Questions before Buying Tab S4 835 - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Questions & Answers

Hi
After my note 12.2 crashed in 2015 and I had to stop using it (save the newborn and first Christmas pics so I can image it when I get time) I have been without a tablet. I am desperate for one and the s6 has no headphone jack.
I'm trying to buy a tab s4 on ebay. The LTE 6gb 256 unlocked Korean version. I want to make sure that I get the right one that has no bloat Korean software.
Someone said that you need to get the non - cell provider version here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s4/help/lte-verizon-version-providers-t3826965/page2
I have searched here to the best of my ability, but I can't find out how to tell them apart.
I would like to know the following if anyone can help I would be grateful.
1. How do I tell the non carrier version of the Korean 6bg unlocked LTE S4 835 from the carrier versions? I just want to make sure that I get the correct tablet on ebay.
2. Is the bootloader unlocked on the Korean version? I thought I read that but can't find it now.
3. Is it rootable? I just want LMT and adblock
I think this is the guide I would use, correct?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-0-sm-t83x-t3928278/post79483624#post79483624
4. Is there anything else you would think I need to know about before buying this?
Thank you very much for your help. I'm grateful. I've just been without a tablet for a long time and don't want to screw up this purchase. I LOVED my 12.2 and I really screwed up buying my note 9 from Verizon. I should have gotten the international version. I despise that Facebook is an undeleteable system app on the note 9. I just want to get one of the last decent android tablets and it seems like the tab s4 from Korea is it.
Sincerely
MH

Additional note
Hi
I just wanted to add that the main use for me will be
Reading pdfs and ebooks in fbreader - main desired use even though I will spend more time overall surfing and email and Twitter, etc... I really need a way to read things quickly that just works AND that can do the other things that I don't want a laptop or desktop for.
Surfing Twitter insta
Calendar
Email
Carrying around at work for light use at meetings
I have a thinkpad X1 yoga for laptop and meeting note typing use. I like it but it's cumbersome and not as intuitive as my 12.2 used to be for twitter and reading books so I really need a replacement for my 12.2
Again a really big thank you for any help you can offer me.

[Q] Need some help

I am not sure if this is the appropriate section to post this.
I am deciding between buying Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Note 2.
I dont have a smart phone, but i need one badly. Most of my work is university related, emails, pdf , notes, ebooks. I dont have a laptop nor tablet. But I do have a power house desktop lol.
I am with mobilicity, so I prefer penta band phones or at least quadband phones for UMTS frequencies.
I really like Galaxy note 2, but the software support makes me think otherwise and also the size of it. I can grip the Gnote 2 in one palm of my hand, so that isnt much of a issue i guess.
Galaxy Nexus has the great software support from google directly! But this phone is really out dated and i have to pay $372 with tax to get it brand new. I am not much of a used phone guy anymore, too many bad experiences.
Any suggestion would be appreciated, thanks!
Outdated?
Go for the Note 2 then, you already decided.
Since you are using it for work related stuff, you don't need the latest android imo, the bigger screen on the Note will help in reading all that documents too..

well isn't it outdated? I am looking at it from the perspective that its 1 year old or more though. I won't be constantly doing work, but you know here and there sort of work.
Problem would be carrying it around though.
Thanks for your input though
My Thoughts
I use the Galaxy nexus for work constantly! I am an IT manager and need the email and document functionality as well. I haven't had an issue with this! Everything has worked great for the past year. I like the nexus also because I play with the developing and flashing piece of it.
The nexus is still a great phone! I will be using it happily for the next year! The developer community alone is worth it to me.
with that said, If I was mostly looking at email, documents, and notes I would go with the Note II. The reason for that is the screen size. I also like the idea of having a stylus for writing and notes. I find it hard to take notes with a third party stylus on the nexus, so I would choose the dedicated stylus that Samsung has created. I have tested it and find it very useful and practical for note taking. The hardware is also quite nice on the note II.
That's my 2 cents...

[Q] Based on your Impressions would you get Note 10.1 (2014) or Tab Pro 8.4?

Was in the wrong section originally
-----------------------------------------------
Hi Everyone, Not sure if I;m posting in the right section or not but I'm planning on buying a tablet and am split between Note 10.1(2014), Tab Pro 8.4 and the Sony Xperia Z2 tab...
I'm starting to lean towards the samsung tablets but not sure which to get due to it's price and functionality. I'm near the end of my University journey and still need (or want?) to use this tablet to take notes and for entertainment purposes. Do you have any suggestions as to which one I should get and why? The S pen seems pretty useful to me but its a huge jump from 419 to a 599 price tag for me =/ and I've only been hearing good things from all of you about the 8.4 and it's only making my decision even harder to make!
I look forward to your suggestions. Please reply and thanks in advance!
the answer 100% comes down to whether or not you're gonna need that stylus. If you're not sure, it means you won't. Get the Tab Pro.

I feel I might though because I want to take notes and stuff? Do you know a good application where I can replace the core functions and are good for taking notes with a pen?

ADDED: Also if I'm going for the 8.4 should I wait for the announcement of the tab S to see what that offers first and hope for a price drop?

