Still worth getting sprint galaxy nexus? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I just got a job at coporate sprint store. So i trying to decide on what phone to get. I always wanted a galaxy nexus but was wondering any issue(especially sprint) with the device. I know the gs3 is out but im really not feeling that device.... So anybody with the sprint galaxy nexus still recommended the phone with the current devices sprint offer???

How often can employees get subsidized upgrades? Sorry I don't have Sprint so I can't answer but I've always wondered about that....

I so insanely recommend it, and grab one of the slim extended batteries you guys are giving away. I run mmuzzy's pure stock AOSP 4.1.1 JRO03L build and it is flawless and smooth as butter. I compare my Nexus to the SIII every so often when I stop in my local Sprint store, and I don't regret my choice.

CDMA=Garbage.
Unless they are paying your phone bill for you get yourself a GSM one.

You're working at a corporate Sprint store? I feel bad for you lol. Well, only if it is a service and repair. Those stupid CSAT surveys are DUMB. Not even mentioning selling jam boxes and SPC. Literally the most stressful job I've ever had LOL.
Get the Nexus. Touchwiz is garbage.
Sent from my GNEX.

Get either one IMO, flip a coin.
The GS3 is getting more stuff all the time.
The GNex is good and will be for a while.
Although in Sprint's case, I may get the GS3, since the Sprint version is really gimped.

Yea ill probably get the nexus. As for are they paying your bill lets just say its ALMOST free... But im excited for this job, even though i read reviews of people hating to work for sprint. To me it depends on location of the sprint store you work at. Im pretty sure most are better than some... But what isnt???

That's a good way to look at it and be positive. There was a lot of corruption in my store and it was very stressful. I learned A LOT when I was there. Are you going to be a rep or a tech?
Sent from my GNEX.

A rep. Just started today doing ilearn you know boring stuff lol! But everybody i work with seems cool so far. Mostly everybody that i work with came from the local radioshacks lol so i find that really weird in a way???? even the sprint store in my area mall ALL their employees are former radioshack employees!!!

Former Radio Shack employee here also trying for the local Sprint stores to be a rep. Plus, when I was at Radio Shack my first year I was top sales for Sprint in my entire district, so it would make a lot of sense for me to transition to Sprint eventually.

If I had the choice for a GSM one i would go that route. But if you're only choice is sprint go with the gnex. Its totally worth it. Software > Hardware. Even though the GS3 has its own cm10 there are numerous issues and it will never run correctly or as efficiently as touchwiz does on that device. If you like pure android the gnex is your device.

Agreed. If I had to choose a new phone on Sprint right now I'd choose the Gnex again. If nothing else for the onscreen keys. If you're a vanilla Android fan it's a no brainer.

Keep in mind he gets the direct employee plan. He's actually getting a better deal out of it than he would on GSM for what he'll be getting at the employee rate.

You better believe with my discount im sticking with the cdma model!!! First day today and all we sold were iphones, gs3, and evo lte. But that was also what was brought back in with people trying to figure out why they cant use the market lol!

Thanks guys for the feedback. Anybody have any major issues with the sprint model? Nobody really said anything about issues. Played with the store demo today at work and the phone is still on ics and it was so smooth and fast. Bet its a beast on JB!

I use mmuzzy's pure stock untouched AOSP 4.1 build and have not a single issue. Your experience with the Nexus should be very good.

Just make sure the screen is up to par. Turn it down to 0% and look at the calculator and see if the darker buttons have a purple tint. If so you have a defective screen or at least a visual defect.

Any phone can do that. Its a big problem with LED displays. Just get it switched out since he is going carrier route.
Sent from my GNEX.

