Ok guys, it looks like I be joining you guys tomorrow when I receive my Dinc2. I got a free upgrade due to having so many issues with the x. I hope there are good roms for this phone. I used to have a droid eris in which I missed that phone. If you guys could please give me some info how to root the dinc2 and install CWR on the phone. I would like to get back to cm7. Rooting this phone looks more complicated than the Droidx. With the x I can repair it by useing rsd lite, that's if I bricked it. Please guys me all the info you can on this phone. Thxs.
Rooting is actually pretty simple, if you can root right now. The latest update killed the revolutionary root tool, but you may not get a phone that's fully updated. And cm7 runs very well on the dinc2.

If you are receiving a new Droid Incredible 2 your hboot will be version .98, meaning you cannot yet root your phone. Some users got lucky and were able to root before this was updated. You will have to wait and hope there is a root for this hboot version. If you are able to root it, I strongly suggest using CyanogenMod. It is flawless on my Incredible 2, and I am using the nightly builds.
I too had the Droid X and went through 5 replacements before verizon finally gave me a DINC2. I have to Say, Motorola puts out pure SH*T. I dont know why people still buy their products.. anyway, since getting my DINC2, I have had nothing but smooth sailing... love it.
I am using the MIUI Rom which I love so far. I tried CM7 but I did not like the menu aesthetically. MIUI is much more theme-able for me and I am enjoying it much better than CM7.
do you have the compass issue?

Hello people, I hope you are all well.
So I have bought myself a Galaxy Nexus and will be selling my Galaxy SII. I decided to get the GNex, because I wanted as close to a Google phone as possible (along with the purchase of my Nexus 7).
Now, for the longest time, regardless of which Android phone / tablet I've had I normally end up loading a custom rom, which invariably ends up being CyanogenMod.
Now what to do, should I go custom again or should I try stock this time (for my N7 I've stuck with stock for the time being)?
Or should I use stock and see how the custom roms develop?
I guess more than anything I'm just thinking out aloud.
I got the gnex because of the vast amount of roms but I guess my phone does not like custom roms and prefers stock ics I have left it stock plus the leak of vz jb for their gnex prompted this too. If vz gnex has a leak means they are working on it and the sprint version should be out soon

play around with custom roms when you are bored but I wouldn't flash my daily driver cause no time to keep up with it.
Note: it's highly addicting

try custom roms..u wudnt wanna get back to stock
The stock Jelly Bean is wonderful....Old versions of Android missed many things which forced us to have custom ROMs. But with JB, switch to custom only if you really need some tweaks.
The only thing you will need to do is rooting.
I rooted the phone, installed a couple of custom roms, but came back to stock. Custom roms offer a wonderful world of customizations, but for the Nexus, its still evolving and it comes with some bugs or minor problems. You may end up switching roms...
As for me, the stock is smooth and stable. And since I have root, I can always do a selective mod if needed!
You have stock JB on your N7 so why not play around a little?! :good:

Everything can be backed up. So there's no reason to ever have to manually restore stuff.
Anyway, no question try custom ROMs, then make the decision if you prefer stock or not. But without a doubt you have to try custom ROMs to determine if you like them or not.
Thanks for the input guys. Yep, already rooted, so that's all good.
I actually used Titanium backup to backup all my apps form my SG2 and shift them over to the GNex. I also restored the user data (yes, I know you should not do that, but, touchwood, everything got transferred OK).
I guess I'll play around with stock first, just to get used to it, and then after a week or so, may give some custom roms a try.
Please help with going back to stock using a Mac
Hello, I have looked at all the guides and googled everything possible regarding returning my recently purchased Sprint GNEX back to stock so I can get the ota Jelly Bean from Sprint whenever they decide to roll it down.
I have found all kinds of vids and tutorials regarding using a pc to do this, even one post/guide that said just follow this pc guide and do this for a mac but it only confused the "H" out of me lol.
I am currently using the Codename Android JB rom but I was guided with a perfect video and guide to even do this. I am a noob or whatever they call us.
Could someone, if there is someone who knows help me find a way to go back to 4.04 on Sprint using a MAC. Please do not direct me to the guides I have seen on here for mac because they are either not for my Sprint version or are only instructions for PC. The person who did help me get Codename Android does have a youtube vid for unrooting but I tried it and it does not work for me.
There is not a whole lot around here for mac which I totally understand do this being geared to a more open system than Apple.
Thanks for any advice. I would like to get this done even if the update takes even longer to come down. I just want to be back to where I was when I bought the Sprint GNEX so I can get regular ota updates. I do not think messing with flashing is for me and on the plus side for you guys, it'll be one less dope you have to deal with.
If you are already familiar with cyanogenmod, then how could you ever settle for stock? Although CM10 is still in it's infant stages, it is coming along rather nicely. The only selling point of stock ROMs over custom ones is their reliability and even stock Android has been known to have bugs. Be honest with yourself, if you have the know how to install a custom ROM, you will never be happy unless you are flashing nightlies. You're an addict just like the rest of us, face it!