Galaxy S 10.5 Phone Calls

Hi
I am about to take the plunge and get my next upgrade fix moving from Note 8.0 to the Galaxy S 10.5.
Seeing as there is not even a sniff of an updated version of Note 8 I have no alternative but to get this bad boy!!!!
Its costing me an arm and a leg to pay for a tablet from O2 plus pay for a Phone contract in order to put said Phone sim into said tablet
My question is...has anyone used one of these as a Phone, becaue I know Sony do something a bit whaky with there large Tablets and disable that feature...
Any help is much appreciated
Cheers
Lee
My tab s 10.5 is basically my everything, my phone, my music, my movies, my book. I carry it around with me everywhere I go but In safe premises or zones only. Just keep in mind that it's weird to use a 10.5 inch device to talk to someone while in public as you're gonna need to use the microphone located at the bottom to speak if you don't have a Bluetooth headset or earphones on, it could be a drag but if it doesn't bother you then why not? It doesn't bother me as I don't have a cellphone anyway.

[Q] About to upgrade Note 8; seeking advice / opinions from owners please :)

Hey everyone, I'm right on the verge of upgrading my current Galaxy Note 8 (SGH P5110 - wifi variant) to this device (the T-mobile lte variant), so I've been frantically searching this forum to make sure it was a reasonable upgrade and what the deal with the Tmo variant was, so I just wanted to clarify a few things I've learned so far, and just ask for opinions from xda members who own this device.
This "opportunity" came about rather unexpectedly, but in addition to the hardware upgrade, purchasing this tablet would have several additional significant benefits, to the point where cost is barely an issue (it will end up costing me next to nothing, if I don't actually make a little money on the deal). It's for this reason that if I were to go for an upgrade right now, it would have to be this device and it would have to be from T-mobile. The whole situation is kind of complex and super ridiculous, and even my hardest attempt to explain it briefly was getting out of hand... I'll edit this post and add it on tomorrow probably and those who don't care can easily skip it (probably a recommendation that also applies to "satisfied" AT&T customers, but then again, it's one of those "Yeah, I know. They actually pull that sort of thing regularly," so perhaps a PSA )
Anyway, to be honest, this tablet wouldn't really be on the "consideration" list if I was just looking for a new tablet... I'd at least wait to find out about the Nexus 9 if that were the case. However, upgrading my phone at some point is a much higher priority vs. tablet, despite the fact that it is pretty near to the "time" for one... I've been happy with the Note 8, and fortunately there were some very talented developers who worked on it, but not unlike your tablet, it was never really promoted by T-Mobile and never had a huge user-base. So this is pretty much my opportunity for a tablet upgrade, where I not to do it, I really can't say when I'd be able to retire the Note 8 (similar to internals of S3 despite being released around the time of the S4), however, the Note 10 does seem like it would be an extremely solid upgrade from the Note 8 so I just want to ask a few questions just to make sure I wouldn't really regret it on any level.
Ok, so the tablet sold by T-Mobile has the model number P607t, but it's really just a carrier branded P605 and compatible with the same ROMS as that device? If that's not the case / just to make sure: you can relatively easily gain full root (i.e. custom ROM, kernel, recovery)? Last, are there problems / issues / differences (aside from chipset) that make it inferior to the P605 or P600?
That's really all I just want to be sure of before pulling the trigger. Basic stuff, I know, but this was totally unexpected and don't have the luxury of time to do as much research as I'd like prior to deciding, so if anyone would be kind enough to address my impressions above, I'd be beyond grateful :good: Also any thoughts on the device sold by Tmo, or the upgrade from the P5110 to what looks to be a very nice device (despite how quickly Samsung stole the "super premium" label off of it) would be most welcome as well.
Hopefully I'm not mistaken regarding the info I've gleaned, and will soon have a new toy in hand. If that works out, I'll undoubtedly be spending much more time on this corner of XDA. Thanks much in advance
Any 10 inch tablet is better than a 8 inch screen...Go with the 2014 Note.....best tab out for the money...

Wait, the T-Mobile version works with towelroot without tripping KNOX?
I'm watching this thread because I am 95% in the same situation.
You will love the tablet thats a gaurantee however don't expect Android L or whatever the next updates is going to be anytime soon.
But yeah no tablet like it at the minute ... I use my tablet every single day for atleast 3hours a day. I actually gave away my laptop to my brother as the tablet is faster and more convenient in every way (bar typing lol). Anyhoo hope yous make the right choice...but like I said be prepared tonwait for updates haha.