I will give you my opinion as someone who had the GNEX (on Verizon) for the past 6 months and just made the switch to the S3 2 days ago......
Let me first give some on the positives of the GNEX. It gets updates and as far as custom Roms are concerned and everything usually is in full working order. You won't see a list of non working things in it's thread. It is great knowing when someone releases something it will just work.
The device is smooth. On ICS it was smooth and on JB even more. I never had any issues with Lag.
Now for the reason I decided to leave the GNEX. The screen quality is terrible. Even if you get one with a good screen, it is still pretty bad, especially on stock with altering any colors. Luckily with custom kernels you can help the screen quite a bit but if your screen has a purple tint or lines through it at lower brightness there is nothing you can really do to fix those issues.
The camera, oh boy the camera!!! In daylight and outdoor shots the camera takes some amazing pictures. Go indoors with non natural light or low lit areas and you can barely make out people's faces in the pic (a little exaggerated but you get the point). Having a 2 year old and not wanting to carry a camera around with me every day a good camera in my phone while maybe not important to everyone is pretty important to me.
The battery life. The LTE battery life is an embarrassment. I do not think you can really test this on Sprint yet since so one really has LTE but on Verizon, if you have LTE on you would be lucky if you can hit 2 hours of on screen time and that is with the 2100mAh extended battery. With Sprint I guess you can really only test it on 3G and 3G will always perform better for battery. But I switched to Verizon from Sprint for it's LTE network and when they got the GNEX is when I made the jump. It was the first Verizon phone I actually wanted.
Also, when I first switched to the GNEX, I was coming from a Sprint Epic 4G Touch. When putting them side by side I felt like I was downgrading by keeping the GNEX. After 2 days I actually packed up the GNEX and was about to send it back and port back to Sprint but I decided to stick it out. I just didn't want to go back to GB and a Wimax phone knowing Sprint is doing away with the technology.
Oh, and another thing I am not a fan of that most people love are the on screen buttons. They waste to much space for no reason. I was to use all of my 4.6" screen. Why would I want to take away from that! It is not like the space is not there on the bottom of the device to add capacitive buttons! I might be in the minority on this one though as a lot of folks enjoy their on screen buttons and customizing them.
Onto the S3. While I did not have it that long and I also need to run now that I spent so much time on the GNEX, it seems to be an amazing device. I have had for 2 days now I have yet to root it. It feels so good on stock and I am really enjoying the experience I am in no rush to do it. I have nothing against TW and I enjoyed it on the E4GT as well. As a matter of fact their are lots of people who want to flash software and run themes that mimic the S3 so it can't be that bad. I used to run an S3 theme on my GNEX and then removed it saying no matter how good the theme is my phone is no S3!
The screen on the S3 is gorgeous. Much closer to the Super Amoled Plus Screen I was used to. The device is super thin and light. Feels great in the hand. I like not having the buttons on the screen. I get to enjoy all 4.8 inches of it!
Battery life seems to be great as well. I have yet to kill it in the 2 days with it. I was at 2.5 hours of on screen times after 14 hours of being unplugged and was at 40% battery left. It felt good knowing that I would have a device that I can actually use all day and not worry about it dying on me at some point.
The camera is so much better in low lit area's and it also has no shutter lag like the GNEX. Although I still think the E4GT took better low light pics then the S3, it still shines way above the GNEX in this category.
As far as smoothness is concerned. While the specs scream latest and greatest and benchmarks definitely back that up as well, it is no smoother then the GNEX is so nothing to worry about there.
Anyway, to wrap it up you need to decide what is important to you and go with it. The S3 fit my needs better at this time and I feel like the GNEX just came up a little short in area's where it could have really shined.
At this point if I was interested in a GNEX device, I would probably be looking to see about the next GNEX which hopefully addresses it short comings....
Oh, one last thing to consider. The LTE radio's in the Verizon GNEX has caused so may issues with a lot of users devices, I went through 3 before I got one that worked well, it will be hard to tell if Sprint has the same issues until more users are in an LTE area. So you might have problems down the line when they start flipping the switch. Jut something to think about that you might not know when you first get the device.....

Should I get the Epic 4g Touch?