For the record, I absolutely don't have the know how to install these things or root unlock etc etc. The only reason I was able to do it was due to a vid for very amateur persons. I am just a 44 yr old lady and just want to not be messing around with my phone. In fact I do not know if I even properly rooted or installed because as I said when I went to the vid from the great guy who helped me install codename, he also had a vid to unroot for mac with a sprint phone. it was such easy steps and my phone would not do it I got errors saying radio failed blah blah blah. Also don't know if I am even rooted or not but I am still on the codename rom and not back to 4.04. Is Cyangenmod what I am running? See what I mean? My issues is I am one who should not be messing around with my phone. And especially when everytime a new rom or update comes along, I have to have someone practically baby step me through it.
As for this codename android it is great. Am I rooted if I have it? See again, I literally know nothing about developing flashing rooting etc. It is just too much for my non technical brain, and as I said I really did not install this on my own and cannot even get back to stock on my own and to top it off I have only a macbook pro.
Now please do not be upset with me because I think the droid open platform is awesome compared to Apple's closed forum but being someone whom, as I said should not be messing with my phone in the 1st play since I do not understand nor do I know wth I am doing when I read instructions, I really miss my old iphone 4 8gb since I couldn't do nothing special with it.
Also I honeslty do not do too much on my phone but am the materialistic type who wants to have the latest or greatest software on whatever device. I hope you understand what I am trying to say cause I don't!
So does anyone know how to do this then?

I still did not have my original question answered. Does anyone here no how to get me back to 4.04 with my Sprint GNEX using a Mac and is willing to help/guide me through? Please? Thank you. I was surprised nobody replied back last night after my reply to Mike. Also I was directed by another forum that someone on this site would definitely be able to help and know how to go back to stock using a mac. I think I gave pretty good reasons why personally, I should not be messing with my phone.

you are kidding right? This is a joke on me. I have no idea how to build a thing. If noone wants to actually help just say so. I also saw nothing about mac except in the top 1st link which I already tried and got radio failed error and my phone booted right back into 4.1.1 codename android.
i dont use a mac. i was trying to help anyway. next time, dont do anything to your device. the first link i gave you was for you to understand OUR technical language and terms, so that you can SEARCH for the info you need, and you can help us help you. you just want stock right? "gnex sprint back to stock" on google gave me " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25190768&postcount=1"? have you tried that?
if you cant flash a recovery like cwm or twrp with fastboot.. then you need to search on how to do it.
still one more way to it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1620036
seems to me you just needed to understand OUR (yourself included) technical terms; this is xda-devs, not xda-help-noobs.

I am painfully new to the community, so if you're frustrated easily this might be a bad thread to read.
Not too long ago, I picked up a desire (bravo) on kijiji (a buy/sell site, not really important). It had a much lower price than other comparable phones, and I would imagine it was because it is locked to Rogers and came with CM7 on it. At the time, I still had time on my old contract. Thinking I was up for the challenge of new technology i went for it. Being the curious guy I am I tinkered with it and found an abundance of Roms floating around on the internet, so wanting to know what was going on with this (understand that I knew nothing about the matter), I flashed AOKP 6. Honestly it is a very clean Rom, and up untill this morning I thought it was great. My contract ran out yesterday, so I activated my desire last night. It will not connect to the Rogers network. It is locked to Rogers and has a Rogers sim, so I'm not sure why it's doing this . I believe it did before I flashed AOKP6.
Any suggestions on how to get it to connect?
I need someone to hold my hand through the process of either flashing a new stable rom or fixing my current one.
Any help appreciated.
-Salt
Ps. If my spelling is off, it's because Chrome broke.
Since you already installed AOKP6 before, I assume you're rooted and have a recovery installed.
Download a stable GB ROM like this and put it on your SD card and flash it from your Recovery. Thats it.
Read the OP of the ROM carefully to see if you meet all the criteria mentioned. Dont forget to do a clean wipe before the install.
Thanks for the reply. I went back to cm7 and tried a few others and came to the conclusion it was Rogers' fault. Now running Paranoid android jelly bean and everything is going well.