Not a bad situation to be in Thanks for the confirmation / encouragement. I'd definitely agree that 10.5 inchers are preferable, particularly for a Note 3 owner, unless the 8" in question is easily root/ROMable and 10.1, despite being a very significant upgrade across the board (will go from looking at an 8" 1600X1200(!) screen to this absolute beauty) it's ridiculously locked down, bootloader etc, and basically you need to run it straight stock, unable to even remove worthless pre-installed malware.... Were that the case, despite the fact that financially, etc. it really doesn't make sense to not do it, I'd still rather stick with my customized Note 8. The unbreakable rule is: if I'm prevented from viewing every file on a device that I own (i.e. root directory obviously), well, that would never happen because no matter how tempting otherwise, I wouldn't under any circumstances get that device. I think that framing the issue of locked bootloader, etc. and forcing users to jump through hoops to attain that level of access is a good way to clarify just how flat-out silly the issue is at its core when explaining to, ya know, people (i.e. those weirdos that don't even have one Linux partiton ) why that's an issue that they 'should care' about.
So... bit of a tirade on a tangent there but that's at the front of my mind when purchasing hardware, so glad to hear that there won't be any unpleasant surprises when picking up a new device. So really appreciate the encouragement to go ahead with it as well as confirmation of my expectation that it'll be a fantastic upgrade!
Very excited to get my new tablet... maybe today! Going to start downloading files to flash in prep I've been scouring the internet for an ideal case (something slim but protective with an open from, ideally a tempered glass screen cover built in) but have noticed that options are relatively slim... Was considering just going with an Otterbox Defender, but I really don't want to add that width much with to the beautifully slim bezel. No bout I'll find something I like though. Looking forward to learning about and discussing my new hardware with you all!

Right on! I can deal with the update situation, as long as at least a couple solid, actively developed custom ROMS to improve the (shudder) stock experience. I stick with TW base on Note's typically, so my next stop is the devdb to give it a more thorough review. That is definitely a good point re: official updates (i.e. lack thereof) but the device I'm coming from is a Note 8... my "official update" expectations really couldn't be lower :victory:

Ah yeah you have Note 8 lol so really you have been set to the perfect standard to buy the Note 10.1 in terms of updates haha.
I couldn't find much info whether there is no KNOX tripping root for the P607. That's the only thing holding me back.
I had the Wi-Fi version and I really, really like it. Unfortunately, I had returned it because there was no root that won't trip Knox and I need root to disable the bloatware that is killing the battery and slowing down the tablet. There are a few thread I posted where I show screenshot of the battery life when the tablet is idle.
But you may not care about root, so go forth and get this tablet![emoji12]

Are Tablets a Waste of Money?

Hey guys I work for Bell here in Canada and have an opportunity to get a Samsung Galaxy tab s 10.5 for $50 upfront and 22.50 a month thereafter for two years on a term with the company.
I am unsure if I will use it, I have a HTC One m7 and love it, I have custom Roms constantly running on it and have on all my android devices.
I would love to watch movies and shows on the beautiful screen this tab is known for but also have chromecast so I have similar functionality at home already.
I am a university student and have an aging laptop which I do not like to carry around. Do you think a table could be good for school?
Also, 8 or 10.5 size? The 8.5 would be 10 upfront and the same monthly price thereafter.
Thank you for your time xda!!
Well I use mine for school also. It lasts 8 hours screen on time, but should last you the whole day if you use it for mixed usage(taking notes and other stuff). Its very thin and light to carry around. But this tablet is very fragile and can break when dropped. I have the 10.5. Its good if you want a screen as big as the laptop. But the 8.4 should do. There is slight lag on the homescreen but can be fixed but installing a different launcher.
Don't think tablets are a waste of money, but it depends on what you want to do with it. I actually have a few and just picked up the 10.5. My intent on the 10.5 was to use for work. It has worked out well as I picked up the matching keyboard with it. I am able to VPN into work and use it when remote, thus no need to fire up my laptop. I also have a Virtual Desktop environment at work, so with the 10.5 I can also connect to that once I am VPN'd in. Works great. Also works well for just browsing internet and note taking offline as well. To me well worth it.
However, the price you are mentioning seems to be a big high. Basically you are paying $590 for the 10.5. I would think you should be able to get it much cheaper than that if you pick it up directly. Check your local retailers for sales, particularly with the holiday season on us now.

Well as for a waist of money it depends. If you like to lay in bed at night and do some reading watch a show play a game or two, then this is the most comfortable way to do it. Also If you want to be able to look stuff up on the fly while watching TV or hanging out with the family, this is also a great tool. Breaking out a laptop or going to the computer every time you want to do this isn't always the best idea. If you don't feel you will use it for things like this or traveling then might not be a good idea.
I know its easy to say I'll just use my phone. However sometimes its just not nice to use a smaller screen to get things done.
As for worth buying the way your are considering it...
The 10.5" would cost you a total of $590 this way when you can easily find it on amazon or Google shop for $435 - $450. I know not much savings but if you can afford it I would go that route.
The 8.5" would cost a total of $550. That's only $40 less for a much smaller screen. If you want something between a phone and a full size tab then this is a good option. Again online they are much cheaper. I didn't do much research on this as I was only interested in the 10.5.
If the only way you could afford this is to finance it and are going to take the leap go with the 10.5 more bang for you buck in the end.
Just my humble opinion. I'm sure more people will have more incite for you good luck. Love my 10.5 BTW.

Great choice! Did you get the bronze or the white one? People think I buy expensive electronics because the bronze looks like gold to them lol. Luckly, it already has apps that can be used for typing and writing reports. Hancom office is the name i think.
The bronze, and oh man it looks incredible with the keyboard