Ok so I currently have the nexus s 4g, i am due for an upgrade. I was just curious whether you guys think i should upgrade to the epic 4g touch, or wait for a better phone down the line (galaxy nexus). These are my thoughts:
The epic 4g touch, in many ways IMO, is the best phone out on the market now. I have played around with it in the sprint stores and love it. But I have a few questions...I have read that the Epic touch has NFC technology, is this true? Also are there a lot of nice ROMs for it, i have searched the dev section but really theres no way to tell the quality of ROM by just looking at the pictures and posts. Also do you guys think i should save my upgrade for something thats coming down the line? I have googled searched as much as possible to see if there are any new sprint phones coming down the line and i cant seem to find anything that beats out the epic touch, besides the galaxy nexus which is not even confirmed for sprint yet, and no announcment of a WiMax version so im thinking if sprint even gets it it wont be until they get there LTE network up which will be for a while. Gimme Your thoughts...thanks in advance.
Be patient and wait for the Galaxy Nexus. wait for the news about it, see if they are going to release one for Sprint... if not get the Epic Touch 4g.
No NFC for the epic touch 4g. also, not many roms. development is slow but it will take off with a little more time.
I'd wait for the Galaxy Nexus.

First things first, there's always going to be a newer bigger and better phone coming down the line no matter what phone you buy. Even if you buy a phone on launch day there's always something new in the works. That's technology, its constantly evolving. And don't go chasing fairy tales of a Nexus that isn't even announced to be coming to Sprint. Even if it was it would be an LTE device and that's a long time from now.
As for lack of custom Roms the epic touch hasn't been out all that long so there's only a few custom Roms out. But truthfully there's not much that needs changing or modifying to make this phone awesome. Straight out of the box you won't find much to complain about if anything at all. I was asking myself the same questions and I come to the conclusion that the epic touch is definetely worthy of an upgrade and even worthy of keeping for twenty months. Sprint. LTE. is a ways off so by the time that starts rolling out in a timely fashion, you'll be nearing your next upgrade anyway. Go buy the epic touch and give it a try for a few days. I promise you will not want to return it and go back to your current phone. Trust me on that.
The Galaxy Nexus probably won't come for quite a while so if you're anxious for a new device and don't want to leave Sprint, then the Epic Touch will be great. There are some issues such as loss of signal and no NFC included as stated earlier. I came from the original epic and I upgraded to this one since the next Nexus seemed like it would take a while to get to Sprint.
I was in your situation and decided to go ahead and get the Epic 4G Touch. I haven't had any problems with it at all so far and love the phone. There's lots of development going on for it too if you're into custom ROMs. The Nexus Prime will probably be great, but who knows when we'll see it. Like others have said, there's always going to be something newer on the horizon.
Get it its a beast by th time you think about it. Newer phones will be out just enjoy the now

I made the jump from the Evo to E4GT and I couldn't be happier.
If you keep waiting for the next best thing, you will never get anything. No one even knows for sure if Sprint is getting the GN
anyway.

Hi I own one and though the phone is great, the Samsung support is non existent. Also with Samsung you have to buy new phone to get the upgrade to the OS. I am waiting for HTC to announce their next sprint phone like Vigor. My experience with HTC has been much better...The only way Samsung with unlearn what they learnt from Apple is to let their sales get affected. I am telling this to everyone who goes ooh aah over my phone.
If you are planning to stay with Sprint and not looking to switch carriers, I would say buy it and enjoy it.

