Hey Guys,
as soon as i got my FireTV, i blocked all Updates, so im still on 51.1.3.0. The newest official Firmware looks tempting, but even more the Chance of beeing someday able to root.
Now im wondering how high the chance would be for a way to gain root with 51.1.3.0, but not with a newer FW.
What do you think? Of course, noone can be shure. im just wondering how high you'd rate the chance for a case like that, that i can decide if i should update, or better keep my feets still Thanks for your advices! Cheers!

Just update. I assure you that while the Fire TV is running Android 4.2.2 there is very very very very very little chance of it being roote. No matter how much people hate hearing it, its the truth. Its not gonna happen. Amazon has locked down 4.2.2, and I think devs have given up on even trying to root newer firmwares. If they would upgrade to Android 4.4 it would renew interest in rooting, but root may not be accomplished on 4.4 either.
Even if newer firmwares were to be updated it is more likely that the latest update would be the one that gets rooted so there is really no reason not to updatee.

If you hardware root, you can downgrade to 51.1.0.2 and then upgraded to the latest prerooted.
Thanks Guys for clarifing! Yes i hate hearing it But at least i can go updating.
I cant solder at all (i even mess up soldering odd headphonecables, so no way) So no hardware root for me
Anyway, thanks again

I am switching from a nexus one on at&t. I love that damn phone, but hate the network now that i am in AZ. so i am gonna switch to verizon and get the incredible since it is getting cyanogenmod. I have read that on the EVO there have been OTA patches that block rooting from occuring. I wanted to make sure that there have not been any of those types of OTA updates for the incredible. I just want to be sure before i order one that i won't be stuck with a locked phone. thanks guys.
Bad timing considering OTA is around the corner for 2.2. You best bet is to shoot to a verizon store ask to see the phone and check the build before you purchase.
so as long as it still has 2.1 i should be good? that it pretty simple. correct?
correct. From what we are seeing now, there is a good chance that 2.2 will close all access blocking the ability to root.
That update has not come yet, but will soon.
Hurry!!
well i had to order it because no one in the area has them in stock, no surprise. i really hope that it doesn't come with 2.2 preinstalled. with all the leaks i'm afraid it will. i'm a little unsure about whether it is possible to downgrade. i know on a nexus i could push either a nandroid or system.img downgrade. is that possible without root? i'm guessing no but wondering if i could get a definitive yes or no
Hey all
Still trying to absorb all the info around here. My contract is up with ATT at the end of August and I'll be getting an EVO then. However, by that time all the EVOs sold will most likely be coming stock with Froyo. I'm really looking forward to rooting/flashing, so I'm a little worried stock Froyo isn't rootable if you haven't rooted/unencrypted the NAND before you upgraded. Is this [currently] the case?

As of now, stock Froyo is NOT rootable. Fear not though Caanon. A dev will root it. It's inevitable. I've noticed the devs around here love challenges.
You are basically stuck until a dev finds a new root method to get 2.2 rooted. Give it time i am sure a dev will
EDIT: See above!
Perfect, exactly what I was expecting. Thanks!
+1, hope it wont wait for too long.
It's also safe to assume that the phone will NOT be leaving the store with 2.2 already by the end of the month. You should be able to use the current methods (I prefer simple root) to root your phone.
It's even SAFER to assume that the latest OTA will have a root method by the end of the month, so even if it does, you won't have to worry about it.
In short:
Don't worry about it. If you get the phone at the end of the month, you'll have no problem rooting.
Hey guys, just got a notification today for an Ota update got my Verizon g4. Should I take it or wait to see if a root method comes for this phone? I'm kinda starting to give up hope in root though. I'm guessing Verizon has successfully locked their phones down to the point where even the best devs can't crack them. What do you all think?
The phone hasn't been out that long. Root is coming as it almost always does eventually.
I've taken it and its a little snappier with better touchscreen response.

Never take OTAs. Wait for root, then someone can just add those updates into ROMs/flashing new firmwares.

Never take OTA's if you want root. You could be waiting longer if they patched an exploit. Don't know why anyone who wants root would take OTA.
I was tempted to take the OTA as well ... but I'm going to hold off a while. Ideally I'd be running CM 12.1 anyway...........
But is there a way to keep the Updater from the constant OTA reminder? This is going to get annoying.

I know some people don't have it but some Like me so where if you go to system settings then updates it gives an option to stop it. If not @Misterxtc has been promoting a tool in the G4 General threads to help stop it
Sent from my G4 using your mom
I don't know how this will be able to help our situation with locked bootloaders, but I am sure the intelligent among us could somehow use this.
I suppose this would be possible. But I'm pretty sure LG will close that with the next security update (if they can be bothered to issue one, we're still waiting for the February update.)

http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-updates-lg-g3-and-g4-march-security-patch? now I wish H815 would get it. Amazing to see a carrier phone appear to get this first.

Yes, that is true. But the choice of updating is in the hands of the user. I am sure a lot of people want to use MM on their G4 but cannot let go of root. This can/may provide a middle-ground for these people. They can have root and MM, albeit an outdated version, which in my opinion is better than nothing.

I agree considering I'm still on LP because I will not let go of my root access. I'm in no rush to upgrade either but it doesn't hurt to not be too left behind compared to my brother

I was foolish enough to update to MM, I've since stopped using the device completely except for answering calls, and I am really sad about that. With the leather back, curved screen, replaceable battery, and back buttons this is one of my top phones. Yes, I know I can downgrade, but I don't want to be bothered by that. I like the new MM features enough to not downgrade, yet I hate not having root, the ad-blocking, the tweaking of my phone to my liking. I've already decided on not buying any phones except nexus. But sadly I am stuck with this phone till the next nexus comes out.
Hello,
I was wondering if someone with the right skills could do it.
https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2015-1805
In the bug's description it's said that Linux kernels before 3.16 are affected by this, I'm using 20e which runs 3.10.84 so theoretically exploitable.
I work with software development but web/mainframe mainly, anyone with a few hax0r skills willing to work on this?
I would certainly donate for this cause.
Is it possible to flash the latest Korean firmware update to a US unlocked S20 Ultra model?
I would wait for official OTA!
The frying pan may seem hot but the fire is way hotter!

That's kinda what I figured,I'm just one of those flashing firmware via Odin between carrier firmware and unlocked firmware hoping they can kind of get a handle on all this Camera stuff or come out and say sorry we released the phone a little to soon and going to recall it until the issues are completely resolved.Wishful thinking on my part but if you're going to push the envelope to these extremes you might want to take as long as needed to iron out all the kinks.Don't get me wrong I Love the S20 Ultra, just wanting this phone to be the best that it can be.
We all want it to work properly but even though I am a flashing, repairing, backing up, modding guy, I do not recommend flashing it. Samsung must come out with a software update or a hardware update. They have a history of recalling and fixing their products and even though I am also angry about it, I am positive that a fix will come. We could debate about possible causes and the most logical is that they wanted to push the smartphone industry hard but the testing team did not do a great job with it. It could also be an industrial sabotage but let us not fall into that hole. I am also loving the phone just like my predecessor said but the bitter taste is still here and it shouldn´t be because it is a hardware masterpiece.
