno

I would keep the phone for one more and wait for the s3, whenever s3 comes out, sell s2 and get the new phone. This is what I will do with my s2.

I don't know what more you can ask from a phone. This phone does it all except for led notifcations. To me the lines and blobs are not noticeable until you try to replicate by turning down brightness and look at a grey picture in a dark room, that's pretty ridiculous. I don't think I would want a higher res screen as i like the font size and overall look.
There will always be something better around the corner, if you need a phone this is a great choice IMO. I was able to get mine for $300 brand new from a buddy that works the cell phone kiosk at a store I work at. I still have an upgrade available.
Yes the development is kind of slow right now, but it should pick up and even if it does not the phone is still amazing stock.

By the time the Galaxy S3 comes out for T-mobile that might take 4+ months after announcement. Even then we have no idea what to expect other than maybe a 720 display and 8 to 12 mp camera, 1.2 to 2ghz dual-core processor with ICS. The processor is all mental after the update I dont see a lag, while the exynos might have better benchmarks in real life situations nobody would notice unless you use both devices. If your not happy return it if you like it alot keep it.

you also know that you can overclock it,i got mine running at 1.8

I would keep the phone. If anything do not return it to Tmobile because they won't meet the true value. If you decide to trade it for something else, you can find a much better deal on the marketplace. Bottom line, do not return it for max value and you can trade for another phone on the marketplace or keep it if that's what you decide.

Still worth getting sprint galaxy nexus?

I just got a job at coporate sprint store. So i trying to decide on what phone to get. I always wanted a galaxy nexus but was wondering any issue(especially sprint) with the device. I know the gs3 is out but im really not feeling that device.... So anybody with the sprint galaxy nexus still recommended the phone with the current devices sprint offer???

How often can employees get subsidized upgrades? Sorry I don't have Sprint so I can't answer but I've always wondered about that....

I so insanely recommend it, and grab one of the slim extended batteries you guys are giving away. I run mmuzzy's pure stock AOSP 4.1.1 JRO03L build and it is flawless and smooth as butter. I compare my Nexus to the SIII every so often when I stop in my local Sprint store, and I don't regret my choice.

The GNex is good and will be for a while.
Although in Sprint's case, I may get the GS3, since the Sprint version is really gimped.

Yea ill probably get the nexus. As for are they paying your bill lets just say its ALMOST free... But im excited for this job, even though i read reviews of people hating to work for sprint. To me it depends on location of the sprint store you work at. Im pretty sure most are better than some... But what isnt???

That's a good way to look at it and be positive. There was a lot of corruption in my store and it was very stressful. I learned A LOT when I was there. Are you going to be a rep or a tech?

A rep. Just started today doing ilearn you know boring stuff lol! But everybody i work with seems cool so far. Mostly everybody that i work with came from the local radioshacks lol so i find that really weird in a way???? even the sprint store in my area mall ALL their employees are former radioshack employees!!!

Former Radio Shack employee here also trying for the local Sprint stores to be a rep. Plus, when I was at Radio Shack my first year I was top sales for Sprint in my entire district, so it would make a lot of sense for me to transition to Sprint eventually.

If I had the choice for a GSM one i would go that route. But if you're only choice is sprint go with the gnex. Its totally worth it. Software > Hardware. Even though the GS3 has its own cm10 there are numerous issues and it will never run correctly or as efficiently as touchwiz does on that device. If you like pure android the gnex is your device.

Agreed. If I had to choose a new phone on Sprint right now I'd choose the Gnex again. If nothing else for the onscreen keys. If you're a vanilla Android fan it's a no brainer.

Keep in mind he gets the direct employee plan. He's actually getting a better deal out of it than he would on GSM for what he'll be getting at the employee rate.

You better believe with my discount im sticking with the cdma model!!! First day today and all we sold were iphones, gs3, and evo lte. But that was also what was brought back in with people trying to figure out why they cant use the market lol!

Thanks guys for the feedback. Anybody have any major issues with the sprint model? Nobody really said anything about issues. Played with the store demo today at work and the phone is still on ics and it was so smooth and fast. Bet its a beast on JB!

I use mmuzzy's pure stock untouched AOSP 4.1 build and have not a single issue. Your experience with the Nexus should be very good.