I think the phone is great, despite having left mine for ohhh say 30 mins in a steamy bathroom. No water damage signs inside sprint told me (I didnt tell them what happened obviously) but two weeks later after tons of complaining I got a new one and I am happy as a pig in poo. This "smartphone" maybe because it is my first one, but I can't imagine being without it.
When I purchased it was a couple days after I found out that sprint was getting the iphone, and after about two weeks of hard research (it was released in US MID september to the best of my knowledge) so I am looking forward to spending two years with it now. The two weeks (really 10 days because I rigged it up to work and got extra battery that I had sprint credit to my account.
The old phone already had drop marks and stuff, the new one go a TPU treatment right away and steinheil sgp screen protector 24 hours later. This, IMO is the perfect trio. Size of the iphone IMO is better, thats it. The screen on this thing will wow you with pretty much all you look at, it is fast, every iphone person that sees it LOVES it (ICouldGAF after reading jobs bio - ****), precesses fast, battery is nice, feel nice, fit finish nice. I dont want a metal phone, even though when I dropped it a few times, the edges that were worn looked a heck of alot like some sort of metal and it bent like metal in places, I also read it is somewhere (of course cant find link but maybe somewhere on Samsung site proper)
JC
I would get it. I doubt the galaxy nexus is coming to sprint. This is the best phone out for Sprint and will be for a long time.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
I would defintely get it, i came from AT&T's Motorola Atrix(the first one) and it was a great device and still is, had it since launch, but i been wanting a Galaxy S phone. So i decided to go into the sprint store and check out the E4gT, and loved it, the phones that i was tryna decided between were the E4gT and the Evo3d, i didn't want the photon cause i don't really like motorla, and the iphone 4s was too high, plus i really don't like iOS(i love mod'n my devices and u really can't do much with iOS), and the Galaxy Nexus is WAAAAAYYYY OVERRATED, sure it's gonna come with ICS but nobody's gonna keep it stock for long, they'll end up throwing a rom over it, and the devs on the E4gT are active and will keep you happy with enough roms(and updates with them), mods, and themes until ICS comes to the E4gT
But back to the topic at hand, i definitely suggest this phone, buy it, give it a few days before u decide to root it to test it out, stay up to date with the forum and if u decide to root, the instructions are super easy and you'll have plenty of help if u get stuck(eventhough some may give u a hard time) but i'll definitely help u if needed just like i was helped.....now GO FOR IT! lol
Its aight. Once the LOS is fixed (hopefully) it'll be the a great phone to hang on to.
......
when its 100% it is an awesome phone and there isnt one out that Id want more, but because of the bugs me and the wife both slightly wish we waited longer to pick these up or got different phones without the bugs this phone has...
Id say wait for samsung to send out the update to fix the phone, then get it.
I have 3 Sprint phones in my possession right now. This one, the EVO 3D, and the Nexus S 4G. They are all great phones & each has some sort if advantage over the other. The Nexus S, will surely get ICS shortly after the Galaxy Nexus comes out. It is a great little phone. The EVO 3D is a nice phone & with the CM7 alpha on it, it's every bit as fast as the E4GT. HTC has already announced they well be updating it to ICS. The E4GT has a beautiful screen & is fast as hell. It's simple to use, root & also easy to fix if you mess something up from flashing. I would go to the Sprint store & play with these 3 devices & decide for yourself. I don't think Sprint well get the Galaxy Nexus until mid next year. Samsung has not mentioned one that ics is coming to this phone. The others have already said they'll get it.

Sprint has alot more to worry about than making the nexus a priority as their next samsung smartphone offering. They have their hands full with backorders of Epic 4g touches all over. I have been on the phone for a week, try getting one in a rapid fashion when yours malfunctions day 15 - one day after the 14 day trial ends - Jump through hoops. Been a customer since 1997 here....
As far as ICS, I wont hold my breath, what were working with seems well enough, no?

might buy this phone but...

so my upgrade is due in about a month for my og evo and was thinking about this phone because i played with it in a sprint store and really liked it except for the touchwiz part... so just wondering if there are any sense roms on this phone or if its even possible... i know there was one for the nexus s 4g. if not, no big deal because i'll probably be running ics anyway but just curious haha
there are no sense roms for this. and being a longtime user of HTC, I thought I would miss sense as well.
did not. not one bit. I actually prefer TW at this point, far closer to aosp, in most ways, cleaner.
of course there are sense "themes" for alternate launchers you could use, if you really needed it...
and with ICS around the corner, well we'll have CM9, AOKP, MIUI4... plenty of better options than Anything sense based.
and again, frankly, still like running stock ROMs on this phone. after all the crap I heard about how "bad" TW is/was, I expected to change it quick. but TBH I can't understand what they were talking about. clean. responsive, light on resources (compared to sense)... to each his own though, right?
alright thanks haha. its just after 2 years sense has kinda made a place for itself in my heart so idk haha. btw any news on the sgsIII? i heard a few rumors but figured this forum would know more about it like any news on a release date or a definite shape or look of the phone for sprint? don't want to buy a device and have it already be outdated like 2 months later haha