Hello and thanks for reading yet another "noobaholic anonymous" post. I spent most of last night searching, and could not find what I was looking for... and the things that seemed relevant, were 2 years old. That's a century in this hobby. Sooooo....
Here's my dilemma. A year and several months ago, I rooted and ROM'd my Droid X with CM7. It was a cakewalk! But, I REALLY lusted for a HTC Inc2. So I switched to the Inc2 a year ago. Like you, I've been waiting for the ICS update, which isnt coming. So I've decided to go ahead and hot rod this sucker. I am on Page Plus, so warranty means nothing to me.
I've seen plenty of posts to downgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.3.3, I can handle that I think. And from what I've read of the various ROM's, it looks like Skyraider Zeus is the one for me. I want to keep the Sense stuff (clock, weather, calendar, notifications, phone launcher etc) but everything else is fair game.
So once I do the 2.3.3 thing and root my Inc2, where do I get the latest ROM and how do I get it on my phone? Also, I would like to try the GingerBangSense ROM and maybe CM7.2 as they get good reviews - is there some way to switch between them? Or do I have to go all the way to root and start over from scratch?
Forgive my asking the "same old stupid questions", I realize they've been asked before a million times. But as I said, the Inc2 is getting quite long in the tooth and there are a ZILLION threads on it. What scared me enough to stick my neck out and ask all these questions in this thread - is I cant find a concise thread in the latter part of 2012 or 2013. I didnt want to screw something up or miss out on something that's happened since early 2011 or whenever the majority of the threads were birthed.
So thank you again, for taking time to help someone trying to regain his sanity.

Once you downgrade to 2.3.3, and obtain clockwork, you can flash as much as you want. Skyraider can be found on the bamf forum.

Download the ROM you want to flash and place it on your SD card
Wipe data/cache/dalvic. I haven't used clockwork in a while so I don't remember what its called. 4ext let's you wipe everything but the SD card.
After the wipe, install ROM VIA CLOCKWORK. Then reboot.
Most ROM threads include instructions on flashing said ROMS.
Good luck.

Here is a good thread for multiple ways on rooting. Because the Inc2 got software updates rooting became problematic for some for a while. Figure out what version you are first before rooting.

Once done, download a ROM onto your sd card, reboot into recovery and do the following:
- Make a Nandroid (backup)
- Wipe data
- Wipe dalvik/cache
(I format system next)
- install file from sd card
- reboot and profit!
Thank you all, I am now the proud owner of a fully rooted and rom'd Dinc2. If I could, I would hand out candy or liquor, depending on your age
At the moment, I'm running Skyraider Zeus 1.3. Of course the ROM'ing bug has bitten, so IC Tazz is downloading at the moment and I'm thinking GingerBliss may be next. I'm torn though, I like the Sense GUI but would of course like the latest updated stuff... most of the ICS based or any of the CM stuff seems to have stripped out the Sense and it all looks like my old (and ugly..) Droid X. Any recommendations or are the 3 ROM's I've mentioned so far about it?
I have one more question for you elder statesmen - I have Clockwork Recovery on the phone right now. I see a couple others listed as TWRP or EXT4, are they any better or necessary for any other ROMs? Or will Clockwork do everything I need done and best to stick with it?

Viperinc is the sexiest ROM, but has lag issues. Pacman is pretty stable.
4ext is way better than cwm and you can get the recovery control app which makes managing backups, wipes a breeze.

I tried SRZ, it wasn't bad but I wanted to try ICS, so I loaded IC Tazz. I like 90% of it but GEEZ is that Sense 4.0 clock terrible looking! I realize you can load Fancy Widgets and get the Sense 2.x clock / weather look, but it does not trigger the Sense weather like the HTC clock does. SOooooo..... if there is some way of getting my good ol' HTC clock/weather (2.x) in IC Tazz, I'd be happy.
Oh - the OTHER iritation - on the lock screen, the clock is such a terrible skinny font! I dont know about you guys, but I use my phone as a time piece all through the day. So I wil whip it out and glance at the clock. I'm getting older (too old..) and really miss the 2.x clock skin/font/etc.
Other than that, WOW, what a nice update.
Now about the 4ext vs CWM - I read as many posts as I felt were relevant, and TWRP sounded like the best choice. So I downloaded Goomanager from the Play store, and used it to install TWRP (according to the instructions on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943592 ) It did it's thing, but there's no icon for TWRP on the phone now. Part of the perk was this was touch driven and no more volume/power button launching... so now what? I'm downloading Viper right now, so I'd like to slap it on the Dinc2 and check it out before I make my final choice and reactivate this phone. (I've got it offline till I get it "right")

You will still have to get into TWRP with the power menu but once you are in there you can navigate without using the volume and power buttons to back up and install things.