Just make sure the screen is up to par. Turn it down to 0% and look at the calculator and see if the darker buttons have a purple tint. If so you have a defective screen or at least a visual defect.

Any phone can do that. Its a big problem with LED displays. Just get it switched out since he is going carrier route.

I will give you my opinion as someone who had the GNEX (on Verizon) for the past 6 months and just made the switch to the S3 2 days ago......
Let me first give some on the positives of the GNEX. It gets updates and as far as custom Roms are concerned and everything usually is in full working order. You won't see a list of non working things in it's thread. It is great knowing when someone releases something it will just work.
The device is smooth. On ICS it was smooth and on JB even more. I never had any issues with Lag.
Now for the reason I decided to leave the GNEX. The screen quality is terrible. Even if you get one with a good screen, it is still pretty bad, especially on stock with altering any colors. Luckily with custom kernels you can help the screen quite a bit but if your screen has a purple tint or lines through it at lower brightness there is nothing you can really do to fix those issues.
The camera, oh boy the camera!!! In daylight and outdoor shots the camera takes some amazing pictures. Go indoors with non natural light or low lit areas and you can barely make out people's faces in the pic (a little exaggerated but you get the point). Having a 2 year old and not wanting to carry a camera around with me every day a good camera in my phone while maybe not important to everyone is pretty important to me.
The battery life. The LTE battery life is an embarrassment. I do not think you can really test this on Sprint yet since so one really has LTE but on Verizon, if you have LTE on you would be lucky if you can hit 2 hours of on screen time and that is with the 2100mAh extended battery. With Sprint I guess you can really only test it on 3G and 3G will always perform better for battery. But I switched to Verizon from Sprint for it's LTE network and when they got the GNEX is when I made the jump. It was the first Verizon phone I actually wanted.
Also, when I first switched to the GNEX, I was coming from a Sprint Epic 4G Touch. When putting them side by side I felt like I was downgrading by keeping the GNEX. After 2 days I actually packed up the GNEX and was about to send it back and port back to Sprint but I decided to stick it out. I just didn't want to go back to GB and a Wimax phone knowing Sprint is doing away with the technology.
Oh, and another thing I am not a fan of that most people love are the on screen buttons. They waste to much space for no reason. I was to use all of my 4.6" screen. Why would I want to take away from that! It is not like the space is not there on the bottom of the device to add capacitive buttons! I might be in the minority on this one though as a lot of folks enjoy their on screen buttons and customizing them.
Onto the S3. While I did not have it that long and I also need to run now that I spent so much time on the GNEX, it seems to be an amazing device. I have had for 2 days now I have yet to root it. It feels so good on stock and I am really enjoying the experience I am in no rush to do it. I have nothing against TW and I enjoyed it on the E4GT as well. As a matter of fact their are lots of people who want to flash software and run themes that mimic the S3 so it can't be that bad. I used to run an S3 theme on my GNEX and then removed it saying no matter how good the theme is my phone is no S3!
The screen on the S3 is gorgeous. Much closer to the Super Amoled Plus Screen I was used to. The device is super thin and light. Feels great in the hand. I like not having the buttons on the screen. I get to enjoy all 4.8 inches of it!
Battery life seems to be great as well. I have yet to kill it in the 2 days with it. I was at 2.5 hours of on screen times after 14 hours of being unplugged and was at 40% battery left. It felt good knowing that I would have a device that I can actually use all day and not worry about it dying on me at some point.
The camera is so much better in low lit area's and it also has no shutter lag like the GNEX. Although I still think the E4GT took better low light pics then the S3, it still shines way above the GNEX in this category.
As far as smoothness is concerned. While the specs scream latest and greatest and benchmarks definitely back that up as well, it is no smoother then the GNEX is so nothing to worry about there.
Anyway, to wrap it up you need to decide what is important to you and go with it. The S3 fit my needs better at this time and I feel like the GNEX just came up a little short in area's where it could have really shined.
At this point if I was interested in a GNEX device, I would probably be looking to see about the next GNEX which hopefully addresses it short comings....
Oh, one last thing to consider. The LTE radio's in the Verizon GNEX has caused so may issues with a lot of users devices, I went through 3 before I got one that worked well, it will be hard to tell if Sprint has the same issues until more users are in an LTE area. So you might have problems down the line when they start flipping the switch. Jut something to think about that you might not know when you first get the device.....