There is usually never a point to wait but this time there is a case to wait. Sprint well be starting to sell lte phones around midyear that will support their new lte network. Being this close to that there is no reason to grab a Wimax phone.

I would wait too if that evo is still good..
This phone is awesome but i would wait for an LTE phone.
I wouldn't wait for LTE, Sprint is having their own issues with the rollout which was expected to be limited coverage anyhow for the first 1-2 years. 4g might be spotty but in a good area its crazy fast and its my understanding that phones wont have both 4g/wimax and lte. This means that unless you are in a lte area your new lte phone will only really have 3g and wifi. Just get the best phone out when your contract is up. I got this phone last month and believe its the best phone out right now.

Agree completely; there is no way there will be much Sprint LTE before the end of this year, and, then, it will only be in their major cities, if at all.
I would jump all over this phone ASAP, since its the best Android phone out there, bar none..and, if you look around, there are some good deals..
I'd save the upgrade and buy a gently used E4GT for $100 more. I realize there are places that offer the E4GT as an upgrade for less than $200, but that isn't an option for sero users like myself. Anyway lol, I've gone from the og Evo, to the 3vo, to the E4GT just a few days ago, and this thing is Big and Beautiful! I highly recommend switching

I came from the OG EVO 4G as well. A world of a difference and I love it! I hadn't been using Sense on my EVO for the last half a year cuz I've been using ADW anyway. There are so many good launchers out there and ICS is awesome in itself, I'm sure you won't miss Sense at all.
This phone is a ton faster than the EVO and the screen is amazing. My EVO would take a few minutes to fully start up, the S2 takes <30 sec. You will love it, I'm sure!

+1 on buying privately instead of upgrading if possible...
In the past 4 months I have bought 3 S2's (one I just bought yesterday), all of them I paid $400 max for. And these phones were brand spanking new, still sealed in the box. If you look for a lightly used one, I'm sure you can get one for around the $300 range.
I had a fortunate situation though cuz my EVO broke on my, so Sprint replaced it with a new one. I sold that one on eBay for $260, so my out of pocket expense wasn't too bad. I love not being under contract, plus it leaves you the option should the Sprint network change and something totally awesome comes out and you wanna be locked in again.
Yo massacre id recommed the et4g i came from evo too lte is having so many issues rolling out on sprint who knows when it will be ready especially now that the fcc either has or is trying to block lightsquared for the gps interference issues which is gonna do some real damage to sprint both finacially and in their ability to obtain the hardware and support they are gonna need, and with wimax continuing to be supported atleast until 2015 if you are currently in a 4g area you will be able to use it til your up for an upgrade again vs you could wait for lte and it wont be available in your area right away or not at all if lte happens as planned right now it looks like anything other than test markets are being delayed for now

I have been hearing that BS about 4G/LTE for 2 years now...when a customer asks me when it's coming I just state that I have no idea, best plce to stay current with all of that is www dot clear dot com and keep checking the coverage map in your area.
Clear doesn't do lte yet, atleast not in my area they are exclusively wimax here in the Tampa bay area

I would wait for LTE too. I do second buying a used one but good luck finding an E4GT for $100, $200 is more likely. If you want Sense wait for a new HTC phone.
Sammys feel cheaper and are scratch magnets. Appearance wise, I think HTCs hold up better. I'm not a TW fan and I'm not Sense fan either. I like it simple and have used Launcherpro with Fancy Widgets for the sense style clock and the 5 day forecast. Been doing that for all my HTC, LG and Samsung phones. Since I'm now on a an ICS rom, I'm trying Nova Launcher.
The E4GT is the best phone I have owned but it is getting old and the new cycle bigger, badder and faster is about to start. Don't lock yourself into last year's phone with a wasted upgrade.