In the last 24 hours I went from bonestock 2.3.4, to 2.3.3 to S-OFF to full root, to SRZ to IC Tazz, with CWM. Then TWRP went on and ViperINC went on... THEN I really lost my mind and put the 320 radio on it. Noob to Addict in 24 hours.
See what you guys created? You gotta be careful giving out all this information!
While I have your attention, and being I dont have enough posts to comment in the 'dev' area, if I should go back to SRZ or ICT, am I going to have to flash the radio? I looked ALL over and can not find a single working radio link. For what it's worth - I saw no gain from the 622 (GB) radio to the 320 (ICS) db wise.

You shouldn't need to change radios.

On the ViperINC thread (the ROM), they had the radio listed right below it. Being the radio in my phone was several generations old (622) and my reception SUCKS, and (and and and..) I never flashed a radio before and I was feeling confident with my new found toys.... I went ahead and flashed it.
I reactivated the phone today, and can say the reception is not any better in the areas I usually use it. I guess it's just the flaw of the Dinc2.

I meant you shouldn't have to change it back. Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks for the clear up. What about the 320 radio being ICS based? SRZ is GB based, for example... last thing I want to do is brick my phone. Today I found a possible crippling flaw in the Venom ROM - the voice doesnt work on Google Maps. I use that app a lot, so I may have to revert to GB for now.

The radio works fine on all versions of android.
Sent from my Nitsy CM7.
Is the "radio" only for the phone (calls) or does it also do the GPS? Since I loaded ViperINC, my GPS does not work.

try the patch, the thread for it is in the dev section, fishing the radio should not have affected it, and radios have nothing to do with the version of android, its seperate, a firmware...
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I'm not a causal flasher/rooter, but I'm also not a dope. I've flashed my G1, N1, Nexus S, and yes, I've even unlocked and flashed Jellybean on my GNex before it was sent out OTA.
Recently I've run into the same problem a lot of GNex users have, my OTA update to 4.2.2 is failing at about 20% install.
I've determined that my radio is old, and followed all instructions online to flash it using the Gnex toolkit.
For some odd reason, I can't get to the bottom of why my phone no longer connects to the PC when trying to flash.
If possible, I'd like to work something out with one of the experts here to stay on the phone with me step by step and help
me figure out what I'm missing. Would gladly pay a successful fix a reasonable amount via paypal.
Would $25 be a reasonable offer?
I could afford to buy a N4 and just forgeet all the problems with the GNex, but I don't feel it would be a great upgrade considering all the accessories I've bought for the GNex, and I'm still not sold on the lack of removable battery and the glass casing.
Noob Response

This might sound like a noob answer, but does the USB cable work properly for data transfer operations?
Coz my GNex is 7 month old and the USB cable that came with it is faulty.
Also the drivers for the GNex are the ones provided by Samsung.
(But considering your experience, you might have already done all the above. :fingers-crossed

I appreciate the response. I followed online instructions to the letter and I've got nothing happening.
This is why I was hoping to find someone to walk me through it from step one. I missed something somewhere.
Yeah, I've used multiple USB cords.

You sure you are saying the correct version? 4.2.2 was only spotted on a couple of devices so far and not due until at least mid-late February.... Unless you're very very very lucky....?

I would be willing to help...for free...email me at [email protected] and as for buying the N4 i wouldnt suggest that being it only has 13GB usable storage no LTE connectivity and its already a few months old....your best bet is to stick with GNex like me and wait for Galaxy S4 in march or the Moto/Google X Phone in May-June
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895, perhaps part A could be of help. I do not need drivers, but from this, I see that they need to be installed twice, and i've also heard that sometimes they need to be uninstalled and reinstalled, a finicky bunch. Has the toolkit flashed the current radio for you, i.e. did it work? I don't know that youll get many takers on your offer, as it seems its the same questions over and over and we're all hoping that each of us is persistent and stubborn enough to figure it out, search, learn, and then perhaps be able to assist and help others.
Can someone point me in the direction to a 4.2.2 zip?