The E4GT is the best phone I have owned but it is getting old and the new cycle bigger, badder and faster is about to start. Don't lock yourself into last year's phone with a wasted upgrade.

[POLL] Getting SIII or no

So I don't know about all of you TW haters, I like it. I cant wait till the new TW on the SGS3 gets ported to MY ET4G
I will def get the SGS3 when it hits sprint. Until then, I'm sure someone will dump the rom before its released and port it over to us.
after evo 4g and gs2.. i am starting to miss a solidly built phone ... and the plastic gs3 is really not doing it for me.. and the tweaks in TW doesn't really do much to me.. as i might just flash a aokp rom anyways... for the speed.. it will probably end up getting a s4 making the cpu argument moot... plus i think s4 is plenty fast enough..
so right now evo 4g lte leads it for me. because build quality seems much better.. at least metal back (u probably gonna get some poly carb anyways.. because of the antenna penetration properties)... but i fear i MAY HAVE TO wait for iphone 5 announcement to see what they are cooking up with (gasp).. i dont' like their sw.. but their hw is still the best
I'll be getting the SGIII
been through two Samsungs and two HTCs. No problems with the Samsungs and even though the HTCs seems more solid neither lasted (both EVOs). I'm glad I had insurance on my daughters EVO

I might get it but the design is so ugly! I love my epic but the phone looks horrible, I'm so disappointed
I don't know for sure. I love the E4GT, best phone I have ever had or seen in person for that matter. With that said the SIII is a pretty ugly phone with new software, worse screen, and a better cpu. If the SIII wouldn't have a pentile display I would get it. I want one of the new Evo's. I've heard the SLCD screen is very nice if not the best screen out there now. I also like how it has removable battery and sd card expansion, but why did they have to make the Evo 4g LTE soooo god damn ugly. The One X is a beautiful piece of work. Ya ya it only has 16 gb and I have like 25 gb of music on my phone currently. If I switched to AT&T ( I dont even use 2gb of data a month b/c I am on wifi alot) it wouldn't be a thing to use google music with there being 4g lte in my area. Also sprint network isn't horrible in my area (avg like 1mbs dl) but 4g lte would be niceeee. I don't know what to do. Whats the point of upgrading to an LTE phone on sprint if its not going to be in my area until 2014ish. I'll have a new phone by then. Oh and also Ive looking into it At&T and VZ are cost the exact same as sprint.
I think I will pass on this phone. I am happy with my E4GT for the most part. Also the GSIII does not look like a upgrade from the E4GT to me.
I most likely will get the GS3. It really just depends on what the US version and what the Sprint version will look like and what kind of development will entail for it. The Pentile display kind of worries me. Just have to wait for the customer reviews for that one. But my next phone will either be the Galaxy S 3 or the Galaxy Nexus. Again it just depends on what the US/Sprint version looks like and what features it has. Touchwiz doesn't bother me. I can always theme the stock build to look more like ICS.
Is the case made from ceramic like rumor had it or is it plastic?
Unless its confirmed that the note is coming to sprint by the time the EvoOne is released, I'll probably just go with the EvoOne.

I don't really want to, but I will get it. I'm sitting on an upgrade already. Then again in August. So maybe the evo or note. Then again in 2013

I voted yes. I will get it, but not immediately. I have other financial obligations before buying a new phone.
This is why Im staying Samsung... a reply about the new devices
HTC is committed to listening to users and delivering customer satisfaction. Since announcing our commitment to unlockable bootloaders, HTC has worked to enable our customers to unlock the bootloader on more than 45 devices over the past six months. In some cases, however, restrictions prevent certain devices from participating in our bootloader unlocking program. Rest assured, HTC is committed to assisting developers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices and we'll continue to unlock additional devices in the future."

Hell no will stick with the epic till the next nexus comes out or lte is out in Miami and I will get a nexus galaxy. Tired of Sammy tw and sense. I do like the one x but sprint is not getting it. Also never bought apple but I feel the iPhone 5 might be amazing.

This is exactly where I am at with my thinking. After all, the GNex is a Samsung and I can always get the S3 down the road. I know Sammys inside and out so if I can get good battery on my NS4G, I am sure I can find a setup that will work for me. I hope I hear more about the Sprint version of the S3 before June 1st though

i dont see why people are complaining about the design of the phone. i think it looks awesome. like many others said i will see what the us/sprint version looks like. then if it meets my expectations i will wait a few months after release so that by the time i get it there is a root and a few custom roms for it out
I'm getting it! I been faithful to Samsung for sometime now. I know how we are treated in the States, but I don't blame Samsung

Keep unlimited data / verizon and get the Gnex now?

Are the new phones going to crush the gnex / performance wise?
I am sitting on a verizon grandfathered unlimited data plan right now.
Verizon is holding off on its new batch of uber phones until it sets up its tiered data plan, that also will void your unlimited data plan.
Will i be crying like a little baby when june rolls around and the new phones come out and possibly destroy the Gnex?
Or will the S3 and other phun phones be only a small step up in real world performance.
The Gnex is only $199 now on verizon and the extended 2100mah battery is 1/2 off at 24$ ..
Thinking of going the nexus route to keep my unlimited data for a few more years.
Thoughts ?
As you can tell by my sig, im sort of a phone whore.
The reason why many people choose the nexus line is because of the stock android experience. It will also have the largest rom and development support until probably the next nexus. It seems like if you realty want to keep unlimited data then you have to get the nexus. After researching thoroughly I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied.

re
With mod use will I be able to make it through a day with the 2200mah battery?
thx for the info.
I personally don't see the newer phones coming at as that much of an upgrade where I would risk losing my unlimited data for.
I get about 24 hours on a charge with over 4 hours of screen time using the 2100mah battery. That's with moderate use and multiple email accounts and the weather widget syncing.
wow
if i could get anywhere near that then i would be very happy.
on my craptacular Droid charge i get about 10 hours with very light usage
Gnex is a nice phone I would grab it and salvage another year or two of unlimited....the new phones will be better....but not by much...especially US versions. On the other hand AOSP on the LTE Gnex is crippled by Verizon and still hasn't even received 4.0.4.....updates are apparently coming through Verizon which to me makes it hardly a "pure Google experience"....so much for the newest version first....sad really...

At least they won't be installing Touchwiz in a future update... *cough* Samsung Tab *cough* <---- Yes I know it's a Nexus, so that wouldn't happen

Yeah I know..... Sad...... One less rom option. Well I guess if one look can hold you over.... you can choose between a Gnex and a iPhone...... Tough call.

Hold off until the last minute. If something else cones around before the cut off date, whenever that will be announced, get it. If nothing new or better is available buy the gnex. After the data cap plan goes into effect you can still keep unlimited by not paying for phones on a new contract. Just buy them outright.... which will be expensive.

How is it crippled on AOSP? I had IMM76D on it within hours of release. Same with IMM76I. I am guessing that you are referring to the missing proprietaries. Not really a crippling blow, more like a minor inconvenience.
Also, updates don't come from Verizon. Verizon just approves when Google can OTA them.

At this point Verizon is selling Gnexs with 4.0.2.....bugs lag and all. CDMA Nexus is a joke.....not Googles fault but just the same....a fault. I don't see how sitting around waiting for a carrier to approve a update is any different than any other cellphone period. Nexus is supposed to be latest greatest....Verizon has made the Nexus like every other phone....to me that warrants choices. Every phone will be running AOKP so sitting around waiting seems a bit crippling when the ONLY thing you are getting from a Nexus at this point is AOSP.
The advantages the Gnex had on other devices are slowly dwindling away.....I still think it's a nice phone that's why I told him to get it. Maybe you feel its a inconvenience.....I feel its business as usual..... not a "pure Google experience" lol.

True, regarding OTAs, but it is hardly AOSP crippled (so far). As long as US carriers like Sprint, ATT, and Verizon are in control, this is likely not going to change.
There are a lot of issues with OTAs on the Galaxy Nexus. Heck, there are some yakjuxx variants still on 4.0.1. I know I personally didn't buy it for quick stock updates. I have always felt that Android does not fit Verizon's business model. I felt that years ago, and I still think that is the case today.
Unless the GS3 is a winner to you... then no nothing else coming out on VZW will be better than the Galaxy Nexus.. unless you like the Galaxy Note aka "Journey" or the Razr HD that is rumor to be coming out..
But the Nexus will always be better later on this year when "Key Lime Pie" or w/e Google decides to name its next OS Version because those GS3'S and Razr's are going to take ages to get upgraded to 4.2 or 5.0 just like most phones now who is still on ICS.. Leaks will always leak out..
You can keep your unlimited data plan even when VZW change their plans.. you just going to need to buy your next phone full price.. no discounts no upgrades..
anything that will make you sign a new 2 year contract will take you out of the grandfather plan
I just did exactly what the OP is asking. I had the GNEX on release day but had massive signal issues. I went back to my Bionic and waited. Then I tried the gnex again, same issues. I went and got the Razor maxx, great battery life mediocore phone. I just jumped on the GNEX again and third times a charm. I love it. Im running Franco MS3 and AOKP and I get through the day and night no problem.

Droid Razr makes me want to cut my wrist. Gnex is FAR superior to that gimmick. Good choice man....don't turn back to the darkside.

Yah, darkside is right.... I left out that I had the iPhone 4 and 4s a few times also.....

[Q] Sprint GNex Still Worth Picking up on the Cheap?

I just cracked the screen on my E4GT today and can't stand looking at the cracks. It's driving me nuts!!! Sprint has cut me off from using Assurion as I have wore out my "replacement" welcome. I'm not a huge fan of the GS3, and after spending a little while with my friend's, I really didnt see that big of a performance boost over my S2. The Note 2 is too freaking big. I really dont want to spend $200 on an Optimus G or the Sprint One X, and I hate IOS.
It doesn't look like we are going to see a CDMA Nexus 4 anytime soon. There are some pretty stellar deals out there for the GNex, but I'm not sure if I wan't to waste an upgrade on a phone with year old tech. I hear that with project butter on Jellybean, the phone still performs almost as well as some of the newer devices on the market. So, I guess what I'm asking is this......Would anyone out there recommend the Gnex this late in the game? Or should I suck it up, spend the extra cash I don't necessarily have to spend and get one of the newer phones on Sprint?
It would be cool to have 2 Nexus 7s and a Gnex all running stock google in the house too!!! LOL
Also, is it extremely difficult to change out a screen on the E4GT? I was supposed to give my son my phone once I finally upgraded and might be able to save a few bucks that way.
Just upgraded my Mom to a gnex. On upgrade price. Can't beat stock android. Its a nice phone and never ceases to surprise me. Also have two N7's mine and my bros. I can't tell a difference between the two in terms of performance. Games... maybe... but for the most part they are equally smooth. I would say get one off contract, I don't think you'll regret it. And when you get it. Check out my port of rasbean.

I had to pick between the s3 and nexus and I went ahead whit the s3 not a single regret it has good camera really good battery life whit stock battery and everything works the way it should..
However I never go out whitout a case I dropped it once from 1 foot drop and got black spots when viewing very dark background in dark rooms :/ it breaks really easy..

It's still a very good phone, and it'll get 4.2 and run it well. Also, the CM10 and other ROMs are very mature. I'm sure you'd be happy with the Gnex, though after 6 months you may regret it when there are new phones from Samsung and HTC that will be better even than the One X and the GS3.
You could pick one up for pretty cheap on eBay and save the upgrade for something else later on?
